Had Enough Yet?

So, we now have a Presidential candidate who has: Collaborated with the spy service of Russia to undermine the US electoral process. Threatened mass violence if his opponent wins the election. And now, who had deliberately and openly incited the assassination of that candidate. Amazing, isn't it, how many Republicans, and members of the so-called press, are just writing all of this off, and pretending that this is just a typical election. With Trump's behavior yesterday, things have really spiraled into deep waters.  I have an idea about this, which I have not heard anyone discuss.  I'm not saying it is true; Trump may very well be the Hitlerian monster he is playing.  But here's another possibility: We all know that Trump has one of the most diseased egos the country has ever seen.  He has inseparably tied his self-image to being a "winner."  His psychological makeup, despite all of the advantages he has had in life, is incredibly fragile, and he si...

Wingnut Wrapup

Let's just clear out the accumulated detritus here, as I may not be able to deal with this for a couple of days. Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "Paul Ryan Is Going To Be Fine" Because Republicans don't care if he is a craven worm, as long as he promises to cut their taxes.  Even when we have twenty years proof that he is lying.  They still fall for it every time. Pat Buchanan, Town Hall:  "After the crushing defeat of 1964, Govs. Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney and William Scranton, whose principles required them to abandon Barry Goldwater, discovered that, when the cheering of the press stopped, they carried the mark of Cain.  As national leaders, they were finished. As national Republican leaders, of course.  No displays of "principles" allowed there. Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "What Venezuelans Make An Hour Under Socialism Is Appalling" You've got to get a laugh out of this one- a Republican getting indignant about a government set...

A Blogging Note

I'm leaving town again, on Monday, for some work in another city far away.  This may limit my blogging for a few days, but never fear- I'll be back to normal soon.  What is coming in this country is going to be too much to miss.

The Real Campaign Reset

Republicans are still caught maundering about Trump and a reset for the Presidential campaign, after the primaries.  Well, given the absolutely nauseating job that Trump is doing, it is time we prepare for the real reset that we are about to see: the reset of the hatred, the lies and the smears, ratcheting them up to an ever higher level in their effort to batter Hillary into the ground.  I'd like to quote from an article in the Washington Post, detailing today's effort in that direction from the Trump campaign.  It's a lot to quote, but I want to make sure that you see that it's not a few left wing bloggers saying this; something is really happening which is unprecedented in American politics. "Donald Trump unleashed a series of nasty personal attacks Saturday against his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, mocking her appearance and questioning her mental health several times during a New Hampshire campaign rally and on social media." We have seen inc...

Clint's for Trump!

Who could have know, when this happened: That he was speaking to the guy who would become the party's nominee four years later?

A Plea to Dwayne Stafford

Know who Dwayne Stafford is?  Well, I certainly didn't either until about two minutes ago.  Dwayne is an inmate in South Caroline who gave right wing terrorist murderer and infantile jerk Dylann Roof a punch in the face. Right on, but Dwayne, please don't kill him until after the trial.  The entire country needs to have rammed down its throat what right wingers are talking about when they call themselves "patriots." They all need to see Dwayne explain exactly why it was okay to gun down nine black people in a church. After that, be my guest: do whatever you want to him.  Nothing could be worse than he deserves.

A Milestone In Self-Delusion at the New York Times

Yeah, and here it is: "Donald J. Trump’s success with working-class whites has emboldened conservative thinkers to press their party to reshape its economic canon to more directly benefit workers it often takes for granted." You mean, to find a new way to lie workers into thinking that the party gives a God damn about them? Because it has not for a hundred years, sacrificing them en masse in the 1920's in order to enrich further the already rich, knowing perfectly well what that would inevitably lead to in the end.* “What it means to be a conservative is up for grabs,” said Reihan Salam, the executive editor of the conservative National Review." All that is "up for grabs" is who can craft the biggest new lie to tell to their ignorant, hate-filled base, in the hope that we can have a few more decades of economic chaos, with the price always paid by anyone else than those who cause the problems. As has been demonstrated by Thomas Piketty and his te...
