Dear President Obama

You are a corrupt, gutless worm.   I don't think I need to explain. Sincerely, Green Eagle

Wingnut Wrapup

The last this year, I hope.  I don't think they have enough stupid in them to pile up a whole column full of jackass comments between now and Tuesday.  Time was, I could produce one of these posts every day, but the right has become so stuck in its same stupid lies that it has gotten harder and harder to find things that are both idiotic and hilarious.  Well, here we go: Roger L. Simon, PJ Media:  "A Failure to Communicate: The GOP’s Public Relations Debacle" A failure to communicate, Roger?  No, the problem you guys have is success at communicating.  Your stupid choice of a Presidential candidate showed Americans exactly what you have to offer the country.  That's why you lost.  And until you figure that out, you are screwed.  Of course, it's a good thing for the rest of us, so keep lying to yourselves, please. Bridget Johnson, PJ Media:  "NRA Chief: Why Can’t You See That Armed School Guards Is a Good Idea?" Maybe because it's a really, really ba

Grt Ready for the Below the Belt Punch

So, after acting like total jackasses for the last year and a half, the House Republicans are returning to town, and having a party caucus (no Democrats invited, of course) thirty hours before the financial cliff hits.  How is this being described in the mainstream press?  Well, let's try the AP for a sample: "GOP willing to bend on issues after election ...For years, Republicans have adhered fiercely to their bedrock conservative principles, resisting Democratic calls for tax hikes, comprehensive immigration reform and gun control. Now, seven weeks after an electoral drubbing, some party leaders and rank-and-file alike are signaling a willingness to bend on all three issues." And how's that working out for them? "Boehner's attempt to get his own members on board with a deficit-reduction plan that would raise taxes on incomes of more than $1 million failed last week, exposing the reluctance of many in the Republican caucus to entertain more moderate fi

The Biggest Lie of Campaign 2012

No, it's not "you didn't build that."  It's not the story that Jeep is moving to China.  It's not even that Obama is a Kenyan.  Here it is: Mitt's Son Says He Never Wanted to be President Anyway...At least, that's what Tagg Romney says in this new Boston Globe report on what went wrong with Romney's campaign. While the rest of the piece seems to say the problems lay in the Romney campaign's lack of technical advantage, and refusal to introduce the world to Mitt Romney, the human being, this little morsel from the Republican's son points to a larger problem: “He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life. He had no desire to . . . run,” said Tagg, who worked with his mother, Ann, to persuade his father to seek the presidency. “If he could have found someone else to take his place . . . he would have been ecstatic to step aside." He spent the best part of a decade incessantly campaigning for the office.  He spent

Best Wishes

Once again, Green Eagle brings you his best wishes for the holiday season: Well, let's just be thankful that we won't have the Cthulhu of greed, Mitt Romney, running things for the next four years.  That's enough to start anyone's holiday off on a happy note.  After that, you're on your own, buddy.

About That Second Amendment

Image
As I troll through right wing websites, few things irritate me more than the constant raving by every Conservative, from deranged bloggers to the leaders of the Republican party, about the Constitution and how they are the only people in the country with any respect for it.  This jingoistic nonsense is inevitably paired with a total misrepresentation of what the Constitution really says, or what the founding fathers meant when they put it down on paper.  Partly this is wilful lying to get their way, and partly just ignorant parroting of whatever idiocy some other right winger has said, but it is inevitably a very distressing phenomenon, and never more so than when they spout their distortions about the second amendment.  I want to make an effort to find out what the second amendment is really about. First of all, let us remember the text: "A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, being the best security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and

Today's Wingnut Wrapup is dedicated to Carlos R. Romero: "OCALA - Lawyers representing a Marion County man accused of sexual activity with a miniature donkey have filed a motion asking a judge to declare the Florida statute banning sexual activities with animals unconstitutional. Carlos R. Romero, 32, declared last week that he wanted to take his case to trial. He is accused of sexual activities involving animals, a first-degree misdemeanor, after he allegedly was found in a compromising position in August with a female miniature donkey named Doodle." What can you say?  Now, on to people who make Carlos R. Romero look rational: First, the Winner of the World Champion Frenetic Overwriting Award of 2012: Alan Keyes, Renew America:  "There's a sun-drenched, basking lizard quality to John Lennon's siren song of peace that corresponds to a deep longing experienced by all human beings, though not all are willing to admit it. It has the rich, fresh-baked arom

The Worst Negotiator in the World

So, President Obama has decided to use the nation's (undoubtedly fruitless) fixation on the latest mass murder as cover to capitulate completely and utterly to the  corrupt demands of the Republicans that the rich be given a huge reward for ruining the economy, and that the rest of us must pay the price. One would think that the most dimwitted of negotiators would have noticed by now, after having been suckered by the Republicans over and over again, that if you start by offering an implacable enemy half of what he wants, he is only going to ask for more over and over again, and hold you hostage until you end up with nothing and he ends up with virtually everything he wants, while still denouncing you as an inflexible maniac who is preventing them from getting even more, which would have totally fixed things.  Obama has done this over and over again.  The result is that Republicans continue to sabotage the economy at every single step, while getting away with blaming Democrats

News Stories That Just Don't Make Us Feel All That Sad

From that unspeakable twerp, Katie Pavlich, at Town Hall: "Civility: NRA Leaders and Members Getting Death Threats...Are you a member of the National Rifle Assocation? If so, you might want to keep your head down. Unhinged liberals are calling for NRA President David Keene and NRA members to be shot...The NRA has zero resposibility for the horrific tragedy in Connecticut last week." Oh, the poor dears!  Katie is apparently of the opinion that we should feel much worse for these poor people, who must live in fear of being attacked with the weapons they fought their entire lives to put into the hands of crazy people, than we do for, say, a certain 20 children I can think of.  Those children were merely collateral damage in the fight to preserve our FREEDOM! and we must accept their slaughter as a fair price to pay for the right of gun manufacturers to sell anything to anyone they can find.  The NRA, on the other hand did nothing but exercise their God-given right to see to

The End?

As usual, Paul Krugman earns what will predictably be an extra-large helping of abuse from the right, by the unforgivable act of telling the truth: "...what we’re having is a political crisis, born of the fact that one of our two great political parties has reached the end of a 30-year road. The modern Republican Party’s grand, radical agenda lies in ruins...and it retains enough power to do immense damage as it strikes out in frustration. Since the 1970s, the Republican Party has fallen increasingly under the influence of radical ideologues, whose goal is nothing less than the elimination of...the whole legacy of the New Deal and the Great Society. From the beginning, however, these ideologues have had a big problem: The programs they want to kill are very popular...important in conservative thinking, however, was the notion that the G.O.P. could exploit other sources of strength — white resentment, working-class dislike of social change, tough talk on national security — to b

My Sentiments Exactly

No minced words here , from BrooklynBadBoy at Daily Kos: "I think it is time to bring this silly business to a head. We can't keep running government like this, from crisis to crisis. It is time to break the Republican Party and fracture it for the rest of President Obama's term. If Boehner gets overthrown and we get someone worse, so be it. We need to either break this party or just go ahead and shut down the government and default. I prefer the former. The President cannot continue to allow these manufactured events to dominate because the opposition is run by crazy people. If they want to default, fine. One way or the other, this madness has to end." Perfectly said.  The only exception I would make to this is that we need to fracture the Republican party for a lot longer than the next four years.  They are an evil disease, eating away at our country, and after their recent defeat it is already clear that they are never going to change, except for the

The Stupid...It Burns

Here's what it is this time: "Nearly four in 10 U.S. residents say the severity of recent natural disasters such as Superstorm Sandy is evidence the world is coming to an end, as predicted by the Bible... nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of white evangelical Protestants say they think the storms are evidence of the "end times" God, free us from these asses.

The Austerity Con- A Little History

From a very interesting article at Slate, by David Weigel, here is a little history of the austerity craze, and its number one leader, Peter Peterson.  It focuses on the Concord Coalition, an advocacy group formed by Peterson and two Senators in 1992: "For 20 years, a coalition of wealthy people—Pete Peterson chief among them—has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to build public support for austerity...  The modern era of anti-deficit pressure campaigns began in 1992...In Facing Up, a 1993 Concord Coalition manifesto, Peterson argued for raising the full-retirement age to 67, for an “affluence test” to make the wealthy pay more for Medicare, for higher Medicare premiums, and for more taxes on benefits. He argued for a bunch of programs that Democrats would like, too, but honed in on entitlements because, clearly, there could be no future if they survived intact. “The Clinton plan doesn’t come close to balancing the budget, even in the near term,” wrote Peterson. “Inevitably

It's Too Late- They're Gone

What I am about to say is utterly useless in a country so corrupt that half the population has been convinced that global warming doesn't exist, and half the politicians have been bought off by corporations to ignore the inevitable, but that never stopped Green Eagle before, so here I go: The jobs are not coming back.  Sure, if the country would adopt a realistic trade policy, penalizing places that rely on near slave labor and which ignore the most rudimentary environmental concerns, we can bring some manufacturing jobs back from third world countries.  But due to technological advances and increased productivity, a lot of our jobs have been lost forever. This has been obviously coming, I believe, for decades, and yet as usual, right wing opposition has prevented any sort of meaningful response.  I remember twenty or thirty years ago when people insisted that computerization would generate more jobs than it eliminated.  I never understood how anyone could believe such an irra

Wingnut Wrapup

Today's Wingnut Wrapup is dedicated to CNN contributor and all around jerk Erick Erickson, who featured this e-mail on his website Red State today: A right winger getting something like that from a left winger is headline news.  Any reader of Wingnut Wrapup knows I can fill this column up with stuff like that from the right every single day of the year, and have hundreds more just like them left over.  Well, just go on with your phony outrage, Erick, while you do everything you can to incite the same hatred in your readers.  Look back to November 6th and see where it's getting you. Allen West, in an NPR interview:  "My father served in World War II, my brother in Vietnam. My nephew currently serves. And you're going to call me a war criminal? I don't think that's a proper thing to bring up" Aah, I see.  You tortured captives and were forced out of the military, but you are not a war criminal because your father was once in the Army.  Right, that makes se

Brain Dead

They will never change: "PPP's first post election national poll finds that Republicans are taking the results pretty hard... 49% of GOP voters nationally say they think that ACORN stole the election for President Obama. We found that 52% of Republicans thought that ACORN stole the 2008 election for Obama, so this is a modest decline, but perhaps smaller than might have been expected given that ACORN doesn't exist anymore." No comment needed, really.

The Two Stooges

I.e. Republicans and the press. So, Congessman Boehner has now presented his "proposal" on the budget, pretty much summed up at Daily Kos as follows:  "It's neither principled, nor moderate, nor a compromise. It's just more bad Republican math being passed off as a plan." In fact, it is nothing but the same old pandering  to the ultra-rich at the expense of all of the rest of us, juiced up with the usual avalanche of feigned outrage over the fact that the President is sticking with the proposals that just won him re-election. Well, here are a couple of mainstream media responses to this charade.  Forget the links- this kind of dishonesty doesn't deserve one any more than the fools I quote in Wingnut Wrapup: Luke Russert, NBC News:  "GOP offers own proposal to avert 'fiscal cliff'...In a letter to President Barack Obama, House Republican leaders outlined the contours of a deal they said would achieve a net savings of $2.2 trillion. The p

Responsible Governing, Republican Style

Image
Well, here's the latest news on the (bogus) fiscal cliff negotiations and the middle class tax cut: "Republicans are seriously considering a Doomsday Plan if fiscal cliff talks collapse entirely.  It’s quite simple:  House Republicans would allow a vote on extending the Bush middle class tax cuts (the bill passed in August by the Senate) and offer the President nothing more:  no extension of the debt ceiling, nothing on unemployment, nothing on closing loopholes.  Congress would recess for the holidays and the president would face a big battle early in the year over the debt ceiling. Two senior Republican elected officials tell me this doomsday plan is becoming the most likely scenario."   Intransigence- the face of the Repubican Party Brilliant.  Here, apparently, is their strategy:  Let Obama have a huge victory with the middle class, and rather than be a part of it, make sure that Democrats can tell the country for years that they did it without a shred of R

Wingnut Wrapup

Time to clear out the latest load of trash- more will be piling up any day now, and I don't want to end up on an episode of Bullshit Hoarders: Let's just start out with this week's Dumbest Thing In A Major Newspaper: Anne Gearan and Steven Mufson, Washington Post:  "The choice of a successor to Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state has turned into an unexpectedly nasty political fight that could cost the White House valuable goodwill with Republicans." Goodwill with Repubicans?  What the fuck do you think you are talking about?  They have been willing to destroy the economy for four years in order to try to wreck Obama, and in the couple of weeks since the election, they have made it perfectly clear that they intend to go on sabotaging him for the next four years.  They hate him for daring to beat them while being black, and they have licensed themselves to stoop to any contemptible conduct they can think of if it stands a chance of hurting him.  These
