Good Idea, John

John Bolton at CPAC: "President Obama is the most radical president we have ever elected in this country." Bolton Told CPAC. God, I hope so, John.

Mr. Obama, You're Wrong about This One

From the AP this morning: "We can no longer sustain 21st century markets with 20th century regulation," Obama said after meeting with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and the chairmen and top Republicans of the two House and Senate committees charged with writing new regulatory legislation. Mr. Obama, that is incorrect. 20th century regulation did just fine to sustain the markets, from the 1930's to the 1980's. What cannot sustain 21st century markets is no regulation at all- the great Republican dream. Thanks again, Ronnie.

Can America not see?

Can America not see what Satan has done to it? Can America not see what Satan plans on doing to it? I plead with each of you to open your eyes to the glory of God. I plead with you to throw open the window of your heart to listen to the quiet still voice of God. The salvation of mankind does not come from the welfare programs of the federal government. Salvation comes from the hand of God. As a servant of the Creator on High, I and this diocese will continue to stand firm against Satan's Stimulus Program. Enjoyed that tasty little morsel? The rest of this wonderfully reasoned argument can be found here. I must credit World-O Crap for bringing this to the world's attention.

I fought the Law and the Law Won.

If you think there are some wacky wingnut responses to Obama's speech yesterday, you should take a look at some of the thinking of the sad, leftover PUMAs. Yes, some of them are still out there, struggling and failing to deal with reality. Here is a sample, from the now somewhat ludicrously named site "Hillary is 44" . You go, girls. Talk about pathetic.

Kristol- What do you Expect?

Bill Kristol in the Washington Post today (as a NYT subscriber, thanks so much guys for taking him off our hands): You’d never know from the one-sentence discussion of Afghanistan that just last week the president had ordered an additional 17,000 troops there. Obama doesn’t seem to think his responsibility as commander in chief is in any way special. He certainly felt no responsibility even to begin to educate the public about this theater to which he’s committing additional American soldiers. Bill, that would be the way that your man George Bush "educated" the public about the weapons of mass destruction, or Saddam's intimate connection with Osama? God, you must be seventy years old. Grow up, already, please.

K-Lo, do you guys have to lie about Everything?

THE CORNER Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Jindal [ Kathryn Jean Lopez ] does exude a practical hope, rooted in things that work. And he forces the point that politics should be about ideas — competing ideas — and that the best ones should win. You can tell, though, that he's used to just speaking (because he can) and not delivering prepared speeches. UPDATE: The MSNBC commentators look very unhappy and Rachel Maddow was speechless. Really, can't you get through four sentences without lying? Rachel Maddow wasn't speechless because Bobby Jindal was so wonderful. She said she was speechless because Jindal was stupid enough to bring up the Bush Administration's response to Hurricane Katrina as an example of how government doesn't work. P.S.: the MSNBC commentators did not look one bit unhappy. Go on living in your dream world- it's the only one you've got left, you malicious fools.

Speech

I know that my specialty on this blog is unrelenting bitter sarcasm, but I must lay that aside for a second. I have not always been as impressed with Obama's speeches as some others, but this speech tonight was a historic masterpiece. A great, great speech that I believe will be remembered for years. If you watched the graphs below him on MSNBC, you saw that the overwhelming majority of Americans saw how great this was. And, Bobby Jindal: pathetic.

....Madness

OSLO (Reuters) – Jagged mountains the size of the Alps have been found entombed in Antarctica 's ice, giving new clues about the vast ice sheet that will raise world sea levels if even a fraction of it melts, scientists said on Tuesday. Any signs of the shoggoths, yet?

Pathetic

A headline I just noticed on TPM: " Macy's Beats Expectations With 59% Drop In Profit " Boy, that's comforting.

I Hope So

(CNN) — The mainstream media made it a mission to destroy the vice presidential candidacy of Sarah Palin, the Alaska governor says in a new documentary released Monday. Sarah, I hope you're right- it would show that they had at least some concern for the welfare of our country. Sadly, like just about everything you say, I doubt that it's true.

Oh Bristol, Say what you Mean

So, Bristol Palin says: “Everyone should be abstinent, but it’s just not realistic at all...", and of course it's only a couple of days before the Republicans have someone out there saying that that means that Bristol Palin believes that abstinence IS realistic. You know women- when they say no, they really mean yes.

A Great Idea, Guys!

From today's Washington Times: "The millionaires and billionaires who feed the conservative think tanks and underwrite those who run for office need to join their high-rolling liberal brethren like Barry Diller and David Geffen and realize their political dollars are better spent making movies and nurturing the culture." What a wonderful idea! As someone who has spent the better part of my life working right here in Hollywood, there is one thing I know- there is no faster way to part a fool and his money than getting him to "produce" movies. So, go for it- you all obviously have too much time and money on your hands.
Our wonderful right wing friends have come alive with a call to REVOLUTION! The time to overthrow our horrible tyrranical government is here! I won't waste your time with examples of their literary genius; Glenn Beck's recent tirade on Fox News will serve as a fair example. As Glenn Greenwald puts it: "....he convened a panel that includes former CIA officer Michael Scheuer and Ret. U.S. Army Sgt. Major Tim Strong. They discuss a coming "civil war" led by American "Bubba" militias -- Beck says he "believes we're on this road" -- and they contemplate whether the U.S. military would follow the President's orders to subdue civil unrest or would instead join with "the people" in defense of their Constitutional rights against the Government (they agree that the U.S. military would be with "the people")...." Well, isn't that special. This is just the latest reiteration of the right's long time fantasy of a

A Sad Pocket of Unemployment

I read: "While the market for job-seekers in the United States might be sour, for most it isn't as impenetrable as it is for the nearly 3,000 former members of the Bush administration. Between 70-75 percent who are looking for full-time work still haven't found new jobs , according to a Saturday report by the Wall St. Journal ." Gee, how tough. I've heard about a few Detroit Lions that aren't doing that well on the job market either.

Humane Treatment

From Yahoo: "WASHINGTON – The Pentagon says the Guantanamo Bay prison meets the standard for humane treatment laid out in the Geneva Conventions , according to a report for President Barack Obama , who has ordered the terrorist detention center closed within a year." Guys, I hate to tell you this, but when ninety percent of them are innocent, you could put them up at the Four Seasons for seven years, and it would still not be humane treatment.

Roland Burris

Roland Burris. You know, I don't give a damn about the guy, but could he do any more to make Harry Reid look like the incompetent loser that he is? Harry, (long past) time for you to go.

On, Michelle!

Michelle Bachman, today, among other equally malicious lies: "the stimulus bill includes a measure to create a "rationing board" for health care, and after the bill becomes law, "your doctor will no longer be able to make your healthcare decisions with you." Leaving aside the fact that you know that this remark is false, Michelle, what in God's name do you think the insurance companies are doing right now? Talk about Gerrymandering. How did they manage to put so many stupid voters in one congressional district?

Impeach Arnold

Remember when the Governator-led forces managed to drive Grey Davis out of office due to a $15 billion budget shortfall? It wasn't that long ago. Now that the California budget deficit has reached $42 billion, and the jerk can't even get his own party to stop playing the dirtiest of politics over the issue, don't you think it's time that we see the last of him? I'm sure the conservatives will be right on this, as soon as they finish their main job- causing another depression. Actually, I like Arnold. I worked on one movie with him. He's smart, a good listener and a decisive and very strong decision maker. He has everything you need to be a good manager. But, live by the sword, die by the sword, in this case.

A Little Too Much Truth

Republican J. D. Hayworth on Hardball last night: Hayworth: No, I'll tell you what was bad. The sneak attack on our economy, the dress rehearsal of Indy bank, when Chuck Schumer helped get that started and the guy in the background George Soros manipulating all the currency. Matthews: What? Hayworth: You want to keep that going? Matthews: You mean the economic situation we faced right now...JD you can talk fast but I don't know what you're talking about. Can you guess what Schumer and Soros have in common? I am not sure that I am remembering this correctly, but I have a vague memory that Hayworth is not the first right winger to accuse the Jews of manipulating currency and attacking a nation's economy. Well, the more things change.....

Judd Gregg and the Republican Betrayal Du Jour

The minute I heard about Judd Gregg's withdrawal, here is what I thought: The Republicans are so petrified at the idea that Obama was about to win a huge victory on the stimulus, that they were desperate to push the fact out of the news; or shall I say desperate to give their lickspittle collaborators in the mainstream press an excuse to ignore Obama's success. So, it appears, after "meeting" with Republican leaders, Gregg suddenly discovers that he just can't violate his deep moral scruples by working with Obama to help stave off a depression. Thus, this man destroys his thirty year career to give his party some sort of two day advantage in its attempts to sabotage Obama. I've been reading about Stalingrad lately. This sort of reminds me of the way Hitler ordered the Sixth Army to stay and die there, rather than pull back, sacrificing a couple of hundred thousand troops rather than take a hit to his own ego. That's the way the right wing operates. It

Another Comrade for Herr Adolf (see below)

The Columbus Post-Dispatch provides us with this amusing comment: "U.S. Rep. Steve Austria said he supports a scaled-down federal economic-stimulus proposal, but the Beavercreek Republican told The Dispatch editorial board that the huge influx of money into the economy could have a negative effect. "When (President Franklin) Roosevelt did this, he put our country into a Great Depression," Austria said. "He tried to borrow and spend, he tried to use the Keynesian approach, and our country ended up in a Great Depression. That's just history." Oh, Ohio, where do you get these people?

Roosevelt- Another Voice of "Reason"

Boy, have we heard a lot lately about how Roosevelt and the New Deal did nothing to end the depression, and may, in fact have caused it (3 years before Roosevelt became President). Well, I came across the following statement by a major political leader supporting this view. It's important to have all major parties speak out on this issue, so here it is: "Roosevelt's New Deal legislation was all wrong. There can be no doubt that a continuation of this economic policy would have undone the President in peacetime, in spite of all his dialectical skill. In a European state he would surely have come eventually before a state court on a charge of deliberate waste of the national wealth; and he would scarcely have escaped at the hands of a civil court on a charge of criminal business methods. This fact was realized and fully appreciated by many Americans, including some of high standing. A threatening opposition was gathering over the head of this man. He guessed that the
