Keith Again

Keith Olbermann, with the definitive statements about what is going on in the Comey-Chaffetz cabal to cheat the country out of its choice for President, proving once again why he was kicked out of the mainstream media.  Please watch this, because it is the best account I have seen showing how the timeline of this treachery utterly destroys Comey and Chaffetz, excuse for their behavior:

It's not Olbermann that they cannot stand, it is the truth.  And he is one of the handful of people in this country willing to accept the consequences of saying it out loud.

Just What Kind of a Moron Do We Have in the White House?

This utterly incredible piece of information from Talking Points Memo today:

"White House press secretary Josh Earnest on Monday said President Obama does not believe FBI Director James Comey was meddling in the presidential election by announcing Friday that his agency discovered new emails that may be related to its investigation of Hillary Clinton's private server.

In his daily press briefing, Earnest said Obama believes Comey “is a man of principle and good character,” and “doesn't believe that Director Comey is intentionally trying to influence the outcome of the election."

After all the vicious abuse, after all the betrayal and treachery he has had from Republicans over the last eight years, he still thinks this?  What the hell is the matter with him?

Comey's Preposterous Lie

Man, I am getting slow in my old age.  It took me two days to notice the fact which demonstrates that Comey's entire position regarding the "new" Hillary e-mails is nothing but a gigantic partisan lie.  Of course, nobody else seems to have noticed this either, but then, what else is new?

In Comey's revelation that he had sent a letter to Congress, he had this to say:

"This morning I sent a letter to Congress in connection with the Secretary Clinton email investigation. Yesterday, the investigative team briefed me on their recommendation with respect to seeking access to emails that have recently been found in an unrelated case. Because those emails appear to be pertinent to our investigation, I agreed that we should take appropriate steps to obtain and review them."

These e-mails were allegedly found on a laptop computer owned by Anthony Weiner, which had been used by his wife, Hillary adviser Huma Abedin.

Well, here's the thing.  I am not a computer expert, but my understanding is that, when you have a private e-mail address with, say, Google or Yahoo, the actual e-mails are not on your computer at all, but are rather on the servers of your internet service provider.  If this were not true, you would be unable to log in and read your e-mails on any computer but one, and we know this is not the case.  So, when Comey had access to Hillary's e-mails, he had access to all of them, regardless of what computer they were sent or received on.  Therefore, there cannot be "new" e-mails on a different computer, because the text of the e-mails is never on the computer to begin with.

Now, you are going to tell me that the crack cyber investigators at the FBI didn't know that?  And are you going to tell me that they would have not bothered to explain this to Comey himself, before he released this utterly dishonest letter?

Well, make up your own mind, or if you know that I am wrong, please explain things to me.

They Still Just Refuse To Get It

From the mainstream press to left wing blogs like Daily Kos, there seems to be a conspiracy to whitewash James Comey's treacherous behavior.  Here are some examples of the narrative that is being spun:

From the aforementioned Daily Kos, in a sad departure from its normal incisive commentary:

"There’s no doubt that Comey buckled to pressure in a way that is completely counter to how any law enforcement official, not just the director of the FBI, should operate. In order to guard against the possibility that he might be accused of being less than transparent at some point in the future, he cast aspersion on a candidate in the middle of a political campaign...What Comey did isn’t about protecting the election, protecting the evidence, or doing the “right thing.” It was entirely about making a show of “being impartial” by doing something that was massively, incredibly ‘partial.’

And how about a little from Frank Bruni, in the New York Times this morning- again, willful blindness from a normally reasonable columnist:

"Comey obviously felt that he was in a bind and clearly believed that by disclosing the emails as soon as possible — and not, say, delaying until he had some sense of what the F.B.I. was dealing with — he had the best chance of avoiding any possible charges of a cover-up later, and was acting with the cleanest conscience.

But his desire to be a Boy Scout may have eclipsed sound judgment here"

And a comment about this morning's Meet The Press, from Crooks and Liars:

"NBC's Meet The Press host Chuck Todd questioned FBI director James Comey's motives for informing Congress that they found emails without knowing what was in them and suggested, "Don't you wait to tell Congress of a new development after you know you have evidence?"

Todd asked this to NBC's Pete Williams, who has been covering the Friday morning blockbuster.

Williams said that Comey was worried if they didn't tell Congress it would play into Trump's "rigged election" meme, but Todd wasn't convinced."
You see, Comey is such a nice guy, a "boy scout," in fact, who was just struggling to do the right thing.
Is there no point at which these people will admit the truth?

Comey is a Republican, who has previously grossly misused his position to smear Hillary Clinton.

The Republicans saw they were headed toward a humiliating loss, and their hopes in Wikileaks actually turning up anything of value have pretty much flown out the window.  So, they needed to generate a fictitious Hillary scandal of their own.  And here comes the head of the FBI, the nation's highest law enforcement officer, throwing every shred of honesty and responsibility out the window to give it to them, without a bit of evidence to indicate that what he is talking about has a thing to do with Hillary.

This is not the act of a boy scout; it is the act of a corrupt partisan doing what he can to throw the Presidential election.  Comey is not an honest man caught between bad choices, he is a subversive crook.  That is to say, he is a standard, run of the mill Republican, just like all the rest of them, willing to do any kind of filthy deed to help his party steal power in this country.

We are witnessing a knife blow in the back of American democracy; a hail Mary treachery resulting from the fact that nothing else is working to elect the Republican candidate.  And unless some Democrats and some more visible left wing bloggers than me are willing to speak the truth, he will escape the consequences of his behavior, which should consist of removal from office, and a long prison term.

Saturday, October 29, 2016

As reported in the New Yorker, as well as various other media outlets:

"On  Friday, James Comey, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, acting independently of Attorney General Loretta Lynch, sent a letter to Congress saying that the F.B.I. had discovered e-mails that were potentially relevant to the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private server. Coming less than two weeks before the Presidential election, Comey’s decision to make public new evidence that may raise additional legal questions about Clinton was contrary to the views of the Attorney General, according to a well-informed Administration official. Lynch expressed her preference that Comey follow the department’s longstanding practice of not commenting on ongoing investigations, and not taking any action that could influence the outcome of an election, but he said that he felt compelled to do otherwise."

Is there a person on earth that could not have been aware of the way the Trump campaign and Congressional Republicans would use Comey's unsupported insinuations?

In a classic example of Democratic party gutlessness, the Clinton campaign failed to call out Comey last summer, when he first used his position to deliver a long, factless diatribe against Hillary; a totally impermissable attack on her delivered as part of a statement exonerating her of any real wrongdoing in her use of e-mails.  So, here he is again, back to take another drink from his polluted trough, this time in a blatant effort to destroy Hillary's campaign, less than two weeks before the election.

This man is one of the highest officials in the government, and he has used his position twice on behalf of a surrogate of a hostile foreign spy service.  This is the sort of behavior that should end up with a government employee being sent to prison.  He has no right, ever again, to participate in our national affairs, and I (hopelessly, I know) call on the President to demand his immediate resignation.

Update:  And here is an account of what is really going on here:

"FBI Director James Comey was reportedly warned against notifying Congress about a batch of newly discovered emails with potential ties to Hillary Clinton’s private server.

According to the Washington Post, before issuing the letter to Congress that sent shock waves through the Clinton campaign Friday, Comey consulted senior Justice Department officials who advised him of the DOJ’s position “that we don’t comment on an ongoing investigation. And we don’t take steps that will be viewed as influencing an election.”

“Director Comey understood our position,” said one official, who spoke to the Post on the condition of anonymity. “It was conveyed to the FBI, and Comey made an independent decision to alert the Hill. He is operating independently of the Justice Department. And he knows it.”

The practice of avoiding any activity that could be perceived as an attempt to influence the results of an election is a long-held Justice Department tradition that, the the New Yorker reported, became an official practice four years ago thanks to a memo from then-Attorney General Eric Holder."

Comey's claim that he just had to do it is a patent lie.  This was a vicious political attack on Hillary Clinton, against both Justice department tradition and specific policy.  This man has no right to stand at the head of our prime investigatory agency.  He should have been kicked out last summer, and there is absolutely zero excuse for not doing so now.

The Story So Far

Some guy owned a laptop, and there were E-MAILS ON THE LAPTOP!!!!  He didn't write any e-mails to Hillary, and Hillary didn't write any to him, but there were E-MAILS ON THE LAPTOP!!!!!

Well, that's what we know at this point.  The Democrats are screwed.Because that is a thousand times worse than selling yourself to the Russian dictator.

All You Need To Know About The Latest E-Mail Abomination

FBI Director Comey sent his letter announcing this bogus investigation to eight Republican House committee chairmen.  That makes it absolutely clear what he is up to.  This is a dagger at the heart of the American system of government, by a partisan hack, working with other Republican partisans, to seize control of the government, in what is effectively a putsch on behalf of a candidate who is clearly a grotesque danger to all of us.
I want to repeat a story told by Robert Reich.  It is a long excerpt from a post of his, for which I hope I can be forgiven:

"Yesterday I spoke with a former Republican member of Congress whom I’ve known for years.Me: What do you think of your party’s nominee for president? He: Trump is a maniac. He’s a clear and present danger to America.Me: Have you said publicly that you won’t vote for him?He (sheepishly): No.Me: Why not?He: I’m a coward.Me: What do you mean? He: I live in a state with a lot of Trump voters. Most Republican officials do.Me: But you’re a former official. You're not running for Congress again. What are you afraid of?He: I hate to admit it, but I’m afraid of them. Some of those Trumpistas are out of their fu*king minds.Me: You mean you’re afraid for your own physical safety? He: All it takes is one of them, you know.Me: Wait a minute. Isn’t this how dictators and fascists have come to power in other nations? Respected leaders don’t dare take stand. He: At least I’m no Giuliani or Gingrich or Pence. I’m not a Trump enabler.Me: I’ll give you that. He: Let me tell you something. Most current and former Republican members of Congress are exactly like me. I talk with them. They think Trump is deplorable. And they think Giuliani and Gingrich are almost as bad. But they’re not gonna speak out. Some don’t want to end their political careers. Most don’t want to risk their lives. The Trump crowd is just too dangerous. Trump has whipped them up into a g*ddamn frenzy."

There it is, folks- Fascism.  That's how it comes to a country- threats and intimidation toward anyone who dares to speak out.  And we are right on the edge of it now, regardless of whether or not Trump seizes the Presidency.  Writers like me have been trying to get people to see it coming for years, but all the "responsible," mainstream news sources have simply ignored, or actively collaborated with it.  There is absolutely no reason to believe that American democracy is not on its deathbed today.  One way or another, barring a miracle,  people who hate democracy and who hate the very idea of rights for anyone else, are going to take total control of the country within a few years, elections be damned.

October Surprise?

Well, it is now two weeks from election day, and we have entered what I always consider to be the real danger zone for a Republican "October surprise."  That would be when there is plenty of time to get a good lie out there, but not enough time for Democrats to show what a miserable smear it is.

And that brings me to Wikileaks.

I have some basic fears about Wikileaks.  First of all, that bastard Julian Assange has all day, every day, to sit around in that Ecuadorean Embassy.  Can you believe that he didn't spend his time going through those e-mail messages to save for last the ones that can be most easily twisted into a phony scandal?  Of course, maybe he has been too busy basking in his newfound glory to do that, but it's a chance that there is something in all those e-mails that will initially seem to prove something or other.

Second, we have already seen some "e-mails" released that are either forgeries, or James O'Keefe level distorting of what was really there.  I will be surprised if we do not see more of this in the next two weeks.

And finally, there is the very real possibility that the Russian spies who are behind all of this will simply release a pack of phony e-mails a few days before the election, which would fit with propaganda strategies they have used in an effort to rig elections in other countries.

We have to look at what is going on in the campaign:  After the massive hit Trump's polling took in the period from the second to the third debate, including the pussy video, etc.  the polls have been very consistent the last week or so, with Hillary holding a lead that has never been overcome this close to the election.  I just don't see that Trump has much of a shot without some sort of game-changing event, and right now this is the easiest one to arrange.

So, I'm waiting.  I hope I am wrong, but that would be relying on the Republicans' commitment to running a fair election, and we all know that is something that doesn't exist.

Wingnut Wrapup

A fine time to be checking out the wingnut world, given stories like this:

Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "Poll: Paul Ryan's Approval Collapses, More GOP Voters Say Trump Best Represents Their View Of The Party"

Something from Town Hall that is absolutely true!  Republicans, Trump is your ideal candidate.  Deal with it, you pack of racist, hate filled bastards.

Cortney O'Brien, Town Hall:  "Obama Pats Himself on Back for ACA...Then Suggests Improvements"

I like this because it reveals the Republicans' pathological inability to ever admit that anything they do is not perfect.  Obama can't be happy with 20 million new insured people, the elimination of the prior conditions scam, and lowering of the strain on other medical assistance programs, because he wants to make it better.  So, he's admitted that it failed.

Cortney O'Brien, Town Hall:  "Watchdog Group Aims to Keep Hillary Campaign Accountable"

Because it's Hillary's campaign that needs watching. By the way, the "watchdog group" is the Public Interest Legal Foundation, which is nothing but a right wing group dedicated to hatcheting anything which interferes with the power of its rich backers.  Surprise!

Derek Hunter, Town Hall:  "What’s being rigged now is the election.  I’ve been unambiguous in my criticism of Donald Trump, but he is absolutely correct the electoral system is rigged. He narrows it to being against him, but it would be rigged against any Republican who ran this year. It’s that rigged."

It's rigged every time the press tells the truth about what a miserable human being Trump is.  The press is in the basket for Hillary because they are not reporting the election as if an honorable, experienced public servant is not exactly as qualified to be President as a violent, racist, know-nothing bully.  Of course, in a normal election, that is exactly how things would be reported, because to the mainstream press, the Republican is always better than the Democrat.  Too bad for Republicans that this time they allowed their voters to pick a violent, racist, know-nothing bully who didn't know when to keep his God-damned mouth shut.

Jonah Goldberg, Town Hall:  "WikiLeaks emails will poison Hillary Clinton's presidency"

Guess he's given up on their main intent, which was to see that she was never elected.  Now, the Republicans will have to use them for four more years of subversion.  Too bad, by the way, that they have so far totally failed to uncover a thing to get excited about.  Oh well, at this point, Republican voters start salivating as soon as anyone mentions the word "e-mail," so their lack o content really doesn't hurt much.  Jonah continues:

"Fortunately, Donald Trump has the Lincolnesque qualities of political subtlety, magnanimity and foresight to quell any such misgivings."

I'd think that was sarcasm, but we are talking Jonah Goldberg here, so who knows?

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Analysis: Trump's Hedge on Accepting Election Results Boosts Hillary in Status Quo Debate"

No shit, Sherlock.

Streiff, Red State:  "Did Hillary Clinton Just Say She Was Okay With Going To War With Russia?"

No.  Boy, that is some kind of shameless lie there, Streiff.

Christian Otto, PJ Media:  "Madonna: Vote for Hillary and I'll (BLEEP) You"

I reported on this story in the last Wingnut Wrapup.  It's a sign of how pathetic the Republican attacks on Hillary are, that something like this has legs.

Joan Swirsky, Renew America:  "I have two words for Donald Trump--Harry Truman!"

I have two words for you, Joan:  Grow up.

Michael Bargo Jr, American Thinker:  "In the past week, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has been chastised by the media for being obsessed with the accusations of sexual impropriety alleged by several women.  There is a more subtle tactic here, a dirty tricks strategy Democrats love to perpetrate: the tactic of creating a controversy or chaotic situation, then blaming the victim – in this case, Donald Trump – for responding to it."

Trump assaults numerous women.  He is the victim.  Right.

Daniel Nussbaum, Breitbart:  "Wayne Newton: Never Seen Trump Treat Women ‘in a Derisive Way in Any Form’

Ha ha ha.  Wayne Newton.  Ha ha ha ha ha.  Just exactly how much time does Wayne Newton spend with Donald Trump?  And given that Wayne Newton is one of the creepiest people in recorded history, isn't this sort of like reporting, "Al Capone:  Bootleg liquor?  Never saw anything like that."

Ford Springer, Daily Caller:  "Trump's Plane Is Big League Compared To Clinton's"

Well, that will be a comfort to him on November 9th.

Daily Caller:  "Poll- Who won the third debate?"

I bet you can't wait to hear the results:

"In a poll run on the Drudge Report near the end of the debate, 76 percent of voters believed that Trump defeated Clinton handily, while 24 percent thought she had won."

Drudge.  Okay, then.  I guess Hillary is sunk.  And now a new MASSIVE e-mail scandal:

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Surprise: A New Email Scandal Lie Emerges From Hillary Testimony...Secretary Clinton states that she does not recall having communications with Bryan Pagliano concerning or relating to the management, preservation, deletion, or destruction of any emails in her email account..."

Throw her in prison because, in the middle of all her responsibilities as the Secretary of State, she claims she does not remember a conversation with her IT guy from four and a half years ago!  Who could believe that?  most of us fall asleep every night fondly replaying in our minds our latest interaction with the company IT guy.

And some delusional fantasy from the right:

Patterico, Red State:  "Ted Cruz Should Have Been The One Debating Hillary Clinton This would the debate have gone if Ted Cruz been on stage instead of Donald Trump?  Ted Cruz would have wiped the floor with Hillary Clinton."

Ha.  Ted Cruz is the most despised political figure in the entire country.  People hate him pretty much from the first time they see that ugly smirk on his face.  The general election would have reduced him to the status of a maggot in the eyes of the American people.  Hillary would have destroyed him without even trying.

And, still caught in denial?

Spengler, PJ Media:  "I'm still calling this election for Donald J. Trump. The polls are meaningless. Perceptions are morphing as rapidly as the new-model Terminator in the molten steel vat at the end of the movie. The election will be won and lost a dozen times between now and Election Day."

Gee, Spengler, two weeks and you can go back on your antipsychotic meds.

And speaking of delusional:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "TRUMP Drops Bomb at Al Smith Dinner, Says “Hillary Is So Corrupt… She’s Pretending Not to Hate Catholics” BRUTAL! Donald Trump Destroyed Hillary at the Alfred E. Smith Catholic Dinner in New York City tonight."

A great victory for Trump, except maybe the part where the audience of rich New York Catholics, which should be just about his most loyal constituency, booed Trump for saying that.  Jim didn't notice the booing, I guess.

Thomas Lifson, American Thinker:  "Wikileaks reveals that Hillary’s such a crooked politician that she doesn’t even stay bought"

I love this one.  See, the wingnuts allege that Hillary traded favors for a Clinton foundation donation, and when someone mentions that there never were any favors granted, that isn't proof that there was no quid pro quo, but rather that Hillary did make the corrupt deal, and then stiffed the person who bribed her.  Because, of course she did.  Heads I win, tails you lose, HITLERY!!

Tyler O'Neil, PJ Media:  "WikiLeaks Bombshell: Clinton Told Kaine He Was VP — in July of 2015"

Bombshell!  BOMBSHELL!!!!  Because, who knows?  But this is all they are getting out of their Wikileaks e-mails that are going to totally destroy Hillary, so I guess they have to run with it.

Aleister, Gateway Pundit:  "WATCH: At Trump Rally In PA, “WOMEN FOR TRUMP” SIGNS ARE EVERYWHERE!"

All professionally printed, obviously by the same people that print all the rest of Trump's signs.  That really proves a lot.  The fact that any women were willing to hold them, on the other hand, does prove something.  It proves that there are some white women in the country who are as stupid and vicious as the millions of white males out there who support Trump.

Laurie Roth, Renew America:  "Third Debate - Smooth -- smiling Hillary appeared paranoid -- arrogant -- conspiratorial"

You see what you want to see, I guess.  Because a smile always shows paranoia and arrogance.

Worl Net Daily:  "Leaked emails reveal smear campaign against bestselling author Jerome Corsi"

This one has to make you laugh.  Corsi, as you may remember, was the source of the Swift Boat lying smear campaign against John Kerry, which gave its name to smear campaigns: "swiftboating."  Now, he's complaining that he is being smeared, because some people want to challenge him on the lies he's told in the past.  Gee, I feel sorry for him.

Jonathan F. Keiler, American Thinker:  "Why Should Trump Accept the Election Results?  There is no reason for Donald Trump or any other citizen to "accept" a result in November that puts Obama's corrupt and criminal successor in power."

Apparently including the reason that she won the election.  It is, by the way, an example of rigging the election, in Mr. Keiler's view, for the members of the press corps to realize that putting Trump in the White House risks the political and economic stability of the entire world.  If they admit the truth, they are "rigging" the election for the only sane candidate, which is apparently a colossal crime.

Neil W. McCabe, Breitbart:  "Exclusive–Danney Williams: President Clinton Knows Truth, I Am His Son; Demands Paternity Test"

He already had one in 1999, which proved he is no relation to Bill Clinton.  What, is he going for two out of three here?

And another sign of how desperate they are:

Breitbart:  "Letters Behind Clinton Spell Out ‘Rig it’ in Debate"

This is sort of like people who see Jesus in their waffles.  I guess they are counting on cosmic coincidence to give them a win.  Well, at this point, it may be their best shot.

David Shestokas, Daily Caller:  "Criticizing Trump For Being Honest About Accepting Election Results...Trump answered Chris Wallace’s question honestly when professional politicians would have lied."

See, no one has a right to criticize Hitler for killing Jews, because he was honest about his intentions to do so, well in advance of the fact.  It makes it okay to be an evil monster, if you are just "honest" about it.

David Krayden, Daily Caller:  "DNC Chair Donna Brazile Now Symbolizes Democratic Corruption"

This week.  Last week, when hardly anyone had ever heard of Donna Brazile, it was...well, who remembers?   And next week it will be...who knows?  Someone else most people have never heard of.  But it's always someone.  Of course, they need a new "symbol" of Democratic corruption every week, because it rarely takes people more than two or three days to realize that their claims are bullshit.  Of course, when the press points that out, it just proves they are in the tank for Hillary.

American Updater:  "Huge Revelation From WikiLeaks!! “There Is No US Election”

Oh God, here we go again.  I know this is going to end in talk about lizard people from outer space.  Anyway, I guess this is the ultimate denial of reality from a right winger who sees what is happening to his beloved would-be dictator.

American Updater:  "Wow! Catholics Forbidden From Voting For Hillary By Former Pope!!"

Former Pope?  Would that be the one who snuck out of the back door of the Vatican one step ahead of being personally charged in the Church's child rape scandals?  He's had the sense to keep his mouth shut since then.  I'd suggest he get back to that practice before the rest of us decide to root around some more into what he was really doing while all the guy around him were molesting kids.

And, in the need to go out on a real burst of insanity?

American Reviewer BREAKING NEWS!  "FBI Classifies President OBAMA As A DOMESTIC TERRORIST"

Buying that one?  No?  I didn't think so.

Derek Hunter, Town Hall:  "Why I Now Feel Compelled To Vote For Trump"

Because if you don't, you aren't going to get paid any more for lying.  I mean, isn't that what the deal is with virtually everyone who ends up being in Wingnut Wrapup?  It sure isn't because you are trying to do something good with your life.

Professional Grade Not Getting It

Liberal style, this time dealing with Evangelicals and their adherence to Donald Trump.

Two samples today.  The first is from Susan M. Shaw is Professor of Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at Oregon State University, from that reliable source of weak Liberalism, the Huffington Post:

"Even as evangelicals are now divided over the Republican presidential nominee, a handful of leaders and the majority of white evangelical voters still support Donald Trump. Surprisingly, many of them have abandoned the rhetoric of morals and values...Somehow, these conservative Christian leaders and voters still attempt to couch that maneuver in meaningful Christian theological and ethical language.

"As a former evangelical...I hope this division can lead to some much-needed soul-searching among evangelicals about who they are and what they should be doing in the world to live the good news they proclaim."

Somehow, they " attempt to couch that maneuver" in their old moralistic blabber.

The other reading  for today comes from the ever-pathetic NPR:

"Quick: do you think politicians can still do their jobs if they've screwed up in their personal lives?

Many Americans answer this question differently now than they would have five years ago. And for white evangelical Protestants, it's especially likely their opinion has changed.

That's what a new PRRI/Brookings poll says. In 2011, 30 percent of white evangelicals said that "an elected official who commits an immoral act in their personal life can still behave ethically and fulfill their duties in their public and professional life." Now, 72 percent say so — a far bigger swing than other religious groups the poll studied.

It's just one poll, but it does suggest a sizable shift in how Americans of several religious stripes think about the connection between morality and politics."

Still pretending that Evangelical Christianity is some sort of "religious stripe."  Still pretending that any Evangelicals care about who they are, or about what they should be doing in the world, or to whom they give their allegiance.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who really looks at things with open eyes can see that Evangelical Christianity is nothing but a sham religion, filled with people who don't give a damn about right and wrong, but still want to wrap themselves in the mantle of God.  These people care no more about the morality of their leaders than they do about their own adherence to the words of Christ; they care about nothing but slaking their greed and stoking their own hatred.  There is not a minute when they can be counted on to do the right thing.  Their phony religion must be unmasked for the malicious farce it is, and all of the temporizing with this obvious fact, as found in the two examples above, only prolongs the time until we reckon with this miserable phenomenon, and end its ability to work its evil.

Enough.  If there are decent, honorable religions in this world, Evangelical Christianity is not one of them.  It is a vicious force in the world today, and the sooner we cease having any doubts about that fact, the sooner we can go about creating a world in which it no longer works constantly to turn our nation toward evil.

Curt Schilling Hits It Out of the Park

Oops!  the ball hit the scoreboard and bounced right back in his face.

Famous ex-baseball pitcher and long time white supremacist and Jew hater Curt Schilling, and (of course) big Donald Trump supporter had a rally in the city of Boston (where he played baseball) this weekend, and the army of Trump supporters turned out en masse to show their readiness to take any action necessary to see to it that Hillary does not get anywhere near the White House:

Sorry! Not quite the attendance Curt was expecting.  In fact, when you subtract the press, it turns out that he attracted a grand total of 12 people.  Yup, 12.

Long time readers of my blog will know that I have a long history of reporting on these disastrous rallies by right wingers.  The normal pattern is for the press to abet them in promoting their marches, and then totally ignore the actual result, furthering the notion that there really is a major militant movement on the right in this country.  Here's one more of them, and it is a lesson to anyone that thinks that, when Trump presumably loses the election, his people are going to grab their guns, rise up and start shooting to "take their country back."  It's one thing to answer a poll in favor of Trump, or even go to one of his circuses rallies, in hopes of a cheap thrill, but quite another thing to expect any real action from them.  They are mostly nothing but pathetic saps with big mouths, who have been drained of any hope of a decent life by the very sort of people that Trump perfectly personifies, and are too lazy to try to figure out what really happened to them, thereby making themselves endless victims.  Well, here they are- all 12 of them in Boston, anyway.

See you at the revolution, in two weeks, guys.

Sean Hannity On What It Takes to be Great

Hannity the other day:

“I listened to hours and hours of his speeches. He’s mesmerizing. He’s an unbelievable orator,” Hannity continued. "Then he adds the racism and the anti-Semitism. If you took that away, this guy could have been such a powerful force in his life"

Hannity was talking about his new BFF, Louis Farrakhan.

And here, at first I thought he might have been talking about someone else.

Just in case you have forgotten how close these "respectable" Conservative spokesmen really are to being nothing but out and out Nazis.

The Man Who Would Be Commander In Chief Shows His Abysmal Ignorance

Pretty much lost in all of the other disgusting things Trump has had to say the last few days is his rooting for the United States and our allies to lose in Mosul, in order to provide him with a campaign talking point.

As the New York Times reported:

"WASHINGTON — In Wednesday night’s debate, Donald J. Trump excoriated the American-backed Iraqi military offensive to recapture Mosul from the Islamic State, saying it had forfeited “the element of surprise” and allowed militant leaders to slip away."

Or as Trump himself tweeted soon afterwards:

"The attack on Mosul is turning out to be a total disaster. We gave them months of notice. U.S. is looking so dumb. VOTE TRUMP and WIN AGAIN!"

Besides the obvious subversion, and borderline treason*, involved in a Presidential candidate virtually rooting for a humiliating loss for our troops, these remarks demonstrate his profound ignorance of military strategy, and the situation on the ground in Mosul.

First, let's just take a look at the terrain around the city.  Here are a couple of pictures taken along the major routes into and out of Mosul:
Approaching Mosul from the Northwest

Approaching Mosul from the East

I suggest that Trump explain to us exactly where an army could be hidden in this sort of terrain.

Second, Trump does not seem to give a damn that Mosul's population hit a high in 2004 of 1.8 million people, and even today there are probably about 1.3 million innocent civilians living there.  Trump apparently is perfectly happy to see them slaughtered by the tens of thousands, in order to kill some of the thirty thousand or so ISIS troops there.  A surprise attack would obviously lead to massive civilian casualties, but as these people are not white, Trump and his followers just don't care.  The United States, on the other hand, is giving them all the chance it can to leave or provide in whatever way they can for their own security.

And finally, there is no kind of fighting that takes a greater toll on the attacking army than urban warfare.  We gave ISIS troops a chance to flee the city?  You bet we did- there is nothing that will make them easier to defeat than getting them out in the sort of open terrain you can see above.

So, there you have it.  Trump is not only grotesquely ignorant of military tactics, but he is also criminally indifferent to civilians caught in the way of his army- virtually the complete opposite of Hillary.  This man is a monster, and a potential war criminal of the worst kind.

*Unlike Republicans, I only use this term in its strict Constitutional meaning.  In my opinion, working to undermine the U.S. military and our allies with the American people, comes perilously close to "giving aid and comfort to the enemy."  Anyone want to argue with that?

Good Senate News

Take a look at this chart, from 538, which shows the odds of the Democrats taking back the Senate:
And note that the Democrats have been above 50% essentially since August.  If Democrats just get out and vote, we should be in good shape here.

More Wikileaks e-mails

And I guess they really have her this time.  Here's the headline from Fox News:

"WikiLeaks Clinton Email Dump Reveals Staff Member's Daughter Poking Fun at Wiping Server"

That's what they have on her!  Staff member's daughter!  Poking fun!  Man, Hillary is done for now!

Can this get any more pathetic?

The Miracles Never Stop This Year

The Tribe is In the Series!

And now, this astounding news, just in!  Can it be possibly true?  After all these years misidentifying this image, it now appears that it is actually a drawing of Scottie Pippen!
I mean, am I right, or what?

Green Eagle's California Proposition Guide

This post will be of marginal interest to anyone that does not live in California, but the situation with propositions in California is so confusing this year- the California State voter guide runs to over 200 pages- that I thought I would try to sort some of this out.

I want to first talk about the way I customarily evaluate these propositions.  Anyone who has watched the metastasis of the process of putting propositions on the ballot over recent decades knows that many of them are deceptively written by corporate shills, and it is almost impossible to figure out what they are really about.  So, I have found that the most reliable guide to whether these propositions are good or bad is to look at the statements in the voter guide for and against the propositions, and see who is advocating and opposing them.  In the great majority of cases, I have found, you need look no farther to make your decision.  For example, if the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association is for a proposition, you can be sure it is a corporate missile aimed right at the population of California.  So, in analyzing these propositions, I will often not have to go farther than that.

Well, let's get to work:

Proposition 51: A proposition to authorize funding for construction and modernization of schools and community colleges.

For:  PTA, Retired Teachers Association, Community College League of California

Against: California Taxpayer Action Network, whatever that is.  I could find no information online about where they get their money, but the name should be clue enough about who they are.

Verdict YES on Proposition 51

Proposition 52:  Extends an existing statute that imposes fees on hospitals to fund Med-Cal services.

For:  California Hospital Association, California Association of Nurse Practitioners, California Senior Advocacy League

Against:  Three people with no stated affiliation.

Verdict:  It's not like, say, the California Hospital Association, would be above promoting a proposition out of mere self- interest, but it is interesting that no known organization was willing to speak out against the measure.  Verdict: A qualified YES on Proposition 52, based on who is for or against it.

Proposition 53:  Requires Statewide voter approval before any bond issue over $2 billion can be approved.

I was already suspicious of this one, as it would make it extremely difficult for the State government to meet its obligations- face it, $2 billion is just not that much money in a State with over 40 million people.

For:  Dino Cortopassi, described as a "retired farmer" in the voters' handbook, but actually a massively wealthy real estate investor who is the sole funder of this measure, a retired sheriff, and (we've been waiting for it) the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers' Association

Against: California Professional Firefighters, Association of California Water Agencies, California Office of Emergency Services

The intent of this proposition is essentially to destroy Jerry Brown's high speed rail initiative, large scale water allocation projects and anything else that costs the government real money.  Verdict:  NO on proposition 53.

Proposition 54:  Places some limits on the ability of the legislature to pass bills, particularly imposing a 72 hour period between introduction and passage of bills, to allow for public input.

For:  League of Women Voters, California Planning and Conservation League, California Chamber of Commerce

Against:  Californians for an Effective Legislature

This one is a little complicated, and requires a little more knowledge about what is going on here.  This proposition was solely financed by one billionaire, Charles Munger.  His intent with the 72 hour waiting period is not really to give citizens access, but to allow him and his fellow rich guys to gin up a publicity campaign against anything they don't want passed.  I'm troubled with the support of the League of Women Voters here, but the Chamber of Commerce being involved is almost an immediate red flag.

Please note that a number of other propositions have arguments from the "California Senior Advocates League."  This is a right wing front group financed by the aforementioned Charles Munger, and a number of malicious corporate front groups.

Verdict:  NO on Proposition 54

Proposition 55:  Extends a tax increase on those earning over $250,000 a year, primarily to fund schools.

For: California State PTA, Childrens' Defense Fund, California State Superintendant of Public Instruction

Against:  (Here they come again)  the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, National Federation of Independent Businesses.

Verdict:  A strong YES on Proposition 55, based solely on who is for and against this.

Proposition 56:  Increased cigarette tax

For:  American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, American Heart Association

Against:  Former director of California State Board of Education, former director of maternal health, L.A. county department of health, Association of Orange County Ceputy Sheriffs.

A confession:  I saw my father, a smoker, die of cancer when I was a teenager, and as far as I am concerned, the "tax" on sales of cigarettes should be about twenty years in prison.

Verdict:  What do you think?  A strong YES on Proposition 56.

Proposition 57:  Allows parole for nonviolent felons and makes some other modifications in the draconian sentencing rules that have burdened the State since Reagan was our governor.

For:  Jerry Brown, Chief Probation Officers of California

Against:  San Francisco Police Officers' Association, Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, California District Attorneys Association

I'm not about to allow police and prosecutors to give themselves job security by throwing more people in jail.  Verdict: A strong YES on Proposition 57.

Proposition 58:  Deals with English proficiency in public schools

For:  California Federation of Teachers, California School Boards Association, California Language Teachers' Association

Against:  Ron Unz, "English for the Children," Oceanside Unified School District

An all star list for, and Ron Unz, one of the most belligerent right wing figures in California political history; and the school district of a very right wing California city against.  I was initially suspicious of this measure, as these sort of english-promoting measures have so often been covers for jingoistic nationalism, but here is a real case to show how important it is to know who is supporting and attacking the proposition.

Verdict:  a strong YES on Proposition 58.

Proposition 59:  Deals with an attempt to have the California government take a stand on repealing Citizens' United

I'm not even bothering with the for and against arguments for this one.  Any enemy of Citizens' United is a friend of mine.

Verdict: YES on Proposition 59

Proposition 60:  Requires condom usage for adult film actors

Hold it- I really don't care how anyone votes on this one.  Sorry.

Proposition 61:  Requires the State to buy prescription drugs at the lowest price

For:  California Nursing Association/National Nurses Organization, AARP California, Art Torres, retired chair of the California Democratic Party

Against:  Vererans of Foreign Wars, Latino Diabetes Association, California Association of Rural Health Clinics

Honestly, I don't know who got promised what to have these three groups sign up against this bill. Verdict: A clear YES on Proposition 61.

Proposition 62:  Repeals the death penalty in California

For:  A former long-time California death row warden, and the author of California's current death penalty law

Against:  DA of San Bernardino County, Peace Officers Research Association of California, Marc Klaas, father of famous murder victim Polly Klaas.

Just to be clear, the  "Peace Officers Research Association of California" is not a research organization at all, but a lobbying outfit.  Again, I have to say that, after all I have seen in my life, I believe that certain acts do deserve the death penalty, but it is also clear to me that there are now over 700 death row inmates in California, with only 13 having been executed in the last 40 years.  I think we need to face the fact that it is unlikely that any of the rest are going to be executed, and divest ourself of the monstrous cost of keeping them on death row.  Verdict, a qualified YES on Proposition 62.

Proposition 63:  Requires background checks to purchase ammunition.  Prohibits large-capacity magazines

For:  Gavin Newsom, Lieutenant Governor, Dianne Feinstein, Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence

Against:  California State Sheriffs Association, California Reserve Peace Officers Association, Coalition for Civil Liberties

The "Coalition for Civil Liberties" appears to be a front group for the NRA.  Why those other two groups want more armed people out there with the ability to kill them is anyone's guess.  Verdict:  In this crazy era, there is nothing we can do to tamp down gun violence but nibble around the edges of gun proliferation.  Still, it's something.  Verdict: a strong YES on Proposition 63.

Proposition 64:  Marijuana Legalization

Whoopee!  Who Cares who is for it or aganst it!

Verdict:  a strong YES on Proposition 64.

Proposition 65:  Requires money collected by stores for carryout bags to be used for environmental purposes, and not to just increase their profits.

For:  California Taxpayer Protection Committee, California Senior Advocates League

Against:  Californians Against Waste

Here's one where the groups for and against it don't seem to tell us much, except the California Senior Advocates League, about which see the comment above on proposition 54.  So I have to rely on that dreaded criterion, my own judgment, which tells me that $300 million in the hands of environmentalists is a much better thing than $300 million more in the pockets of supermarket chains.  Verdict:  YES on Proposition 65

Proposition 66:  Changes appeal process for death penalty cases, exempts prison officials from regulations regarding execution methods.

For:  Contra Costa Deputy Sheriffs Association, one random prosecutor and one random family member of a murder victim

Against:  California Death Row Warden- 1999-2004, Antonio Villaraigosa, an innocent man sentenced to death.

Hopefully, Proposition 62 will pass and all of this will be moot, but in any case, I will vote against this useless and vindictive measure.  Verdict: NO on Proposition 66.

Proposition 67:  Ban on single-use plastic bags

For:  Monterey Bay Aquarium, California Ocean Protection Council, California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery

Against:  California Manufacturers & Technology Association, California Taxpayer Protection Committee, California Senior Advocates League

A clear example of taking some small measure to protect the environment versus pure corporate greed.  Verdict:  A strong YES on Proposition 67.

And there you go.  Not much value if you are not from California, and perhaps not if you are from here, but this is a particularly difficult election for propositions, and I hope it helps someone beyond me and my own family in sorting it all out.

Wingnut Wrapup

Oh man, let's just start off with this one:

World Politicus:  "Supreme Court Justice John Roberts Signs Off On Obama’s Removal For Treason… His Career Is Over...According to recent reports, Chief Justice John Roberts might have signed off on Interpol to have Obama impeached on the grounds of multiple counts of treason."

Reports by whom?  Certainly no one that knows a thing about American law.  First of all, of course, "Interpol" cannot have Obama removed for treason; only Congress can do that.  Second, Roberts cannot "sign off" on any criminal prosecution.  As Chief Justice, it is none of his business unless the person is convicted and their conviction is appealed to the Supreme  Court, which cannot in any event ever happen to a sitting President.  Third, do you think a Chief Justice would really be stupid enough to announce this effective coup attempt in public?  Man, this is a new height in Republican idiocy.

Except for maybe this, the worst attempt to gin up a Hillary scandal in the whole election:

World Net Daily:  "Hillary bus caught illegally dumping poop in street"

Yup, that's a real story at World Net Daily, now being picked up by wingnut sites around the country.  Just the ticket to bring the whole Hillary campaign down.  And if that doesn't work, how about this?

Marisa Schultz, New York Post:  "Hillary Clinton accused of stealing furniture from the State Department"

God, that's too pathetic to even comment on.

Michael Brown, Town Hall:  "Conservative Christians, Be Assured That President Hillary Clinton Will Declare War On You"

Bullshit.  Now they know they are losing so bad that they have to drive their supporters into a blind panic to get them to vote for Trump.  If Hillary's bus pooping in the street doesn't do the trick.

Cortney O'Brien:  "Why Giuliani Doesn't Believe Trump Accuser Who Claims to Have Been Assaulted in First Class"

Wrong question, Cortney.  The question should be "Why, when Rudy knows damed well that the accusations are true, is he going around in public, lying about them?"  -The answer:  He is a corrupt bastard without a shred of human decency, who is willing to collaborate with any sort of low life scum if it will keep him on the news shows.

Dan Spencer, Town Hall:  "Pence: Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky Scandal ‘The Most Appalling Behavior’ of Any President"

How about when George W. Bush started a war of aggression in an innocent country, that resulted in the deaths of a million innocent civilians?  I guess that is not as bad as a Democrat getting a blow job.

Tyler O,Neil, PJ Media:  "Vanderbilt Professor: Hillary Clinton is Proof 'Satanism is on the Rise'"

They're really losing it now.

"I would argue that Satanism itself is on the rise in the country, and I think that that's well documented," Swain declared. She argued that the deceptive tactics associated with Lucifer have infiltrated the country's political discourse, and traced that back to the leftist professor Saul Alinsky...Swain, a black woman who grew up in poverty, dropped out of college to become a single mother, but pulled herself up to become a college professor, went on to attack the "Black Lives Matter" movement."

I hope you are getting paid damed well to say things like this, lady, because if your religion turns out to be true, you are headed to a bad place after judgment day.  And by the way, Vanderbilt University, it is a mark of eternal shame on you that this woman is allowed to teach at your school.  This is not free speech, it is a clear sign of mental disability.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "What Media Won’t Tell You: ‘How to Vote Trump’ Is Crushing “How to Vote Hillary’ on Google"

More evidence of why he's called the Stupidest Man On The Internet.  Jim, Hillary's voters already know how to vote, because they have been good citizens for a long time.  The assholes that look up "how to vote Trump" probably have to start their day by googling "how to tie your shoes."

And let's keep going with Jim, while he is on a roll:

"The Elites Have NO IDEA How Angry People Really Are"

We do, however, have a pretty good idea how stupid and crazy they are.  And let's just let Jim be the spokesman for this nonsense:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "WIKILEAKS Releases Podesta Emails Part #9 on Sunday Morning – More Hillary Lies"

Wikileaks...e-mails...Podesta.  Is there anyone other than Trump idiots that even pays attention to this any more?  Wikileaks is now releasing these e-mails by the thousands, and there is nothing remotely incriminating in any of them.  So just keep it up.  There's an old Yiddish saying about "Machen Gelt von Dreck."  Sorry, guys- this time around it's all dreck and no gelt.

David R. Usher, American Thinker:  "Donald Trump is leading America's third war of Independence (the first two being in 1776 and the War of 1812)."

Talk about delusions of grandeur.

"Trump's campaign touched the taproot of the Electorate. Most Americans cannot quite put a finger on the reason..."

Well, we know the reason:  there are millions of really stupid, gullible, hate and greed-filled people out there, who are so utterly clueless that they think that electing a billionaire is the way to protect themselves from the "establishment."

Cliff Kincaid, Renew America:  "I don't know how anyone can demean women more than she has demeaned women, or present women as nothing more than pieces of meat. That's the hypocrisy we're dealing with here."

But the Clinton campaign is moving forward as the solemn protector of women's rights."

How about that for a big lie?  Tough to top that.

Linda Kimball, Renew America:  "Progressive leftism: the serpent's blood-soaked ideology of deception, malice, and madness"

Well, don't hold back, girl.  Tell us how you really feel.  Anyway, I tried to read more of this article- one of the most turgid, irrational things I have ever seen.  Don't try it yourself, unless you are either a professional or have a large supply of valium at hand.

Newsmax:  "Poll: Clinton Heavily Favored to Win Electoral College"

I.e. to be elected President.  But they can't bring themselves to say that.

Eddie Scarry, Washington Examiner:  "Donald Trump has all but disappeared from the TV news sets and press conference stages he once seemed all too eager to dominate earlier in the election, and is making it clear to the thousands of people who attend his rallies that the press is now his enemy."

No, Eddie, what it is making clear is that Trump finally realizes that the more the public sees him, the more they hate him.

Larry Klayman, World Net Daily:  "On the precipice of total Clinton tyranny!"

Ha ha.  Larry Klayman.  Ha ha.

Clarice Feldman, American Thinker:  "Man the Vote: It’s the Least You Can Do for Your Country...If only men voted, Trump would already have won."

Really? You mean that we could just call the election off, throw the Obamas into the street and put Trump in the White House? That's democracy for you.  And by the way, Clarice, if you think your fellow women and yourself shouldn't be allowed to vote, then you shouldn't be allowed to shoot your big fat ugly mouth off about anything political.  Get back in the kitchen where you belong, and do the dishes.

Stewart Lawrence, Daily Caller:  "Under Siege, Trump Needs To Call On Melania.  Now is the time when her special insight and reassurance are most needed."

"Special Insight."  Into what, I wonder?  how to parlay your looks into a marriage with a rich scum?

Philip Stuckey, Daily Caller:  "Gingrich: Trump Would Win If It Weren't For The Media"

I.e. if all people had to go on were Republican lies and smears.

Why not?

Boy, you'd have to explain to me why she'd want it before I believe that one.

And let's all welcome a new visitor to Wingnut Wrapup:

American Reviewer:  "George Soros RIGGED Voting Machines in These 16 STATES! Is YOUR STATE On The List??"

Man, that Soros guy must be some kind of mechanic to have done that all by himself.

American Reviewer:  "BREAKING: Julian Assange of WIKILEAKS Was Just KILLED OFF … Please Pray"

Why pray if he's already dead?  P.S.- he's not. He just had his twitter feed cut off.  I know this is the cyber age, but still, cutting off your twitter feed doesn't really kill you.  Bet you are surprised to hear that.

"The details surrounding the situation are scarce"

You betcha they are.  So scarce that they don't exist.  Not scarce enough, however, to prevent them from asking:

"Do you think Hillary Clinton is behind this??"

Or, as long as we are reporting utterly preposterous claims, how about this one?

Well, since he didn't do any such thing, no sense wasting time on their other false claims.  So, let's just go out on this one:

American Reviewer:  "SH0CKING VIDEO SURFACES of BARACK OBAMA From 1995 Revealing WHO HE REALLY IS"

A black man.  That is what the video reveals, clearly and for anyone to see.  He's really a black man.  Shocking!  If only more Americans had known this in 2008, we never would have to have suffered through eight years of job growth, tripling of the Dow, adding 20 million people to the rolls of the insured, avoiding three trillion dollar foreign aggressions, etc.

And is there anyone on earth that would believe this one?

Christine Rousselle, Town Hall:  "After First Posing Nude, Madonna Now Offering Sexual Favors For Voting For Hillary"

Sounds more like a Trump tactic to me.  Melania, I hope you're rested up.  Time to earn your keep.

And this news just in:

Gateway Pundit:  "ACTUARIAL REVIEW: Analysis of Recent Polls Shows Trump Win and Possible Landslide"

In other news from the same world:  Witcher Geralt of Rivia defeats the master vampire Detlaf to restore peace!

P.S.- Geralt is voting for Hillary.
Bruce Walker, American Thinker:  "What if There Were a National Conservative Party?"

That's an easy question to answer, because it has been tried.  In Germany, in the 1930's and 1940's.

And that's all I can take.  Believe me, it goes on and on at this point.

The Shape of Things To Come

For the next few weeks, anyway.

First of all, what are we going to see from Trump at the debate tomorrow?  He is now farther behind in the polls than any winning candidate has ever been since the dawn of modern polling.  That is only about 12 Presidential elections ago, so it may not be an ironclad guarantee that he will lose on November 8th, but it sure as hell isn't good news for Republicans.

He has two chances tomorrow night: either try to play it really cool and count on the press and the short memory of the American people to forget his disasters of the last couple of weeks, and let him try to climb back into the race; or go for the hail Mary pass and be as vicious and tell as many lies as he can in ninety minutes.  I believe a rational person would go for the first choice, and at least go down with some shred of intact dignity, but that is not Donald Trump.  We've seen Hillary get to him many times, with just a few well-placed sentences, and I think that is what she has on tap for him tomorrow.  I see virtually no chance that he can resist the temptation, and in fact there is a good possibility that we may see a colossal explosion from him, the likes of which we have never encountered in an election before.  And let's face it- at this point, the people that are going to tune into the debate tomorrow have no hope of seeing a real discussion of issues, and are (including myself) far more like people who watch car races solely to see the wrecks.

And after the debate?  At this point, Trump needs a spectacular win tomorrow to even begin to erode Hillary's lead, and she has certainly demonstrated her ability to deny that to him.  Then, I am afraid, Trump's undermining of what is left of our democratic process will begin in earnest, with the open incitement of violent rebellion.  It will be a grand finale to the greatest electoral fireworks display in living memory.  All we have to worry about then is whether he can actually lead any number of his followers to carry out his treasonous program.  So, here is what I have to say about that.

As readers of my blog may have noticed, I have followed groups that have tried to incite violent right wing rebellion against this country fairly closely the last couple of decades.  And in every case, here is what has happened:  First, the use of the media, mainly Fox News and the right wing websites I monitor, to massively publicize events at which the rebellion is to start, milking every penny from the rubes they can, and then the event, which every single time is a colossal failure, lucky to attract one or two percent of the projected attendees, which humiliation is then utterly ignored by both the right wing and mainstream press, lest it undermine their claims about the huge number of people out there who are supposedly ready to actually fight the government, and then the process starts all over again.

One of these days, however, this incitement is bound to reach a sort of critical mass, at which point some number of the militia loons, sovereign citizens, Aryan supremacists, Confederate diehards, Evangelicals, etc. will actually start pulling triggers, as perhaps almost happened at the Bundy ranch standoff.  I will categorically state that, based on my long observation of such things, the threat to the nation as a whole will be absolutely zero, but the ugliness could be immense, and a number of innocent people may be destroyed in the process.  Sad to say, rather than taking the chance to crush this sort of thing out of existence for good, by imprisoning all of the leaders and active participants for treason, the government is far more likely to take a conciliatory position, letting the vast majority of these terrorists off, and guaranteeing that the whole process will immediately start again.

And with there being no likelihood that the Republican party will learn a thing from what it has wrought, things will only get worse and worse as time goes on.  At some point, domestic fascists and racists have to be treated the same way we have treated those from other countries that have attacked us, or we are all going to wake up one day in a dictatorship.

Green Eagle's Investment Guide

Green Eagle is recommending that, if you want to make a quick killing in the stock market, you invest in companies that manufacture pitchforks.  I hear there is going to be a huge demand for them after November 8th.

A Really Important History Lesson

And another reason why they had to force this guy out of the mainstream press.  Please take the time to watch this, as it is massively instructive about where our country is today:

McCain Spills The Beans

The apparently senile John McCain let the cat out of the bag today, about Republicans' intentions regarding the Supreme Court if Hillary is elected President:

“I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up,” McCain told Philadelphia radio host Dom Giordano. “I promise you. This is where we need the majority"

Of course, when he realized what he had said, he tried to walk it back, but really, there is nothing unclear about "we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up"

So much for the pretense, which any rational person knew was a lie, about leaving the choice of the next Supreme Court Justice to "the next President."  That only applied, as McCain verified, if the next President turned out to be a Republican, because this is not about some ludicrous notion of popular opinion, it was always about cramming another right wing, corrupt monster like Antonin Scalia down our throats, so the Republicans' rich backers could continue to savage the country to sate their own greed.

Do not expect a thing to be any different than what McCain describes.  If they have a majority in the Senate, Hillary can sit year after year, not seeing a Supreme Court Justice of her choice approved, regardless of the clear Constitutional duty of the Senate.  And if they are a seat or two short of a majority, they will use filibusters and every dirty trick on earth to see that the same thing happens.

And please remember, this treacherous behavior will not be confined to this issue. When Obama was elected and the Republicans decided to do everything they could to sabotage him, the decision was taken in secret, and was at least not made until after the election.  This time around, they don't give a damn who knows what they are up to.  They have not learned a single positive lesson from what happened with Obama.  This time around, they will be twice as intransigent, and twice as committed to destroying the government's ability to function.

This party is mad.  And like a mad dog it needs to be put down.  Maybe some halfway sane Conservative party would take its place, and maybe it will just fracture into a number of largely regional parties that stand for little more than hatred and violence.  Either way, the time has come when the dreaded one-party rule, if that party is the Democratic one, is manifestly superior to allowing the Republicans to have a voice in the running of our country.  Of course, I have no more faith in Hillary than I did in Barack to actually plunge the stake in and finally see the end of this curse, so we are undoubtedly doomed to at least eight more years of Republicans' eating away at the United States from within, punctuated every couple of years by a massively funded, vicious electoral circus like that which we have had to endure for the last year.

When Does It Stop Being Just Fascism, and Become Nazism?

I think when your candidate starts railing about his opponent being in league with "international bankers," you are getting pretty damned close.

They're Back to Flacking for Trump

I got up this morning to make a pot of chili for a pot-luck party today, and while I was cooking I turned the TV on.  It was on MSNBC.  I watched for an hour or an hour or a half, and the entire time, what I saw was virtually unending footage of Trump telling his lies and smears against Hillary his accusers, and the whole fantasy conspiracy to defeat him in a rigged election, alternated with an interview of a Southern Baptist leader who spent his five or ten minutes of uninterrupted time smearing Hillary, and trying to see that even people that won't vote for Trump will not vote for Hillary either.  Trump was broadcast over and over again saying what he says, with nothing but the most anemic pushback, and often no pushback at all, from the hosts.  No sign of Hillary or any of her spokesmen the entire time.

Now, let me explain this to anyone who doesn't get it yet.  In the last few weeks, the press has pulled back from Trump.  Is that because the sociopathic capitalists who own the mainstream media in this country suddenly developed a conscience?  Don't make me laugh.  It is because these rich monsters, who always favor Republicans, because they own the Republican party, realized that if this particular Republican becomes President, the odds are overwhelming that he is going to cause a worldwide depression, which will ruin them all.  So, through the expedient of just occasionally having their reporters tell a small part of the truth about Trump, they effectively crushed him.  Right now, it looks very unlikely that Trump could ever mount a comeback by election day.  But at the same time, they will do anything they can to prevent Hillary from having anything that looks like a mandate, so they are now trying to undermine her enough to make her win as small as possible.

This type of tampering with our elections by the hyper-rich poses as much a threat to us as Trump himself; in fact it is the hatred and greed that their propaganda has fostered for decades that created Trump.  It is so important to remember that Trump did not create his base; the base created him.  That base was created by the Kochs, and the Waltons and Sheldon Adelson and a couple hundred other evil families, and it will still be there when Trump is thrown on the trash heap.  And, its hunger will be unsated, which promises worse to come in the future.

Wingnut Wrapup

Well, it's been a few days since Trump's disgrace in debate number two, so I suspect the right wingers are coming out of their stunned silence with a new pack of excuses.  Here's a taste:

First, of course, the beginning of a new tsunami of voter fraud stories:

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Caught on Tape: Democratic Election Official Admits, 'There is a Lot of Voter Fraud'

Despite the actual evidence that there is no such thing.  By the way, this is another video by James O'Keefe, so we know just how much to trust that it isn't a phony editing job by a right wing hack..

"it's practically an article of faith on the Left that voter fraud is a non-existent problem "

Given the fact that there are less than a hundred documented cases of voter fraud across the United States in the last decade or so, out of hundreds of millions of votes cast, and that many of them seem to have been the result of failure to understand the laws, not some criminal scheme, I guess we could rewrite the above to say "it's practically an article of faith on the Left that true things are actually true. We on the right categorically reject such an unsophisticated understanding of reality."

And the media is rigged:

Leah Barkoukis, Town Hall:  "Clinton's Close Relationship With Media Continues, Campaign Boasts About How Interviewers Were "For Her"

You mean the the media actually doesn't want nuclear war and worldwide depression?  Man, are they in the tank for Democrats.

And one of the most revolting Conservative smears about the press being in the tank for Democrats that I have ever seen:

Debra Heine, PJ Media:  "CNN Sitting On 'Obama ERECTION' Video ... Since 2008?...Back in 2008, at least a portion of the below video of Obama flaunting himself did appear on CNN's website.  However, no media coverage made any reference to lewdness. Just of the unremarkable news that Obama was ... wearing jeans...liberal media bias is at the center of this controversy, too."

The photo accompanying this article shows no such thing, of course, but we are assured that in some other part of the video, which no longer exists, that is what you can see.  Can you imagine a story more degraded than this?  What did we ever do to deserve having our Presidential election turned into an orgy of sexual smears?

And how about, "Fuck the polls- we are really winning!"

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "MASSIVE CROWD FOR TRUMP in Ocala, Florida – Supporters Park Car and WALK A MILE to See TRUMP.  Despite the constant media attacks and lies — CLEARLY Their is ONE CANDIDATE This year who has stolen the hearts of everyday Americans. "

They WALKED A MILE!!!!!!!  Well, wonderful for them.  Anyway, I don't know about stealing their hearts, but if they are female, they had better make sure he doesn't steal their panties.

Justin Holcomb, Town Hall:  "New Poll: Donald Trump Takes the Lead Over Hillary Clinton"

A poll by Rasmussen, the Republican party propaganda factory.  The last time Rasmussen called an election correctly was the day before Trump got sex without either buying it or forcing himself on someone.

And how about "Screw  the truth, we're going to do whatever we want"?

D.C. McAlister, PJ Media:  "A Conservative Woman’s Defense of the Brave Men Who Support Trump-The men who are fighting for a Trump victory are not cowards."

No, they are not cowards, they are disgusting subhumans.

"I have to laugh at this hysteria. What Puritanical world has this woman been living in? Does she know nothing?"

What "puritanical" world?  Maybe the one which still retains some meager scrap of human decency?

And if that doesn't work, how about just going all out and embracing complete delusion:

Joan Swirsky, Renew America:  "Why Trump will prevail...The Trump campaign should be throwing thank-you bouquets at Hillary's minions for unearthing an 11-year-old video of the businessman speaking raunchily about women to Hollywood Access host Billy Bush. Why?
It demonstrates the sheer panic the Hillary campaign is in at the devolving internal-poll numbers that show the ailing candidate barely keeping her [involuntarily] bobbling chin above the water line of decisive failure."

Yeah, and the polls bear that out, Joan, so keep telling yourself that, so you can scream about the rigged election after November 8.

Or just To Hell with everything, we'll say whatever we want:

Larry Elder, Town Hall:  "The crass tape of Donald Trump speaking in vulgar terms about women and what he has supposedly done to them worked, ironically, in Trump's favor during the second debate."

Righto, Larry.  That's just what is happening.  You betcha.

Ericka Haas, Town Hall:  “Let’s Move On” From the Trump Tape"

Let's not, Ericka.  Let's obsess about it all day long, every single day, from now until the election.  How does that deal seem to you?  Because it's the best you are going to get.  The alternative is going to be even worse coming out about Trump, which is almost certain to be what is about to happen.

And now, perhaps the worst lie of the week, and from whom else?

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Anonymous: Video of Bill Clinton Raping 13 Yr-Old Girl Will Plunge Race into Chaos"

Jim also claims:

"Anonymous claims the video will plunge the presidential race into chaos.  The video was released this week."

The video was released this week.  And the press is ignoring it.  Right, Jim.  If you are interested, you can watch it here.

I wouldn't bother if I were you, because the video, loosely aping Anonymous' style, contains not one frame of Bill Clinton or anything else, other than a guy in a Guy Fawkes mask making a bunch of disgusting, unproven claims.  Expect a lot more of this in the next month.

And more from Jim:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "CLINTON CARTEL SCRAPES BOTTOM=> Accuses Trump and Assange of Sex Crimes to Stop Bleeding"

"Bleeding" apparently being the new wingnut euphemism for "beating the hell out of us."

Cortney O'Brien, Town Hall:  "Trump Puts Question Mark on Paul Ryan's Future"

I think it might be more appropriate to say that Ryan put a question mark on his own future, by being a craven jackass, but since when has that really been a disqualifier for right wingers.  Don't worry, all will be forgiven, and Paul will be right back in there, steering the nation toward oblivion.

Senator David Perdue, Town Hall:  "I Say We Are Doing Our Job"

By not voting on Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court.  Well, Senator Perdue, I say that is only true if you think your job is to ruin the country, which, judging from Republican behavior the last thirty years, is probably true.  Perdue continues:

"The upcoming presidential election will not only determine the direction of our country, but also serve as a referendum on the balance of the Supreme Court for generations."

Let's see if that is still his attitude after Hillary wins, when he will undoubtedly graciously assent to anyone she picks, right?

Mark Davis, Town Hall:  "Right Now, There Are Only Two Kinds of Conservatives"

Yeah, stupid ones and crooked ones.

And well, what would the day be without some more lunatic craziness from The Stupidest Man On The Internet?

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "WIKILEAKS BOMBSHELL: Hillary Advisors Admit She “HATES EVERYDAY AMERICANS”

Right.  And now, from Jim, a new crime:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Wikileaks Documents Show Hillary Clinton ‘Read from a Prepared Script’ During MSNBC Interview"

She read from a script!  Off to prison with her!  I'm guessing Republicans are trying to make that a crime, since their candidate seems incapable of anything but violent, hate-filled stream-of-conscience shouting.

Jenn Giroux, Renew America:  "Ohio Catholics forgive and embrace Donald Trump for President"

More shame on them.  Of course, they forgave their own priests for raping them.  What tolerant Christians.

And finally, good election news for Trump:

Christine Rousselle, Town Hall:  "Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's Wikipedia page was hacked on Wednesday and replaced with a graphic, NSFW picture of a woman's anatomy, along with a message that voting for Clinton will trigger a nuclear war and will enable Bill Clinton to rape people."

Yeah, that'll show HER!
