Well, Yeah, Actually

Big question of the day, from Curtis Dahlgren at Renew America:

"Do You Want the Ivy League in Charge of your "Health?"

Well, actually, yeah. That doesn't sound like such a bad idea to me.

Curtis, if you want to go to the "Christian" doctors from Regent University, be my guest. I'll stick with Harvard and Yale, if it's okay with you.

But thanks for caring.

Oh good grief... they're saying "no smart people please"..?

Heck I'm not fussy...
Instead of dying in the gutter because I can't pay, I'd have Poison Ivy in charge of my drugs, the Joker in charge of hospital maintenance and Catwoman in charge of my chiropractic services.

Then at least it could be said that SOMEONE would be taking an interest in my medical situation.

Is Princeton-Plainview Ivy League? Cause I'd like that House guy to take care of all my ills.
It's no surprise they want idiots in charge of their health care GE. They loved Bush in charge of our Country.

I don't want Ivy League in charge of my health. I want to be in charge of my health.

Funny how you love to shirk responsibility on others.

That's pretty much it, I guess.

And Derek, when you defend the indefensible, you just make yourself look silly.
Good luck diagnosing and operating on yourself Derek. Will you be selling tickets?

Harvard Doctors are so... so... "uppity" . Read the comment from Harvard Medical School Dr. Alvin Poussaint Professor of Psychiatry: Harvard Medical School is a place where you can pick up the phone, call up Nobel Prize winners, and talk to them about your own professional goals.

Who the fuck wants to talk to Noble Prize winners? They love Obama and they are Obama!!!! And Obama's never done anything and is powerless wimp overseas while simultaneously being another Islamo-Hitler at home!

I am not saying that I will do tests on myself or that I will self medicate, rather, that I will decide when I get what. I am intelligent enough to rationalize if I need treatment or not.

How about an example? I was prescribed vicodin for my knees (PFPS and my left PCL is messed up due to an old wrestling injury). I opted to not take the meds because I felt as though they were unnecessary.

Maybe we are arguing semantics here. Are you suggesting Ivy League should make your health decisions for you or are you saying you want them to be your healthcare provider?

I'm ok with letting Ivy League doctors treat me, but only if I get to have total control over what goes on.

Any patient will almost always have the option to refuse treatment no matter who is running the health care system, but when insurance companies run the system not everyone is offered treatment - not even a two year old girl who is too small for her age or a 16 pound newborn deemed obese each denied coverage by 2 different health plans in Colorado. Too small at 2? Obese at birth? Don't all kids develop at different rates?

I'm no fan of government, but I'd rather have someone I elect to look after my interests oversee the administration of my health care than a corporation that profits from denying me service.

Luckily there are more than 2 health plans in colorado. Everyone has healthcare, period. You can receive whatever treatment you want under our current system. Under Obamacare, your choices are limited. Not to mention waitlists would be huge, we'd be even more in debt, and we'd be allowing a huge unconstitutional expansion in our government.

IF YOU CAN PAY FOR IT YOURSELF!

If, like me, you count on your insurance to pay for relatively new, but still accepted cancer treatments you will find they are deemed "experimental" and not covered. To pay for them you will have to mortgage your house, sell your car and beg, borrow and steal.

Yep, or if you have an insurance plan that covers it. If you cant afford either, medicare gives you the treatment you need, you simply can have as many elective procedures.

Maybe you should stop reading a blog and figure out how to get better insurance.
