The Right Ratchets It Up a Notch
Here we go- a post from the fairly mainstream right wing Newsmax. A number of blogs have latched onto this one, and I'm going to join in:
Obama Risks a Domestic Military ‘Intervention’
By John Perry
"There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic."
A last resort, of course. I mean, they wouldn't have any other choice, right?
America isn’t the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized."
Oh, of course. A civilized military coup. How nice.
"That it has never happened doesn’t mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it."
Of course not. Really. There isn't the slightest sign in your remarks that this is what you want. You're just "describing."
"Officers swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Unlike enlisted personnel, they do not swear to “obey the orders of the president of the United States.”
Top military officers can see the Constitution they are sworn to defend being trampled as American institutions and enterprises are nationalized. "
So of course, the answer is to have a military coup. But don't forget, it will be a polite one. That will certainly constitute defending the constitution, won't it? Those military officers will be able to comfort themselves that, by seizing control of the government, and creating a dictatorship, they are preserving our constitution. Yes sir. That's obvious. Washington and Jefferson would be so proud of them.
"What happens if the generals Obama sent to win the Afghan war are told by this president (who now says, “I’m not interested in victory”) that they will be denied troops they must have to win? Do they follow orders they cannot carry out, consistent with their oath of duty? Do they resign en masse?"
Following orders given by the commander in chief. No, that would never do. He's black- let's not forget that.
"Or do they soldier on, hoping the 2010 congressional elections will reverse the situation? Do they dare gamble the national survival on such political whims?"
Because two years of Obama will destroy everything that our country is supposed to be about. Much better to have a military dictatorship.
"Anyone who imagines that those thoughts are not weighing heavily on the intellect and conscience of America’s military leadership is lost in a fool’s fog."
If these thoughts are "weighing heavily on the intellect and conscience of America's military leadership," they belong in prison for crimes against the state. You forgot to mention that.
"Will the day come when patriotic general and flag officers sit down with the president, or with those who control him, and work out the national equivalent of a “family intervention,” with some form of limited, shared responsibility?"
Ah yes. Shared responsibility between the elected president and a military junta. I remember that from the last time I read the constitution, yes sir!
"Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars."
A bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution. Military trained nation builders. Have you ever, in your life, heard of an idea at once so vicious, so criminal, so hateful and so ludicrous all at once? Have you ever heard anything, even from the mouths of Hitler or Mussolini, which is more foreign to our constitution and our country?
"A coup is not an ideal option, but Obama’s radical ideal is not acceptable or reversible.
Unthinkable? Then think up an alternative, non-violent solution to the Obama problem."
Well, here's one idea. Wait until 2012 and try to vote him out. But maybe that idea doesn't seem as constitutional to Republicans as a military dictatorship.
Remember when one of the Dixie Chicks said that she was ashamed to be from the same state as George W. Bush? Remember the endless shrieks of outrage and hatred that were directed at her? But this is okay. It's okay for a Republican to call for military dictatorship as a better alternative to a Democratic President. It's okay for them to mindlessly claim that military rule would uphold our constitution. It's okay for them to make a mockery of everything that made this country work.
So this is where we have come to. Ten months of a Democratic president, and Republicans are openly advocating military dictatorship.
The question, unfortunately, is not where we have come to, it's where we are going to end up.
Update: From the weasels at Newsmax: "After several reader complaints, Newsmax wanted to insure that this article was not misinterpreted. It was removed...."
Don't worry, guys. We're not misinterpreting this article. There's not a chance that we are going to do that.
Not a chance.
If you want to read the original, seeing as how Newsmax has cravenly removed it, here's a link to the cache. Believe me, there's more to disgust you there.
Further Update: From Confederate Yankee: "Far too many people are swallowing... Perry.... as coming from the right ..., when this coup talk is really coming from the left"
Newsmax- the left. Boy, they really can't take responsibility for anything, can they. Of course, naturally it's the left that is advocating a coup against our socialist leader.

Comments
Made all the way back in 1962 by John Frankenheimer.
In the film a fictional president ( a real fictional one, not Dubbya in the first term ) makes a deal with the Soviets to destroy all nuclear weapons, which upsets a group of military leaders who set about attempting a coup d'etat.
Interestingly the novel is actually set during the aftermath of a stalemated war in Iran.
Not that the traitorous dog that you're quoting would care... but if they actually succeeded in a military overthrow, America would be poison to every other civilized country in the world.
Forever.
No-one would ever trust you again, and the dream of America would be dead.
