Bernie, Do We Even Need to Tell You This?

Just how lost in the forest has Bernie Sanders gotten?  I would have thought that it was unnecessary to even comment on the grotesque stupidity that led Bernie to publicly announce that he is ready to have a "debate" with Donald Trump, but I see people taking the whole thing seriously, so I guess it needs a reply.

There is no such thing as debating with Donald Trump, since what he does is not debating but an exercise in egomaniacal bullying.

It is not a conversation, but a circus act, and everyone else on stage is nothing but a straight man in Trump's performance.  Bernie will find himself subjected to a combination of belittling derision, and the constant suggestion that Bernie run as a third party candidate, because Hillary is so bad.  The result:

A win for Trump, who will get another chance to perform in front of a national audience.

A loss for Bernie, who will be made to look like a total fool.

And a loss for Hillary, who will end up being subjected to a nationally televised evening of vicious, lying abuse, with Bernie thoughtfully providing a whole new audience for Trump's disgusting vaudeville act, some of whom will inevitably fall for it.  On the other hand, not one single Trump supporter could possibly be persuaded to switch to Bernie, because they want hatred and racism, not constructive policies.

This should be the final piece of evidence to convince everyone that Bernie Sanders has run totally off the rails, and is so hungry for victory that he has thrown out every thing he claimed to believe in, in return for a microscopic chance to win the Democratic nomination.  This has been a degraded performance, from which, I predict, Bernie will never recover.

Update:  Trump today, announcing that he will not debate Bernie:

"Based on the fact that the Democratic nominating process is totally rigged and Crooked Hillary Clinton and Deborah Wasserman Schultz will not allow Bernie Sanders to win, and now that I am the presumptive Republican nominee, it seems inappropriate that I would debate the second place finisher."

There you go.  Democrats can only win by cheating, Bernie is a loser and Hillary is a crook.  A message brought to the nation thanks to the dedicated work of  Trump campaign surrogate Bernie Sanders.  Good job there, Bernie.

Let's try to have a little more confidence in Sanders debating Trump. He is a US Senator and has debated the Democrat's best pick, HRC. It will be a show, but it will be substantive. Trump will beat up an "old man" and give us a preview of how he will treat Clinton. This is a great scouting opportunity for the Clinton camp and a great "what if" scenario for us progressives who prefer Bernie.

There is no good reason for Sanders to debate Trump, and there is no bad reason for Trump to debate Sanders.

It would be more appropriate if they find a fifth grader to debate Trump. And my apologies to the 99% of fifth graders who are more mature than the "insecure money-grubber" (thanks Liz Warren).

Isaac, please see my update to this post. Even though Trump backed out of the debate, he managed to accomplish in a small way exactly what I was talking about: he ridiculed Bernie, smeared Hillary, and accused the Democratic party of being corrupt, all with a rapt audience of mainstream media toadies ready to repeat every word. Anyone could have seen that this is all it would come to; thank heaven this is the end of it, because if the debate had happened, it would have been exactly the same, only far worse.

Dog Whistle Alert: "Deborah Wasserman Schultz." Debby becomes Deborah because it's more ethnic.
