My Favorite Part in the Declaration of Independence

In the list of charges against King George III:

"He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages..."

You don't hear that much about this particular passage.

The Oneida and Tuscarora fought for the rebels. On the British side, Joseph Brant, chief of the Mohawks, thought his people had no future under an independent America. He was right. Except he would have had no future regardless once the British had seen the French off.

Last week Daily Kos quoted major party platforms re American Indians.
This from the Republican one: "Just as the federal government should not burden states with regulations, it should not stifle the development of resources within the reservations"... Three guesses what that means.

Well, they are merciless savages, so you would expect them to have a little more appeal to the Republicans.
