Something to think about from Matt Kennard at Salon today:

"Since the launch of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. military has struggled to recruit and reenlist troops. As the conflicts have dragged on, the military has loosened regulations, issuing "moral waivers" in many cases, allowing even those with criminal records to join up. The lax regulations have also opened the military's doors to neo-Nazis, white supremacists and gang members — with drastic consequences. Some neo-Nazis have been charged with crimes inside the military, and others have been linked to recruitment efforts for the white right.....Many white supremacists join the Army to secure training for, as they see it, a future domestic race war. Others claim to be shooting Iraqis not to pursue the military's strategic goals but because killing "hajjis" is their duty as white militants. Tom Metzger is the former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and current leader of the White Aryan Resistance. He tells me the military has never been more tolerant of racial extremists. "Now they are letting everybody in," he says. In fact, since the movement's inception, its leaders have encouraged members to enlist in the U.S. military as a way to receive state-of-the-art combat training, courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer, in preparation for a domestic race war. When it comes to screening out racists at recruitment centers, military regulations appear to have collapsed."

These are almost random samples from a long article. Feel free to click on the link for lots more, if you can take it.

I make this prediction with, unfortunately, absolute certainty: these people, let into our military because George W. Bush couldn't get enough decent soldiers to fight his miserable war in Iraq, are going to form the core of a new militia movement, which is going to materialize in this country with frightening speed. Those of us who hoped that Terry McVeigh put an end to this malignant nonsense once and for all were wrong. All it took to bring the vampire back from its grave was the election of a black President. God help us if the terrorist attacks we have seen in the last few weeks turn into group violence.

Unfortunately, much more is to come on this subject, like it or not. I'll leave you with this image of the banner of one militia group, picked at random, which I found online. I think you can guess where these guys are coming from.
