The Hidden War

There is an unobserved political war going on in this country.  I have absolutely no concrete evidence that this is true, but I am going to positively assert it as utterly obvious. One army in this war is led by Paul Ryan, and includes every Republican that thinks Ryan would favor them in the future. The other army is led by every Republican who sees himself or herself as a potential Presidential candidate in 2020.  And judging by past performance, that is quite a horde. And here is what the war is over:  Paul Ryan, as the Speaker of the House, is the only person who can pull the trigger on the massively appropriate impeachment of Donald Trump.  And he is not going to do that until he can involve Mike Pence sufficiently to pull Pence down with Trump, making Ryan President.  And that would spell the end of any chance the other Republicans have to become President in 2020. Watch behind the curtain.  There is not a Republican on earth who is not out fo...

March for Trump!

Image
I reported a few days ago on the predictable humiliation that the first round of pro-Trump demonstrations, called for by Trump himself, turned out to be.  Well, here's the rest.  I don't want to beat this thing into the ground, so I will just show a few random pictures: The one in Nashville (second to last picture) seems to have gotten several hundred people, which is still pathetic, but the rest were gigantic failures as usual, including the one in Washington DC, which seems to  have attracted about 200, as opposed to the 500,000 that showed up for the Women's march a few weeks ago.  We'll just note this one down for history, and move on.

Wingnut Wrapup

It's been a while, but it's a little hard to get worked up about what some doofus in St. Louis thinks, when we have a raving lunatic in the White House.  anyway, here we go: Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "Sorry Liberals, Ellison and DWS Remained Seated During Roughy Two-Minute Standing Ovation Honoring Fallen Navy SEAL's Widow" This is more important than two hundred Republicans in Congress conspiring to cover up treason.  And by the way, it's not true, not that that matters to Republicans. Leah Barkoukis, Town Hall"  "Cruz Defends Sessions Over Russia Report: It's a 'Nothing Burger' Treason: a nothing burger.  A legal lesson from the Republican party. Cal Thomas, Town Hall:  "Trump Reinvents Himself" One speech during which he did not degenerate into a shouting, spittle flecked maniac undoes two years of piggishness and hatred. Jim Jamitis, Red State:  "Maryland Democrats Pick Chris Matthews’ Wife As State Party ...

Do You Know Who This Is?

If not, you should take a moment to find out, as his story is likely to be very relevant in the coming months.

Jeff Sessions...

In the words of the immortal umpire Ron Luciano: "Out out out out out!" ...And this is getting ugly really fast.  The head of the House intelligence committee just said this to some reporters that tried to ask him about Sessions: “Look, I’m sure some of YOU have had contact with the Russian embassy so be careful what you ask for he, if we get transcripts of you or other Americans talking to the press, then we can…do you want us to conduct an investigation on YOU because you were talking to the Russian embassy?” So, if members of the press dare to try to investigate treason in the White House, they may be persecuted by Congress.  This is a perfect example of how democracy works when you let Republicans control all three branches of government.  And it only took one day to get to this point.  There must be a hell of a lot that we still don't know if they are in such a panic about this.

Further Adventures of Trumpy

Well, let's see what President Trump has gotten up to in the last two days.  He has:       Blamed Obama for the leaks coming out of his own staff.       Blamed the generals for the failure of a raid in Yemen, which he cooked up over dinner with         Bannon and his son in law.       Implied that the recent wave of bomb threats and vandalism directed at Jewish targets were actually done by the Jews themselves, to make his Aryan supremacist supporters look bad.       And then he delivered a speech.  A speech filled with lies and hollow promises; a speech whose only virtue was that Trump did not dissolve into a vicious, abusive tantrum against someone who disagreed with him. And the response?  Well, apparently the mainstream press has decided to get back to their primary duty of insuring that the American buy into whatever vicious garbage the Republicans feed them.  Enough "stand...

Access to Health Care Coverage

Maybe I just noticed this, or maybe it actually is the latest thing in the endless Republican lie about health care coverage.  Here's Trump yesterday: " First, we should ensure that Americans with pre-existing conditions have access to coverage, and that we have a stable transition for Americans currently enrolled in the healthcare exchanges." As I heard someone point out, access to coverage is not coverage. If someone offered you a health care plan that cost $10,000 a day, you would have access to coverage, but a fat lot of good that would do you.  Republicans are obviously hoping that the American people will not notice the difference.  And they are probably right.
