Bullying

Trump gave an unusually lunatic interview yesterday to the New York Times .  I don't want to deal very much with the substance of his comments (there really wasn't much,) but I do want to talk about what he is up to; something which continues to go unnoticed by almost everybody. Trump's behavior, since his childhood, has revolved around bullying other people to get what he wants, which is a sense that he is not a degraded person.  The way this sick person convinces himself of his superiority is to force other, presumably inferior, people to do what he wants.  Now, he can't just beat on people any more, so he satisfies this sick need by making others go along with things he claims which they, he and everyone else know to be false.  When you understand this, you realize that the detachment of his claims from reality is not a defect but a feature.  This is because the whole point of his talk is not to seek the truth or push an ideology, but totally to humiliate t...

The Art of the Cave

Image
So in the end, the real interest of the world was not, surprisingly enough, on whether John Podesta refused to give some e-mails to the government which were not in his possession*, but exactly how Donald Trump, as President, would stand up to the man who all of our intelligence agencies say was responsible for massively interfering with the integrity of our election process, putting a corrupt, stupid tool (that would be Trump himself) in the White House instead of the massively experienced, honest, serious public servant who should be there. I guess we should have gotten a sign of how that was going to go, the day before the much-heralded meeting between Trump and Putin, when Trump pretty much preempted taking a strong stand about this near act of war, by declaring against the determination of all of the American experts, that there was no reason to believe Russia was behind the treachery in his favor in the recent election. Well, they met. I saw a little of this (very little,...

North Korea Again

Image
Okay, it is apparently time once again for me to point out the truth about North Korea's belligerent posturing that should be obvious to people with even the most shallow knowledge of the way things work. North Korea is a military dictatorship, and what's more, a very poor one that devotes an obscene portion of its revenue to its military.  Now, anyone who knows a thing about military dictatorships knows that most of that money ends up in the pockets of the generals, who are the actual rulers of their country, not some bumbling thirty year old nitwit. Do you think these generals would really leave the security of their racket in the hands of this buffoon? No, it is completely obvious that Kim Jong Un has one role and one role only to play in his country's rule, and that is to keep the populace so frightened of foreign attack that they tolerate being reduced to poverty so the generals can have all the money.  These generals, however, enjoy being able to grow rich fro...

A Land Gone Mad

We know now that even the right wing FBI and all of our right wing intelligence services (because right wing is what they have always been) admit that the spies of a foreign dictator were major factors in the election of the man who criminally sits in the White House (well, except on the weekends, when we pay $3 million so he can play golf.) Hey, so what? In the entire history of this country, for almost two and a half centuries, if anything like this had happened, this man would be out of the White House and in jail by now, if he had not already faced execution. But this time around?  Who cares? We watched as Republicans shouted at the top of their voices about utterly made up crimes that Obama and Hillary had allegedly committed; which even if they had been real would have amounted to almost nothing compared to the high treason that Donald Trump has obviously, beyond the shadow of a doubt, committed.  We watched them demand impeachment and imprisonment over and over ...

Do You Know Who This Is?

If not, you should take a moment to find out, as his story is likely to be very relevant in the coming months.

Further Adventures of Trumpy

Well, let's see what President Trump has gotten up to in the last two days.  He has:       Blamed Obama for the leaks coming out of his own staff.       Blamed the generals for the failure of a raid in Yemen, which he cooked up over dinner with         Bannon and his son in law.       Implied that the recent wave of bomb threats and vandalism directed at Jewish targets were actually done by the Jews themselves, to make his Aryan supremacist supporters look bad.       And then he delivered a speech.  A speech filled with lies and hollow promises; a speech whose only virtue was that Trump did not dissolve into a vicious, abusive tantrum against someone who disagreed with him. And the response?  Well, apparently the mainstream press has decided to get back to their primary duty of insuring that the American buy into whatever vicious garbage the Republicans feed them.  Enough "stand...

The Silver Lining

In a very dark cloud: I think that the utter, brain-dead fools who make up the Republican base were going to go on for eternity, denying what was obvious to anyone who can put two thoughts together.  Maybe the only way to put a stop to it all was to let them have exactly the government they have been screaming for, and let them see what would happen. They didn't even get it when their halfway lunatic Republican Bush government brought them a three trillion dollar war of aggression and (but for the grace of Barack Obama) a massive depression.  Well, this time they went whole hog. And let's give a big thank you to Donald Trump, who showed the world in just four weeks what Conservative government is all about.  This way, we won't have to wait four years to return to sanity; or twelve years and fifty million deaths, as was the case with the Nazis.

Death is Easy, Comedy is Hard

Sorry, Edmund Kean, these days, comedy is easy too.

FLYNN!

Well, this has certainly been an interesting 24 hours. There is so much talk about this that I am not going to recount all the details here.  I just want to note that Michael Flynn is the third high level Trump associate to have to be disappeared because of ties to and payoffs from the Russians, the others being former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Carter Page. I don't recall any President in history to have people in this position forced out because of ties to a hostile foreign government.  And Trump, only three weeks into his Presidency, now has three.  Is there anyone on earth naive enough to believe that Trump himself is not involved in this treasonous relationship with Russia? Well, that's it.  The problem is that the American people have been so propagandized all of their lives to believe that our form of government is immune to corruption and betrayal on this level, that most Americans cannot emotionally process what is going on right in front of t...

Wingnut Wrapup

Image
Man, this has been painful lately.  I found some of this stuff and then couldn't even bear to look at wingnut websites for days.  Sorry, but here I am, at it again. Jonah Goldberg, Town Hall:  "'America first' Isn't a Trump Creation" No, it isn't.  As I remember it was popular in the 1930's among people who supported Nazi Germany. And now, what passes for humor on the right: Finally, American workers are going to be safe from 76 straight months of job growth. Christine Rousselle, Town Hall:  "House Votes To End Taxpayer Funding of Abortion" Something that ended in 1976.  Next:  House votes to end slavery.  House votes to go to war against Spain.  House... well, you get the idea.  Glad to know that the House Republicans are using their time well. Tyler O'Neal, PJ Media:  "President Trump Promises 'Major Investigation' into VOTER FRAUD" Just like the 'major investigations' into Benghazi and Hill...

Finasteride

It has just been revealed that Donald Trump takes a drug called Finasteride.  This medicine was originally developed, and still widely used, for treating benign enlarged prostate conditions, but was then found to be effective in preventing hair loss, which is apparently why Trump takes it. A couple of remarks about this.  First, from the Washington Post: "a recent study demonstrated changes in the levels of certain steroids in cerebrospinal fluid of men taking finasteride for hair loss. These steroids have been shown to influence brain function, and their presence may help explain the profound psychological changes such as depression and suicidality that have been associated with finasteride use." And an enlarged list of potential side effects, from the Post Finasteride Syndrome Foundation: "The most common persistent side effects of finasteride are loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, panic attacks, Peyronie’s disease...
