US Embassy Attacked- Shut up about Benghazi!

So here's an item that, I suspect, will be pushed out of the news as fast as possible.  From the Washington Post:

"Protesters chanting ‘Death to America’ break into U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad... Hundreds of angry supporters of an Iranian-backed militia shouting "Death to America" broke into the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad on Tuesday, trapping diplomats inside in response to U.S. airstrikes that killed or wounded scores of militia fighters."
No, this is not Benghazi under Obama, it is Baghdad under Trump.

And this further information is, I think, hardly comforting:

"Supporters of an Iranian-backed militia besieged the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes, breaking through the first layer of security at the embassy compound and damaging a reception area before being expelled by Iraqi security forces."

Yes, the mighty United States military, so strong under Trump's wise leadership, was impotent to repel this attack on our own embassy, and had to rely on Iraqi troops to do it.

I have to say that if the Democrats in the House do not start multiple hearings about this event, and keep them up for every single day from now until the election, they are utter fools.  Not that I expect them to do the right thing, even when it is this obvious.

They Still Don't Get It

The press, I mean, even as liberal a news source as Daily Kos:

"Oddly committed to normalizing Trump by scrubbing off his hateful and dangerous rough edges, many in the Beltway press continue to play a strange game in which they refuse to describe what they clearly see in front of them. Whether it's the fear of Trump Twitter attacks or the nearly five-decade-long GOP campaign to demonize the "liberal media," newsrooms today nearly uniformly refuse to address the mounting, obvious signs that Trump is a deeply unstable man."

No, it is not either of these things that cause the press to continue to minimize the criminality of the worst President in history.  It is because, due to Republican "deregulation," virtually the entire mainstream press has fallen into the hands of the rich, who see their possession as nothing but a way to continue their stranglehold on the country.

And no, thankfully, sites like Daily Kos do not participate in this malignant misuse of our media, but comments like this one still display an utter lack of understanding of why the press acts the way it does.  As I have said many times before, the mainstream press is not the Republicans' dupes, they are their collaborators.

The Republican Lie Machine Fires a New Cannon

Glancing at the wingnut web yesterday, I saw a story that I had missed entirely:
Diamond and Silk:  "BOMBSHELL: AG Barr Indicts 8 For Funneling Millions In Foreign Donations To Schiff, Clinton and Top Democrats"
Catholic Answers:  "Barr Indicts 8 for illegally funneling foreign money to Schiff, Hillary and several Dem senators"
Lucianne.com:  "Bill Barr Indicts 8 Including Mueller...Top Witness for Funneling Millions in  Foreign Donations to Adam Schiff,  Hillary Clinton and Top Senate Democrats"
Ace of Spades:  "Bill Barr's DOJ Indicts Pedophile/Mueller Source George Nader and Seven Others For Conspiring to Make Illegal Donations to Democrats, Including Adam Schiff...Bill Barr just broke up a massive scheme to illegally funnel foreign money into darn near every Democratic political candidate and organization.
The list of the Dem organizations taking this illegal money is astounding – almost every Dem state organization and many super PAC’s including the big one Priorities USA.  All of the leading names in the Democratic party took in this money including Adam Schiff and Ted Lieu, Jon Tester, Cory Booker, Hillary Clinton, etc."

And on and on the posts on this "story" go.  There are literally dozens of articles about this in Republican world today; I counted 39 of them in the first five pages of hits when I did a Google search.

Of course, the story seems to have been originally spread by the biggest liar on the internet, Jim Hoft:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Bill Barr Indicts 8 Including Mueller Top Witness for Funneling Millions in Foreign Donations to Schiff, Hillary Clinton and Democrats — New Data Shows Bill and Hillary Involved...Bill Barr indicted eight individuals for illegally funneling foreign money to Adam Schiff, Hillary Clinton and several Democratic senators.
The list of the Dem organizations taking this illegal money is astounding – almost every Dem state organization and many super PAC’s including the big one Priorities USA...All of the leading names in the Democratic party took in this money including Adam Schiff and Ted Lieu, Jon Tester, Cory Booker, Hillary Clinton, etc."
Curiously, I was unable to find a single article about this massive scandal in any mainstream publication.  After their swallowing of Republican lies about Benghazi and Hillary's e-mails, you know that they would have already been screaming about this for days.  But of course, the explanation for that is obvious, as clearly revealed by Mr. Hoft:
"The Liberal Media covered up a HUGE liberal campaign donations scandal last week.  A HUGE DEMOCRAT MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR CAMPAIGN DONATIONS SCANDAL WAS BROKEN UP!"
Of course, every media outlet in the country to the left of Joseph Goebbels covered it up! Not a single one of them reported on this gigantic scoop, for some reason.  That explains everything.

It has been obvious for some time that whatever damning evidence emerges about the corrupt, treasonous behavior of the Trump White House, Trump and his trained monkey of an Attorney General are going to fabricate a blizzard of lies accusing the Democrats of exactly the same thing, only on a much worse level.  We know the fix is in after the Inspector General utterly denied the Trumpian delusions about the investigations of his criminality, and Barr announced that there is another investigation covering the exact same territory, only conducted by a Ken Starr-like stooge who can be trusted to lie as easily as Trump and Barr.

So here is just one installment in this plan: a completely fictitious scandal accusing the Democrats of crimes identical to the ones Trump committed.  Hold on to your seats, because for the next year, it is going to be one after another of these vicious smears, and sad to say, like the e-mail story, a couple of them might stick.

The Ultimate Degradation?

From the Independent, courtesy of my friend Curt, the following almost unbelievable news:
"China approves Donald Trump-branded spas, escort services, hotels and massage parlours without US Congress permission...
The 38 trademarks include new hotels, spas, escort and concierge services, massage parlors, personal security services and insurance, according to public documents."
Escort services and massage parlors.  Donald Trump has now reverted to his grandfather's business, which formed the basis of the family fortune, whore houses.

Trump is now running Chinese whore houses out of the White House.  If this wasn't Donald Trump we are talking about here, this would be totally unbelievable, but unfortunately it is all too easy to believe with him.

When is enough enough for the Republican party?  Do they really believe that running whore houses while President of the United States is not enough of a misdemeanor to throw this miserable excuse for a human being, who has installed as first lady a former porn star, out and put him in prison where he belongs?  How much are they willing to tolerate to get their corrupt judges and tax cuts for the rich?  And when will the rest of the American people finally say that we have had enough of this deliberate degradation of our country in front of the whole world, all to benefit a foreign dictator?

Wingnut Wrapup- Impeachment Edition

Yes, an abbreviated Wingnut Wrapup devoted to the reaction from the right to Trump's impeachment, on the day after it happened.  They usually have a lag of two or three days before they really get up to speed on things like this, so there will certainly be more, and worse, but here's  a pretty good sample of the graciousness with which they have accepted the current application of the will of their blessed founding fathers:
Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "Mark Levin: Nancy Pelosi's Latest Impeachment Stunt Is Brazenly Unconstitutional..."Nancy Pelosi was apparently advised by leftwing Harvard law professor Lawrence Tribe to delay sending the impeachment to the Senate. So she’s unilaterally sitting on the impeachment. This is another brazen unconstitutional act," Levin wrote Thursday morning on his Facebook page."
Ha ha, Constitutional law scholar, and the most vicious right wing talk show host out there, Mark Levin, telling us that the greatest expert on the Constitution in the country doesn't know what he is talking about.  And what to do about this savaging of our precious Constitution?
"Here’s what Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans must do in response: The Senate has the sole power under the Constitution to adjudicate an impeachment. Therefore, Pelosi is attempting to obstruct the Senate’s power to act on its constitutional authority. McConnell should immediately put an end to this and declare the impeachment null and void as the speaker has failed to complete the impeachment process by timely sending it to the Senate for adjudication"
Nothing in the Constitution about timely sending, of course, except in the part written in invisible ink that only wingnuts can read, but really, Levin's suggestion isn't any worse than the way the Republicans intend to act anyway.
Cortney O'Brien, Town Hall:  "Former Florida AG Pam Bondi, who's helping represent Trump during the impeachment trial, mused that the speaker just wants to withhold those articles because "she wants to say for a bit longer" that Trump has been impeached."
Nancy Pelosi can say that Trump has been impeached until the end of time, Cortney.  Deal with it.  And let's not forget that this is the same Pam Bondi who dropped fraud charges against Trump in return for a campaign contribution.

Now, let's take a break for some right wing humor, shall we?
Bet you got a chuckle out of that, huh?  By the way, given how the last several Republican Presidencies have worked out, this might actually be a good idea.
Chris Stigall, Town Hall:  "When Inspector General Horowitz was called to testify before the Senate last week...Horowitz was also repeatedly asked to explain what he found related to political bias within the agency that led to flagrantly abusive behaviors and violated policies.  Again and again, Horowitz demurred.  Frankly, it was hard to watch."
It was hard to watch that their own hand picked inspector general could not find a thing to substantiate their conspiracy theories.
"All honest people know a phony, baseless political document paid for by Trump’s political opposition was used as justification to trick a court into granting permission to spy on the Trump campaign."
Or to be more direct, all dishonest people, since that has been proven to be a lie.
Matt Vespa, Red State:  "Constitutional Crisis? Pelosi Threatens to Withhold Impeachment Articles from Senate Republicans"
It's not a Constitutional crisis when their guy tries to turn the country into a dictatorship, but it is one when the Speaker waits a couple of days before passing a piece of legislation on to the Senate, in an act mentioned nowhere in the Constitution.
Nick Arama, Red State:  "Trump Laughs At Impeachment At Michigan Rally: ‘I’m Having a Great Time’
Because he is positive that corrupt Senate Republicans will crush any attempt to remove him, no matter how criminal his behavior is.  That is a thing of pride to Trump supporters.
Stu Cvrk, Red State:  "The Clintons have a long habit of not admitting past criminal behavior and then, when caught, doing everything possible to weasel out of accountability through delays, prevaricating, and legal maneuvering"
Of course, we all know who has that habit. Just a reminder that it's all about someone else.  And projection.  There's always the projection.  This is from an article claiming that indictments against Hillary for who knows what are going to happen any day now, despite there being absolutely no evidence of such a thing happening.  And face it, with Barr as Attorney General, it is a real possibility.
Streiff, Red State:  "The Left and NeverTrump Creates Yet Another Fake Controversy Over a Dead Democrat Joke"
Because, what could ever be wrong about a taunt about a recently dead Democrat?

And how about a little more right wing humor?

See, they didn't say what Republicans want, so they were duds.
Matt Margolis, PJ Media:  "Impeachment Won't Be the Black Mark on Trump's Record the Left Thinks It Will Be"
Not among his rabid followers.  They have proven long ago that no disgraceful behavior on his part will affect them in any way.
Christina Laila, Gateway Pundit:  "GOP Congressman Greg Pence Calls Impeachment Hoax “Bullsh*t to the 4th Degree”
Well, I guess he sure told them.
Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "US STOCKS SOAR! Dow and S&P Score New Highs the Day after Slapdash Impeachment"
This may be my favorite item of the day: stocks soar at the prospect that Trump might be removed from office, and it's a good thing for Trump.
Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Honest Democrat Jonathan Turley: “You Could Impeach Every Living President” on These Type of Allegations"
"Honest Democrat" and decades-long right wing hack for Fox News, Jonathan Turley, elevated to the status of Constitutional scholar through his willingness to say anything that promotes Republicans.
Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "They Don’t Even Hide It Anymore: FakeNews WaPo Hacks Post Celebratory Tweet After Democrats Impeach President Trump"
Sorry to set you straight, Jim, but any American who does not celebrate this impeachment is betraying our country.  And with this item, Jim once again wins the coveted Wingnut Wrapup hat trick for writing three monumentally stupid posts in one day.  Jim is by far the leader in winning this award, so we will see him back here soon, I am sure.

And how about a final dose of right wing humor for today?

Man, that one sure tickled my funnybone.  What a bunch of cards those Republicans are. "Throne of lies," what a great line.  And by the way, why is Nancy being yelled at by an elf?

Christina Laila, Gateway Pundit:  "Pelosi Loses It – Fights to Keep Her Teeth From Falling Out of Her Face as She Shouts at Reporters Following Trump Impeachment Vote"
Well, that's the level on which they intend to fight this battle.  And of course it isn't true.  Does anyone think that someone of Pelosi's economic status would not have implants rather than dentures?
Washington Sentinel:  "Impeachment Continues to Be a Cash Cow for RNC, Trump Reelection Campaign"
Well, grifting money from their stupid base is all they ever care about, so who is surprised to see them gloating over it.
Andrew West, Washington Sentinel:  "Vladimir Putin Defends Donald Trump After House Passes Articles of Impeachment"
Well, that should be an item of great pride to Republican voters.

I could go on and on with stuff like this, but it all got totally repetitive at this point- those talking points are there for a reason, you know.  More to come, I am sure, sad to say.

And the Republicans' reply? Again, from the Washington Post:

The GOP’s closing impeachment argument: Denying basic facts

And that is pretty much how this entire episode in American history will be remembered.  There is absolutely nothing the Democrats can do to stop the criminal Republicans from collaborating with this malignant traitor, but what they did today and what Senate Republicans will do now will never be forgotten.

‘Our time there ended up being worthless’: Voices from the war in Afghanistan

This is the headline at the Washington Post website right now.

At the risk of being accused of gloating, I wish to point out that, early in the history of my blog, I stated that the first thing Obama should do upon becoming President was to declare that Bush and Cheney, in turning their attention to the American aggression against Iraq, had so irredeemably destroyed the American effort in Afghanistan that our war there was hopelessly lost, and he was withdrawing all American troops before any more lives could be lost in this miserably botched endeavor.

Just to show that speaking the obvious truth has not only with Trump become grounds for dismissal from the conversation.

Look to Kavanaugh

Boy, wouldn't you love to come up in front of this judge.

If anyone has any doubt what the Senate Republicans have in store for the trial of the patently guilty Donald Trump, they only have to look at the way that those same Republicans handled the investigation into the appointment of the grotesquely unfit Brett Kavanaugh to serve on the Supreme Court.

This sham investigation included:
Tens of thousands of pages of information about Kavanaugh's history that the White House refused to turn over, with the collaboration of Senate Republicans.
Multiple vital witnesses to the accusations which were never even talked to, let alone allowed to testify, at the behest of the White House.
Vicious, lying attacks on the limited witnesses that were allowed to testify, both from the White House and Senate Republicans.
Massive synthetic outrage from Senate Republicans, designed to obscure the facts in a maelstrom of anger and distortion.
And finally, a party-line vote to place this disgusting creature on the Supreme Court, with Republicans totally ignoring his unbelievable performance on national TV showing his clear unsuitability to be any sort of judge.

Well, get ready, because we are about to see an unashamed repeat of this disgraceful dereliction of duty in the upcoming Senate trial.

Wingnut Wrapup

I want to start here with a comment a Republican Senator made during the Horowitz hearings today:

"Isn't the lack of evidence in itself evidence? The lack of evidence of bias is not evidence that there was no bias."

No, and it's not evidence that Santa Claus does not exist, or that Obama is not the antichrist, either.  It is, however, evidence that a massive Inspector General investigation could find no bias in the efforts to unmask Trump's treason.

Now, before beginning today, I feel it necessary to make a comment.  As some of my readers may know, I have been following the right wing in this country for about half a century now.  When I first started, the sort of thing that might make it into Wingnut Wrapup was little more than an irrational curiosity that existed only on the very fringes of our political world. That has all changed now.  At this point, the entire Republican party has given itself up to a unified, and utterly false, view of reality in which all Democrats are satanic pedophiles out to dominate the world, Republicans of the Donald Trump ilk are great patriots despite openly selling the country out to our greatest enemy, any effort to help anyone other than the already rich is a malignant plot, our most long-term allies are really committed to destroying us, equality is a Communist plot, there are no rights other than the right to whatever you can pay for, and on and on.  When you read what is below, it will no longer seem like some strange vision from a mirror world, but the constant product of all Republican leaders, spreading these lies in concert.  That takes a lot of the fun out of seeing this mountain of grotesque lies.

Town Hall:  "On Monday afternoon, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released his highly-anticipated report into the origins of the Russia/Trump investigation, as well as possible FISA abuses.  Both political parties are claiming vindication, with much of the media parroting the pro-Democratic spin, per usual."
"Parroting the pro-Democratic spin," i.e. saying what is actually in the report, rather than screaming out the endless Republican distortions.
Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Yes, Ukraine Meddled in Our 2016 Election. That's Not a Baseless 'Conspiracy.'
Yes, it is, Guy, which you know perfectly well, unless you take the word "baseless conspiracy" to mean one that doesn't help Republicans lie their way into the White House again.

Here, by the way is Guy's grounds for this lie:
"Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump by publicly questioning his fitness for office."
In other words, for stating the obvious truth, that he was grotesquely unfit to be our President.  Speaking the truth is questioning Trump, and clearly nobody who is not a Republican (or a Russian) has the slightest right to speak the truth.  And, luckily for the non-truth, no Republican in recent memory has had any interest in the truth.
Julio Rosas, Town Hall:  "Fox News Swats Down James Comey's Claim His Appearance on 'Fox & Friends' Was Canceled"
If by "swats down," you mean "lies about it."
Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "DOJ IG: FISA Application for Spy Warrants Against Trump Official Riddled with Errors"
Of course, Matt does not seem to be concerned that it also totally destroyed all the Republican lies about the investigation of Trump.  That is not important, but clerical errors are vital.
Julio Rosas, Town Hall:  "'This Was an Attempted Overthrow': Trump Holds Nothing Back After IG Report Is Released"
Trump holds no lie back...what a surprise.
Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "AG Barr: IG Report Makes Clear the FBI Launched an Invasive Investigation on Thinnest of Suspicions"
Barr does not make that clear, because it is a gigantic lie.  Barr did claim that, but that does not make it true.
Cortney O'Brien, Town Hall:  "GOP Rep Introduces Motion Against Witness After His Character Assassination of Trump..."The witness has used language which impugns the motives of the president and suggests he's disloyal to his country and those words should be stricken from the record and taken down," (GOP Rep. Mike) Johnson said."
I.e. the witness told the truth, and therefore his answers should be stricken from the record on the remote chance that any Trump supporter should hear about what he said, in between the relentless din of Republican lies.
Bonchie, Red State:  "Happy Receipt Day: Here’s a Reminder of the ‘Conservatives’ Who Insisted FISA Abuse Was a Conspiracy Theory"
A Republican claim which was totally rejected by Trump's own apppointed IG, but you would never know that from reading the right wing press.
Elizabeth Vaughn, Red State:  "Former DOJ Official: Durham’s Statement Means “He’s Got the Goods on Somebody”
Let's just ignore the exhaustive Inspector General's report that totally destroys Trump's claims, and pretend that some sort of cryptic statement from another investigator who has said nothing in public, means that Trump was right.
Brandon Morse, Red State:  "Daisy Ridley May Have Just Hurt the Next Star Wars Film by Denigrating Trump Supporters"
Just thought I'd throw that one in, as a reminder of how little it takes to set Republicans off on a whining jag.
Nick Arama, Red State:  "IG Report: Steele Briefed Reporters, Met With Clinton Lawyers, Asked FBI About Announcing Investigation Into Trump Team"
All of which was completely legal and proper, but will still serve as an excuse for Republicans to boil over with indignation.
Nicholas Ballasy, PJ Media:  "Pelosi and Nadler Voted Against Clinton's Articles of Impeachment"
See, if you voted to acquit the innocent, it is a crime if you don't vote to acquit the guilty.  Particularly when the innocent guy was a Democrat and the guilty one was a Republican.
Matt Margolis, PJ Media:  "Five Times Obama Put Conditions on Foreign Aid and Democrats Didn’t Care"
Because Obama's conditions were to promote the interests of the country, not himself.
Victoria Taft, PJ Media:  "Trump on IG Report: 'This Was an Attempted Overthrow... We Caught ‘em Red-Handed'
Just an out and out lie from Trump. Nothing to see there.
Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "During Impeachment Announcement: Serial Liar Adam Schiff Accuses Trump of Cheating to Win 2016 Election — A COMPLETE LIE!"
No Jim, a complete truth.  What would a Wingnut Wrapup be without a visit from the Stupidest Man On The Internet?
Joe Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "IT’S OFFICIAL: Mueller Targeted the Four Individuals Deep State Illegally Spied On – Carter Page, General Flynn, George Papadopoulos and Paul Manafort"
Flynn-Convicted.  Papadopoulis-convicted.  Manafort-convicted. Page- the Mueller report never got the evidence from the Trump administration.  See, Joe, that is what investigators do: target the guilty.  Maybe nobody ever told you that.
Gateway Pundit:  "WATCH: Rep. Greg Steube GOES OFF On Partisan Democrat Lawyer Barry Berke During Monday Impeachment Hearing"
I'm including this item as a perfect example of how the right wing propaganda machine works.  Their dupes never see a shred of the actual testimony, just a lying rant delivered by a Republican totally denying the evidence right in front of them.
Art Moore, Renew America:  "Horowitz: Obama FBI misled court to spy on Trump campaign"
And another example of the same thing.
Hans van Spakovsky, Daily Signal:  "Liberal law professors at hearing fail to make case for impeachment"
And more of the same.  Don't get the answers you wanted, just tell your stupid, ignorant followers that you did.  By the way, let's not forget that Hans van Spakovsky is a right wing religious loon, and one of the worst vote suppressors in Republican history.  Not a nice guy.
Joe Saunders, Western Journal:  "Lindsey Graham: Report shows FBI ran a 'criminal enterprise' against Trump"
More lies from Lindsey.  Once again, if the real investigation doesn't turn up what you wanted, just lie and say it did.
Thomas Lifson, American Thinker:  "Horowitz offers sound bites to Dems, facts to Republicans"
More of the same lies.  If you are a right winger, it is coming at you from a thousand sources today.
Washington Examiner:  "ANALYSIS: Durham's Russia origins investigation looms over Horowitz FISA report"
The Horowitz investigation proved that Trump was lying, so let's give the Republicans a chance to hire someone even sleazier to "find" the evidence Trump wants.  After all, that's the tactic that worked with the corrupt right wing hatchet man Ken Starr, after the first Republican investigator found nothing wrong with what Clinton did.
Matt Abbot, Renew America:  "'Our Lord...could not grow in the womb of a sinner'"
Who the fuck cares?
Peter Lemiska, Renew America:  "Explaining the impeachment yawn to befuddled Democrats"
In fact, impeachment is the number one concern expressed in real polls by Americans, half of whom want him removed from office.  You will not be surprised, I am sure, that Peter has absolutely no facts of any kind to back up the Republican claim that Americans are not interested in seeing this criminal held responsible for the systematic misuse of his power.
Larry Klayman, Renew America:  "Why I sued for George Zimmerman?"
Because you are a lying scum who will do anything to get attention or bilk wingnuts of their money.  Like all of your lawsuits, Larry, it will be thrown out of court, but not before you can use it to fatten your bank account.
Joel Pollack, Breitbart:  "Adam Schiff Fails to Show Up at Impeachment Hearing"
A hearing of the Judiciary committee, of which he is not a member.  If he had shown up, Republicans would be screaming that he was desperate for attention and attempting to swing the vote.
“The star witness failed to show up!” exclaimed Ranking Member Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA)."
Schiff was, of course, not a witness at all, and whatever knowledge he has of Trump's treason is included in his committee's report.
World Net Daily:  "Rush Limbaugh: Despite Pelosi's denial, Democrats DO hate Trump"
If they don't they are crazy.
Jack Davis, Western Journal:  "Nadler accused of treason as protester crashes impeachment hearing: 'Americans are sick of your impeachment scam'
Protester...and Infowars host.  If you believe the Sandy Hook shooting was fake, the government did 9-11 and controls the weather, maybe you should believe this.
Monica Showalter, American Thinker:  "So Obama knew all along about the FBI bid to spy on his rival...Obama stands exposed."
Exposed of what? Of investigating a traitor who conspired with a foreign dictator to cheat his way into the Presidency?  Boy, that sure is a crime.
Monica Showalter, American Thinker:  "Trump trolls the left on Impeachment Day, intentionally meeting with Russia's Lavrov"
Because that is the President's job- trolling the left.  And selling the country out to Putin.
Jeff Poor, Breitbart:  "Grassley on IG Findings: If FBI Could Violate Trump’s Constitutional Rights, It Could Happen to Anybody in America"
Of course, the IG found that the FBI did not violate Trump's Constitutional rights, but so what?
Charlie Spierling, Breitbart:  "Promises Kept: Donald Trump Celebrates Life Goal of Replacing NAFTA"
Oh, grow up, Charlie.  Trump probably never heard of NAFTA before he ran for President, didn't have a clue what was in it, and didn't give a damn about it unless he could make money off of it.
Newstarget:  "We are all George Zimmerman now"
I believe that, guys.  You would all like to go out and murder a few innocent black teenagers.

And let's just go out on a couple of nice Christmas posts:
Ethan Huff, Newstarget:  "Merry DEMONIC Christmas: Walmart, Target, and Amazon all sell books that teach children as young as five how to summon demons"
A good trick, being as how there are no such things as demons.
Lloyd Marcus, American thinker:  "Trump makes Christmas about Jesus again"
Fuck you, Lloyd.  Just fuck you.  What do you think the real Jesus will have to say about that claim when you meet him on judgment day?

Well, this is one day when I could go on and on virtually forever.  But I think you've got the idea already.

The Future of Evangelical America

I want to quote from this extremely frightening article today in the Washington Post:

‘Soldiers of Jesus’: Armed neo-Pentecostals torment Brazil’s religious minorities
DUQUE DE CAXIAS, Brazil — There was a pounding at the door. Strange, the priest thought: He wasn’t expecting anyone. Marcos Figueiredo hurried to the entrance of his home temple and opened it.
Guns. Three of them. All pointing at him.
The “Soldiers of Jesus” had arrived — three members of a gang of extremist evangelical Christians who’d seized control of the impoverished Parque Paulista neighborhood in Duque de Caxias. First, they erected roadblocks to keep away cops and create a narcotics haven an hour’s drive from Rio de Janeiro. Now they were targeting anyone whose faith didn’t align with their own...Priests have been killed. Children have been stoned. An elderly woman was seriously injured. Death threats and taunts are common."

This is the end game of the phony religion of Evangelical Christianity, and this is our fate here in the United States if we do not put a stop to their would-be tyranny and the politicians who cater to it.  And anyone who still thinks differently is hiding his head in the sand, waiting patiently for these so-called "Christians" to come along and lop it off.  It is no different from the masses of religious maniacs that plague the Muslim world, and it will come to the same disastrous end if we do not have the resolve to put a stop to it.

That's it- that's all I have to say about the subject. People who still don't see it at this point are pretty much beyond reaching with evidence or good faith.

A Minor Statistic

A few days ago, three US military personnel were murdered on an air base in Florida, by a Saudi pilot who was there for flight training.

Including 9/11, this brings the number of Americans murdered by Saudi pilots in the United States to 2980, or over 97% of the total number of Americans murdered by all Islamists in this country since 1980.

This has produced a decades-long campaign of vilification against Iran and a war of aggression which killed a million civilians in Iraq, neither of which countries has ever been found guilty of a terrorist act on US soil.

The action taken against Saudi Arabia?  None.  In fact, the last Republican President maintained his close family ties with the family of the leader of the 9/11 attack, and the current Republican President has had extensive business dealings with the Saudis, and wants to send thousands of American troops to aid the Saudi dictators.

What kind of fucked up country, what kind of fucked up party does such a thing?  Couldn't we at least have a ban on Saudi military personnel and Saudi airlines in the US?  Or some sort of action?

Green Eagle's Pocket Impeachment History

There have, as we all know, been four impeachment attempts directed at American Presidents.  As the impeachment of Donald Trump draws near, I hear more and more narratives that imply that, as with Trump, these impeachments revolved around Presidential corruption.  That false narrative is one more specimen of Republican spin intended to excuse the behavior of one of their own, but like all Republican spin, it is being happily gobbled up by a large part of the mainstream press.  I would, therefore, like to briefly consider the three previous impeachments and what they were really about.

1.  Andrew Johnson

Impeachment of Andrew Johnson

There were no accusations of corruption surrounding Johnson.  Here is what he did after becoming President when Lincoln was assassinated, which resulted in his impeachment:  I do not want to get too long winded here, but Johnson conspired with unrepentant former Southern slave owners to pass legislation that would effectively have reintroduced slavery.  After the years of war and the hundreds of thousands of dead Americans who fought to preserve the union and end slavery, enough members of Congress would not tolerate throwing away the gains and voted to impeach Johnson; although a largely party line vote in the Senate prevented the two thirds majority that would have removed him from office.  In any event, it put and end to his schemes, and history moved on.  I repeat, as hateful as his scheming was, it was not corruption.

2.  Richard Nixon

Nixon did certainly commit crimes, and they certainly were impeachable.  When faced with the inevitable, he resigned.  Nevertheless, there was never any claim that he had used the Presidency to enrich himself and his family, or to align himself with hostile foreign governments, against the security interests of the American people, two forms of treachery which are virtually daily occurrences with Trump.

Some years later, when I lived in Europe, I had European friends ask me how Nixon could have been removed over what seemed to them to be relatively minor misdeeds.  Here was my explanation:  Throughout Nixon's career, there had always been two competing narratives about him:  Nixon the brilliant politician and statesman, master of realpolitik, and Nixon, to be blunt, the crook.  Enough people were induced to accept the first narrative, to elect him twice.  But the details of his behavior in the Watergate scandal were simply inconsistent with this tale, leaving the crook narrative the only one that could account for his behavior; and thus his legitimacy in the eyes of the American people evaporated.  I must note that the Republican party learned a huge lesson from Nixon:  today's Republican base has been so thoroughly propagandized that no revelation of Trump's debased character can get through to them.

3.  Bill Clinton

Clinton Impeachment

Let's just get to the point here:  However we may disapprove of Clinton having gotten a little sex with an adult intern, it was hardly just grounds for impeachment.  The Republican impeachment of Clinton certainly did involve corruption, but the corruption was theirs, not his.  It was, in fact, the worst partisan abuse of Congressional power in the history of the country, carried out through a mixture of revenge for Nixon's removal, and the now open belief that nobody but Republicans has a right to be President or to run Congress, regardless of the views of the American people, and regardless of what it takes to prevent Democrats from participating in the government.

4. Trump

I'm not going to go over a history which we all know too well.  I will just say that Trump has committed literally hundreds of impeachable acts, on a virtually daily basis, in the three years that he has been President.  These range from "minor" acts like his 14,000 lies, through endless self dealing, obstruction and perversion of justice, appointing people to positions for the sole purpose of frustrating established law (a Constitutional violation itself,) witness intimidation, ignoring established law, and all the way up to clearly treasonous behavior, as he has over and over again favored the interests of a foreign dictator over the security of the country.  This is a record of criminality that dwarfs the combined misdeeds of every other President in our history.  It is laughable that Republicans can ignore all of this, but they have set themselves on a course to do exactly that.

In summation, we have one President, Richard Nixon, who was forced to resign due to a series of actions that could be regarded as rising to the level of corruption, one who was impeached over a very legitimate issue of his misuse of power, and one who was impeached in an act of Republican partisan revenge.  There is no precedent for the malignant behavior of Trump, and the notion that his conduct does not justify removal is in itself a blow directed at the mechanisms of democracy.

A British Electoral Tragedy

I am not English, but I am going to presume on my having been a research student at Cambridge to make my opinion known about the upcoming general election there.

It is an absolutely abysmal act of political malfeasance that, given that the Tories have pushed Britain to the brink of complete political and economic collapse, that the left could not find a better candidate to run against them than the utterly useless Jeremy Corbyn.  Britain and the world are going to pay a massive price for this act of partisan irresponsibility.

Well, that's my feeling anyway.  I don't think I need say any more.
