More Evidence That the World is Going Crazy

They've arrested a new guy in the Ricin attacks on President Obama, a judge and two Senators.  This time, it's not an Elvis impersonator, it's a Wayne Newton impersonator.

Things like that don't happen in the real world, do they?

Wingnut Wrapup

It's Be Kind To George W. Bush Week!  If that isn't a depressing way to start off, I don't know what is, except for New Heart for Cheney Day.

Mark Davis, Town Hall:  "If George W. Bush Were President Today"

God forbid.

"So with no archive of articles featuring George W. riffing on events of the last four years, we are left with his record and the handful of quote nuggets he has offered up in interviews this week."

We are left with his record.  Right you are, Mark.  His record as the worst President ever.  I don't think that's the tale you are going to be spinning here...

"...if he were to spend more than I would like, at least it would be fueled by the engine of an economy energized by lower taxes"

Yeah, just like the lower taxes he presided over, which "energized" our economy so much that it drove right off a cliff.

"If the fiscal issues would be a mixed bag, at least the social agenda would be returned to some level of human decency."

What, torture?

"In short, a new Bush presidency would probably satisfy conservatives in some ways and annoy them in others, much as his eight actual years did."

And what about the Bush Presidency satisfied Conservatives?  Man, I'd like to hear that one explained.  Except the torture, of course- they all loved that.

Keith Hennessy- former Bush Advisor:  "President Bush is extremely smart by any traditional standard. He’s highly analytical and was incredibly quick to be able to discern the core question he needed to answer. It was occasionally a little embarrassing when he would jump ahead of one of his Cabinet secretaries in a policy discussion and the advisor would struggle to catch up. He would sometimes force us to accelerate through policy presentations because he so quickly grasped what we were presenting. I use words like briefing and presentation to describe our policy meetings with him, but those are inaccurate. Every meeting was a dialogue, and you had to be ready at all times to be grilled by him and to defend both your analysis and your recommendation. That was scary."

Man, how stupid do they think we are?

Myra Adams, PJ Media:  "What Was Bush Thinking While Obama Spoke at His Library Opening?"

Well, judging from his behavior in office, nothing.

John Ransom, Town Hall:  " Let’s just call it what it is: The country has a big, nasty case of V.D.-That’s Virus Democratus...This is what happens when you put hippies in charge."

What, you mean no economic disasters and no wars of aggression?  Man, those hippies never want to have any fun.

"Quick: What percentage of people in the Obama administration do you think go to church each week? What percentage of people in the Obama administration smoke weed each week?  Now subtract the one number from the other.    Any questions?"

John, of course, doesn't have a clue what those numbers might be, but still...

"After a decade of letting Obama work on scholarship because of white guilt, demographics and a weak bench of unelectable doofuses- John Edwards, Howard Dean, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton anyone?- now that political results matter to the Democratus Party, some are getting a little shy about the president."

"Some" are getting a little shy about the President.  No names of course, just "some."  And my God, after what we saw in the last year, how does any Republican have the nerve to accuse someone else about a weak bench of unelectable doofuses?  And just wait until 2016, when you can see just how "unelectable" Hillary is.  She'll be unelectable, of course, in your polls- right up until she wipes the floor with Marco Rubio or another Bush or whatever idiot you find to run against her, no matter how much your rich corporate vultures spend.

Doug Giles, Town Hall:  "Jihad On Our Tax Dollars? Screw That.  That’s a question folks. What do you propose we do to make certain they don’t get one red cent to spill one ounce of our red blood?"

How about never electing another person like Ronald Reagan, who essentially gave birth to the Taliban and Al Qaida, by arming Afghan Mujahedeen to fight against the Russians?

Daniel Doherty, Town Hall:  "Surprise: Stoners at Weed Convention Are Utterly Clueless"

And what is your excuse for Republicans at their convention?  At least stoners' cluelessness isn't wrecking the country.

Dennis Prager, Town Hall:  "Why Is There a Hookup Culture?  It is well known that most college students engage at one time or another in what is known as a "hookup" -- an emotionless, commitment-less sexual encounter."

Why do people have commitment-less sexual encounters?  Well, listen, Dennis...no, if you don't understand it by now you never will.

Sher Zieve, Renew America:  "Obama and other traitors bring an end to sanity and my country"

Well, Sher, I hadn't noticed that our country has ended, but when I read you, I see what you mean about an end to sanity.  Here (no, I can't control myself) is an example of what I mean from Sher:

"the federal government is now working to rid itself of the States...altogether"

Maybe they should think about that.  Without the States, the Federal Government won't have much left- pretty much just the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.  Not exactly what you need to keep telling yourself that you are a superpower.

"Taking on the tone of the surreal, recent "massacres" – many aspects of which strongly appear to have been staged by the ObamaGov and Marxist Hollywood for maximum effect toward assisting them in establishing a US police state – from Aurora, CO through Sandy Hook to the latest Boston Marathon bombings are continuing to develop into what appear to be "staged events" status."

Well, there it is.  It's all a pack of Muslim Commie plots.  There's the right wing take on the government.  Hard to figure out how you deal with people who claim to believe that, huh?  Short of electroshock therapy.

Laurie Roth, Renew America:  "Who is the real Obama running our country? I and millions believe that his own behavior reveals the tale. He is Muslim, not eligible to be president, because he wasn't born in the U.S; he is gay or bi-sexual; he is a Communist and an internationalist, where the ends always justify the means.  Obama is just another boring dictator and tyrant stealing from the playbooks of all the others."

Yeah, yeah, blah blah blah.  If you and millions really believe that, Laurie, you are among the biggest fools in the history of the world.  But we know that you do not believe that.  What you believe is that you are never going to admit that a black man was elected to be your President, and you will claim to believe he is a Martian before you will accept reality.

John Rocker, World Net Daily:  "I'd rather profile than cower in fear"

Well, the rest of us are not cowering in fear, John, just you and your wingnut buddies.  So we'd just as soon keep our freedoms.  We're not giving them up because you are too cheap to see a shrink.

Michael Bresciani:  "Obama berates birthers -- when did asking honest questions become a joke?"

Honest questions.  Right.  Here is a list of the "honest questions" that this jackass wants to ask Obama, with answers from Green Eagle, to save Obama the trouble:

"Why, are your school records, sealed from public view? Are you ashamed of them?"

Obama has been elected President twice by the American people, who have had years to see who he is.  What the hell would revealing his school records accomplish, except to give right wing asses a chance to crow that they beat him down, before claiming that they are all forgeries, and moving on to some other irrelevant, invasive demand?

"Why hasn't someone in the United States been held responsible for the death of a dedicated Border Officer due to the botched gun running brainstorm called operation 'Fast and Furious?'

Maybe we should hold Bush and Cheney responsible, since this type of program was started under their administration.

"Who exactly is responsible for the deaths of one U.S. ambassador and several of our finest fighting men in the hideously handled harangue called 'the Benghazi attack?'"

Who exactly is responsible for the deaths of 4,600 American troops in the hideously handled criminal aggression called "the Iraq war?"  And why, exactly, aren't people like you interested in that?

"Why are you tying the hands of ICE agents who should be actively tying the hands of those who illegally cross the borders of this country?"

God damned right!  Why are you making ICE agents follow the law, and treat people according to the Bill of Rights?  We've got wetbacks to keep out!

"Why are you allowed to hurdle piles of bucks at failed green dreams like Solyndra and then close the White House to visitors for lack of funds."

Why are Republicans allowed to "hurdle" (I think he meant hurtle) vastly greater piles of bucks at the richest industry in the history of the world, while closing cancer clinics for lack of funds?

"Why were sequester fears laid on the public in a systematic and concerted effort while Michelle vacations around the nation, and the world, on the taxpayer's dime."

What exactly did you have to say when George W. Bush took vastly more vacation time than any President in our history?  Of course, from Green Eagle's viewpoint, every day he was goofing off down in Texas was one day he didn't have a chance to damage the country, so maybe it was a good thing.

"Why are you so sensitive when Americans doubt that you are a Christian? Hasn't anyone told you that abortion and homosexuality are both diametrically opposed to Christ, his Apostles and every prophet and the Biblical message contained in both the Old and New Testament?"

Hasn't anyone told Michael that Christ never had one recorded word to say about abortion and homosexuality?  And what about the "Biblical message" where Christ did talk about helping the poor, the sick, foreigners among us, prisoners, etc?  Funny how right wingers routinely ignore what he really said, but are able to intuit through mental telepathy or something, or because they're just so much holier than the rest of us, how he felt about things he never bothered to talk about.  I mean, it couldn't be that Michael is projecting his own hate-filled, racist intolerant views on a guy who has been gone for two thousand years and can't answer back.  No, that couldn't possibly be true.

Well, God in heaven above, that's enough for today.  This gets harder and harder to take as they get more and more idiotic.

Jackasses Bray for War

Of course, it's come down to this:

"Lawmakers press Obama to take action on Syria...Republican senators on Sunday pressed U.S. President Barack Obama to intervene in Syria's civil war...Pressure is mounting on the White House to do more to help Syrian rebels fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad"

They're calling for Obama to help the rebels, so that if they manipulate him into it, they can then carry on screeching that Obama is in league with Al Qaida and Muslim terrorists, who support a number of rebel groups.  Naturally, this guy is leading the charge:

"Senator John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate in 2008, said the United States should step up its support for Syrian rebels even if it turns out that Assad's forces have not used poison gas in the conflict.

"We could use Patriot (missile) batteries and cruise missiles," the Arizona lawmaker,  in the U.S. Senate, told NBC's Meet The Press."

Where would a Republican demand for mindless violence anywhere in the world be, if it didn't have their 2008 sore loser to help out?  What a pathetic comment it is that McCain's unbroken record of being wrong about every foreign policy issue for decades doesn't disqualify him from being "an influential voice on military issues."  It was the obesiance paid to violent idiots like McCain that got us into Iraq, and if he has his way, we'll end up fighting a war against Syria, and Iran too.  These people are crazy, but they are still "influential voices."

Gun Group Holds Rally With AR-15s To Congratulate Congress For Blocking Background Checks

That's the story.  Sounds horrible, doesn't it?  Well, here's the rally:

Some rally, huh?  Man, that'll show them.  I remember going to an anti-Iraq war rally in Washington D.C. a few years ago that drew 350,000 people or so, but was virtually ignored by the press.  But this gets national publicity.

We all know how our media treat the infantile arguments of the right as equal with the sane positions of the left.  Here's another form of false equivalence.  I first noticed this with the disgusting media hoopla over the Terry Schiavo case.  I have looked at well over a hundred photos of the right wing demonstrators outside of Schiavo's hospital, and I have never seen one that showed more than three or four dozen people.  Yet this was treated to daily media coverage for months.  During the heyday of the Tea Parties, I reported frequently on events that I had attended, and ones that were reported in the press.  The same thing was almost inevitable- crowd sizes were vastly overstated, in order to claim that these people represented a significant number of Americans.

The truth is, these are synthetic, phony events that are designed for no other purpose than to give our corrupt press an opportunity to claim that the goals of the rich are supported by large numbers of Americans.  And the press goes along with it every time.  This particular item is from a left of center website, and even they fail to point out in their story what a pathetic excuse for a popular movement this is, and how it shows not the strength but the weakness of the American right wing.

Daily Show Brilliance on Gun Legislation

Here is an absolutely masterful Daily Show segment on the history of gun control in Australia:

This is one of the most incisive bits I have ever seen from the Daily Show, and really devastates the American right wing on this issue.  If you missed it, give it a listen- you'll really like it.

More News We Never Thought We'd Ever Hear

"Charges in the case were initially filed against an Elvis impersonator but then dropped"

Really, what surprises me is that the charges were dropped.  The fact that this sort of thing is not a crime is one of the worst signs of the current decline of American morality.  Just sayin'

They've Gone Totally Crazy

First today, the story below about the infantile Republicans in Missouri doing away with their State bureau that issues drivers' licenses, and now this:

"GOP Lawmakers Hope to Combat Ammunition Stockpiling by Gov’t Agencies With AMMO Act

Republicans in the Senate and House are expected to introduce a joint bill Friday that would limit the amount of ammunition that federal agencies are allowed to buy and stockpile over the next six months, the Washington Free Beacon reports...The bill, titled the Ammunition Management for More Accountability or "AMMO" Act, is being proposed after several lawmakers have voiced concerns about some federal agencies, like the Department of Homeland Security, seemingly stockpiling large quantities of ammo.

In a statement provided to the Washington Free Beacon, one of the bill's co-sponsors, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), said federal agencies must provide more "transparency and accountability" in regards to its "stockpiles of ammunition."

"President Obama has been adamant about curbing law-abiding Americans' access and opportunities to exercise their Second Amendment rights...One way the Obama administration is able to do this is by limiting what's available in the market with federal agencies purchasing unnecessary stockpiles of ammunition," the statement adds."

For those that may have missed this, there is an absolutely nonsensical, false claim among the lunatic right (not the only one by a far chance, of course) that the Homeland Security Department is buying billions of bullets, to use when they turn the country into a dictatorship, at the orders of the Obama administration.  It is apparently okay now for Republican Senators to base their legislative behavior on malicious fantasies like this.

At this point, I must unfortunately advance a new explanation for the behavior of the Republican party, as it is the only one which now fits the facts as we can see them.  I am afraid that Republicans, after their totally unexpected (by them) loss to Obama in November, have been struck like lightning by the realization that never again will they be able to call the shots and make this country work to benefit them alone.  Their response, like vicious little children, is if they can't have it, no one can.  I am afraid that they have set themselves on a deliberate campaign to destroy the United States, and leave only smoldering ruins behind them.  This now seems to be a more viable alternative to them than sharing power with other kinds of people.  They are becoming like mass murderers who shoot themselves at the end of their sprees- happy to destroy themselves as long as they can take everyone else to hell with them.

Talk me down if you care to- I can't find any other explanation for what is going on.  We are riding in a plane with a suicidal pilot, and I can't think of a way to get out.

No End to the Insanity

There is apparently no depth of irresponsibility that Republican legislators will not sink to:

"Missouri Senate votes to defund driver’s license bureau...Missouri residents could be unable to get driver’s licenses if a funding cut passed Monday by the Missouri Senate were to ultimately become law.

If the entire $3.5 million allotment for the Motor Vehicle and Driver Licensing Division ultimately is eliminated: “They will not be able to issue any driver’s licenses,” Schaefer, a Columbia Republican, acknowledged."

Why did this happen?  Because of some harebrained conspiracy theory involving gun rights, which apparently was bought into by the Republicans in the Missouri Senate.

Is there any way that Republicans can destroy the functioning of government that they won't stoop to?  I just don't know any more.

Before writing this off as sheer lunacy, I must report on the substance of a comment to one of the articles dealing with this idiocy:  This commenter suggested that there may be a more malignant motive than sheer mental imbalance behind all of this.  You can't register to vote without a State ID.  Most Republicans, being older, are already registered.  Could this possibly be an attempt to prevent younger people, who are largely Democrats, from registering to vote, putting off for a few more pathetic years the utter collapse of the Republicans' ability to maintain power despite representing an ever decreasing share of the voters?  At this point, I can't think that any sane person would think something like this would be beneath them.

Everything like this (and we see things like it every day) moves us one step closer to a very ugly day of reckoning in this country.  And no one in control seems to be willing to do anything about it.

Wingnut Wrapup

I've tried to keep the sickening mass of Conservative attempts to turn the Marathon bombing to their advantage to a minimum.  God knows, I could have filled ten Wingnut Wrapups with their junk, but I've tried to show a little restraint this time.  Next, back to my usual raving:

Derek Hunter, Town Hall:  "Progressives can’t help themselves. When normal person hear of a tragedy, they feel the natural range of emotions – fear, anger, sympathy, etc. But progressives are not normal humans. When they hear news of a tragedy their first thought is “How can this help the cause?” There’s something oddly perverse about this mental defect that somehow overrides decency in tragedy’s aftermath...Progressive’s hatred for America is not limited to race. It’s universal against the culture because the culture still insists on embracing liberty and responsibility. As such, it must be attacked."

Projection, what?

Debra Saunders, Town Hall:  "There is no problem too flimsy for California's nanny lawmakers, as witnessed by the many laws that state solons have proposed to keep constituents from getting free plastic bags at the grocery. Those teensy plastic bags are cheap."

Arsenic is cheap, too, Debra.  That doesn't mean you can get it for free at the supermarket.

Larry Klayman, Renew America: "In short, Obama has set the tone and led the way in giving this green light to his fellow Muslims bent on terror."

Fellow Muslims.  Hmm.

"Nor was there hardly any mention on any station or other press entity of even the possibility that Muslim terror was involved in the huge explosion that occurred in West, Texas, where a fertilizer plant blew up Wednesday...This intentionally "clueless" rendition of the likely cause of the blast continues to this day"

Yes, that's right- Muslims blew the fertilizer plant up too.  And the whole press, which jumped on any crazy theory about the Marathon bombing, is keeping its mouths shut, because they are all tools of the Muslims too.

"But at least "W" and "Uncle Dick" projected strength and did not appease and roll over to Muslim and other terrorist interests."

Yeah, "strength."  They "projected" strength.  Too bad for us that they didn't show any strength when they went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, other than the strength to kill a few hundred thousand civilians..

Jack Cashill, American Thinker:  "How Long Before Dzhokhar Starts Palling Around with Obama?"

Good question, Jack.  How long before Dzhokhar is over there at the White House swilling beer with Obama?  How long do you think?  Just don't try holding your breath until it happens, or you are going to turn really blue and scare your dog.

Bob Owens, Gun Mad Jackass:  "After days of inept searching and false alarms, Boston Marathon bombing suspect is finally captured"

Four days!  FOUR DAYS!  It took them a whole FOUR DAYS to catch the bombing suspects!  The worthless, incompetent government stooges.  No wonder so many right wingers like Bob Owens are just hungering for a chance to shoot a few of those useless police down and get them off the government dole.

Roger Simon, PJ Media:  "We have the worst possible president to deal with the threat of Islamic terrorism."

What, the one who killed Osama Bin Laden and under whom the latest bombers were caught in four days?  My money for worst possible President is on the one who didn't catch Bin Laden in seven years, never found a clue about the anthrax mailings, and presided over the biggest military blunder in two centuries.  But then, you've forgotten about that one, huh?

Michael Gaynor, Renew America:  "Chuck Morse warns that ACORN's goal is to take over America in new book"

Acorn. Man, they never give up.  Next we will be hearing about the threat posed by the IWW or the Abraham Lincoln brigades.

World Net Daily Exclusive:  "'The Quran is our constitution'  Tracing roots of Islamism inside the U.S."

The Quran is our constitution.  Outrageous!  Compare this despicable claim to the attitudes of real Americans as illustrated below:

Dan Popp, Renew America:  "Miranda and other myths... There are no "Miranda rights" if you believe that rights come from God and not from the Supreme Court."

Well, Dan, sane people do not believe that.  Only Islamic militants and people like you.  But Dan isn't done being stupid for today:

I don't believe that Mr. Tsarnaev is a citizen.  Yes, I know he was naturalized, and I assume he even has the documentation to prove it."

But Dan still doesn't believe it.  He knows better.  Of course, he doesn't believe in evolution, global warming, rational economics, or any of a hundred other things that are obviously true.  And while I am on the subject, Dan doesn't believe that Constitutional protections apply to non-citizens.  This is a common right wing claim, so I am taking this opportunity to point out that the Bill of Rights never says such a thing- it applies these rights to all people, not just American citizens.  This is just one more example of right wingers blabbing away about how much they revere the Constitution, while ignoring what it clearly says.

Bryan Fischer, Renew America:  "I have advocated for some time that we suspend the practice of allowing Muslims to serve in our military simply because they, as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan illustrates, have a sacred obligation to kill their fellow soldiers as their first order of business."

Of course, hundreds of thousands of Muslims have served in the military without feeling any "sacred obligation to kill their fellow soldiers as their first order of business," but one that did is all it takes to kick them all out.  Not sure how Bryan feels about the recent plot by a bunch of Christian soldiers in Georgia to kill Obama, which got off to a great start when they murdered two of their co-conspirators.  I guess all Christians should be kicked out of the military too.  Think of the money the government could save by not having to pay soldiers for a day off at Christmas and Easter.  And really, even Israel hasn't thought of having an all-Jewish army- maybe it's worth a try.  If we can afford the bagels.

And now, an episode of Get Your Story Straight, Buddy:

Reza Khalili, World Net Daily:  "Quds Forces planned Boston bombings for 2 years...Qasem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s Quds Forces, ordered reconnaissance and intelligence gathering on various events and public gatherings in the United States years ago, culminating in the bombings at the Boston Marathon one week ago, WND has learned."

Well, that certainly is some terrifying news.  Reza, maybe you should get together with your friend Drew Zahn, who had this to report the same day:

Drew Zahn, World Net Daily:  "Glenn Beck to Obama: Come clean on bombing, or else...What is Beck threatening to expose? Apparently it has something to do with Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, a Saudi national initially questioned by police following the bombing, but since released."

Saudi Arabia?  Iran?  Well, those ragheads are all the same, right?  They're all in it together.  Let's just kill them all.  Because, if it's at World Net Daily, it must be true.

World Net Daily:  "Nanny Tells Family Dead Baby Only Napping"

It's pining for the fjords.  By the way, that's the same thing Bush and Cheney told us about the Iraq war for six years.

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "Man Defends His Life With an AR-15"

A guy killed an intruder in his apartment.  In the meantime, scores of innocent people were killed with guns, but Katie does not care about them, because being dead, they are of no value to the firearms industry.

Harry R. Jackson, Jr, Town Hall:  "Minimum Wage Hurts Unskilled Black Workers...Did you know that there was a time in our country, after the Civil War, when white unemployment was higher than black unemployment?"

Did you know that there was a time before the Civil War when black unemployment was way lower that white unemployment?  Harry seems to feel that it would be a good idea to go back to indentured servitude, lifelong indebtedness and starvation wages.  Then everyone could have a job!  Hooray!

Now, some of the most pathetic rewriting of history ever:

Bill Murchison, Town Hall:  "While presiding over a war someone else started, George W. Bush received abuse and vilification unprecedented for a U. S. president"

Someone else started the war in Iraq?  Oh yeah, Dick Cheney did, I guess, so it's not Bush's fault at all!  Or maybe it was started by Yogi the Bear.  Yeah, that's right.  Yogi the Bear.  Or maybe Obama in a Yogi the Bear suit.  We're getting closer to the truth all the time.  Yeah, Obama started the war in Iraq!  Bill continues:

"What is true, I venture, is that our national trip into the vortex of the Iraqi-Afghan-Muslim-terror-war whirlpool was predestined under existing circumstances -- an aspect of fate; postponable, maybe, but unavoidable."

Oh I get it now.  Fate started the "Iraqi-Afghan-Muslim-terror-war whirlpool."  It wasn't Bush that invaded Iraq at all, it was predestined, i.e. Bush was only carrying out the will of God.  So see, Bush isn't at fault, God is!  And everything that any Muslim ever did is part of the same evil plot, so once one Muslim did something we didn't like, it is only fair if we kill any of them any time we want, forever.  That is how you make them love Democracy.

Washington Times:  "Obama, Clinton blew Benghazi response: Republican report"

Republican report.  Gee, that's surprising.

"Democrats on the five committees fired off a letter Tuesday saying they were left out of the report-writing entirely"

Oh, well what could do more to convince us that the report is reliable, rather than a partisan hatchet job?

William A. Levinson, American Thinker:  "Gun Bill Defeat is Not Enough...In the gun rights battle, the legal and nonviolent destruction of entire organizations -- and politcal careers -- is on the table"

Apparently doing the bidding of corrupt corporations is not enough for this guy- he wants to eliminate all of the people that were in favor of this legislation- 90% of the American population.

And let's just end with some religious messages:

Answers in Genesis Magazine:  "Today, the English Channel separates the British Isles from the continent of Europe. But during the Ice Age, Britain was not an island. The ocean was so low that the shallow seafloor was dry land, known as Doggerland. People from Babel actually lived there until the melting ice flooded their homeland."

Oy.  People from Babel lived on the bottom of the English Channel.  During the ice age.  Oy.

Answers in Genesis Magazine:  "Christians cannot accept the argument that homosexuality is an immutable characteristic. . . . On that basis, why not grant theft or other sinful behavior the same civil rights protection?"

Oy yoy yoy.  I give up.

Headlines We Never Thought We'd See

"Mormon bishop with Samurai sword runs off attacker"

The world is going crazy.

Washington Post Sinks Further Into the Gutter

As they always do when they give space to Jennifer Rubin, who has today managed to produce the most offensive pack of lies in one column I have ever seen.  The Washington Post is the major newspaper in the nation's capitol, and is still for some reason regarded as one of the unimpeachable sources of news in our country.  For this reason, I can't let Rubin's column today, a virtual one-woman Wingnut Wrapup go unnoticed.  I'm not going to cite all of it here, but the quantity of the column I'm reproducing below certainly goes beyond normal standards of fair use.  But with an unending stream of malignant lies like this, what does fair use have to do with anything?  Well, hold your breath- here we go:

"Unlike Obama’s tenure, there was no successful attack on the homeland after 9/11."

After 9/11.  I see.  Bush gets a pass on that one.  And by the way, this is a lie.  What about the anthrax attacks, unsolved and forgotten?  And various right wing bombings and murders?  Of course, if they come from Jennifer's side of the street, they don't count, right?

"People do remember the big stuff — rallying the country after the Twin Towers attack,"

Standing at the site of his most colossal failure and shouting through a bullhorn?  That was his greatest success?  In eight years?

"7 1/2 years of job growth and prosperity,"

That reminds me of the joke about the guy who jumps off of a skyscraper, and halfway down is saying to himself, "hey, this isn't too bad so far."  In the other half year, he presided over the worst financial collapse in almost a century, and what's more, it was caused by the policies he championed.  His only mistake was timing- he thought the collapse wouldn't come until he was back in Texas, and it could all be blamed on the next guy.

"millions of people saved from AIDS in Africa, a good faith try for immigration reform, education reform and a clear moral compass."

A clear moral compass?  Bush was the most corrupt President in the history of our country.  I'm not going to even begin to justify that remark- we all know it is true.

"And, it turned out that the triumvirate of Iraq-Iran-North Korea really was the Axis of Evil."

Except for Iraq, the only one of the three he attacked.  And maybe Iran, which has reason to be against the United States, since we overthrew their democratically elected government and replaced it with a dictator every bit as bad as Saddam.

"Unlike the current president, who’s played politics with the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, President Bush took huge political risks to back the surge in Iraq, which worked."

First of all, it was not a risk, compared to the alternative, which was to admit that he had allowed the U.S. army to be beaten by a ragtag bunch of self-equipped peasants, and to turn tail and run; second, the surge accomplished nothing except putting off the inevitable failure until people like Jennifer Rubin could blame it on someone else- just like their strategy for the economic collapse they caused.

"He is responsible for one of the most popular and fiscally sober entitlement plans, Medicare Part D."

Medicare part D was a gigantic, unfunded giveaway to the pharmaceutical industry, which is one of the factors in the explosion of our budget deficits.

"He did not foist a grandiose unpopular and exorbitant program like Obamacare on the public."

No, but he did foist a grandiose, unpopular and exorbitant war of aggression on the public, through lies and deliberate distortions, and grandiose, unpopular and exorbitant tax cuts for rich people, which bankrupted the country.

"And then there were his tax cuts, 99 percent of which were approved by the most liberal president in history."

FDR?  From beyond the grave, I guess.  The tax cuts were a major cause of our current budget deficits, of course, as I said above, which Jennifer blames on Obama.

"Even the TARP program, reviled by conservatives, can be credited with helping to calm the markets and stabilize financial institutions."

Markets which needed "calming" because of the destruction Bush had caused.

"To the left’s horror, it turns out that most of his anti-terror fighting techniques (e.g. the Patriot Act, enhanced military commissions, Guantanamo) were effective and remain in place. Even the dreaded enhanced interrogation, according to two CIA agents and the former attorney general, contributed to our locating and assassinating Osama bin Laden. The essence of his view on Islamic terror — that we are at war with those espousing a jihadist ideology – has been confirmed, painfully so."

All malignant lies.

"Only when we see a robotic, cold president like Obama do we remember fondly the tender, tearful love of country Bush often conveyed and the steely anger directed at our enemies."

Oh, God in heaven above.  Is there a person on earth that doesn't know that the "tearful, tender love" and the "steely anger" were colossal delusions designed to sucker the rubes while his real constituency robbed the country into economic collapse?

"Only when a president completely bollixes up our relationship with both the Palestinians and the Israelis"

Lie.  Lie, lie lie.  The Israelis recently gave Obama their highest civilian honor- the only President to ever receive it.

"do we recall how warm and productive was our relationship with the Jewish state under Bush"

Productive of what?

"And only when we see our current president kick our friends and kowtow to our foes can we fully appreciate a president with strong personal bonds with leaders (e.g. Tony Blair) and fierce determination not to appease our foes."

Of course, Bush did nothing but appease our real foes- i.e. his kissin' cousins in Saudi Arabia, who were really responsible for 9-11,  while squandering trillions attacking the wrong country.

"All of this will infuriate the left and enrage the far right"

It will certainly infuriate the left, because it is a pack of lies.  That's why the right will love it.

Jennifer continues with a round of abuse of Obama which is just as big a pack of lies as her insane hagiography of Bush, but enough is enough.

How can we be expected to have a rational conversation of the state of our country when this is what passes for mainstream analysis from one side of the debate?

Well, I'll answer my own question: we can't.  And that is where we are stuck.

Important Announcement!!1!1!!1

Tonight, you can be treated to this overwhelmingly spectacular internet broadcast!

Yes, Laurie Roth, perhaps the most deranged talk show host this side of Jeff Rense (Laurie hasn't yet confessed to believing that our government is ruled by lizard people from outer space) is joining together with fellow Renew America stalwart Sher Zieve, to spend three hours presenting the notion that the Sandy Hook shooting was a government conspiracy.  Sher, a perpetual resident of Wingnut Wrapup, is ludicrously described by Laurie as an "investigative journalist;" in actual fact, poor Sher is a person clearly suffering from severe paranoid delusions, who is constantly raving about how Obama is right on the verge of establishing a Muslim Communist State right here in America.  I wouldn't believe either one of these people if they told me that Keith Richards is in the Rolling Stones.

This leaves true American patriots with an agonizing choice- are they going to listen to Laurie and Sher, or are they going to tune in to Glenn Beck, who has promised tonight to reveal how the Marathon bombers are connected to Benghazi, resulting in the immediate impeachment of Barack Obama.

So much delusion, so little time!

Liars Can Figure

The last half of the old saying, "figures don't lie, but liars can figure."  I'm referring to what is by far the most important story to have surfaced in the last couple of weeks, the tale of a paper written by two Harvard trained economists, Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff.

This paper, called Growth in a time of Debt,  purported to show that, when a nation's debt exceeded 90% of its annual GDP, a tipping point was reached which crushed economic growth.  It has been constantly quoted and hailed far and wide by proponents of the miserable "austerity" policies which have nearly destroyed the European economy, and which continue to damage our own.

It now turns out that this paper contained a number of serious errors, the most comic of which (if it wasn't so catastrophic) was a simple Excel coding error that "accidentally" left out the data of several of the most well-off countries.  Including that data, the conclusion of the paper is totally negated.  Thus it may be very fairly said that a large part of the suffering forced upon the people of Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy, and indeed here, is the result of what can at best be considered a mistake which anyone who uses Excel should be able to spot quickly.

I am not an economist.  I tried to find a way to explain the whole thing quickly, but as you might anticipate, I was easily bested by Paul Krugman, who is beginning to seem like the only sane voice in the whole mainstrteam press:

"In fact, Reinhart-Rogoff quickly achieved almost sacred status among self-proclaimed guardians of fiscal responsibility; their tipping-point claim was treated not as a disputed hypothesis but as unquestioned fact.

...the truth is that Reinhart-Rogoff faced substantial criticism from the start, and the controversy grew over time. As soon as the paper was released, many economists pointed out that a negative correlation between debt and economic performance need not mean that high debt causes low growth. It could just as easily be the other way around, with poor economic performance leading to high debt. Indeed, that’s obviously the case for Japan, which went deep into debt only after its growth collapsed in the early 1990s.

Other researchers, using seemingly comparable data on debt and growth, couldn’t replicate the Reinhart-Rogoff results."

I occasionally recommend that your read some article- I plead with you to read all of this one, as it reveals the utter bankruptcy of the endless campaign by the rich and powerful to restructure the whole world for their sole benefit.

Krugman, of course, never gets to the question of motive.  As a civilized individual he is content to let this whole incident pass as a tragic mistake.  Green Eagle has no such brake on his behavior, so he will take up the question with a few comments about Carmen Reinhart.

Before continuing, however, I need to turn to another subject:  that of Peter G. Peterson.  I was surprised a couple of days ago to discover that my wife had never heard of him, and if she hadn't, I suspect most other people haven't either.  Here's some information from an article in the Los Angeles Times:

"Who's the most influential billionaire business figure in national politics?

If you answered one of the Koch brothers (Charles or David) or George Soros, you're wearing your partisan blinders. The former are known for their devotion to conservative causes, the latter to liberal. In either case, you're wrong.

The most influential billionaire in America is Peter G. Peterson. The son of Greek immigrants, Peterson, 86, served as Commerce secretary under President Nixon, then became chairman and chief executive of Lehman Bros. Subsequently, he made his big money as co-founder of the Wall Street private equity firm Blackstone Group.

Peterson doesn't attract venom from the left like the Koch family or bile from the right like Soros. In Washington, he's treated with sedulous respect as a serious thinker about public policy willing to support earnest public discussion with cold cash. His money backs a large number of think tanks across the political spectrum...Peterson's views are subtly infiltrating the Washington debate — which is why Americans should start getting worried about him."

Peterson is the number one proponent of "austerity" proposals in the United States.  And let me say that I put that word in quotation marks, because it always turns out to mean austerity for you and me, but more money for people like Peter G. Peterson.

Now, why the detour to discuss Peterson?  Well, it turns out that, in 2010, a few months after publishing this paper,

"Carmen Reinhart, the University of Maryland professor who has studied eight centuries of financial crises, was named a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the Washington-based nonprofit said."

But of course, nothing to be seen here.  You can be positive that, with this "appointment" Reinhart's income increased vastly, but of course that could not possibly suggest that there is anything deliberate in her having produced a fallacious piece of academic "research" which so fully supported the positions of her future employer.  And just to add insult to injury, we learn:

"Her husband, Vincent Reinhart, is a former monetary- affairs director at the Federal Reserve and now resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute"

The American Enterprise Institute- possibly the biggest corporate lie factory in the United States.

So, the question remains, cheesy, high school grade error, or deliberate lie fabricated to delude the nations of the world into following a ruinous economic policy?  Unfortunately, whichever is true, the results are likely to remain the same.  I'll give Krugman the last word:

"So will toppling Reinhart-Rogoff from its pedestal change anything? I’d like to think so. But I predict that the usual suspects will just find another dubious piece of economic analysis to canonize, and the depression will go on and on."

Wingnut Wrapup- Epic Failure Edition

Respectfully dedicated to Pam Geller, who I usually ignore.  But this was too good to pass up:

"The Epic Failure of the Intel Agencies on the Boston Bombing...I find it very disconcerting that thirty-six hours (as of this writing) after the Boston terrorist bombing, law enforcement and counterterrorism officials are running hotlines and calls for "anyone seen with an unusually heavy, dark bag" in the Boston area.  A $50,000 reward has been offered for clues leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.  Officials are saying that this case is "wide open."

Yes, THIRTY SIX HOURS after this anonymous crime was committed, and we STILL HAVEN'T LYNCHED ANY MUSLIMS!  What kind of miserable failures are we?

Looking pretty stupid now, huh, Pammy?  I guess it's a miserable failure that it took police four days to catch both bombers.  Because look how much quicker Bush was to catch the mastermind of the 9-11 bombers.
Oh wait...

Of course, this miserable excuse for a human being states:

"In the past twenty years, all bomb attacks have been jihad-related."

Here, in case you care, is a list of dozens of right wing terrorist acts, many of them bombings or planned bombings, which have occurred in the country since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, which apparently Pam has forgotten.  The number dwarfs similar attempts by Islamists.  And let's not forget the Atlanta Olympics bombings, another act of terror against a world-publicized athletic event, perpetrated by a right winger.  Of course, neither Pam nor any of her wingnut friends gives a damn about the truth.  All they care about is stoking hatred.

And here is another world champion hater:

Bob Davis, conservative Minneapolis talk show host:

“I have something I want to say to the victims of Newtown, or any other shooting,” Davis said. “Just because a bad thing happened to you doesn’t mean that you get to put a king in charge of my life. I’m sorry that you suffered a tragedy, but you know what? Deal with it, and don’t force me to lose my liberty, which is a greater tragedy than your loss. I’m sick and tired of seeing these victims trotted out, given rides on Air Force One, hauled into the Senate well, and everyone is just afraid — they’re terrified of these victims.  I would stand in front of them and tell them, ‘go to hell”

Go to hell, shooting victims.  Not the shooter, not the right wingers that have worked for decades to enable things like this, not the NRA and the gun manufacturers who don't give a damn what people do with their products as long as they make money.  No, it's the victims that belong in hell.

Doug Giles, Town Hall:  "I Went to Bed a Christian and Woke Up a … Terrorist?"

No, Doug, you went to bed a Christian and woke up an asshole.  But of course, that's not news because you were already an asshole before you went to sleep.  Sad to say, these days, "asshole" and "Christian" are pretty much synonymous.  Maybe it's time for the real Christians out there to reclaim the title to that word.

Michael Ledeen, PJ Media:  " Was Benghazi a Honey Pot Trap?  If a lover convinced Stevens to rush to Benghazi, then it might have been a set-up, what we used to call a honey pot trap."

An eight hundred word post without a single shred of evidence that this could possibly be true.  Nothing but a pathetic attempt to keep a nonexistent scandal on life support, from one of the most nauseating warmongers in the country.   They claim to care so much about the four dead people, and here Michael is, smearing the memory of one of them with a vicious lie.

Becky Graebner, PJ Media:  "the Electric Car Isn’t Ready for the American Driver...The automobile of the future is not ready for the consumer who demands freedom."

FREEDOM!  The electric car probably isn't ready for the consumer who demands freedom, because it doesn't have a 30-round magazine.

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "How To Operate Inside A House With an AR-15"

Vital information for the modern American woman.  Has anyone in the country ever saved themselves by "operating" inside a house with an AR-15, or is Katie just hoping to train a whole bunch of patriots like Shawna Forde, who, you may remember, was a border militia member and proud right winger, who used her weapons to commit a home invasion in which two people, including a nine year old girl, were murdered?

Keep Shawna in mind the next time wingnuts
tell you that their women are so much better looking
that liberal women.

This sort of thinking is so disgusting that it just about makes me want to give up on this country.  There is no way to describe how degraded these people are, and yet Katie is allowed on Fox News and is an "editor" at one of the biggest right wing websites in the country, and she is treated as a legitimate political voice.

Star Parker, Town Hall:  "The Predictable Liberal Assault on Ben Carson"

Ben Carson is nothing but a run of the mill right wing hater, and is only getting Star's attention because he is black.  He attacks gays, Obama, national health care, evolution, liberals, etc.  I have to agree with Star that it is predictable that Liberals would be against him; I hope that never changes.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Good Grief… Former Justice of Peace Arrested for Texas Murders – Not Aryan Brotherhood Members...After all of the liberal media hype about the Aryan Brotherhood’s involvement in the murders – a former Justice of the Peace was arrested for the crimes."

Interesting, that Jim Hoft feels the necessity of coming to the defense of the good name of the Aryan Brotherhood.  How dare anyone suspect them of violence?  Well, I guess Jim knows who is on his side.

World Net Daily:  "George W. Bush: People surprised I can read"

Why?  We saw him read My Pet Goat.  Of course, he could have just memorized it like a parrot.

Rick Moran, American Thinker:  "Gun control at work: 4 dead, 21 wounded in Chicago over the weekend"

Right.  Four people killed and 21 wounded with guns, and it's all the fault of gun control.  Man, someone named this guy Moran for a reason.

James A. Lyons, American Thinker:  "Are We Being Compromised by Barack Obama's Murky Past?  Among all the foreign intelligence agencies, Russian intelligence (SVR) has a long history and has made a science of studying the backgrounds of American presidents.  Therefore, we must assume that...it is possible to the point of certainty that, using all their resources and "black-bag" tactics, they have long had the biographical background data that President Obama and his team of lawyers have been so diligent in concealing from the American public."

Not only have they hallucinated endless phony scandals about Obama's background, but they have now decided "to the point of certainty" that Obama is being blackmailed over these phony scandals, by Russian spies.  Everything makes so much sense when you can just make up the facts to suit yourself.

Bob Owens, Gun Jackass:  "It’s “Loss of Freedom” day in New York today, as the blatantly unconstitutional (on both the state and federal levels) NY SAFE Act demands owners of an estimated one million liberty defense arms are told them must register their arms by today… or else.  Only craven cowards will comply with such a blatantly unconstitutional law, just as New York City residents own an estimated two million unregistered arms within the five boroughs, ignoring the tyrant-protecting Sullivan Act.

Will you comply? Or will you retain your sacred liberty?"

Limits on size of magazines...you know, like people waiting for an invasion, I'm starting to really wish these vicious, idiotic, hate filled traitors would start their war against America already, so we could put them down and get back to living decent lives.  And "liberty defense arms."  Give me a break.  That's the most pathetic specimen of jingoism I've ever heard.

Lord Monckton, World Net Daily:  "Ding, dong, the left are savages "

How lucky we are to have someone who can lay out the wingnuts' case in all its glory.  But wait, Lord Monckton is not alone in his ability to reduce complex political concepts to their essentials:

Burt Prelutzky, World Net Daily:  "Obama: Brick-throwing moron"

Burt exlains:

"After all, he was re-elected after the worst first term any president, including Jimmy Carter, has ever overseen."

Forgot about Herbert Hoover there, didn't you, Burt?  And, oh, what was that other guy's name?  Oh yeah, George W. Bush.  Burt, no lies you can ever think up about Obama are going to change the fact that on practically every front, George W. Bush was the worst President in history.  At least Hoover can share the blame for what happened on his watch with the two previous Republican Presidents, Harding and Coolidge.

Peter Ferrara, American Thinker:  "President Obama's Plan for A Socialist One Party State"

And how is the scoundrel going to accomplish that?

"The last check and balance on President Obama is the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. He has made clear that he intends to remove that check on his power in the 2014 elections."

He's going to try to elect Democrats! The evil bastard! How dare he, the traitor?

James Zumwalt, American Thinker:  "Does Kim Know What Lies Ahead?  This child has a gun, and also thinks he's god almighty."

Man, for a minute there I thought he was talking about Dick Cheney.

David Harsanyi, Human Events:  "Who cares what the majority wants on guns?"

Well, at last- an honest conservative:

"In fact, if Washington internalizes the 60-vote threshold as a matter of routine, voters should be grateful. Considering Washington’s propensity to politicize everything and its increasingly centralized power (what your health care looks like is now up for national referendums, for instance), this might be the only way left to diffuse democracy."

And that's what the United States has always been about- "diffusing" democracy.  Well, that's sure the goal of Republicans, but who would think they would admit it in public?

Mike McNally, PJ Media:  "A Stirring Send-Off For the Iron Lady – And No One Missed the Obamas...An unmistakably British send-off for a giant of her age."

Yeah, particularly in Edinborough- a photo of the video broadcast of the Thatcher funeral is shown here:

A stirring outpouring of love, indeed.

Oh God, I'm Going To Be Sick

Right now, Chris Matthews is interviewing Rudy Giuliani, to get his opinion about the Marathon bombing.  We're just lucky that Rudy wasn't running Boston's anti-terrorism program, or its headquarters would have been in the basement of the Tsarnayev's house.

My Apology

When I wrote my post about the endemic nature of Islamic violence around the world a few days ago (yes, before the Boston bombing) I thought of including Chechnya on the list, but I left it off because the situation there was so compromised by nationalism.  I guess I need to give them a star now, and maybe one for Massachusetts too.

What a world.

Sorry, Kim

You're already three crises in the past.

Learn a lesson from this- never underestimate the short attention span of the American people.

A Tale of Two Explosions

Small explosion:

Big explosion:

Here's something you might want to know:

Budget for the Homeland Security Department:  $68.9 billion

Budget for OSHA:  $565 million

Budget for U.S. Chemical Safety Board: $11.4 million (request for next year)

$11.4 million, or less than a tenth of what Sheldon Adelson spent on buying elections this year.  This means that in the last five years, the Chemical Safety board has managed to inspect a grand total of six ammonia plants.

And yet, corporations and their largely Republican tools are constantly campaigning to destroy even these pathetic attempts to protect American workers, absurdly insisting that corporations are perfectly capable of protecting their workers (and are willing to lift a finger to do so.)

We are at war in this country.  We are at war with the greedy, sociopathic monsters who have taken control of most of the world's corporations, and who do us far more damage than terrorist can ever hope to do: mining disasters, oil spills, chemical plant explosions, and the endless round of injuries and deaths at under-regulated factories around the country. Over 4,600 people died on the job in 2011- or just about the number of American soldiers that were killed in the entire Iraq invasion.

And yet, though we managed to come up with over two trillion dollars to invade Iraq, we can't come up with any more than a few million to deal with this ongoing disaster:

"Chemical industry watchdog falls years behind on safety reports for deadly accidents...The number of board accident reports, case studies and safety bulletins has fallen precipitously since 2006...Chairman Rafael Moure-Eraso and managing director Daniel Horowitz say the board, which has a $10.55 million annual budget, is stretched thin.

“We’ve made innumerable proposals over the years … pointing out the significant discrepancy between the number of serious accidents and the ones that we can handle from a practical standpoint,” Horowitz said. Congress, he said, has been unwilling to come up with more money."

We are constantly exposed to this series of atrocities, while corrupt tools of the rich prevent anything being done about it, and while they cram down our throats endless screaming and fear mongering about what are really minor incidents, but which have the power to distract us from the real threats that face Americans in their daily lives.  Nearly 13 people die every day in the United States from industrial accidents, but they mean nothing compared to the three deaths that have the potential to stoke hatred around the country.  Destroying the power of the rich is the true battle for survival that we face, but instead we are going to spend our time obsessing about some jerk with a couple of pressure cookers.

Green Eagle is Very Jumpy

I had trouble getting to sleep last night and I have been jumpy all day.  I've noticed that the music stations I listened to while I was driving around were all playing jumpy music too.  I bet a lot of other people feel the same way.

Well, this is going to be a rant, so I'll try to make it short.  I'm not jumpy because I think I'm going to be blown up the next time I go out in public.  I'm jumpy because I know that we are all going to be forced to live with the deaths of these three people for weeks.  We are going to be bombarded with endless coverage of the Marathon bombing, and endless pontification, which will have exactly zero positive effect, exactly like the same phenomenon after Sandy Hook, after Aurora, after every one of these incidents.

And in the meantime,  thousands of people will be killed with guns in this country every year.  The savaging of the hopes of Americans by the greed and power of the rich will go on.  Mindless warmongers will inevitably force the country into more insane wars.  The same piggish, hate filled, greed maddened people will manage to see to it that our country can never take a step in the right direction.

But we will be so lucky that we will be treated to the spectacle of endless self-righteous lectures about this bombing, from people that don't give a damn about anything but themselves.  Well, that's why I'm in a really bad mood.

Dennis Prager Spouts His Idiocy

Dennis Prager, the most intellectually dishonest talk show host in the country, has helpfully compiled a list of left wing statements from one single professor, under the title of "Is USC Another Left-Wing Seminary?"

Here is what the professor had to say:

"California Republicans [are] really stupid and racist."

" ... Republicans are 82 percent white. Losers."

"The Republican Party in California ... is the last vestige of angry old white people"

"The Republicans are trying to prevent people of color and people of lower income from voting by requiring voter ID."

"We discovered, and this is generally true, the least flexible voter in America, the person who's less likely to change their mind about anything is an old white guy. Old white guys are stubborn sons of bitches."

"There are tens of thousands of people who are now dead because George Bush, even though he got fewer votes, became the president of the United States. That's a fact. ... I think the election got stolen. That's what I think. ... [the Republicans] stole the election. And this happens all the time."

"Probably the biggest vulnerability that Romney has ... [is] that the guy doesn't understand normal human beings."

"All campaigns have a message it communicates to the voters:
[The Democratic message is] "Vote for Obama because he's gonna create jobs and keep the peace and protect social security."
[The Republican message is] "Vote for Romney because Obama is all f----ed up ... "

"The Republican Party is increasingly the last refuge of old, angry white people who don't like what's going on in this country."

Of course, the shameless hack Prager had a fit over this.  I'm not going to go over it point by point- let me just sum it up:

Dennis, everything in the list above is one hundred percent true. Suck on that, you lying right wing pig.

Marathon Bombing: The Winners Are Announced!

At long last, the tension is over!  Green Eagle can finally reveal the names of the winner of the Boston Marathon Bombings Who Can Attack Obama First contest!

But wait! We have a tie here, between two of the highest seeded competitors.  First, from Breitbart News, the ever-dependable Ben Shapiro with this entry:

"Obama Does Not Call Boston Bombings Terrorism"

But in a dead heat with him, the right wing's champion of stupidity, Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit:

"Crazy… Obama Won’t Call Boston Marathon Bomb Blasts a Terrorist Attack"

Yes, in Obama's brief statement today, largely (and appropriately) restricted to discussing the Federal role in the forthcoming investigation, he failed to jump up and down and scream "TERRORISM" at the top of his voice.  He acted like a national leader dealing with a tragedy, not like a paranoid, bloodthirsty jackass only interested in using the incident to spread as much hatred as possible.

How dare he?

Well, congratulations to Ben Shapiro and Jim Hoft for their exemplary work on behalf of Republicans everywhere.  They are now eligible to win the magnificent Green Eagle FREEDOM trophy, an artist's rendering of which is shown below.

A fitting reward, I am sure you will agree.

Update:  I must report that there may be another contender for this award.  Within the first few lines of their online coverage of this tragedy, CNN felt it necessary to tell its readers that "Obama doesn't say 'terror.'"  Our liberal media speak out!

Endemic Islamic Violence- The Sad Reality

This is a very difficult post for me to write, because in the last decade, virtually every negative comment about Islam has been nothing but an outpouring of hatred against Muslims.  This means that any criticism of Islam is immediately (and legitimately) suspect of being nothing but a vicious form of racism.  I have lived in the Middle East, and can assure you that the Muslims that I came in contact with were, without exception decent human beings like the majority of any other people.  Still, there is a serious problem in the Muslim world, and I hope I can write about it without engendering too much hatred.

Here is a map I prepared:

It shows the Muslim world, and on it are marked areas where violence related to Islam has taken place in recent decades.  I could have added a few more, but I think this is enough to make my point.  Here they are:

1. France-Repeated Muslim attacks against non-Muslims, particularly Jews.
2. Balkans- Violence between Muslims and Christians- ongoing for several hundred years.
3. Algeria- Violent conflict between government and Islamic seperatists has claimed 80,000 lives (at least) in last couple of decades.
4. Libya-Islamic violence ongoing.
5. Nigeria- endless series of vicious attacks by Muslim extremist group Boko Haram, on non-Muslims.
6. Sudan- Muslim oppression against non-Muslims has resulted in five million deaths in the last few decades.
7. Eritrea- Ongoing Muslim inspired incidents of violence in this essentially government-less country.
8. Egypt- Government fights against Muslim Brotherhood have resulted in tens of thousands of deaths in recent decades- violence continues against Copts and other non-Muslims under new government.
9. Lebanon- Endless battles between Muslim extremists and Christians, and between Sunnis and Shias continue.
10. Turkey- Muslims struggle to end the Turkish secular tradition and impose Sharia law
11. Syria- Eighty thousand killed recently in fights between dictatorial government and rebels, a large part of whom are Islamic fundamentalists bent on forcing Sharia law on country.
12. Israel- Jews subjected to constant terrorist attacks, including over 12,000 missiles shot into country, and open Muslim attempts to exterminate them.
13- Saudi Arabia- Not much to report here, except that if you are the wrong religion, they just kill you.  Saudi Arabia is the world's greatest financier and exporter of Islamic terrorism, including 18 of the 19 9-11 hijackers.  They mainly make sure it all happens somewhere else, of course.
14. Iran- Financier and backer of Islamic groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, which are responsible for endless acts of violence.  Within the country, violent suppression of anyone who disagrees with the ruling religious orthodoxy.
15. Breakaway Soviet Republics- Frequent acts of oppression, both government inspired and independent, against non-Muslims.
16. Afghanistan- Violent repression of anything that does not conform to Islamic orthodoxy.
17. Pakistan- Also, violent repression of non-Muslims and also Muslims who do not conform to religious orthodoxy; sponsors major terrorist acts in other countries, most notably India.
18. China- A long history of violent seperatist acts from Muslim Uighur community.
19. India- Violent Islamic seperatist movement in Kashmir engages in an endless string of barbarous acts of violence.
20. Burma- Considerable ethnic violence between Muslims and Hindus- this may be one case where the other side is at least as much to blame as Muslims, who seem to be getting the worst of this fight, at least at this point.
21. Indonesia- Violent Muslim attacks against non-Muslims continue to occur sporadically, initiated in the 19th century by an influx of Wahabist clerics from Saudi Arabia.
22. Phillipines- Regular outbreaks of violence over several decades, perpetrated by Muslim separatists in the South of the country.

Well, maybe people will accuse me of imagining things, but this is just too much for me to write it off.  The belief among many Muslims, descending from the words and deeds of Mohammed himself, that they have a right to violently force others to live according to their rules, is real, and it is having disastrous consequences around the world.

Yes, we have similar Christian fanatics in our country, and our public figures deserve much criticism for not standing up to their irrational hatred. Even Israel is burdened with a number of Orthodox Jews who are easily as crazy as the world's Christian and Islamic fringe. But at this point in time, Muslim fanaticism poses a vital threat to world stability; Christian fanaticism is largely a pathetic sideshow, and Jewish fanaticism is little more than a joke.  I don't have a clue how the sizable fraction of the world's one billion Muslims who buy into this sort of thinking can ever be persuaded to abandon their self-righteous attitudes, but until they do, we are going to be faced with endless situations like the 22 I outlined above.  And with the proliferation of nuclear weapons to irresponsible and unstable countries like Pakistan, it is only a matter of time before what is presently an irritant becomes a tragedy of truly monumental proportions.

Wingnut Wrapup

Stories I won't be covering:  Dr. Kermit Gosnell.  This guy seems to be a truly malignant human being who is on trial for committing numerous murders of live babies at his "abortion" practice before it was closed in 2011.  He's now on trial for multiple counts of murder.  After ignoring this case for two years, the wingnut blogosphere has erupted in stories about it.  A sample of ten of my most followed right wing blogs today reveals 62 stories about this case, screaming about the mainstream media for not covering a story which they themselves utterly ignored until a few days ago.  This is a classic example of the right wing echo chamber in action, churning out endless outrage on the scandal of the day.

I'm hardly going to defend Gosnell, considering what he seems to have done, so I'll just leave it there.  On to the rest of the wingnuts:

Daniel J. Mitchell, Town Hall:  "Why Are Young Americans Supportive of Obama When His Policies Are So Bad for Them?"

Why can't we bang it through their heads that the Iraq war, the economic collapse and the tax giveaways to rich people that happened during the Bush administration are all Obama's fault?  What's the matter with kids these days?  I mean, do they really think that having health care is a decent substitute for getting to pay for a failed war?

Heather Ginsberg, Town Hall:  "Hundreds of Texas Educators Take Free Concealed Handgun Class"

Texas.  What else can you say?

Mike Shedlock, Town Hall:  "Canada Unexpectedly Sheds 54,500 Jobs in March; Worst Job Loss in 4 Years; Canadian Dollar Tumbles "

As most of the commenters on this news are happy to point out, this is Obama's fault.

John Ransom, Town Hall:  "Charge Pot Use Off to Obamacare and You"

Marijuana?  That's Obama's fault also.

Moe Lane, Red State:  "Barack Obama blames US Navy for increased North Korean tensions."

I can't even explain this one to you.  It's either a complete lie or the results of way too much cheap whiskey.  Here's the explanation from Moe:

"So, it’s the Navy’s fault that the U.S.-North Korea spat has gone so far?  That’s the apparent message from senior administration officials who, according to the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, said that they had long planned to send B-52s, B-2 stealth bombers, and F-22 fighters to the Korean Peninsula as part of preplanned wargames with South Korea, but that they had not planned the recent deployment of Navy destroyers.  Last weekend, the U.S. ordered two guided-missile destroyers to the Western Pacific — the U.S.S. John S. McCain and the U.S.S. Decatur — to provide additional defense against North Korean ballistic missiles."

I can't even begin to understand the "logic" behind this one.  I guess anything that blames Obama for anything will be swallowed whole by right wingers.  I'm surprised I didn't see any right wing posts today blaming him for running out on the floor and injuring Kobe Bryant in last night's game.

Rachel Alexander, Town Hall:  "Sanford and Other Toxic Republicans Need to Step Aside for Electable Republicans"

And I am sure they will too, as soon as someone finds some electable Republicans.  Right now, they are in pretty short supply.

Bob Owens, Gun toting jackass:  " No, the Syrian rebels are not fielding AS-50 sniper rifles. Just more commie crap.  A Fox News story—among others—is claiming that Syrian rebel forces have acquired the AS-50 sniper rifle, “a favorite of Navy SEALs,” and video game fan boys everywhere.  The thing is, the video doesn’t support that claim, and points to another cheaper, less accurate rifle instead."

Apparently, Fox News are now Commies too.

Sylvia Thompson, Renew America:  "Marriage cannot be adequately supported outside of Scriptures...the Bible is that unassailable basis."

Man, I feel sorry for all of those Buddhists and Hindus and Shintoists, etc.  They've been living in sin for about eight thousand years.

Now, Conservative projection at its finest:

Repair Man Jack, Red State:  "Baby-Killers Are Nation-Killers As Well...Children are tough on the Me First Society. They expect to be fed or something. They take and take and take and rarely before their 21st birthday do you start getting that ROI. Once you’ve killed God and gone down the solipsistic wormhole far enough, they become parasites, aliens in a universe populated by only Me, Myself and I."

This from the half of the political spectrum for which the entire goal of life is "cut my taxes," and which erupts in violent hatred at the very idea of the government spending a penny on anyone but themselves.

Roger Kimball, PJ Media:  "Why They Hated Margaret Thatcher...She won the battle against the totalitarian temptation"

Ha.  That's a laugh.  They hated her because she destroyed the British economy.  And they still hate her because it has never recovered.  There's a reason why this 74 year old song has just risen to the top of the pop charts in England:

James simpson, World Net Daily:  "New danger: Police declaring war on citizens"

Man, I didn't even know that police could declare war.  I thought only Congress could do that.  Anyway, the main substance of this story seems to be an account of a company that was raided by police after three IRS audits.  It goes on and on for thousands of words. And it still doesn't make a shred of sense.

You still don't know the truth about whether the universe is older than 6000 years.

And the Crocodile Tears of the Week award:

John Piccione, Daily Caller:  "Gun bill championed by Democrats sharply limits rights of gay gun owners"

Sure, that's what you are so upset about, John.  The rights of gay people.  The rights of them to further enrich gun companies.

Breitbart News:  "Judge Jeanine on Texas DA Murders: Drug Profit, Not White Supremacy, Motivates Aryan Brotherhood"

That's why they named themselves the Aryan Brotherhood, I guess, instead of the Crystal Meth Brotherhood.  Because what is more Aryan than manufacturing crystal meth?  No way they could be right wingers.

John Sexton, Breitbart News:  "Melissa Harris-Perry Wants Us to Spend More Educating 'Our' Children"

The outrage!  How will we ever have enough money left for another war of aggression, the next time the Republicans are in charge?

David Limbaugh,  Town Hall:  "What right-minded person can deny the current uncanny applicability of the admonition by the Prophet Isaiah, uttered some 2,700 years ago, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness"?"

Well, given that this remark means just about noting, it's hard to deny it.  What I can deny, however, is that it is Democrats who are calling evil good and good evil.  That's the specialty of right wingers, when they hate the poor and favor the rich.

Kathy Shaidle, PJ Media:  "I’ve asked movie and music industry insiders to explain their respective businesses to me, and never end up any smarter than I start out.

As you’ve likely guessed, the bloated, ever-evolving technology required to bring those Jurassic Park raptors to virtual life is so costly, it burdens production companies with insurmountable debt.  We often read about how many weeks or months — or even years — it takes to create glossy special effects that last only seconds on screen.  Is that really a sound business model or a smart, efficient way to make anything?"

Having spent a career in film production, let me remind you of something.  It's not Hollywood's job to make you smarter, Kathy.  Our job is to make you dumber than when you started out.  Hard as it may be to believe in your case, I think we've accomplished our mission.  And by the way, Jurassic Park grossed $362 million, way back in the nineties, and is still the 16th largest grossing movie in history.  So I guess it is a sound business model.  Compare it to your recent Conservative blockbuster, Atlas Shrugged Part I, which grossed $4.7 million.  I guess you could have used some special effects or something on that one.

Garth Kant, World Net Daily:  "Palin, Beck flip out over MSNBC ad... Glenn Beck pointed out that the MSNBC network promo is not just some gaffe by a host or panelist.  “This is something that people thought about,” he said."

They thought about it.  Well, no wonder it upset Palin and Beck.

Joseph Farah, World Net Daily:  "Why does Obama fear armed citizenry?"

Why do you think, jerk?

And now, right wing empathy at its finest:

Michelle Malkin, Town Hall:  "No Tears for Lynne Stewart...The jihadists' favorite American lawyer, Lynne Stewart, reportedly has stage-4 breast cancer."

In case you don't remember, Lynne Stewart defended some Islamic fundamentalists.  She used her position as their lawyer to smuggle communications from them out of their prison, and was convicted and sent to jail.  I, for one, have no problem with that.  Michelle Malkin, however, is absolutely gleeful that this woman is dying a horrible death.  Pretty much par for the course with right wingers.

Michael Brown, Town Hall:  "Buy a Decongestant, Show ID; Buy an Abortion Pill, No ID"

You can't make methamphetamine out of abortion pills, dumbass.  You forgot to mention that, didn't you?

Erick Erickson, Red State:  "The Toomey-Manchin Proposal Will Allow Doctors to Block Your Right to Guns"

That's right, if doctors decide that you are a paranoid schizophrenic, they could take away your right to own a gun!  They could steal your FREEDOM!!!  Your freedom to enrich gun manufacturers in particular.  No one can be denied the right to own guns, even if they are stark raving loony!  Why, George Washington said in his third inaugural address "None of us is FREE unless crazy people can have all the automatic weapons they want!  FREEDOM!!!"  Well, no he didn't, but now that it is on the internet, this quote will appear in approximately five hundred right wing blogs by next Tuesday.  Because the second amendment is all about making sure that the least responsible people in the country can have all the guns they want.  FREEDOM, I tell you, FREEDOM!

CNN:  "Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea.  “We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide."

Well, I am sure they appreciated the deeply thought out analysis from Cheney.  And I must admit that if anyone knows from personal experience when our country is in deep military doo doo, it would be Dick Cheney.

Dick in one of his thoughtful moods

"One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida, said Cheney "looked really good, spoke really clearly, lucidly.”

Well, that is comforting.  This, apparently, is the Republican standard for lucid thought- a seventy year old man who was Vice President of the United States, talking about "doo doo."  No wonder none of them noticed when Reagan got Alzheimer's disease.

Whatafly For You:  "Apparently after centuries of quarrels and actions more or less dreadful, the Vatican, the aliens and UFOs have made a joint agreement."

Well, glad to hear they've worked it out.  Now, if they can just get together with the Texas Militia, they're set.

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "If presidential politics ever involved time travel, President Obama might be in a little trouble. If an election between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama were held today, 58% would vote for Reagan over Obama"

Great!  Next time run Reagan.  Because you don't have any live people who could win.  You have to lie about your guys for thirty years before you can get people to like them.

And now, just in case you didn't have enough to worry about today:

And then what, make lampshades out of them?  But wait, there's more:

The word "racist."  The pen really is mightier than the sword.  And oh heck, let's just end with a little more sputtering nonsense from Mary:

"April 12, 2013  WASHINGTON  -- Black-racist Queer,  Obama , named KILL THE WHITES Jew, Eric P. Schwartz, a Jew-operator for Israel at the Marxist-University of Minnesota, to the Commission on International Religious Freedom to attack Christianity.
Jew=Schwartz, a White-hating Nazi, is on the boards of the Jew Immigrant Aid Society and of the Jew Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, was among several KILL ALL WHITES announced Thursday by Queer=Obama."

Whatever, Mary...

And let's not forget this horrible fact:

Andrew Anglin, Total Fascism:  "Jews Pushing Hate Propaganda Against Asians...When we see these Jews drumming up hate propaganda against the Asians, we should surely take note, and ask just what it is these sneaky Jews are up to."

This story is helpfully illustrated with the following:

Mysterious Mr. Moto
was made in 1938.  Here's the synopsis, from IMDB:

"Mr. Moto has himself imprisoned on Devil's Island so he can help his cellmate (Ames) escape and thereby get the goods on a gang of international killers."

When those Jews decide to launch a hate campaign against Asians, I guess they make it really subtle.  And plan it way in advance, too.
