President Obama is Holding a Press Conference Right Now

I wonder what he's giving up to the Republicans today.

There's Nothing So Bad

That Joe Lieberman can't make it worse.  Think the Republican plans for medicare are bad?

"Lieberman, Coburn unveil Medicare plan

Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) acknowledged that there's something in their Medicare plan for just about everyone to dislike. But they say it's necessary to bring the program under control.

"Nobody's going to like this plan. We understand that," Coburn said at a press conference Tuesday as he and Lieberman rolled out their proposal.

Most of the plan's savings would come from some form of benefit reductions or shifting costs to seniors — a stark contrast to the Medicare cuts believed to be on the table in talks over the debt ceiling."

We know Tom Coburn, one of the most corrupt members of Congress, is against anything that doesn't benefit the very rich, but holy Joe claims to be a decent man.

"(Lieberman) said he hopes the proposal will create a "bipartisan beachhead" on Medicare after years of acrimony and rotating partisan attacks."

A bipartisan beachhead to do what? Send the nation's elderly into abject poverty?  Leave even more money for oil subsidies and capital gains tax cuts?

There truly are no words to describe how evil this guy is.  He is willing to send millions into poverty and sickness without a second of remorse.  Lieberman is Goebbels evil, Himmler evil.  Strong language, but it's true. The sooner the world is rid of him, the better.

Michelle Bachmann Strikes Another Blow for Truth

Via Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs, we learn that Michelle Bachmann had this to say when announcing her campaign for president today in Waterloo, Iowa:

"John Wayne was from Waterloo."

Almost right, Michelle.  Actually, John Wayne Gacy was from Waterloo, Iowa.

Listen, let's forget politics here and just talk one sheets:

Is this one of the most pathetic things you have ever seen, or what?

Tragedy In Gaza- It's Relative

I was amused by this story in the New York Times today:

"In assessing the condition of the 1.6 million people who live in Gaza, there are issues of where to draw the baseline and — often — what motivates the discussion. It has never been among the world’s poorest places. There is near universal literacy and relatively low infant mortality, and health conditions remain better than across much of the developing world.

Israel’s critics say the fact that the conditions in Gaza do not rival the problems in sub-Saharan Africa only makes the political and human rights crisis here all the more tragic..."

I guess, if the residents of Gaza were all multimillionaires, it would make the situation there one of the worst catastrophes in world history.

Here are two things that are true, were true the day that President Obama took office, and will continue to be true forever:

1.  Republicans caused our current economic problems by following an "ideology" which is nothing but a cover for delivering the country's wealth into the hands of the rich.  This Republican behavior is what caused the Great Depression, and it is what caused the 2008 economic collapse.  After Bush, as after Reagan and after Hoover, Democrats were left to clean up the mess, while Republicans screamed abuse at them for every move they made.

2.  The aggression against Iraq and the war in Afghanistan were collectively one of the greatest military blunders in the history of warfare.  The incompetence of the Bush-Cheney administration and their viciousness toward the local populations left these wars absolutely un-winnable in any meaningful fashion.  Not one penny spent after Obama was elected could change that fact, or produce any kind of positive outcome to something started so poorly and with such malicious motives.

Had Obama and the Democrats stated these two obvious facts clearly and consistently from the time they took office, they would have come in for a landslide of abuse from the right, but they would still have been telling the truth; and today they would have a consistent, factual narrative to rebut Republican lies.  Instead, they cowered in a corner for three years, while Republicans used the media to convince a significant part of the American people that everything wrong in the country is the fault of the Democrats.  So there is a fair chance that voters in 2012 will return the country to the hands of the people who destroyed our lives only three years ago.

After the last Republican catastrophe, it took them over thirty years to con the American people into electing another right wing president.  That is because we had strong Democratic presidents- Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, who were not afraid to govern with Democratic principles, which worked to protect the American People, and were not so afraid of being called mean names by Republicans that they hid in the shadows and allowed the right to do its dirty work.

When Obama was elected, I wrote him a letter, in which I asked one thing of him in return for all the work we did to elect him: that he tell the truth.

Too much to ask, I guess.

Balancing the Budget by Doing Nothing

In case you have not yet heard about this, please take a look at this chart, from Talking Points Memo:

The top chart projects the budget deficit if the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire; the lower chart shows what will happen if they are renewed.

Yes, if Congress does nothing, and allows the Bush tax cuts to expire, the entire budget deficit will disappear by the end of the next Presidential term.  I'll tell you what- this would probably cost my family a couple of thousand dollars a year, but at this point I would gladly pay it to shut the Republicans up about this bogus issue which they caused and which they are now blaming on the Democrats, as usual.

Not that the Republicans won't have plenty of other bogus issues to trot out, but at least we would be treated (for the second time in three decades) to the sight of Republicans screaming about the national debt while piling it up, and Democrats fixing the problem.  Not that right wingers would give Obama any more credit than they gave Clinton, nor that they would ever admit that their gods Reagan and Bush created the problems they scream about, but I'm sure we are all past hoping for that to happen.

Real vs. Fox

For a little amusement, check out this site, which I found via Little Green Footballs. It contains a bunch of real headlines, with the leads for the stories from Fox.  It'll give you a good laugh.

People (At the New York Times) Who Don't Get the Concept

Roger Cohen in this case:

"Something immense is happening as the world transitions to a hyperconnected state where, for many, the distinction between the real and virtual worlds has ceased to exist.... As Bob Dylan put it, “Something is happening here but you don’t know what it is, do you, Mr. Jones?”

"for many, the distinction between the real and virtual worlds has ceased to exist?"  Really, when the New York Times wants to publish an opinion piece on something, do they deliberately hunt out the single person on their staff that knows less about the subject than anyone else?

Does Mr. Cohen really suspect that people online can't tell the difference between, say, the real world and World of Warcraft?  God, talk about not knowing what it is.

Movies We Won't Be Bothering To See

"A new anti-abortion movie called "Gates Of Hell" envisions a world where the government outlaws abortion because a group of black terrorists begins murdering abortion doctors."

Produced, incidentally, by a writer for World Net Daily.  My prediction?   This film's grosses are going to make Atlas Shrugged Part I look like Titanic.

Obama Announces Withdrawal of 10,000 Troops From Afghanistan

Out of about 100,000.

Sorry, Barack, you're pulling out about 90,000 too few.

She Quit Again

You know who I'm talking about:

"Is Sarah Palin already finished with her national bus tour?

While the Alaska governor hadn't publicly announced additional stops beyond her East Coast jaunt earlier this month, Palin aides had hinted she'd take her bus tour to key primary states such as Iowa and South Carolina.

But according to Real Clear Politics' Scott Conroy, those plans are now in "limbo," as Palin has opted to stay in Alaska, where "skies are currently alight for over 19 hours a day and the Bristol Bay salmon fishing season is nearing its peak."

A spokesman for Palin did not respond to a request for comment."

This lunatic woman can't even finish her supposed "vacation."  But it's all fine, right?  She's a serious political figure that has earned a place in the national debate.

God help us.

Update:  Well, now that she's made a fool out of herself once again, Sarah is claiming that she had to go home for jury duty. Give me a break- how stupid does she think people are?

Wingnut Wrapup

I turn my back and the rats come out...

Let's start out with a wonderful commentary on the causes of the recent Arizona wildfires:

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  Al Gore Blames Climate Change Rather Than Greenies For Fires in AZ...While speaking at the Games for Change Festival in New York City (funny how they always hold these "climate change" conferences in energy sucking cities) yesterday, Al Gore blamed the massive Arizona Wallow fire on climate change."

Funny they hold their conferences in big cities, huh?  Why don't they hold them at the North Pole or in the middle of the Sahara Desert?  It must be that they are a bunch of criminals that don't really believe in global warming.  I sure can't think of any other reason.  Katie maunders on:

“Today, the biggest fire in the history of the state of Arizona is spreading to New Mexico. Today, the biggest flood in the history of the Mississippi River Valley is under way right now,” Gore said.

“At what point is there a moment where we say, ‘Oh, we ought to do something about this?’
(Side note: in the video above, Gore calls the flooding in Nashville a "thousand year flood." If that's the case, then why is he citing climate change as a reason for flooding? People weren't driving cars around in Nashville 1000 years ago)"

That makes sense.  There weren't cars a thousand years ago, so there is no such thing as global warming.  But don't worry, Katie has a solution!

"Yes, there is something that can be done: allow private industry back on federal forest land. What Gore, and other extreme environmentalists, failed to mention is the responsibility the green movement holds for massive wildfires in the past 30 years due to policies that prevent private industries like logging, ranching and grazing from clearing out a build up of dead brush the forests."

Of course, without all that dead brush, soon the soil in the forests will become so depleted that all the trees will die.  But who cares, when some big corporation (the Koch Brothers' Georgia Pacific, for example) can make money out of cutting down all the trees?

Nicholas Freiling, Town Hall:  "Surprise! ObamaCare Makes Millions More Eligible For Medicaid"

To us a feature, to them a bug.

Brent Bozell, Town Hall:  "Palin Movie vs. Media Mythology...The movie is not an attempt at objectivity. It's a campaign film...Still, it would be nice if journalists would be open to considering as accurate the movie's version of Palin's life and career"

It's admittedly a partisan hack job, but "it would be nice" if the media would swallow it whole.  Nice for whom, Brent?

Town Hall:  "Bristol Palin Reveals Big Secrets in New Book"

The big secrets of a teenage unwed mother with rich parents.  Oh, that should be SO interesting.

Confederate Yankee:  "The Definitive Scandal: ‘Gunwalker’ Much Worse Than ‘Iran-Contra’

The horrible truth:  The more than 2,000 weapons that the Obama Justice Department allowed to be delivered to Mexican narco-terrorist cartels are thought to have been used in the shooting of an estimated 150 Mexican law enforcement officers and soldiers battling the cartels. Two American law enforcement officers have also presumably fallen prey to these weapons, along with an unknown number of civilians on both sides of the border."

In case you are not up on this gigantic "scandal,"  the ATF allowed some guns to enter illegal channels, in a probably idiotic attempt to trace where they went.  Now, in Iran-Contra, Ronald Reagan gave two thousand missiles to our sworn enemies, the Mullahs in Iran  (that's treason, by the way- real, Constitutional treason,) and took the illegal profits and used them to fund a fascist, terrorist, drug dealing militia trying to overthrow a legally elected government.  But that's just fine- Reagan was a Republican.

Kyle-Ann Schriver:  "Michele Bachmann Does Founding Mothers — and the Rest of Us — Proud...Isn't it time to see what she can do in the White House?"

I know what she could do in the White House.  It would be half Mussolini and half Curly Howard.   Anyway, Kyle-Ann isn't done ruining our lunch:

"I’m wont to laugh at liberal women who love to talk up our Founding Mothers, and how those evil, spotlight-hogging white men sliced and diced all the patriot women right out of our history books. Liberal women love to take this tack when shoring up their own spotlight-hogging contributions to our current politics."

Founding mothers?  Did you ever hear any liberal women talk about founding mothers?  I sure never did.  Sorry, Kyle-Ann.  You are the first person I have ever heard talk about founding mothers.  Now, go outside and play with the other kids.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "For the Record… Ronald Reagan Didn’t Promise to Play Nice In His Speech at Liberty State Park"

For the record, he didn't promise to commit treason, wreck the economy and destroy the moral fabric of the country.  But he did those things.  So who cares what he promised?

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "It’s Time To Play “Who’s The Dummy?”…Palin vs Obama"

Boy, that's going to be one short game.  They could start by asking them about when Paul Revere warned the British about our weapons.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Obama EPA’s Latest Ruling Will Cost at Least $11 Billion a Year"

Shocking!  Just shocking, I tell you!  Here's what Jim didn't think was important enough to justify the expense:

"…The rule proposed in March, according to EPA, would prevent as many as 17,000 premature deaths and 11,000 heart attacks a year, among other health benefits."

Means nothing, I guess.

World Net Daily EXCLUSIVE:  "What does Rush Limbaugh really think of Jon Huntsman?"

Man, I've been losing sleep worrying about that one.

Joseph Farah, World Net Daily:  "Why Obama won't even run again, let alone win"

What, the world is going to be hit by a gigantic asteroid?  Or maybe one of your right wing Patriots is going to use his second amendment rights on him?

WND Exclusive:  "Whom would you most like as personal Alaska tour guide?"

Keith Richards.

And now a helpful piece of information from my new BFF at News Cottage Three:  "'Each Day 18 U.S War Vets Commit Suicide' While Jews Go To Harvard"

Man, I never put those two things together before.  Jews at Harvard- that would make anyone want to commit suicide.

Like Republicans Say, Everyone Can Get Medical Care in America

Take this guy for example:

"James Richard Verone woke up June 9 with a sense of anticipation.
He took a shower.
Ironed his shirt.
Hailed a cab.

Then robbed a bank.

He wasn’t especially nervous. If anything, Verone said he was excited to finally execute his plan to gain access to free medical care.

Until last week Verone had never been in trouble with the law.

Now he hopes to be booked as a felon and held in prison where he can be treated for several physical afflictions."

See, just like the Republicans say, the medical care system in this country works just fine for everyone.  No need for a change.  Just get back to whatever you were watching on TV, and forget about it.  People a lot smarter and a lot richer than you are taking care of everything.

Another Sickening Republican Ad

Think the one attacking Janice Hahn was an anomaly?  This one, from a Republican candidate in Nevada, takes on the Chinese, instead of rappers, with a phony Chinese reporter:

And it's still 16 months until the election.  This is just going to get worse and worse, with these ads being run by unidentifiable groups, and the Republican candidates, of course, claiming no knowledge of them.

Another Republican Economic Myth

Debunked by Brad DeLong, who is right so often that he has, of course, been denied a seat at the media table alongside such luminaries as Erick Erickson and Andrew Breitbart.

Brad presents this chart:

and comments:

"Not only is (the Republican) claim that Obama's policies and not the recession have "discouraged business investment" simply wrong--nonresidential business investment has grown under Obama much more strongly than other components of GDP--but the claim that business investment is lower than we would expect it to be at this stage of the recovery is simply wrong: it is higher."

Not that the truth will stop the mainstream press from swallowing whole the standard Republican lie about how bad Obama has been for the economy.

No End To His Capacity for Betrayal

Who else?  Joe Lieberman.  It's not just Democrats that Holy Joe enjoys stabbing in the back:

"Joe Lieberman, first Jew on a presidential ticket, (is) embracing Beck, the leading purveyor of anti-Semitic memes in the mass media. One of the most visible Jews in America was making common cause with a man who invoked apocalyptic Christian theology in promoting his rally in Israel."

Dana Milbank, who claims to still respect Lieberman (for some utterly incomprehensible reason) trots out the usual mainstream press apologia for him, asserting that Lieberman must be unaware of Glenn Beck's long history of antisemitism.  Well, you can't sell that crap here.  Lieberman knows perfectly well who and what Beck is.  Not only is he willing to betray the Democratic party, he is willing to betray the religion that he claims is a centerpiece of his life.

This real life Wormtongue is truly one of the most loathsome characters in the country.  He'd better hope that his religious beliefs prove false, or he's in for a rough time when he meets his maker.

Republicans Dive in the Electoral Gutter Already

In case you haven't seen this ad, please take a moment to look at it.  It is a Republican political spot attacking Janice Hahn, an absolutely decent L.A. politician who is running for an open Congressional seat.  You should really see it.

I have mentioned  my expectation that the Republicans, enabled by the corrupt right wing justices on the Supreme Court, are about to launch the most nauseating electoral campaign any of us have ever seen.  Well, here's an early view of what to expect in the next year and a half.

Wingnut Wrapup

These people have really been boring me to tears lately.  It's taken me days to concentrate enough to put together this load of their crap.  Too bad Obama or some other Democratic leader can't be bothered to call them out on their endless lies.

Dennis Prager, Town Hall:  "What Weiner Did Was Worse Than an Affair...If I were a member of Congress, I would not be livid at every one of my colleagues who had had an affair. But I would be livid at Weiner."

Because, of course, the guys who had affairs were Republicans, and therefore they walk with God.  Weiner had sex with no one and never even met the targets of his e-mails, but what he did is far worst than actual serial adulterers like David Vitter and Newt Gingrich, because Weiner is a Democrat.  Hope I cleared that moral issue up.  Of course, Dennis isn't done exposing himself as a world class hypocrite:

"I cannot think of a single event that symbolizes the decline of American society as much as Weiner's actions"

You can't, Dennis?  How about torture? How about the murder of  hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in a war of aggression?  How about thieving the wealth of the American people to give to the rich?  How about a political party that has reawakened the monster of race hatred in order to win elections?  How about that party's never ending struggle to destroy a program that keeps millions of Americans out of abject poverty?

No, to Dennis, a picture of a man in his underwear is worse than all of that.

Peter Roff, Pajamas Media:  "The Big GOP Debate-The strong conservative field solidifies."

Keep telling yourself that, Peter.

Walid Shoebat, Pajamas Media:  "Why Does Israel Allow a Seditious Man To Serve ... in the Knesset?"

Because Israelis believe in democracy, Walid, and they don't kick people out of their legislature just because a known right wing liar like yourself says they should be eliminated.

And noooo!  Oh God, here comes Dennis Prager again!

Dennis Prager:  "But the left should not laugh too loudly [at the failed Rapture]. The religious world has far fewer doomsday predictions than the left does. At least every few years, the secular-left frightens itself — and tries to frighten everyone else — about another doomsday scenario."

Dennis is referring, of course, to global warming.  That's just like some right wing idiot with a bunch of radio stations using them to pump money out of suckers by spreading some infantile fantasy.  Dennis continues:

"Compared to the global warming scenario, I'll face the Rapture — and I'm not even Christian."

Right, Dennis, that makes sense.  You'd rather have the world destroyed than hurt oil companies.  That's why you're a Republican.

Larry Kudlow:  "big-government stimulus never works."

Except, of course, for ending the depression, when it did work.

Sarah Palin:  "He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed."

John Boehner:  "Republicans are convinced that burnishing the public’s view of their unpopular proposal to overhaul Medicare depends on assuring today’s seniors that they won’t be affected.

“The retirees are going to be taken care of; there’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it,”

I wouldn't bet on that one.

And this news item:

"Sarah Palin blasted the Obama Administration’s job-killing regulations during a chat with fishermen in New Hampshire on Thursday night.  Palin’s husband, Todd, is also a commercial fisherman."

Well, in the sense that Joe is a plumber.  I don't think you do that much commercial fishing when your wife makes $12 million a year.  By the way, the "job-killing regulations" Sarah Palin is referring to are all safety requirements imposed by those evil Communists at the Coast Guard.  I guess allegedly killing jobs is more important than actually killing people.

David Limbaugh, Town Hall:  "Only One Party Can Solve Debt Problem"

Why, the party that created the debt problem, of course!  And they will solve the debt problem by doing exactly what caused the debt problem, only more of it.  That should work just great.

And the special certificate for adult coverage of the issues:

Erick Erickson, Red State:  "Anthony Weiner Wears Underwear on His Head"

The sort of political analysis that gets you hired by CNN.

Clayton Cramer, Pajamas Media:  "California Pays the Price for Shortsighted Prison Policy"

No, we're paying the price for a whole lot of Republicans that just looove throwing people in prison, but don't want to pay the bill.

And speaking of which:

Jerome R. Corsi, World Net Daily:  "Obama forgers admit they produced phony documents"

Of course, the document they admitted to having forged was the "Kenyan" birth certificate that Orly Taitz and the people at World Net Daily fell for, hook line and sinker. This somehow proves that Obama's real birth certificate is phony too.

Robert R. Barker, American Thinker:  "Roosevelt was more destructive to the economy in his own time than Obama has been in his... thus far.  Obama is treading the same path as FDR, repeating the same steps that turned a recession into the Great Depression."

And there are people who actually believe there was no depression before March, 1933, when Roosevelt took over.

James G. Wiles, American Thinker:  "What Would Lord Nelson Say?  The British welfare state has sunk the Royal Navy."

Well, that's the headline, anyway.  Here's the quote this article was based on:

"Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope told a Parliamentary committee yesterday that the Conservative government's defense cuts have made it impossible for the Royal Navy to continue its military mission in support of the Libyan rebels beyond another 90 days."

Funny, I don't see a word in there about any welfare state.  I do, however, see an Admiral attacking Conservative politicians.  Funny, that didn't make it into the headline, huh?  And by the way, James, Admiral Nelson lived before countries could be attacked by something called the airplane.  Look it up.  A lot has happened since the Battle of Trafalgar.

Tom Rowan, American Thinker:  "Giving the Good Game of Golf a Bad Name"

Let's just get right to the point here.  That would be when a black president plays golf.  Mr. Rowan makes it perfectly clear that it was just fine for Bush, Eisenhower and any other president to play golf, but not the black one. That degrades the game of Golf. I guess I see what Tom is getting at here.

1. Sarah Palin didn't write it.  2.  It is an almost unendurable piece of insincere, syrupy crap.  Other than that, REALLY GREAT there.  Man, right wingers are good at lying to themselves.

And finally, another outrage from the world of public education:

Squatlo Rant:  Parents, school administrators, and quite a few grown-ups in the community of Russellville, Arkansas are upset because of a middle school yearbook's inclusion of a Top Five Worst People of All Time list, a list that put George W. Bush and his sock puppet master Dick "Big Time" Cheney right alongside Adolph Hitler, Osama bin Laden, and Charles Manson.

What a bunch of stupid kids.  Charlie Manson and Osama Bin Laden didn't kill anywhere near as many civilians as George and Dick.

Less Important than Anthony Weiner

Here's a story from yesterday that the vast majority of our "liberal" press found far less interesting than Anthony Weiner's twitter habits:

"Ohio Congressman Is Convicted in Sex Case, but Aide Says He'll Run for Re-election

Representative Donald E. Lukens, Republican of Ohio, was convicted today in a case in which prosecutors said he had sex with a 16-year-old girl."

Goodness me, I wonder why no one in the media was interested in this story.

Has The Whole Country Gone Crazy?

Or just Texas?  This news just in:

"(HARDIN, Texas) - Deputies who swarmed a rural Texas neighborhood Tuesday to search a farmhouse where a person claiming to be a psychic told officials multiple bodies were buried found no evidence of even a single homicide, a sheriff's official says.

"We have to take tips like this very seriously,"  (Liberty County Judge Craig) McNair said."

You do?   You do have to take claims from self-appointed psychics seriously?  And why, exactly?

No, on second thought, don't tell me.  I don't really want to know.

Out with Weiner

Listening to Thom Hartmann's show this morning, I have been very surprised as both Hartmann and a long succession of callers argued that what he did is personal and should not result in political consequences for him.

I totally disagree.  This man's distasteful behavior has given the press ammunition for years to come to use specious arguments of equivalence to dismiss the most vile Republican abuses.  Furthermore, he has enabled the press to continue to treat one of the most malignant smear merchants in recent memory as a reliable source, which will allow him to continue his efforts to destroy left-leaning organizations and political figures.  How many groups like ACORN and individuals like Shirley Sherrod will Andrew Breitbart now be able to crush, thanks to Anthony Weiner's lack of self control?

I don't care what Anthony Weiner's politics have been in the past.  This man has demonstrated to all of us that the needs of the entire nation mean less to him than his most low, animal instincts.  Regardless of how liberal he claims to be, we cannot afford to place our fate in the hands of such a person.

When You are Wrong, You are Wrong

Meaning me.  No way to get around it, I've been as gullible as many of the right wingers I make fun of.

The Weiner man did it all, exactly as accused, and we now find he did more than we even had heard.

I fell for his denials, hook, line and sinker.   I'm sorry, and I'll try to be even more cynical about politicians in the future.

The worst is, Weiner was going after that crook, Clarence Thomas, and that is now completely out the window.  So this hideous, corrupt person will remain on the Supreme Court, selling us out to the rich as fast as he can, all because Anthony Weiner couldn't keep his penis to himself.   Man, I hope his (very beautiful, by the way) wife, who he only married a few months ago, dumps him flat.  Anyway, he's through, so he can tweet all the college girls he wants.  I don't ever want to hear him open his big fat mouth in public again.

What a Surprise!

This headline:

"New film on Palin is a fawning one-sided valentine to her"

That would be the soon-to-be-released film by a right wing loon and made with Palin's cooperation.

"Global Commission: Drug War Has Failed"

No shit, Sherlock.

A Little Consumer Service

I am sure that many of you have, by now, heard numerous stories lately about the alleged connection between cell phones and cancer.

Here is a detailed article from Orac, one of the best defenders of real science to be found online, revealing the (usual) lack of any real scientific understanding behind this latest scare, and pointing out the extreme weakness of this alleged research and its conclusions.

As usual, this story is likely to be nothing but the usual alarmist hooey, like the vaccine-autism nonsense we hear so much about.  I just thought you'd like to know.

Wingnut Wrapup

Well, let's just start out with a very, very small sample of the filth the right is spreading about "Weinergage."  Do I need to remind you that it seems that Congressman Weiner didn't send this alleged twitter post and the "victim" swears she never received it?  Of course, when did the truth or common human decency stop Republicans?  Well, here we go, through a very dirty looking glass:

Town Hall:  "'Weinergate' Scandal Escalates...Rep. Weiner Evades Questions about his Twitter Troubles"

He evades questions about something that never happened.  That just goes to prove what a scum he is, and by extension every other Democrat on earth.  Whereas when a Republican cheats on his wife, it means nothing.  NOTHING, I tell you.

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Democratic Congressman Battles Mounting 'Weinergate' Scandal "

Mounting, because Republicans won't stop spreading the smear, even though it's a lie.  Compare that to the years of coverups that the Republicans perpetrate when it's David Vitter or Ensign or the toilet stall guy or the Republican congressman who molested congressional pages or the governor in Argentina or Ted Haggard or all the other right wingers taking a little walk on the wild side.  They couldn't catch a Democrat at something like this, I guess, so they just had to make it up.

Daily Caller:  "Weiner’s office refuses to say if lewd photo is of congressman. No police investigation underway."

Because, sad to say, spreading malicious lies about public figures apparently isn't illegal.

American Spectator:  "Others have gone farther than Breitbart's writers, seeing Friday's "Twitter incident" (as Politico called it in their headline) as part of a pattern of Weiner's online behavior. The congressman, who last summer married a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, appears to have exchanged private direct messages (DMs) on Twitter with more than one attractive woman"

And? I guess he should be sticking to certifiably ugly ones.  Maybe he could write to Ann Coulter.

Peter Ingemi, New York Post:  "Too Many Coincidences In Weiner’s Tale...those on the left trying to paint this as a conspiracy must deal with an array of odd elements that an increasingly tech-savvy public may find suspicious:"

Let's take these one at a time:

"* Not just the offending picture but most of the congressman’s pictures were removed from the site."

Of course, the "offending picture" was never on his website.  Even Republicans aren't stupid enough to post pictures of their penises on their websites.

"* Not only did the young lady’s Facebook and Twitter accounts disappear from the ’Net (she’s apparently since started a new Twitter account, and may go back on Facebook), but also her bylines on articles in her college paper."

She started a new Twitter account, because she was being attacked and threatened by right wingers on her old one!  Well, that proves...what?  Other than that right wingers are scum, which we already knew.

"* The congressman made it a point to tweet what time an East Coast interview would be shown in Seattle, where the young lady’s from."

He tweeted the time an interview he gave 3,000 miles away would be shown on TV!  That really proves he was up to something with this woman he never met.

"* Cordova reportedly wrote in the college paper in March about Twitter’s verifiable accounts giving access to celebrities."

Well, that's this guy's "proof" that something is up.  Pretty thin, huh?  They can't even be bothered to craft a good lie any more.  Well, they don't need to, I guess.  Their teabag followers will believe anything malicious, no matter how preposterous.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "CNN: FBI and Capitol Police ARE NOT Investigating Rep. Weiner’s “Hacking”… But He Did Lawyer Up "

Yeah, Jim.  He lawyered up to sue you guys for libel.  Get ready.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Bill O’Reilly told his viewers tonight that he will demand that the FBI offer a statement to his show tomorrow on the Weinergate “hacking” incident."

And who could possibly refuse a "demand" from Bill O'Reilly?  I mean, he is never interested in anything but the truth, right?  Otherwise, he wouldn't work for Fox News.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Florida Republican Rep. Cliff Stearns is demanding an investigation into cybersecurity issues raised by Weinergate, saying it is vital to “ensure our national security.

And as usual, Jim Hoft wins the prize:  Yes, this penis picture could threaten our national security.  God in heaven above, these people have no decency.  And no sense of humor.

Well, on with the rest:

Town Hall:  "CNN Poll Puts Obama Approval at 54%... Skeptical?"

Because it couldn't be true that people approve of Obama.  Not after all the money Republicans have spent to put an end to that.  This poll must be a gigantic deception.

Joel Mowbray, Town Hall:  "Obama’s Mideast Failures Spur Congressional Action...It has been two weeks since Arabs marched on Israel's borders on four sides"

Two weeks since Arabs protested.  And the result...well, nothing.  But it still proves that Obama is a failure.

Town Hall:  "SarahWatch: 'This isn't a campaign bus'

No, it's a parade of assholes- Sarah Palin and the press idiots that follow her around, helping her to bilk the American people.

Pam Geller, Atlas Shrugs:  ""Barack Obama's decision to play golf on Memorial Day was disrespectful and hardly presidential"

Golf.  What a sin.  Well, that just proves how much he deserves to be impeached.  Or else it proves how little Republicans have managed to really dig up to complain about.  Take your pick.

Ben Shapiro, Town Hall:  "Hollywood Hates Conservatives"

Right you are.  Say, weren't you in a movie about twenty years ago, Ben?  What happened to your career?  Not enough parts these days for people that can play pompous, evil jerks?

Ben Howe, Red State:  "Obama Seeks Final Death Blow to Auto Industry."

Like he did when he wanted to destroy General Motors and Chrysler?  Oh wait...that was you guys.  Obama saved those two American car companies.  Maybe he saved them just so he could deal them a death blow.  We know how much he likes death blows.  Oh wait, he's a great big wimp.  Wimps never like death blows.  Dear me, now I don't know what to think.

Confederate Yankee:  "You'd never know it occurred thanks to the US media that dutifully ignored the story, but Barack Obama used Memorial Day as an opportunity to squeeze in a round of golf"

Oh man, the golf thing again.  What a sin!  He played a round of golf over a three day weekend.  I guess he needs to work EVERY SINGLE DAY, to make up for the record number of vacation days taken by George W. Bush.

Henry Lamb, Renew America:  "Sustainable development or sustainable freedom"

Because apparently we can't be free unless we are destroying our granchildrens' lives.  What a world.

Dov Fischer, American Thinker:  "Stop It Already -- He's Not So Smart...The media would have us believe President Obama is a genius, with brains to spare. Really?"

Oh no, anyone can be the editor of the Harvard Law Review.  Sarah Palin did it...twice, right?

Nancy Morgan, American Thinker:  "Why The Elites Hate Sarah Palin"

Because if she becomes President, she"ll destroy the country in about six months?  That's my guess, in case you're really wondering.

News Cottage 3-  "Miami Beach Shooting: Memorial Day Weekend 2011 - South Beach A 'War Zone"

Funny, News Cottage jerk...I've been down here in Miami for two and a half months now. I'm looking at Miami Beach at the moment from my 45th story balcony on Biscayne Bay.  I haven't found anything in South Beach but a lot of sand, some good Cuban food on Lincoln Road, and a lot of really big Mojitos.

I guess I missed the war.  Maybe it happened in some other Miami Beach.

Sarah's Very Super Hyper Original Bus Tour

As we have heard, Sarah Palin's use of a mass transportation vehicle is a totally original way to campaign, never ever thought of before, which shows her creative genius as a politician.

This picture must have been taken after Sarah announced her plans.

Who You Gonna Blame?

This news, from CNBC:

"The UK economy is set to experience the slowest pick-up in consumer spending of any post-recession period since 1830, according to a Financial Times analysis of official forecasts."

It's all Obama's fault, of course. Somehow.
