Repubs Disappointed in Sonya

I've seen this on several left wing blogs this morning, I guess I'll jump in on the fun too:

"Nominee little boost to GOP

Nearly a month after President Barack Obama picked her for the Supreme Court, Republican senators say Sonia Sotomayor isn’t serving as the political lightning rod some in their party had hoped she would be.

“She doesn’t have the punch out there in terms of fundraising and recruiting, I think — at least so far,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), who most likely will be elected as the No. 4 Republican in Senate leadership this week. "

Very thoughtless of that Barack Obama guy. How does he have the nerve to pick a Supreme Court nominee who isn't helping you pander to your ignorant, hate-filled base? Well, he owes you one. Next time, he'd better pick Al Sharpton.

First things first, the Republican agenda is no way hate filled, if anything, it is less so than the democrats.

Republicans have a problem with Sonya not because she is latino (the 1st latino SCOTUS was appointed by a republican), or that she is a woman, it is because she rules from the bench and often doesn't pay attention to crucial Constitutional arguments made by plaintiffs/defendants.

Ricci v. Destefano anyone?

Derek,

The comments section of a blog is obviously a totally inadequate place to discuss judicial decisions; however, that was not the point of my post. It was that, as usual, Republicans see even their most important responsibilities as nothing but a means to seek partisan advantage. I was not defending Judge Sotomayor at all; I was commenting on a remark that revealed the out of control partisanship which has subsumed the Republican party.
