The Grand Parade

Image
Here's a story from the Washington Post today, about what would be what I have already seen described as the most Trump thing ever.  Green Eagle knows how hard it is for most Americans to keep their minds on text, so he has taken the liberty of studding the article with diverting photos.  Here's hoping you enjoy it: "President Trump’s vision of soldiers marching and tanks rolling down the boulevards of Washington is moving closer to reality in the Pentagon and White House, where officials say they have begun to plan a grand military parade later this year showcasing the might of America’s armed forces." "Trump has long mused publicly and privately about wanting such a parade" "Trump’s seemingly abstract desire for a parade was suddenly heard as a presidential directive, the officials said." "White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement confirming that plans are underway." "A date has ...

Treason Part Two

Image
Of course, as always happens with the hateful, piggish things that Trump spews out, Republicans are now all trying to claim that Donald Trump was just kidding when he called Democrats traitors for refusing to stand and cheer him at the State of the Union address. For the record, here is Trump actually making the accusation.  I had to look at two dozen different videos of this before I found one that allowed me to show you the words of our President, without having to sit through a commercial first, which should be outrageous to any American.  Anyway, I am sure that you find this guy as sickening as I do, so let me tell you that you can go to about the 2:10 mark to hear the pertinent remarks. Take a look, if you can stomach it, and decide for yourself whether this subhuman monster was kidding when he stated that it is treason for someone to not worship him in public.  Until the utter devolution of the Republican party into lawlessness and hatred, apparently licensed ...

Treason

Donald Trump today, in a speech in Ohio, speaking about Congressional Democrats that failed to give a standing ovation to his canned State of the Union applause lines: “They were like death. And un-American. And someone said ‘treasonous.’ Eh, why not? Can we call that treason? Well, why not?" Failing to cheer the great leader Trump?  Treason. Collaborating with a hostile foreign dictator to rig the election?  Just fine. Three observations here: 1.  This man is stark raving mad, and suffering from delusions of his own grandeur that have reached the point where he may be legitimately suspected of being schizophrenic. 2.  The rest of his party is just fine with that, as long as he continues to advance the interests of their rich backers. 3.  And given the first two observations, this country is hovering on the brink of actual, out and out fascism.  How long will it be now, as the net is closing in on Trump, before he acts on the claim that ...

A Personal Tale

Image
I don't normally use my blog to tell personal stories, but something happened to me yesterday that really changed my thinking about what is happening on the left side of the political spectrum, and not in a good way. I was somewhere with an acquaintance from the neighborhood, when someone, who I had only met once, came up and sat down.  I do not want to be specific enough about this person to allow anyone to identify him, but he is very well known in progressive circles, with a public history going back at least a couple of decades.  I am sure that the great majority of people who read a blog like this would recognize his name.  I had always respected his work, which seemed well researched and presented. In the course of the conversation, the subject of the effect of Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for President, came up.  After what happened in the 2016 election, I would have thought that the devastating effect of the votes that Stein and Bernie Sanders si...

Ha...They Just Can't Stop Trying to Hide the Truth

If it helps Republicans; and of course I am talking about the mainstream press.  Here's an above the line story from the Washington Post today (no link for junk like this:) "The U.S. government is set to borrow nearly $1 trillion this year, nearly double last year’s amount" "Set to borrow..."  Do you think for one second that if Trump were a Democrat following a Republican, this headline would not read "Budget Deficit to Double in First Year of New Administration"? Just for the record, after the previous Republican administration caused a gigantic increase in the budget deficit, President Obama reduced it by over two thirds, in the face of constant Republican pressure to give more government money to the rich.  Now, in one year, Trump is doubling the deficit.  How much of the Republican screaming that we heard over the eight years of the Obama administration do you expect to see now? _________________________________________________________...

Wingnut Wrapup- Watergate Times a Thousand Edition

Image
Today's post respectfully dedicated to Sean Hannity, who made the above remark about "Watergate times a thousand."  And he's right, too- in a way.  Watergate, as criminal as it was, never involved open treason, which Trump has clearly committed, and that makes this a thousand times worse than Watergate. And let me note here once again, how common a tactic this is for Republicans: accusing their opponents of exactly what the Republicans themselves are doing.  This is often written off as projection, but that is wrong.  Projection is a psychological problem, and that is not what is going on here.  Republicans, who know perfectly well that they are constantly up to every sort of evil, long ago adopted the strategy of accusing Democrats of everything Republicans themselves do wrong, as a conscious ploy to muddy the waters through convincing people that every politician acts that way, so there is no reason to hold Republicans responsible for their crimes.  Th...

The Memo

As many of you may now have heard, Trump and Devin Nunes have conspired to release Nunes' both laughable and contemptible "memo,"  which is now available.  For those of you who may not have seen it, I am going to reprint it in full at the end of this post, but first, a couple of words: As any of you who may have seen any sane accounts of the memo in the last couple of days (I particularly recommend the detailed report from last night's Rachel Maddow show) will already suspect, it is a contentless diatribe, which focuses entirely on the Steele Dossier.  It contains numerous misleading slanders of Christopher Steele himself, without ever noting that, as the former head of Russian intelligence at MI6, he is one of the world's leading authorities on Russian spying.  It fails to point out that the original FISA warrant against Carter Page (the source of all of the Republican sturm und drang ) was issued long before the Steele dossier was known, and obviously did not ...
