Hottest

Yesterday was the hottest day in recorded history.  This story has gotten a fair amount of coverage, but I think that everyone should be aware of this fact.

We are on the verge of wiping out civilization, if not all human life on earth.  Still, deeply evil people accept money far dirtier than Judas' thirty pieces of silver, to spread propaganda that this is not happening.  These people are mass murderers, and they should be treated that way.

Please refrain from hyberbole that does nothing but benefit deniers. It is true that climate change is on track to destroy many trillions worth of capital, and to kill or immiserate many millions of poor or third world people. It is also true that reluctance to play probablity games with poorly surveyed sources of positive feedback (CO2 and methane from exposed peat and tundra soil, and possibly from methane clathrates along temperate continental rises) has caused most models to be too conservative. However, no model sees Earth in any danger of becoming Venus; and industrial knowledge can't be erased in the many countries that remain habitable.

Sorry, Rick, but the fear that global warming will overrun civilization or even destroy the human race is not hyperbole. As I have reported over the years, we are about to see the homelands of half a billion people in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia rendered uninhabitable, as well as those of hundreds of millions more in South and Central America. And this is just the beginning. The Earth does not have to become Venus in order to destroy human civilization; just a few more degrees of warming in the next century will do the trick quite nicely.
