If a Tree Falls In the Woods

And nobody hears it, is it really running for President at all?

First of all, a note about my absence lately:  My wife got me to sign up for an account at Threads, which is sort of like X without the assholes.  I've spent a little time establishing myself there, and I have to say, I do like the relatively immediate exchange of views, but I don't mean to give up my blog- there are still so many things that can't be dealt with in a couple hundred words, so, perhaps to your dismay, I am back.

So, what motivated the above question is the fact that the Sunday New York Times today had seven articles about Trump, and absolutely zero about Kamala Harris.

The Republicans have a problem with Harris, in that virtually everyone who sees her likes her and immediately understands how qualified she is to be President.  They have tried mightily the last month to find some way to smear her, but have been spectacularly unsuccessful- the tactics of character assassination that worked so well with Al Gore and John Kerry and Hillary Clinton and now with Joe Biden have dissolved in the mist when confronted with her immediate and massive appeal.  Trump tried his usual tactic of just ramping up the hatred but even that has pretty much failed.  So I guess it is not surprising that the next thing they are going to try is to just erase her from the Presidential race.  Trump has been quite successful the last week or two at stealing the attention of the complicit press from her through a series of jackass stunts, but even those are losing their impact. So he has turned to a lesson learned from a former world leader who he no doubt admires:

Just make her disappear.  I mean, it worked for Stalin.  And who, apart from Adolf Hitler, could possibly appeal to Trump more than Stalin?

Everybody knows perfectly well who Trump is, but many Americans are still not sure about Kamala. Given Trump's disastrous failure to run a campaign that makes himself look like anything but the barbarian bully he is, the only answer he has is to prevent Kamala from gaining traction with undecided voters.  And here we go.  Of course the ignorant and stupid people who have not yet figured out which candidate would be better for the country don't read the Times,* but it sets the tone for a lot of national reporting, and the example I cite above is only one instance in what I believe will be a national campaign among Republicans and the Republican-owned mainstream press, to just make people forget that she exists.

I have to say, given the circumstances, it might be their best shot.  We'll see how it turns out, I guess.

*Not that the rest of us are doing anymore, but that is a topic for another time.

The mainstream media are owned (indirectly, but still de facto owned) by billionaires. Biden planned to raise taxes on billionaires, so their media hounded him out of the race. Harris, so far, is sticking with the same plan, so they're trying to sabotage her too. At this point, an NYT or WaPo subscription is essentially a campaign donation to Trump.
