The Beast Slouches Toward All of Us

Or, The American Taliban Strikes.

As Rod Serling might say, I introduce you to one David Lane.  David works for the American Family Association, listed by the SPLC as a hate group.  It was founded by Donald Wildmon, one of the people most responsible for mainstreaming right wing Christian intolerance, and features as a spokesman Bryan Fischer, one of the most vile hatemongers in the country.

Well, David Lane's activities range far beyond the reprehensible AFA.  He has served as an adviser to  Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Michelle Bachmann and others, and is currently a director of outreach for the Presidential campaign of Rand Paul.

Well, Mr. Lane has managed to achieve quite a feat.  He had an opinion piece published at World Net Daily, which was so upfront that even the crackpots at WND couldn't take it, so they removed it.  Luckily for us, significant portions of it were saved, thanks to the blogs Dispatches from the Culture Wars and The Immoral Minority.  The mindset that these excerpts reveal is so frightening that I believe that the surviving fragments need to be carefully examined.  Remember that these are the words not of some far out fringe character, but an adviser to at least four of the potential Republican candidates in the 2012 Presidential election.  Well, here is what David had to say:

"Throughout Scripture, the only power that can overcome the seemingly invincible omnipotence of a Babel or a Beast is the power of martyrdom, the power of the witness to King Jesus to the point of loss and death. American Christianity has not done a good job of producing martyrs, and that is because we have done such an outstanding job of nurturing Americanists who regret that they have only one life to give for their country. Americanists cannot break Babelic or bestial power because they cannot distinguish heretical Americanism from Christian orthodoxy. Until we do, America will lurch along the path that leads from Babel to Beast. If America is to be put in its place – put right – Christians must risk martyrdom and force Babel to the crux where it has to decide either to acknowledge Jesus an imperator and the church as God’s imperium or to begin drinking holy blood.”

If that was a lot to absorb, let me hit the main points.  According to this, the opposition to their version of Christianity comes from "a Babel or a Beast" i.e. Satan.  And the only "Christian" remedy to this bestial power is "martyrdom," or "drinking holy blood," i.e. violence against all of their opponents, who are to accept their rule or die.  Christ must be acknowledged as a "imperator."  This is a term derived from a title bestowed on Roman emperors, and denotes to these people a worldly ruler- in other words, our country must be run as a religious dictatorship, with all things ruled by their interpretation of the Bible.

"Where are the champions of Christ to save the nation from the pagan onslaught imposing homosexual marriage, homosexual scouts, 60 million babies done to death by abortion and red ink as far as the eye can see on America? Who will wage war for the Soul of America and trust the living God to deliver the pagan gods into our hands and restore America to her Judeo-Christian heritage and re-establish a Christian culture?"

You see, liberals are not people who differ in opinion from them; they are bestial tools of a pagan God, who must be destroyed.

"As to the future of America – and the collapse of this once-Christian nation...Christians must be retrained to war for the Soul of America and quit believing the fabricated whopper of the “Separation of Church and State,” the lie repeated ad nauseum by the left and liberals to keep Christian America – the moral majority – from imposing moral government on pagan public schools, pagan higher learning and pagan media.  Bill Bennett’s insight, “… the two essential questions Plato posed as: Who teaches the children, and what do we teach them?” requires deep thought, soul-searching and a response from Christian America to the secular, politically correct and multicultural false gods imposing their religion on America’s children."

Again, notice that this is cast as a cosmic battle between good and evil, in which these intolerant bigots have claimed the role of the godly, and in which all who disagree with them are worshipers of "false gods," who must be eliminated.

"You ask, “What is our goal?” To wage war to restore America to our Judeo-Christian heritage with all of our might and strength that God will give us. You ask, “What is our aim?” One word only: victory, in spite of all intimidation and terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, America will ultimately collapse."

"Let me be clear. The currency used by the present generation of Christian “inside the Beltway” D.C. leaders – press conferences, press releases and getting a shout-out on the evening news – is no longer viable; political action by spiritual political operatives and candidates is required. The old model used by the policy boys – seemingly sane and skillful a generation or two ago – has taken us over the cliff. Christian America is in ruins... Christian America must war to make our nation a better place for our kids and grandkids."

Theocratic war.  And as you can see from the above, they do not mean a war of words, they mean violent murder and destruction to force their evil will on the vast majority of us.

Do I even need to point out that this is exactly the agenda of Al Qaida and the Taliban?  And this sick, violent, hate-filled so-called religion has now reached the point where its proponents are advising several Republican Presidential candidates.

I have insisted for years that this is the end goal of the Republican party:  Theocratic terrorism to control the people of the United States, while the hyper rich are free to plunder the country until it is sucked dry.  I have also pointed out that this is the traditional track of terrorism:  incitement by those who would never dirty their hands with action, but which inevitably induces unstable and alienated people to carry out the violent destruction which they crave, which lies behind so much of their "religious" fervor.

I have watched as this sickening perversion of religion and decency has grown from a minuscule number of fools in this country, to a major influence on one of our two political parties.  And I warn you now: look closely at Syria, at Pakistan, at Iran, because if these people are not stopped, that is the world your children will live in.

Mr. Eagle,

What this form of Christianity teaches is that obedience is the primary good. I'm sure your familiar with Milgram's obedience studies, those findings are the result of that teaching. When Marx said that religion is the opiate of the masses, it was the notion of obedience to government and acceptance of wealth inequality that he was talking about. You may or may not like Marx, but it is undeniable that he was not an idiot. The whole idea of obedience to government and acceptance of inequality is something that we need to study and talk about.

Joseph, I reread the Communist Manifesto a couple of years ago. Here is what I took away from it: In light of our experience since it was written, it is clear that Marx made some very wrong assumptions about the viability of the Communist form of government that he was advocating, but his analysis of the inevitable progression of Capitalism seems more valid today than it ever did. I challenge anyone to read Marx and not see how much of what he predicted for the capitalist world has come true.
