Obama- Colossal Failure

I can't be bothered to document the endless derision from the Republican fifth of the country, because Obama didn't singlehandedly bring the Olympics to Chicago. I'll just bring you this sample, from the opening minutes of Michael Medved,s show today. I didn't get it all, because I was writing it down longhand, but here's what he had to say:

"The sound in the room is jubilation... How sweet it is. My birthday is tomorrow. This is an epic birthday gift....There is nothing that can make me happier than this....because President Obama is humiliated."

Remember when one word of criticism of a certain corrupt, stupid, incompetent, illegitimate, ignorant, criminal president was treason?

I wonder what changed.

I suppose it is Obama's failure... his failure to fully restore America's honor in the eyes of the world, and overcome the raw hatred inspired by the Bush/Cheney cadre, in the 9 months he's been in office. I personally find it hard to argue that we are not a nation of capitalist pigs as well when the Republican Party ignores their elected responsibilities to govern in order to put as many roadblocks as possible in the way of positive change.

Cardinal,

Just from one bird to another, I agree with you a hundred percent.

In this case, though, I think the Olympic committee really wanted to give the games to Rio, because they have never been in South America before. I can't say I disagree with their reasoning, even though the rest of the world has good reason to hate us, and ten months of Obama is hardly enough to get them to forget.

G.E.,

I think there's more to it than the desire to have the first South American games. There are deep rifts between the USOC and the IOC, which should probably stand for Imperial Olympic Committee. That the games, as they exist now, could not continue without American television money sticks in their craw and makes them resentful. But my real bet is that Brazil was more able to slide some considerable bribe money to IOC members than Chicago was after the Salt Lake City revelations. Our continued Puritan delusions keep us from doing business the way the rest of the world does, but I'm not sure, in the end, that's a bad thing.

I agree with everything you say. I guess I was just emphasizing my belief that a lot more was going on here than whether the Olympic committee was mesmerized by Obama's speech. These things are the result of a whole lot of things, the majority of which have long played out before the committee even meets.

And as for bribery, at least we noble Americans can rest peacefully knowing that no one in our country would stoop to such a miserable thing, right?

Oh wait.....
