One more Piece of Lingering Bush Ugliness

John Yoo in an " opinion" piece - linked to by Daily Kos: Well, let's get this part of it out of the way first: "When she served as dean of Harvard Law School, Kagan prohibited the U.S. military from recruiting students on campus" This is, of course, one more Republican lie. Kagan did no such thing, as is perfectly well known by anyone who has followed this story. Now on to the money quote: "What if a college dean barred from campus recruiting any law firm that provided free representation to al-Qaida terrorists? Suppose she believes that the firms are providing aid and comfort to the enemy in wartime. " This man is allowed to be a professor of law at one of our major universities, and held a high position in the worst presidential administration ever, where he did immense damage to our nation's standing in the world, yet he apparently does not understand one of the most basic principles of American law: the right to counsel. Mr. ...

Another Republican Hypocrite- Who Could Have Predicted It?

These things just never stop: "Eight-term Indiana Rep. Mark Souder announced his resignation Tuesday after admitting to an affair with a female aide who worked in his district office. Souder, a Republican, will will step down on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff." Not familiar with this guy? Souder, according to Fox News, was "Elected as a family values conservative as part of the Republican revolution in 1994..." He has been described as the leading proponent in Congress of abstinence education.

Does It Never Stop?

The party of family values strikes again: From Talking Points Memo: "The Majority Leader of the Utah House took a nude hot-tub with a 15-year old employee, then paid her $150,000 and had her pledge to keep quiet, he admitted yesterday." Are you in any doubt, by the way, which party holds the majority in the Utah State legislature?

Your Morning Cup of Joe- With Lots of Sugar

Okay...I can't resist. From Talking Points Memo: "....independent Sen. Joe Lieberman's approval rating is absolutely in the dumps after his actions in the health care debate, with him having antagonized every group imaginable by both weakening progressive efforts and then voting for the actual bill.... Lieberman's overall approval rating is only 25%, with 67% disapproval. Democrats disapprove of him by 14%-81%, Republicans by 39%-48%, and independents by 32%-61%." There's more, if you don't have a big enough smile on your face already.

TPM Columnist Gets It All Wrong

I love Talking Points Memo, but I am afraid I have to strongly disagree with the sentiment expressed in an article today by Nathan Newman: "By a 5-4 decision, the conservative judicial activists on the Supreme Court violated in the Ricci decision any reasonable notion of state sovereignty.... It is a remarkable thing that conservatives that supposedly object to (a) inflexible federal rules on civil rights; (b) telling states how to spend their own money, and (c) second-guessing elected officials with judicial opinion would violate all three principles in the Ricci firefighter case." Nathan, Nathan, Nathan....Are you trying to tell us that it is "remarkable" when conservatives turn out to not give a God damn about the sacred principles that they have blabbed on about for years? Are you trying to tell us that it is "remarkable" when it turns out that conservatives will do anything they want, regardless of those so-called principles? Come on guy, there'...
