Change We Can Believe In

From the NYT:

"Senate Approves Tight Regulation over Cigarettes
Obama Set to Sign Bill"

Do you think for a second that this bill would have passed in a Republican controlled Congress, or that President Bush, or for that matter President McCain would have signed it into law?

While there are people that are quite disappointed with the stances Obama has taken on some issues, let us not forget that, every day, he and the Democratic Congress are moving forward with substantial improvements that we never would have seen if Republicans had won in 2008.

The bill is expected to reduce youth smoking by 11%, and adult smoking by 2%. Surely, the tens or hundreds of thousands of lives that this bill may eventually save are as important as the fate of the few remaining prisoners at Guantanamo, or any short term delays in the inevitable legalization of gay marriage.
