The Underpants Bomber- Let the Blame Begin

A couple of days ago, I promised to report back to you about the inevitable plague of right wingers screaming about how Obama was responsible for the recent underpants bomber. Well, here's a sample. There was too much to include it all, so I left out the most boring ones. Before beginning, I want to point out that TSA appropriations, including money for a new generation of bomb scanning equipment, failed in Congress last June, due to Republican opposition.

Rep. Pete Hoekstra: "It's not surprising," U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, a Holland Republican, said of the alleged terrorist attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight in Detroit. ... "People have got to start connecting the dots here and maybe this is the thing that will connect the dots for the Obama administration," Hoekstra said."

Maybe it will connect the dots for your fellow Republicans, Pete. I doubt it, but maybe.

American Thinker: "The passengers of Northwest/Delta Airlines Flight 253 are lucky they are still alive. They should be the last passengers in the U.S. exposed to this kind of risk because of political correctness....It is time to hold politicians who refuse to protect their fellow citizens from jihadi terror accountable. Or would the majority of Americans rather be dead than viewed as politically incorrect?"

So it was political correctness that defeated the bomb scanning equipment? Somehow, I don't think so. I think it was a pack of lying Republican pigs.

Astute Bloggers: "THE PASSENGERS WERE LET DOWN BY THE TSA, AND OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITIES - WHO EACH FAILED TO ACT EFFECTIVELY AGAINST A KNOWN THREAT.
THAT'S WHY THE PASSENGERS WERE PUT INTO A SITUATION IN WHICH THEY HAD TO TAKE ACTION THEMSELVES - AND THEY DID, COURAGEOUSLY.
WELL, WE CAN NO MORE DEPEND ON THE CURRENT CONGRESS - OR THE CURRENT POTUS THAN THESE PASSENGERS - AND EVERY OTHER ONE FLYING SOMEWHERE ON OTHER FLIGHTS - CAN DEPEND ON THE TSA.

Maybe we could depend on the TSA if they had the right equipment, and if they hadn't been set up by the Bush administration, which couldn't do anything right (except steal from the American people) to save its life.

Astute Bloggers: "OBAMA DROPPED THE BALL: NYTIMES: BOMBER'S FATHER TOLD USA ABOUT SON SEVERAL WEEKS AGO"

And of course, the guy's father personally called Obama, right? That's why Obama's the one who dropped the ball.

Sen. Jim DeMint on Fox News: "We have to outthink the terrorists and when we formed the airport security system, we realized we could not use collective bargaining and unionization because of that need to be flexible. Yet, that appears to be the top priority now of the administration..."

Oh, now I understand. How could I have not realized this before? The answer to terrorism is to do away with unions! How simple it is when you really think about it. And here I was ready to blame it all on ACORN.

And more Pete Hoekstra, who seems to be taking the lead on this smear, again on (where else) Fox News:

Chris Wallace: "You were quoted in the Detroit Free Press this morning as saying that, you know, the key is to connect the dots and maybe the Obama administration will now realize that. Is it really fair to hold the Obama administration responsible here?"

"Yeah, I think it really is," replied Hoekstra. "Connecting the dots here is not really on this particular case. It's connecting the dots that we've seen over the last 11 months, over the last eight years."

Eight years. All Obama's fault of course, because as we well know, it is treason to suggest that a Republican administration might have had anything to do with it. Grow up already, Pete.

Rep. Pete King is getting in on the act, too: "Petey said that the ObamAdministration banned the word "terrorism", which is, of course, why Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab managed to smuggle explosives on board a jetliner."

Uh huh. If only they had not banned the word "terrorism," our problems would be solved. Of course (you couldn't have guessed this, I bet) Obama, not being the sort of idiot that Bush was, did not do anything so stupid as banning a word. But still, the principal holds. What principal? Who knows?

Pam Geller: "We have had more Muslim plots against the United States the past 4 months than the last four years of the Bush adminstration. Ass clowns are watching our back."

1. The Muslim plot thing: not true, although I hardly need say this, given the source.
2. Pammy, where were you when the real assclowns created this problem?

Confederate Yankee: "Perhaps if they spent more time attempting to hunt down terrorists, and less time trying to smear Americans that don't like Barack Obama, terrorists like Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab wouldn't be able to make it onto US-bound flights in the first place.

Not even worth a comment, Yankee dude. He continues:

Jonah Goldberg wants Napolitano fired, but I'm not sure what purpose that would serve. Looking at this Administration's raft of failed and marginally competent appointees, do you really expect that any replacement nominee would be any less ideologically-drive or more effective?"

Failed and marginally competent. I guess you would be talking about people like Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales, "Brownie" et. al....No, wait....something wrong there.... How dare I commit treason by attacking those guys...yeah, they were great...only Democrats could make bad appointments, or people selected by ideology. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

AWR Hawkins, Pajamas Media: "Moreover, when trials began for these “suspected terrorists” they will not be held in military courts but in a federal courtroom in New York City.

You remember what happened in New York City, don’t you? That’s where thousands of Americas were killed on September 11, 2001, when two airplanes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center..."

Actually, you idiot, I do vaguely remember what happened in New York City on September 11, 2001, during the administration of GEORGE W. BUSH and DICK CHENEY. And you know what? I'm still not urinating in my pants like you are. You'd probably claim that, being a left winger, I'm just trying to avoid wrecking the bomb I've got in there. Which leads me to a joke...no, on second thought, I don't think I'll go there.

But wait...there's more- the guy isn't done being stupid:

We must ditch this soft approach to terrorism. We need to understand that apprehending terrorists by whatever means necessary and then holding them somewhere where they cannot threaten the American people is the only sound approach to dealing with people bent on killing infidels (i.e., you and me)."

Somewhere they can't threaten Americans? How about in a maximum security prison? No? That doesn't work for you? Well, maybe we should just nuke their countries out of existence. That sounds more like your kind of diplomacy, and it has the added advantage (to Republicans) of making things worse.

World Net Daily: "No one in charge of airport security...TSA remains leaderless"

Of course that's because Republicans have engaged in another mindless filibuster of Obama's nomination to head the agency, but it wouldn't help the narrative to point that out, right?

Well, there you go. It's all Obama's fault. He has utterly failed us, because some dick managed to burn his legs on an airplane. On the other hand, 3,000 dead and Bush, who ignored numerous warnings of an attack, had no responsibility at all for what happened. Well, we will just have to wait for that recent presidential briefing that is titled "man determined to set pants on fire on airplane" and then the blaming can really begin.

The thing I don't get is, how was Obama supposed to spot this, when Republicans have been setting their own pants on fire all over the country, ever since he got elected?

I have two words for the idiot Republicans who are frothing and spittle flecking over this:

Richard Reid.

Terrorism is hardly a huge problem, as you are far more likely to die by shark attack or brain damage from reading GE.

The point is that after 9/11, these things shouldn't happen. No system is fool-proof but the fact that we have these threats on our radar and know the manners in which they attack suggest that we are more prepared and able to intercept these kinds of terrorist actions on our soil.

That is why people are pissed. Honestly, do I blame Obama? No, but that doesn't mean his administration can't be docked points for being subpar.

Brain damage from reading GE? I never expected anyone to use their brain here.

"I never expected anyone to use their brain here."

Most don't from what I can see. I use mine too much from trying to comprehend how anyone can be so moronic. It's a work in progress.
