Rasmussen

 I am going to do something generally unforgivable in the blogging world.  I am going to repeat an entire post from Daily Kos.  The post concerns the Rasmussen Report, treated like a serious Republican leaning polling organization over and over again in the mainstream media.  Anyway, here is the post, by Kos community member Gary Hurd:


"I just had a revealing phone call from RASMUSSEN REPORT (732) 776-9777.

They first bragged about how important Rasumssen report was. Then came the first question;

"Generally speaking do you think that the country is on the right path, or on the wrong path?

If the right path press 1,

If in the wrong path press 2,

If unsure press 3."

I pressed 1.

Rasmussen's AI replied, "That is an invalid response. We will repeat the question;

Generally speaking do you think that the country is on the right path, or on the wrong path?

If the right path press 1,

If in the wrong path press 2,

If unsure press 3."

I pressed 1.

Rasmussen's AI replied, "That is an invalid response. We will repeat the question;

Generally speaking do you think that the country is on the right path, or on the wrong path?

If the right path press 1,

If in the wrong path press 2,

If unsure press 3."

I pressed 1.

Rasmussen's AI hung up."


And Rasmussen is the most "respected" of right wing "polling" organizations, whose claims are constantly cited as a counterpoint to the results of real polls.  To be blunt, their polling is nothing but the same sort of lies that we get from every other right wing spokesman in the country.  Please keep this in mind whenever you see these polls used to supposedly describe the attitudes of the American people.


Remember the recent march in Washington to honor the January 6th "patriots?"  Tens of thousands were supposed to show up, after massive publicity from both the right wing and mainstream press.  In fact, about 300 showed up.  Within a week of this event, women's marches were held in several American cities to protest the atrocious abortion law that Texas just passed.  70,000 to 100,000 people turned out for those, which received essentially zero press coverage either before or after the events.


I think it is well past time that we really consider how many people actually are involved in the right wing, America hating Trumpist movement, and how much the whole thing is nothing but a giant version of the tea parties from a decade ago- a huge charade, created by dishonest press coverage and dishonest polling.  If these people ever do manage to provoke the "civil war" that they hunger for, I think there is a pretty good chance they are going to turn out to be a pack of paper tigers, vanishing in the mist when real Americans stand up to put them down.

Hamas

  Of ocurse I am going to take the opportunity to talk about the Hamas attack on Israel.   First, I'd like to talk about my background, or baggage, regarding the country.   I have lived in Israel, some years ago.   This was not for religious reasons; I spent several months there working on a movie.   During pre-production, weeks of location scouting and shooting the movie, I was all over the country, and spent a fair amount of time in the West Bank, where we also shot.   This included a lot of places that normal tourists would not see, including predominantly Arab areas such as East Jerusalem, the Arab quarter of the old city, Ramla and the southern part of Jaffa, which is predominantly Arab.   It also included heavily Orthodox areas like Mea Shearim.   I dealt with Israeli Arabs, Palestinians and Bedouins.     Here are a few things I believe I learned there:   First of all, the Palestinians I knew were perfectly normal people with the same interest in living a safe, secure
