Republicans Use Supposed Deficit Cutting as Tool to Slash Needed Programs

There is no end to the duplicity and dishonesty of Repubicans.  And here's one more big example.  Remember all of the promises they made before election day to cut the budget?  And notice that they are still blabbing away about it every day?  Well, here, from Daily Kos, is a partial list of what the Republicans intend to do in the way of budget cutting:

Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies   -$30M
·         Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy   -$899M
·         Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability   -$49M
·         Strategic Petroleum Reserve   -$15M
·         Energy Information Administration   -$34M
·         Office of Science under the Energy and water spending bill   -$1.1B
·         Department of Treasury   -$675M
·         Internal Revenue Service   -$593M
·         GSA Federal Buildings Fund   -$1.7B
·         International Trade Administration   -$93M
·         Economic Development Assistance   -$16M
·         Minority Business Development Agency   -$2M
·         National Institute of Standards and Technology   -$186M
·         NOAA   -$336M
·         Law Enforcement Wireless Communications   -$52M
·         US Marshals Service   -$10M
·         FBI   -$74M
·         State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance   -$256M
·         NASA   -$379M
·         NSF   -$139M
·         Legal Services Corporation   -$75M
·         EPA   -$1.6B
·         Food Safety and Inspection Services   -$53M (FY10)
·         Agriculture University Research   -$246M
·         Natural Resource Conservation Service   -$60M
·         WIC   -$758M
·         International Food Aid grants   -$544M
·         FDA   -$220M
·         Land and Water Conservation Fund   -$348M
·         EPA ENERGY STAR   -$7.4M
·         EPA GHG Reporting Registry   -$9M
·         USGS   -$27M
·         EPA State and Local Air Quality Management   -$25M
·         Fish and Wildlife Service   -$72M
·         National Park Service   -$51M
·         Clean Water State Revolving Fund   -$700M
·         Drinking Water State Revolving Fund   -$250M
·         Forest Service   -$38M
·         National Endowment for the Arts   -$6M
·         National Endowment for the Humanities   -$6M
·         Job Training Programs  -$2B
·         Community Health Centers  -$1.3B
·         Maternal and Child Health Block Grants  -$210M
·         Family Planning  -$327M
·         Poison Control Centers  -$27M
·         CDC   -$755M
·         NIH   -$1B
·         Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services   -$96M
·         Community Services Block Grant   -$405M
·         High Speed Rail   -$1B
·         FAA Next Gen   -$234M
·         Amtrak   -$224M
·         HUD Community Development Fund   -$530M

The total savings from these proposed cuts?  $19,838,400,000, or approximately 1.33% of the projected 2011 federal budget deficit- a virtually insignificant delivery on their promises.  But here is what these cuts would accomplish:  gutting Federal environmental protection, Federal efforts to promote energy efficiency (hurting the oil companies' potential profits,) food safety enforcement, health care assistance for women and the poor, HUD efforts to promote growth in poor communities, the Centers for Disease Control, Federal promotion of science and the arts, even the FBI, poison control and the efforts of the FAA to protect air passenger safety.

This is what the Republicans really want.  They don't give a damn about the budget deficit (as proven by the fact that virtually the entire national debt is due to their behavior) but they are furious that a nickel of Federal money be spent on anyone but the rich.

The Republican party is nothing but a criminal conspiracy to loot the wealth of our country, and reduce everyone but the top hundredth of one percent of us to total poverty and dependence. They are consciously, willingly working to turn us into a miserably third world oligarchy, filled with people so desperate that they will accept whatever crumbs the rich care to give them.  And millions of stupid, greedy Americans are willing to slit their own throats to make it happen.

We can just imagine the GOPers' frenzied orgy of vengeance in drawing up that list.

If only this country could survive with one or two less aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines.

We sure can't cut our war spending, now can we? Not just no, Hell no!

If they were serious about cutting the budget, they would go after the Defense budget. It is the single largest item there. But they won't. You see, the Defense budget is also the single largest give away to big business.

They won't support the common American, but they will give hundreds of billions of dollars to warmongering, child-killing, defense corporations.

The GOP says "Bombs, not people".

Long live the military-industrial complex.

And how about the subsidies to the most profitable business in the history of mankind, the oil business?
Or how about seeing that huge corporations like GE pay some taxes?

There are a lot of ways to raise money if the Republicans really wanted to cut the deficit, instead of just keeping Democrats from spending money on ordinary people, so there is that much more to loot when Republicans are in control.
