Self Reliance Conservative Style

Remember Richard Mack, the lunatic former Sheriff who joined Cliven Bundy and was the one who came up with the idea of putting all the women and children down front so they would be killed first? Well, here are the top two items from Mr. Mack's website today:

"Decisions from Sheriff Mack's lawsuit against the Clinton administration being used to block Obamacare
On December 9, 2013 reported that South Carolina is very close to passing HB 3101, which nullifies Obamacare for SC citizens and businesses. If the bill passes, South Carolina will be the first state to take this courageous and very appropriate stand against this most destructive and abusive and yes, unconstitutional statute!"

"Family members and other supporters start a GoFundMe campaign for Richard & Dawn Mack
In November of 2014, Richard Mack's wife Dawn was hospitalized with serious medical issues. Then, in early January of 2015, Richard suffered a heart attack that required surgery. Because they are self-employed, they have no medical insurance and are in desperate need of our assistance."

I do not believe any comment on this is necessary.

Bye Bye Democracy

Here's a report on the annual survey of world elections by Harvard University and the University of Sydney, which pretty much reports what anyone could have predicted.  I should mention at the outset that this article is from Brad Friedman, who has chronicled the degeneration of the American electoral system for as long as I can remember, and who is, accordingly, totally marginalized by the mainstream press:

"U.S. 'Electoral Integrity' Ranked 45th Among 107 Nations, 'Worst of Established Democracies'...[C]ontests in the United States scored the worst performance among any long-established democracy. Hence the 2012 Presidential elections was ranked 42nd worldwide, while the 2014 mid-term Congressional races was ranked 45th, similar to Colombia and Bulgaria. One reason is that experts expressed growing concern over US electoral laws and processes of voter registration, both areas of heated partisan debate."

Columbia or Bulgaria.  I don't think I am being unfair to state that this outcome is pretty much the equivalent of having no democracy at all.  And this survey does not seem to take into effect the coming tsunami of money being poured into the electoral system where, as you know, one source alone- the Koch brothers- is slated to spend as much as either one of the two political parties in the next Presidential election.

I want to make it clear that this is not some sort of horrid accident.  It is the result of a conscious, decades-long campaign by one of the two American political parties to destroy any input from the American people concerning who rules them.  It is now possible to run successful campaigns in this country with the financing of one or two rich people, totally eliminate the participation of 99.999% of the rest of us, except in a political dog and pony show designed to ape the appearance of fair elections.

And let me be clear about what caused this low ranking:

according to the new report, the project's "concept of 'electoral integrity' refers to international standards and global norms governing the appropriate conduct of elections."

...The November 2014 Congressional elections got poor grades because experts were concerned about the electoral laws, voter registration, the process of drawing district boundaries, as well as regulation of campaign finance."
The study cites U.S. voter registration, "in particular", as a concern. It cites new laws regarding access to the polls as "increasingly polarized and litigious...ever since the 2000 'Florida' debacle, generating growing controversy in state-houses and the courts."
"America also suffers from exceptionally partisan and decentralized arrangements for electoral administration," according to the study, which finds that recent Supreme Court decisions "suggest that the role of money in American politics deserves more detailed scrutiny."

In other words, the concerns of this study were regarding Republican voter suppression efforts.  The issue of the Citizens' United decision has not even really been factored into the mix.  If it had, the US ranking would have been even lower, clearly falling where it now belongs, in the category of no democracy at all, or to be more blunt, a fascist oligarchy.

But this is AMERICA, The Greatest Country In The History Of The World, and if you claim there is one single thing wrong with AMERICA, we will scream you down with a tide of abuse which will shut you up forever.

No public education, no health care, no environmental protections of any kind, no provision for what happens to you when you are too old or sick to make money for your boss, and wages low enough to barely keep you from starvation: this is all just around the corner in this country.  And virtually no one on either side seems to care.  So much for family values; most Americans care more for their hatred and their greed than they do for their children.  And they are going to get just what their piggish, disgusting attitudes have earned them.  It's just too bad that those of us who care for what this country used to be are going to get it too.

I Don't Love America

I don't love the country that slaughtered two million civilians in a war of aggression against Vietnam, and four decades later still refuses to face up to the largest mass murder since the Nazis.

I don't love the country that invaded an innocent country in the Middle East, killing another half million civilians and creating murderous chaos, based on lies and racial hatred.

I don't love the country that has made a handful of rich sociopaths more powerful than all of the rest of us.

I don't love the country that will let millions go without health care in order to increase the income of a for-profit medical system.

I don't love the country where, apparently any white police officer can kill any black guy without consequences (and in more and more Republican States, any white guy at all.)

I don't love the country that tortures.

I don't love the country that is deliberately letting the entire world descend into ecological disaster in order to enhance the profits of a few energy companies.

I don't love the country where five corrupt Supreme Court justices are destroying democracy in order to hand the running of the government over to a few hundred rich criminals.

I don't love the country where one of the political parties spends half its time agitating for more vicious, totally unjustified wars, and the other half of its time pandering to the most ignorant, hate-filled people they can find.

I don't love the country that has, over the last century, intervened militarily and through subversion, in dozens of supposedly sovereign states around the world, with the result inevitably being catastrophe.

I don't love the country that enables 90% of its press to be owned by six huge corporations.

You know, I could go on all day here.  When people persist in this sort of "love" in their personal lives, they are called codependents or, perhaps more to the point, victims or suckers.  Luckily, most of the bad boyfriends or girlfriends we know don't have the power to kill millions, or even the whole human race.  But the country that we are angrily instructed to love does have that power.  And as long as it uses it the way the United States does, I just don't see what is there to love.

Wingnut Wrapup

And let's just start out with the most incoherent attack on Obama I've seen lately:

John Ransom, Town Hall:  "While ISIS conducts a pogrom in the Middle East on groups like Jews and Christians with whom it disagrees, the Obama administration has transferred their domestic political pogrom on jobs to the black hooded terrorist army."

Huh?  I guess he is trying to say that Obama is somehow like ISIS, because he is conducting a "pogrom" on jobs.  The statistics on this vicious pogrom can be seen in this chart:

or this one:

Mr. Ransom somehow forgot to mention that Obama's pogrom on jobs has actually generated over 11 million jobs.  Just an accident, I guess.

Cortney O'Brien, Town Hall:  "Ethics Go Out the Door as Clinton Foundation Accepts Foreign Funds"

No real scandal?  Then let's make up a fake one:  The Clinton Foundation is a charity.  None of the money goes to the Clintons themselves, or to Hillary's campaign.

Leon H. Wolf, Red State:  "Reminder: Democrats Hate Guns and Gun Owners"

What precipitated this rant?  Well, some lady with a concealed permit from Pennsylvania got arrested in New Jersey for carrying a concealed weapon.  So Republicans are trying to pass a bill forcing all States to recognize other States' concealed carry permit.  Democrats are against this.  How fast the entire 150 year history of States' rights goes out the window as soon as Republicans want to pander to gun manufacturers (or anyone else with a whole lot of money, really.)

Erick Erickson, Red State:  "The Line Between Islamic Extremists and Gay Rights Extremists...We have another life targeted for destruction by the gay rights community. Barronelle Stutzman, an evangelical Christian, declined to provide flowers for the homosexual wedding of a long time customer of hers. The customer was gay and, again, a long time customer. Barronelle Stutzman is now going to lose her business, her life savings, and possibly her own home for putting her faith into practice. Both her customer and the State of Oregon are taking everything she has for not bowing at the altar of sexual sin."

Because buying flowers is exactly the same as cutting people's heads off and burning them to death.

And now, how about a relatively long  journey into the world of right wing malice?

Roger L. Simon, PJ Media: "Is Obama a Manchurian Candidate? I can’t believe I’m actually asking if Obama is a Manchurian candidate."

I'm not saying, I'm just asking, you see.  Well, back to the crazy:

I am so NOT into conspiracy theories.  For me, it was always  Oswald with the Mannlicher-Carcano in the Texas School Book Depository.  The only conspiracy I ever believed in was the Black Sox Scandal.  And yet… and yet….

No, I still don’t believe it. It’s simply not true.  Barack Obama is not the Manchurian candidate. That’s just an excuse. The only problem is…

"He’s worse.  He’s far worse.  Barack Obama doesn’t have to be a Manchurian candidate.  He can and is doing more damage without being one.  A Manchurian candidate could be exposed (yes, and possibly could not).  Barack Obama doesn’t need that.  He and the media and the brainwashed public that elected him are destroying our country (and the West) all by themselves.   We have the next thing to a jihadist in the White House."

It's getting near the end of Obama's Presidency and they still haven't found anything to impeach him for, so it is inevitable that they are going to get more and more shrill as their window of opportunity slams shut on their fingers.

Michael Walsh, PJ Media:  "Another Lefty Tries Shooting and Discovers — Surprise! — It’s Fun"

Michael, the problem isn't shooting.  It's when you start shooting at people.  And when that gets fun, you know you are a Conservative.

Rev. Austin Myles, Renew America:  "Obama's finger prints on beheading knives... While Obama plays golf and apologizes for America, the Muslims committed yet another atrocity aimed specifically at Christians."

Thanks, Obama.  Everything is your fault.  Of course, ISIS would not exist if Bush had not invaded Iraq, but that was a long time ago, so let's just forget about it, huh?

Paul Bond, Hollywood Reporter:  "Former 'SNL' Actress Victoria Jackson on Political Bias at Anniversary Show: "Is Lorne Ashamed of Me?"...she was the only castmember at Sunday's event to be banished to an overflow room."

I'll tell you what: If Lorne Michaels isn't ashamed of this disgusting right wing racist hater, he's crazy too.  He should be grossly apologetic about having given her a national platform.  Watch as much as you can stand, to see why:

Newsmax:  "Allen West: Obama, Hillary Clinton helped strengthen ISIS "

You know who is really strengthening ISIS?  Allen West and everyone like him who spend their days proving to the members of ISIS that people in the west hate them and want to destroy their religion, thereby showing that their propaganda is based on facts, not lies.

World Net Daily:  "Hideous creature is for real, and it bites! "

And what's more, it gets drunk and shoots people in the face.

Ann Coulter, World Net Daily:  "GOP: DOUBLE-CROSSING TRAITORS"

Finally!  Finally she admits it!...Oh, wait- they are double crossing traitors because they weren't piggish and self-serving enough.  Okay, never mind.

John C. Goodman, Town Hall:  "Obamacare Is Destroying Health Insurance"

By giving it to millions of people.  Mr. Goodman cites a few undoubtedly phony anecdotes (they always are phony) and ignores the 11 million newly insured, and 30 million helped by provisions in the Obamacare law.  Even his anecdotes, of people who supposedly had trouble getting treatment, don't seem to have much connection to Obamacare, but then none of their attacks ever do, because, surprise, wingnuts- it's working.

Michael Loftus, Town Hall:  "How Not to get Killed by the Cops:  "Don’t do anything that would make a policeman want to kill you.”

Like being black.

Daniel J. Mitchell, Town Hall: Green Energy, Corruption, Reform Conservatism, and the Size of Government... the entire green-energy racket is a sleazy boondoggle."

As opposed, say, to the oil business.

Streiff, Red State:  "Tell Congress to stop Department of Labor bullying"

And what is this horrible bullying?  It involves penalizing businesses that refuse to pay their workers the minimum wage.  Bullying!  Despite the law, and basic human decency, these businesses should be able to do whatever they damned please, and if the government does anything about it, it's bullying.  Conservatism in a nutshell.

And now, no trouble getting tickets for this one, I bet:

Nathan Lichtman, PJ Media:  "Finally, a Conservative Hollywood Award Show"

Can boredom actually kill?  We are about to find out.

PJ Media:  "Watch as Christian Pharmacist Shoots and Kills Armed Robber"

No thanks.  But maybe this video will be up for an award at the Conservative Hollywood Awards Show.

Bridget Johnson, PJ Media:  "Saudi Cleric Says Earth Can’t be Rotating..."

They hate science- yet another way that Saudi Clerics are just like our own right wingers.

Tom Blumer, PJ Media:  "The Economy’s Worst 8-Year Run in 62 Years...With two more rough years on the horizon."

Helpfully illustrated with a picture of Obama, and carefully selected to include the time the Bush administration crushed the economy almost to death, tacked onto the 68 months of job growth under Obama.

And now, just a little more fake history of the Nazis, courtesy of their brothers on the American right:

David P. Goldman, PJ Media:  "If Only Germany Had Solved Its Unemployment Problem in 1933, Germans Wouldn’t Have Become Nazis"

Sorry, you ignorant fool, Hitler took over the government in January of 1933, so even if every single person in Germany got a job in 1933, they still would have had the Nazis.  Try learning a little something before shooting your mouth off.  Too much to ask?  Well, I figured as much.

Jim "Dim Bulb" Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "BREAKING: Video Shows Houthi Rebel Taking Off in Yemeni Air Force Jet"

And here's a screen capture from the video:

Jim, I don't know how to break this to you gently, but planes that have propellers are not jets.  That is actually a well known fact. Not that facts mean anything to Jim Hoft, as he has proven about thirty five thousand times.  Once again, Jim proves why he retains his title as "the dumbest man on the internet" despite mighty challenges every day.

Gateway Pundit:  "Move Over Islamic Terrorists – Obama Leaks DHS Report To Lib Media, Claims To Finally Find Right-Wing Terrorists"

"Leaks" being shorthand for "releases any information we don't want to hear."  This article claims that Sovereign Citizens are actually liberals, despite the fact, documented here at Green Eagle over and over again, that they are a product of hard right white supremacists.

Sher Zieve, Renew America:  "Obama readying USA for Islamic takeover?"

Hey, Sher, last year it was the Communists.  Make up your mind already.

Tim Dunkin, Renew America:  "A proposed constitutional amendment for reining in judges"

And here it is, at least part of it:

"All judges who have been nominated by the President and duly confirmed by the Senate to sit on any inferior Court established by Congress shall be liable for re-affirmation every second year by a vote of the people comprising their particular district over which their Court is convened. Should any judge be removed from office by such a vote of the people of their district, the vacant seat will be filled following the process already delineated in this Constitution.

"Any judge who is removed from office by a vote of the people shall henceforth be ineligible to hold any other position on any Court in the federal judiciary at any level..."

Tim, you are way too wordy here.  Let me reword your amendment for you:

"No judge shall serve on any Federal court unless he can get enough money from the Koch brothers to win an election.  And if the Koch brothers use their money to campaign against him, he shall be forever ruled unqualified to be a Federal judge."

There. That's much clearer, right?

Reverend Austin Myles, Renew America:  "Obama's solution--send social workers to ISIS"

Reverend, I'd love to have you document that one.  Somehow, I think you are stretching the truth there a little.  Unless social workers are riding along on those drones that are bombing them.

Pam Key, Breitbart:  "Sunday on Fox News Channel’s “Media Buzz,” while discussing the controversy over President Barack Obama and his administrations unwillingness to label ISIS and other extremist groups as Islamic terrorists,  investigate reporter Sharyl Attkisson pointed out the media and society at large has no problem being very clear it’s Christians who bomb abortion clinics."

With the media's only justification for this abominable behavior being that it happens to be true. How unfair.  Brought to you by "investigative" reporter Sharyl Atkisson, primarily known for spreading lies about Benghazi, for which she lost her job, and recently seen accusing the White House of attacking her computer keyboard, in a ludicrous conspiracy claim hardly distinguishable from those of people who think the CIA is communicating with them through their teeth.  Keep it real there, Breitbart guys.

That would be Willie Soon, whom the Times revealed to have been paid $1.2 million by energy companies to produce his "research," which of course contradicts the findings of the 97 percent of climate scientists; i.e. those who are not paid $1.2 million by energy companies.

As the Times points out:

"Though often described on conservative news programs as a “Harvard astrophysicist,” Dr. Soon is not an astrophysicist and has never been employed by Harvard. He is a part-time employee of the Smithsonian Institution with a doctoral degree in aerospace engineering. He has received little federal research money over the past decade and is thus responsible for bringing in his own funds, including his salary."

As if we didn't know that the 3% of "scientists" who dispute global warming (with the exception of a couple of cranks and cheap attention seekers) are all being paid by corporate interests to tell their lies.

Maggie Gallagher, National Review Online:  "Progressive Elites’ Anti-Christian Animus...progressives are Hollywood’s newest niche market."

You know what, Maggie?  No one used to hate Christianity before people like you managed to turn it into something hateful.  You are damned right that people like me can't stand the "religion" full of violence, racism and hatred which you have substituted for what used to be called "Christianity." And we are going to go on opposing it, because it is a malignant force in our lives.

Ron Edwards, News with Views:  "THE GREATEST DANGER AMERICA FACES  What is the greatest danger America faces? The list of dangers faced by our beleaguered republic is long and varied. Amongst the most obvious are the over twenty terrorist training camps strategically ensconced throughout America."

Funny that Ron couldn't come up with one shred of evidence for this supposed fact.  Of course, by the way, he utterly ignores the literally hundreds of real terrrorist training camps being run in the country by right wing militias.  No, it's the imaginary Muslims we need to be in a panic about.

Cliff Kincaid, News with Views:  "REDS IN HOLLYWOOD MAKING A COMEBACK"

Do you really want to hear any more about this?  No, I didn't think so.

Lee Duignon, News with Views:  "Frankly, I’m not much interested in the “science” of Global Warming"

Of course not.  People like you are not interested in the science of anything.  You are only interested in what you get paid to say.  See my item about Willie Soon, above.

Coach Dave Daubenmire, News with Views:  "FIELDING A TEAM TO DEFEAT THE POWERS OF DARKNESS...I am putting together a team...and I need your help."

Preferrably help of a financial nature.  Brought to you by another fiercely independent, self-reliant Conservative.

Pastor Roger Anghis,  News with Views:  "Watching the Transformation of America...Pastors no longer confront the social issues of the day that are destroying our society"

That's because the pastors you are talking about are the social issue of the day that is destroying our society.

And as usual, enough is enough.  See you soon.

Rudy and Love

I want to point you toward a wonderful article in the New York Daily News today, responding to Rudy Giuliani's recent piggish remark about Obama not "loving" the United States.  The article is by Wayne Barrett, and is entitled "What Rudy Giuliani knows about love — a response to his 'doesn't love America' critique of Obama."  It is a discussion of Giuliani's behavior in his three marriages, and pretty well makes it clear that Rudy Giuliani never loved a thing in his life except himself, and does not have a clue what the word "love" means.

I'll just add that, personally speaking, whatever I feel for my country has very little to do with what I feel for my wife or my kids, or for that matter my Corgi dog. So I would never describe it as "love." Once again, Republicans are just trying to force Obama into some humiliating linguistic concession, the same way that they insist he use exactly the words they want when he talks about Al Qaida or ISIS, or that they smear him whenever he expresses his own feelings about racism.

Well, but it has worked out great for Rudy.  This despicable political has-been has found a way to worm himself back into public attention, at least for a few days.  And even if the long term result is to induce most people to think even less of him than the already abysmal opinion they already had, I guess he'll always have these few days.

Why We Are Getting Nowhere in the Middle East

They are all bad guys:

"Beirut (AFP) - Ten children were among at least 48 people killed in a Syrian village this week when regime forces executed six families of rebel fighters, a monitoring group said on Saturday."

So, we are supposed to support a savage dictator because he is just slightly less barbaric than ISIS?  Who, exactly, do we expect to bring a decent way of life to the people of Syria and Iraq, and now Yemen and Libya too?  Are we expected to feel bad that another savage, terrorist monster, Moammar Khadafy was overthrown, because the people of his country don't have the decency to come together and build a peaceful country, preferring to slaughter each other en masse over meaningless religious disputes?

Of course, the Republicans' answer to this is to savagely attack Obama for not fixing the unfixable, when we all know that if they were in charge, not only would they do no better, but their hunger for violent intervention would make things far worse, as it did in Iraq.

Thank heaven that Obama has done as little as he has.  What his opponents want to do will only pave the road to hell.

Terrorist Plots We Don't Really Have to Worry About

From an article in the International Business Times today:

"Islamic extremist planned to 'make Yellowstone supervolcano erupt' in US terror plot"

Well, that's nice.  I wonder how he proposed to do that.  He finally decided to try to blow up a train in Canada instead.  Sort of a pretty weak second choice to something that has the potential to wipe out a third of the population of the United States.  Anyway, he didn't blow up the train either.  He got caught.  I hope the Canadians have the sense to never let this idiotic jerk out of jail again,

Republican Judicial Rulings Explained- The Latest Specimen

Because it seems like no one on earth dares speak the truth about what is going on with the recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen, to stop enforcement of Obama's actions on immigration.  The Republicans engaged in the time honored but malign practice of "judge-shopping," finding a G. W. Bush appointed Judge who hates both immigrants and Obama to make this decision, which is so manifestly without merit that it is inevitably going to be overturned.

But, you see, that is fine with Republicans, because here is the reason that this whole charade is taking place:  As we all can see, the Republicans have painted themselves into a really ugly corner over the House's refusal to refund the Department of Homeland Security without kicking Obama in the teeth over his immigration actions.  Unfortunately, the Senate Republicans don't have the votes to pass the House version of the DHS funding bill, and the House Republicans won't budge an inch.  That means that, in ten days, on February 27th, the Department of Homeland Security will be shut down.  As every Republican short of manifestly mentally ill legislators like Ted Cruz or Louie Gohmert realizes, this will be an unmitigated disaster for the Republican party.  Not only will it be a replay of former Republican shutdowns, but polling shows the vast majority of people will blame this totally on the Republican party.  When this has happened before, there has been a collapse of Republican ratings around the country.  But in this case, something more is involved.  This action will reveal to anyone who cares to see it, just what a total pretense the decades-long Republican claim to care about our national security is.  This claim is one of the strongest legs on which the Republicans have built their endless campaign to dupe the American people, and it would be catastrophic for them if it were undermined.

Now, however, due to a compliant judge, the Republicans have an out.  As this judge has put off Obama's plans into the indefinite future, the Republicans can claim that the issue has been resolved, and remove the House immigration rider from a bill that has the party headed over a cliff.  All they have to do is engage in enough legal stalling to prevent a higher court from ruling on this before the end of the month, and they will have extricated themselves from a disaster they built with their own hands.

No, I can't point to a single Republican who admits to this plan (as they never would,) but my experience of politics over the years convinces me that this is what is going on here.  We'll see if I'm right, and if this ruling can be used to get the wild animals in the House back into their cages for a little while longer.

Update:  And as I predicted, here it is:

"McCain to GOP: Fund DHS, let courts decide Obama's immigration actions...
“I would put sufficient blame on the Democrats for not allowing us to move forward in the Senate. But having said that, now I’m hopeful with this court decision—with the declaration that the president himself has acted unconstitutionally as he himself stated I think 22 times—that we would let the courts move forward with this issue since we have a favorable ruling,” he said."

I want to point out two things here.  First of all, this is not some sort of routine partisan maneuvering. It is the corruption of the Federal judiciary to achieve partisan political ends.  Of course, because it is Republicans who are the corrupters and the corrupted, it is just fine, and no one (except me) will have the rudeness to bring this issue up.

And now, while we are on the subject of me, here is my second point, as self-serving as it may seem: as far as I can tell, I am the only person in the entire country to spell out what the purpose of this judicial ruling was.  Not one other person anywhere correctly identified this criminal maneuver. So listen, I am just one guy sitting at his keyboard, with zero connections to the halls of power or anything else, really.  The issue is not whether I am the smartest political commentator in the entire country, the issue is why, with all that has gone on in this country since the Reagan administration, no one, even on the left, is willing to speak the obvious truth.  The security that Republicans feel in committing their endless treachery comes from their confidence that no one will call them on it- no one that counts, anyway, and that category certainly does not include Green Eagle.

The Insanity and Dishonesty of Republican Opposition, part about two million

So, for about a year now, we've heard the Republicans howling to the moon because Obama doesn't use the word "terrorist."  Of course, he has used the word over and over again, but that is an issue for another day.  Now, Obama has been using the term consistently.  So, are the Republicans thanking him for adopting their linguistic demands?

“There’s a set of words, it’s almost as if they’re given a card — a do-not-speak card,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Texas) said last week at the conservative Center for Security Policy think thank. “The words ‘radical Islamic terrorism’ do not come out of the president’s mouth."

So now, you see, Obama has to say "radical Islamic terrorism" or else he is going to be subject to the same savage attacks.  And if he says that, they'll add another demand that he spout out their jingoistic code words.  And on it will go, because you know that he can never win.  If the time comes that they have exhausted every single English word available to heap abuse on Muslims, they will just accuse him of being too vicious, and pretend that they have been the moderate ones all along.

There is no honesty in this at all.  There is nothing but hatred and lust for power.  That is all the Republican party is about (other than systematizing corruption in government) and that is all it will ever be about.

Yes, there is absolutely no depth to which they will not sink.  Here's a story covered by Fox 5 in San Diego:

"(News anchor Kathleen) Bade's report discussed how the office of San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis’ has declined to prosecute a person of interest in a rape case, the Raw Story blog reported. The sexual assault case involved students at San Diego State University."

And here's a screen capture from the story as it appeared on the air:
Anything about this guy look familiar?  Oh well, it was just a little mixup, I'm sure.

The station broadcast no correction, and has refused to apologize.  A spokesman had this to say"

“They really don’t do that when it’s a small thing like that.”

Calling the President of the United States a rapist, in a TV news show.  Just a small thing.  Well, I guess compared to calling him a Muslim terrorist or the Antichrist, it is.

The Ultimate Scandal

Charles C. Johnson, on Twitter:

"Why don't we know Sasha Obama's middle name?"

The scandal that will bring Obama down!  From a series of Twitter comments in which Johnson insists that Sasha's real father is Jesse Jackson.

Just a Thought About the Second Amendment

And here it is, just to remind you:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I had never thought of this before, but it just occurred to me that the bill protects the right to "keep and bear arms."  It says nothing at all about owning them.  I would say that, under a literal interpretation of the second amendment, there is nothing to prevent the government from banning the private ownership of weapons.

Well, what do you think?  I mean, that's what they said, right?  Original intent and the Founding Fathers and all do you think right wingers would respond to that argument?

Daily Kos Gets It Wrong

As usual with left leaning blogs, by just not being cynical enough.

Here's a quote from a Daily Kos post about Michael Cannon, one of the Cato Institute (i.e. Koch brothers paid) people who came up with the Obamacare challenge, and who is responsible for getting the Supreme Court to vote his way:

"Cannon's job is convincing five Supreme Court justices of his idea that there will be cheaper health insurance when they "get rid of those subsidies and mandates so that the law is not making health insurance so expensive for the majority of these folks in anymore."

Well, that is not Cannon's job at all.  It is only to give the five corrupt corporate tools on the court cover to decide the way their masters want them to.  And that is a much lower bar than actually trying to convince them of the totally ludicrous possibility that the Republicans will come up with an adequate replacement for Obamacare.

Wingnut Wrapup

I have to say, I've had real trouble with this edition of Wingnut Wrapup.  I just haven't found the jackass behavior of right wingers to be that funny lately, and if I reduce this to nothing but rants about how vicious these guys are, it won't be much fun to read, let alone write.  Anyway, as Mario would say, here we go:

Jeff Jacoby, Town Hall:  "No, 2014 Wasn't the "Warmest Year In History"

Fie on those damned "scientists" with their "facts."  The average real American patriot knows better!  It sonwed in Boston!  In January!

Star Parker, Town Hall:  "Freedom is Best Way to Help Low-Income Students"

Freedom!!!  As opposed to adequate funding for public schools, which does nothing at all.  Freedom will teach them everything they need to know.  How?  Who the hell knows...which just proves how poor our educational system is, I guess.

John Ransom, Town Hall:  "Liberals Were Wrong and We Were Right—Again"

In your fantasy land, John.  This guy is making the ludicruous claim that cutting unemployment benefits created 1.8 million jobs.  Hey, John, I thought the government couldn't create jobs, only the Job Creators.

Rich Galen, Town Hall:  "The decision by Gov. Mitt Romney to drop out of the nominating process for President about three weeks after he had surprised most of the Washington-based punditry by appearing to be serious about getting into the race."

He was serious about it, Rich.  It's just that no one else was- at least no one else with the few hundred million spare dollars necessary to finance Mitt's next planned exercise in grotesque ego gratification.

And more Mitt:

Andrew Klavan, PJ Media:  "Mitt for President...Anyone who doesn't want the job deserves our support."

He doesn't want it?  Who do you think you're kidding? Nobody ever wanted it more, Andrew.  It's just that no one else wanted him to be President.  A guy who really doesn't want to be President doesn't run three times and spend a huge amount of money in the process.  Do you really not understand that?

Daniel J. Mitchell, Town Hall:  "Daniel J. Mitchell: Bringing Growth to the Developing World: The Role of Tax Havens and the Size of Government"

You've got to laugh.  The answer to bringing growth to poor countries: allowing rich Americans to hide more of their money there.  No matter what the problem is, the answer is to make rich people richer.

Bill S, Red State:  "I’m done with the Super Bowl. The leftists have won."

Fine.  Whatever.  Watch the puppy bowl instead.

Moe Lane, Red State:  "The White House and their false claims of deficit busting, in one handy picture."

I wom't bother with the picture, but the gist of this is that the claim that Obama has lopped two thirds off the Federal budget deficit is false.  Unfortunately, it's true, so guys like Moe just have to tell more lies about it.

Avner Zami, PJ Media:  "Scott Walker Takes Next Step: How Might He Govern as President?"

Don't ask me, ask the Koch brothers, since everything he does is what they tell him to do.

Rand Paul, Republican Presidential Hopeful:  "I have heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines."

I guess you are a case in point, Rand.  It would be just great to have this guy for President, right?  Here's another bit from Rand:

“The state doesn’t own your children,” Paul said in an interview with CNBC’s “Closing Bell.” “Parents own the children"

And here I never knew that I owned my children.  I mean, they are grown now, but can I still sell them?  Believe me, if you're interested, you won't have to pay retail- they're used.

I saw a quote from the normally totally astute Digby today:

"By failing to vaccinate, parents aren't just endangering their own kids they're endangering other people's kids. Even libertarians should have to take a big breath before they claim that's ok ..."

Well, Digby, you were wrong about that.  Once again, the greatest liberal failing is to underestimate the will of Conservatives to do anything that benefits themselves, regardless of their claimed beliefs, the damage it might do to others, or anything else.

John De Nugent, Blindlight:

"Yes, Hitler and the Germans were right, some Slavs (Russians, Poles, Ukrainians, etc.) do lie, steal and get drunk."

Well, now I understand why he had to exterminate 20 million of them.  They get drunk!  This changes my whole attitude about Hitler, because it's obviously okay to kill someone who is drunk.  But wait, there's more:

"...this always happens when morality is destroyed by the Jews"

Because everybody knows that no one ever got drunk unless Jews made them do it.  Mr. DeNugent is a new one to me, but I'll keep an eye on him, as I am sure he will provide us with more innocent entertainment in the future.

Kevin Barrett, Veterans Today:  "Is it (a) coincidence that the Twin Towers themselves formed a gigantic number eleven?"

Well, is it?  I mean really, IS IT?!!?!?!??  Actually, I think it would have been a whole lot weirder if they had formed a gigantic number 395.  Or just about any other number than 11, because any two skyscrapers form a gigantic number 11, when you think about it.

Newsmax:  "Unlike Barack Obama, Jordan's King Abdullah Shows Strong Leadership...Jordan's execution of two Iraqi jihadists as revenge for ISIS burning alive a 26-year-old Jordanian pilot shows how seriously King Abdullah takes the militant threat"

Because the right wingers would cheer for Obama if he unilaterally pulled a couple of prisoners out of jail and had them executed.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Obama to Give Tax Refunds to Illegal Aliens"

Because we owe them the money, but who cares if we can steal it, right?

And here is perhaps a new high in deliberately misunderstanding the facts about vaccines:

This is, of course, because measles vaccine has just about totally eliminated measles and thus the risk of death from measles is nearly zero.  Of course, before the measles vaccine came along, hundreds of times more people died from measles than do today, but I guess that has nothing to do with measles vaccination.  Dishonesty almost beyond comprehension, particularly when you try to think of why these people might want to bring back a virtually eliminated disease just to score some kind of sick political point.

Curtis Ellis, World Net Daily:  "While D.C. sleeps, China plans to replace America"

With a cheap knockoff that looks just the same but is covered in lead paint.

Eric Bolling, Fox News:   "And yet, and yet when you take Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, whatever, their combined killings in the name of religion -- well that number would be zero."

I won't take up the monumental assholery of this comment, but I do want to point out that these people, who insist on the inerrancy of the bible when it comes to the age of the earth or some obscure passage about gay people, forget all the times that God ordered the Jewish people to wipe out other tribes in Israel.  I guess only the parts they care about actually represent the truth.

Townhall:  "Capitol Source: "Abortion-centered Feminism is Dead"

Capitol source.  That would be Marjorie Dannenfelser, head of a right wing anti-abortion group.  Take her opinion for what it's worth.  (Hint: that would be zero.)

Joseph Farah, World Net Daily:  "Did Obama deliver ultimate insult to Christianity?"

The truth.  He told the truth. The ultimate insult to Christianity.  Or just about any other religion.  Thanks for clearing that up, Joseph.

Conn Carol, Town Hall:  "White House Says Climate Change Is A Bigger Threat To National Security Than Terrorism"

No shit, Sherlock.

Hugh Hewitt, Town Hall:  "Rubio and Bolton Poised To Enter The GOP Field As National Security Hawks"

Ha.  Ha, ha, ha.  John Bolton.  National security hawk.  You go guy- the clown car still has room for one more.

Frank Dowse, Town Hall:  "To Not Arm Ukraine Is A Choice We Cannot Afford"

We can't afford to let this chance to start World War III slip through our fingers.

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Did the White House Know Where ISIS Hostages Were Being Held for Months?"

The Next Benghazi?  If they can pull it off.  Don't think you've heard the last of this one.

Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "With Williams Suspended, The World Awaits The Return Of 'Real News'

Do I even need to mention that Williams, liar that he apparently is, lied only about his own experiences in Iraq, not about the actual news stories he was reporting, as Fox news "reporters" do every single day of the year?

Brian Fischer, Renew America:  "The battle of the ages: passing Cruz's federal marriage amendment"

The battle of the ages?  I guess Brian forgot about World War II.

And every once in a while I run into a headline that is so incoherent that I think it must have been ghost written by Sarah Palin:

Curtis Dahlgren, Renew America:  "Evolution: The Thalidomide of social silver bullets"

Dr. Bart Classen, Journal of Molecular and Genetic Medicine:  "The best data indicates that vaccine-induced chronic disease is now of a magnitude that dwarfs almost all prior poisoning of humans, including poisoning from agents like asbestos, low dose radiation, lead, and even cigarettes,"

Man, they never give up on a lie.  And the  Journal of Molecular and Genetic Medicine-  man, you would never expect to see them here at Wingnut Wrapup.  Anyway, Classen makes a living off of his anti-vaccine lies.  His so-called research has been demolished by other real scientists, as you would expect.  In the article, of course, Classen refers without qualification to Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the king of fake vaccine-autism claims, whose "research" was revealed to be completely phony, resulting in his having his medical license revoked in England, where he is from.  Well, Journal guys, you owe your readers and their patients more than this.

And now, let's not let any chance to invent a lie go to waste- Brian Williams memorial edition:

Breitbart:  "EXCLUSIVE: PRIEBUS TO WASSERMAN SCHULTZ – IS HILLARY MISSING DUE TO SUSPENSION OVER STOLEN VALOR LIE? In a letter to Democrat National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, obtained exclusively by Breitbart News, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus asks if Hillary Clinton’s mysterious disappearance from the national stage is due to her being “suspended” by the DNC for repeatedly lying about coming under sniper fire in Bosnia."

No evidence that she was lying, of course.  But while the nation is absorbed with an offense by a reporter, why not invent an accusation against Hillary and get some real mileage out of it.  Notice the way this is framed- just as a question, so they can say later, if they are called on it, that they never accused her of it, just asked if she did it. I mean, did she?  Who knows?  Standard right wing smear tactics, of course, but just a minuscule taste of what is going to happen in the next Presidential election.

Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "The Assassination of Scott Walker By The Coward Liberal Media"

Ha.  Matt, how about an article on the assassination of the middle class by Scott Walker, or more precisely, the assassination of the middle class by the Koch brothers, with their mindless stooge Scott Walker doing as much of their dirty work as he can?

Erick Erickson, Town Hall:  "Erick Erickson: Substituted Morality...The United States Supreme Court will, by June, plunge the nation back into the throws of culture war."

The "throws" of the culture war.  And CNN decided that this ignorant jackass would be a good hire to comment on the news.  Our liberal media.  Shows what happens when you count on spell check to substitute for actually having an education.

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "Kansas Secretary of State: Illegal Aliens Registering to Vote is a Massive Problem Nationwide..."The problem of aliens registering to vote is a massive one, nationwide. And I have seen it firsthand in Kansas. Because there is no way of scanning a state's voter rolls and identifying which of the registered voters are aliens, determining the exact number of aliens on the voter rolls in virtually impossible."

Even pointing a single one out is apparently impossible too.  This jackass, Kris Kobach, one of the most strident liars about about the supposed existence of voter fraud, was just rebuked by a committee from his own State that reported that not a single case of voter fraud could be found.  So now he throws in the illegal alien bugaboo, and moves right ahead with his lying.  I repeat, he cannot point to a single example of an illegal alien casting a vote, but, being a hard core Conservative, that won't stop him, will it?

David Harsanyi, Town Hall:  "Obama Is a Good BS'er, but He's a Terrible Liar"

That's because he doesn't get the kind of daily practice at it that you Republicans do.

Mark Nuckols, Town Hall:  "Why We Can't Trust Vladimir Putin...Vladimir Putin is a gangster at the head of a criminal state."

Funny, just six months ago or so you guys thought he was the greatest thing ever.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "1500 Men Lock Arms protecting their place of worship against Hundreds of Feminists Burning Bibles"

Man, that must have been quite a sight.  This supposedly happened in Argentina.  In Texas, for example, they would have locked and loaded, and then taught those feminists a real lesson.

Ed Lasky, American Thinker:  "we have a fool as president -- a man who has disgraced the office of the presidency"

Another example of the deliberate projection Republicans have been engaged in for the last six years to try to erase the memory of the most disgraceful fool the White House has ever seen- their very own George W. Bush.  Somehow, they still think that making these absurd, idiotic claims against Obama, they are going to make us forget the real Worst President Ever.  That's their story and they are sticking to it.  We, on the other hand, will just stick to the truth.

Enough.  That's all I can take.

A Vision Of Our Future

I want to urgently encourage you to look at this collection of photos of the now-demolished Kowloon Walled City.  It is a view of the future that the Republican party has in store for the 99.99% of Americans who cannot self-finance political campaigns.  Here are a couple of examples:

I am not kidding here.  These things are not sets from Blade Runner or some other dystopian movie about the future.  It is a place where over a million people once lived, and it is exactly the sort of environment which sociopathic billionaires like the Koch brothers think is a suitable home for the rest of us. I have said for a long time that one of two fates await the workers of this country: either they bring the incomes of foreign workers closer to their own, or they are going to see their lives descend into the plight of foreign workers.  Well, here are some great pictures of what that looks like.  Please take a look and decide if this is a good enough life for your children and grandchildren.

The Lie of the Century

And we're only 15 years in.  This is the story that the Republican party is going to be telling in the next few years, and as you might expect, the Republican king of fantasy, Senator Ted Cruz, is out front telling it:

"Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) suggested on Sunday that Democrats will lose the 2016 presidential race because they are the party of the “top 1 percent,” and that Republicans are the party of “hard working” people."

For those of us who are even minimally in touch with reality, this is so preposterous that it's hard to think that even Ted Cruz could say it with a straight face.  But remember, the point of this claim is not really to convince people, it is just to make the voters in the middle see this as a "he said-she said" debate, in which no one can be clearly identified as telling the truth.  It's a strategy they have refined to a fine art, most recently practiced by the "new" Mitt Romney, who had decided to run on the claim that he was the champion of the middle class, before even Republicans saw how impossible it would be to convince anyone but the most brain-dead wingnuts of that.  Still, you can be sure that the next Republican campaign is going to be run across the board on two principles, which they have been testing for some time: restricting access to candidates so that no information about them is available except for canned propaganda, and claiming, after a century of serving no one but the rich, to be the real party of the middle class.

The cynicism of this approach leaves us breathless, but there it is.  The Republicans are already advancing this approach by squelching the likes of Sarah Palin, and taking meaningless sorts of superficially reasonable positions on issues like global warming and medical care in order to muddy the waters about who the good guys are and who the bad guys are.  And given the inevitable refusal of the corporate press to discuss this dishonesty in any way, it's likely that this strategy of total denial of reality will have a good chance of succeeding, if not on the Presidential level, at least in their efforts to con the American people into letting them keep control of Congress and Statehouses across the land.

Tough Guy

In case you haven't seen this photo yet, before you look below, take a guess who it is:

Well, it's not an action adventure movie actor.  It's the King of Jordan, who announced today that Jordan is going to attack ISIS until it doesn't have a bomb or a bullet left.  Life imitates art, huh?

Dietary Supplements

I'm sure many of you saw something about the recent study commissioned by the New York Attorney General's office, which tested dietary supplements from four major retailers of them- Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens and General Nutrition Centers, and which found that eighty percent of them contained major adulterants, and many of them contained none of the promised ingredients at all.

As many of my readers will know, I have a very keen interest in people who believe things that are false.  This dates from the late 1960's and one of the things I have followed since that time is the "health food" and "dietary supplement" business.

I first want to say that the entire history of health food fads and dietary supplements in this country, from the mid-nineteenth century and people like the Kelloggs and Sylvester Graham, through Gaylord Hauser, the Rodales, and the aforementioned General Nutrition Centers, right down to the present, has featured consistent fraud and deception.  This has never changed, and it obviously goes on to this day.

Now, I would like to bring up a seemingly unrelated subject: deregulation, the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people, brought to us by Saint Ronnie Reagan.  A decades-long Republican fight to prevent regulation of dietary supplements has produced the following result:  someone who is sincere and wants to make a product that actually contains what it claims can obviously not compete economically with companies that feel free to sell any kind of ground up garbage as medicines.  And this is the entire story of deregulation:  making former crimes legal simply renders it impossible for anyone who is honest to compete with crooks.  We thus have a situation in our country where, except for inherited wealth and the minuscule number of people like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, the only way to get rich today is to be a crook.

Anyone who knows anything about health fads could have probably guessed that a lot of these products were fake- and, after all, with many of them, even if you get the real thing, it doesn't do a damned thing anyway.  But the systematic protection of the most despicable of business practices by Republicans is sufficiently familiar to us that I guess this is really only a very minor example of it.  It is staggering that so many Americans view these people as their friends, after all they have done to prove otherwise.

Moderate Muslims Respond

I just know you are going to be as uplifted by this information as I was:

"Cairo (AFP) - Al-Azhar, Sunni Islam's most prestigious centre of learning, expressed outrage at the Islamic State group for burning to death a captive Jordanian pilot, saying its militants deserve to be killed or crucified.

After a video was released showing the caged fighter pilot, Maaz al-Kassasbeh, dying engulfed in flames, the Cairo-based authority's head, Ahmed al-Tayib, expressed his "strong dismay at this cowardly act".

This "requires the punishment mentioned in the Koran for these corrupt oppressors who fight against God and his prophet: killing, crucifixion or chopping of the limbs."

As we all come together to condemn those who attack all Muslims because of the acts of a few, I think it is so hopeful that we have moderate, educated Muslims clarifying that the behavior of ISIS is not acceptable.  Burning to death- NO!  Crucifixion or "chopping of the limbs"- that's just fine.

You know, I am sitting here thinking and thinking; and despite my usual felicity with the genre, I can't think of a single remark that is sarcastic enough to respond to this.  It's enough to make you believe that the world is doomed.

A Strange Phenomenon in the Anti-vaccine World

It has been a matter of faith in those who took an interest in anti-vaccine lunacy, including, I must confess, myself, that this movement existed primarily among left-leaning people, providing a convenient counterbalance, in the eyes of the everybody-does-it crowd to the dozens of certifiably idiotic conspiracy theories and fantasies that are the very stuff of life of the right.  But lately a lot has been happening to challenge that notion, or at least suggest that there is a major change going on in who buys into this malicious fantasy.

All of a sudden, we are seeing all sorts of right wing figures championing this cause,or at least insisting that not vaccinating children is a legitimate choice.  Rand Paul, for example, or Chris Christie, who is constantly touted as a rational Republican.  Fox News of course has jumped on the bandwagon.

I guess this shouldn't be surprising, given that this paranoid conspiracy theory fits neatly into the anti-government and anti-science mania that has become such a central part of Republican doctrine the last few years.  But, I still am surprised, and all I can say is that, if they want to own this malignant and idiotic campaign against public safety, they are welcome to it.  Of course, no matter how many Republicans (and no Democrats) actively stir up this mess, the press will still have to report it as a progressive phenomenon, because let's face it, "both sides do it," and other than this, there really isn't much on the left side to balance the raving madness of the right.

An additional note:  I just noticed the results of this Pew poll, which I am mentioning for obvious reasons:

"A new Pew report has some interesting revelations on how vaccine beliefs break down along party lines. The poll found that 1 out of 3 Republicans and Independents said the decision to vaccinate should left for parents to decide, as opposed to 1 out of 5 Democrats."

The article notes that a similar poll conducted in 2009 showed little difference between the parties. Thanks so much, Republicans, for seeing to it that every idiotic conspiracy theory belongs to you.

Impartial Investigation At Its Finest

The United Nations, an utterly impartial referee in diplomatic disputes, as we learn from this article at the Al Jazeera website:

"The head of a UN inquiry into last summer's conflict between Israel and Gaza has said he will resign after Israeli allegations of bias due to consultancy work he did for the Palestine Liberation Organisation [PLO]...

(Canadian academic William)  Schabas was appointed last August by the head of the UN Human Rights Council to lead a three-member group looking into alleged war crimes during Israel's military offensive against Gaza.

Schabas' departure highlights the sensitivity of the UN investigation just weeks after prosecutors at the International Criminal Court in The Hague said they had started a preliminary inquiry into alleged atrocities in the Palestinian territories."

It does, of course not " highlight the sensitivity of the UN investigation;" it highlights what a rigged farce it is.  After reading this, and discovering that the UN appointed as the head of this investigation, a man who was a consultant for the PLO, can anyone wonder why Israel regards the UN as an extension of Arab policy with no intention of finding anyone but Israel guilty of all wrongdoing? And does anyone think his replacement will be any more an honest figure than he is, if the United Nations Human Rights Council saw fit to select him in the first place?

Green Eagle Doesn't Have Enough to Do These Days

The Real Face of Anti-vaccination Forces

Here's an interview with a doctor (!) that was on CNN, which I found in a post at Crooks and Liars, which pretty much spells out the real truth about parents who won't have their kids vaccinated.  The case he was discussing involved a girl with Leukemia, whose immune system was severely compromised, and who could easily be killed by a disease like measles:

"An Arizona cardiologist told CNN in an interview that went online Monday that he doesn't care if his refusal to vaccinate his kids gives other children grave, preventable diseases.

“I’m not going to sacrifice the well-being of my child. My child is pure,” Dr. Jack Wolfson said in the interview. “It’s not my responsibility to be protecting their child.”

"As far as I’m concerned, it’s very likely that her leukemia is from vaccinations in the first place," Wolfson said.

The CNN interviewer asked Wolfson repeatedly if he could live with himself if his unvaccinated child got other children, like Sacks' daughter, fatally sick.

“I could live with myself easily. It’s an unfortunate thing that people die, but people die. And I’m not going to put my child at risk to save another child,” he said.

Here's the interview if, for some reason, you want to hear more from this subhuman:

I stated some time ago that it is my belief that these malicious people are motivated by nothing except a very disgusting brand of selfishness.  Like right wingers that don't want to pay their taxes, they want others to provide them with benefits without cost to themselves.  I guess this profoundly contemptible man certainly can be counted as an argument for that view.
