The Treason Emerges

Listen, as far as I am concerned, this may be the most important, and horrible, American political story of my lifetime, so I am not going to give up on it.  Here are some excerpts from the intelligence report released today, about Trump being a tool of the Russian dictator, as selected by the Washington Post:

“We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election. Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump. We have high confidence in these judgments.”

“We also assess Putin and the Russian Government aspired to help President-elect Trump’s election chances when possible by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him. All three agencies agree with this judgment. CIA and FBI have high confidence in this judgment; NSA has moderate confidence.”

“When it appeared to Moscow that Secretary Clinton was likely to win the election, the Russian influence campaign began to focus more on undermining her future presidency.”
“Russian intelligence obtained and maintained access to elements of multiple US state or local electoral boards. DHS assesses that the types of systems Russian actors targeted or compromised were not involved in vote tallying.”

“We assess that influence campaigns are approved at the highest levels of the Russian Government — particularly those that would be politically sensitive.”

“Russia collected on some Republican-affiliated targets but did not conduct a comparable disclosure campaign.”

“Russia used trolls as well as [its state-funded television network] RT as part of its influence efforts to denigrate Secretary Clinton. This effort amplified stories on scandals about Secretary Clinton and the role of WikiLeaks in the election campaign.”

“We assess with high confidence that the GRU used the Guccifer 2.0 persona, DCLeaks.com, and WikiLeaks to release US victim data obtained in cyber operations publicly and in exclusives to media outlets. . . . We assess with high confidence that the GRU relayed material it acquired from the DNC and senior Democratic officials to WikiLeaks. Moscow most likely chose WikiLeaks because of its self-proclaimed reputation for authenticity.”

If you want to read the full report, you can find it here.

It is absolutely vital that every single person familiarize themselves with this account of treachery. Anyone can see that the Republicans are about to launch a disinformation campaign almost without precedent, even for them, to keep the American people from realizing what this means.  It is a fatal indictment not only of Trump, but of the Republican party which has nursed him into life.  This is, right now, the only issue that makes a damned bit of difference in our country.  If we let this go, and let the Republicans and the press lull people into thinking this is just normal, we have given away our democracy to a foreign dictator.  We must continue to force people to deal with this betrayal, if we have any hope of a decent, free future for our children and grandchildren.  Trump must never be accorded any legitimacy as President, nor must his hand picked Vice President or any Republican that has supported this abomination.

Sad to say... it is not the facts of the matter that upset me most. I expect opponents in a global contest for dominance to behave like enemies. It's a form of warfare. I get it.

What upsets me most... is that pretty much the entire Trump support base will just brush it away.
I've just come from that part of the blogosphere... and as far as they're concerned, people with serious rational concerns about this matter

- brought to their attention by the biggest, most expensive, most powerful national security intelligence apparatus in the entire history of mankind -

are just being bad sports, partisan or are actually deranged.

Right-wingers just CHOOSE not to believe it. Like all reality is a question of choice to them. It's all just the lies of liberals.
And people like you and me... well we're just crazy.

How often have we heard the phrase "regime change" over the last decade and a half?
Well someone just executed regime change on the United States of America, but half of America doesn't give a shit, because they're moron enough to think it just means they're winning.
That upsets me.

Well, of course, I agree with you. The point is not what Putin did. It is that such a massive number of Americans are just fine with dictatorship, if they are licensed to let their greed and hatred loose.

As annoying as Russia's interference is, that's nowhere near the annoyance level of the morons who swallowed the propaganda like they were enjoying their first taste of Russian caviar.

It's the voters who placidly take suggestion as truth and ignore truth as falsified or the new vogue term "fake news" simply because the information is incongruent with their ignorance that annoys the hell out of me.

THEY are the reason we have a despot ready to take the oath of office. THEY and THEY ALONE bear the responsibility for their due diligence in voting. For voting is not some half-assed elementary school game of popularity.

Rather; it comes with PERSONAL responsibility, and those who ignored their responsibilities, allowing this travesty to take place, carry the full weight of their lazy, ignorant behavior and the evil which is to come as a result of their lazy stupidity.

Absolutely, Bob, and very well put. These people have put a black stain on their souls that they will never be able to remove. They are tainted for the rest of their lives. As I pointed out, neither Hitler nor Mussolini (despite common myths to the contrary) was elected to lead his country. Only in America are we stupid enough to elect our own dictator.

It seems to me that one of the problems is that Hillary started playing a prevent defense from the beginning. Picking Kaine (a decent enough guy, but not from the more progressive wing of the party), refusing to say that her private server was NOT a mistake, but really the best way to protect state secrets, not saying coal is dead and we need a new way of protecting coal country, really not taking a liberal position on most issues but trying to play the middle.
