The Face of Things To Come

If Americans persist in voting for Republicans.  I was led to the following two articles by a post at Daily Kos, which I am unashamedly plundering, because this is such an important story.

First, this:

"Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview Thursday that he will propose removing nearly all public employee collective bargaining rights to help plug a $3.6 billion budget hole.
Under Walker's immediate plan, all collective bargaining rights would be removed for state and local public employees starting July 1, except when it comes to wages. But any salary increase they seek could be no more than the consumer price index, unless voters in the affected jurisdiction approved a higher raise.

Contracts would be limited to one year and wages would be frozen until the next contract is settled. Public employers would be prohibited from collecting union dues and members of collective bargaining units would not be required to pay dues.

The proposal would effectively remove unions' right to negotiate in any meaningful way.

Democrats almost certainly will unite against the proposal but are powerless to stop it. Republicans control the Assembly 60-38-1 and the Senate 19-14."

And as if this denial of workers' basic rights isn't enough, here's the capper:

"Gov. Scott Walker says the Wisconsin National Guard is prepared to respond wherever is necessary in the wake of his announcement that he wants to take away nearly all collective bargaining rights from state employees."

In case there is anyone out there too stupid to figure it out, this is open, unapologetic fascist oppression of workers, including the threat to use the military to put down organizing efforts which have been recognized as legal and fair for close to a century, in every civilized country.  I don't want to hear one person complain when I compare this behavior toward workers to that of Adolf Hitler in 1933.  That's exactly the appropriate analogy, and anyone who still thinks that Republicans give a God damned for the freedom and welfare of 99% of the American populace is a fool.

As cynical as I am, I never thought I would live to see this in our country.

If this law is enacted, people, fascism is here in the United States.  If the Republicans can get away with it in Wisconsin, it will spread like a melanoma until we are living in a totalitarian dictatorship, and like melanoma, it may reach the terminal stage within a year or two.  Then, good bye to everything we thought made this country special, brought to you by liars screaming about patriotism every step of the way.
