Trump and the Black Journalists

At least, here's my take.  As usual, the entire mainstream press corps seems to have devoted about two minutes to thinking out what happened.  First of all, they act like Trump just decided to show up for this event.  Anyone who has ever worked on a campaign knows this appearance was scheduled weeks ago, when Biden was still running.  At that point, Trump's advisors thought that there was a chance that he could take perhaps 15% of the black vote away from Biden, a not unreasonable goal considering the results of the 2020 election.  That might, in a close election, be just enough to throw a couple of States to Trump and put him back in the White House.

Well, before he could show up, along comes Kamala, and Trump's hopes of making inroads with black voters pretty much went up in smoke.  So he had zero motivation to show up at this event and act like a decent human being, his least favorite activity on earth.  That resulted in his changing his entire goal for this appearance.  Oh, he'd mouth the idiocy that Kamala was not really black, because maybe it could cost her some support among stupid black voters, but instead of playing nice with his black audience, he did the exact opposite, because all he could accomplish at this point was to be vicious and hateful to the black reporters, which we all know would be mana from heaven to his white racist base.  And that is what he did.  With no chance of wooing any new voters at this event, Trump just used it to further fill his own base with anger and hatred, their two chief reasons for voting at all.  And, I suppose, for all the good that might do, it worked.  They loved his bullying, his hostility and his utter contempt for his black audience.  I don't see how that gets him a single new vote, but he obviously had a lot of fun acting like a complete dick.

That didn't stop Rasmussen, the most Republican supporting "pollinng" organization in the country from revealing a new poll today showing Kamala up by six points (!) on Trump, but he might as well get what satisfaction he can, at this point.

Anyway, that's my story and I am sticking to it.
