He Can Do Whatever He Wants

Well, the Children in Concentration Camps issue cerainly seems to have taken off, even if not many people with a real voice dare express it as starkly as I do.  Anyway, everybody wants to talk about it, but as far as I am concerned, not a single comment I have heard is willing to get to the real point of Trump's inhumanity toward immigrant children.

Yes, of course, this is part of a systematic stirring up of race hatred and a lust for violence in his base, to hopefully get them out on election day and keep the Republican party in charge.  That in itself is one of the most miserable things that has ever happened in the history of our country, at least since the days of slavery and beating down the Indians.  But as malignant as it is, I believe it is only secondary to another purpose of this behavior, which up to this point, no one, from whatever end of the political spectrum, has been able to face.

For, I believe, the main purpose of this behavior is to make it clear that Trump has the power, and will use that power, to destroy the lives of anyone who stands up to him.  It is part of a campaign to inure the American people to the use of sadism and violence by the President to get what he wants. If he can put innocent children by the thousands in concentration camps, he can imprison, or even kill his opponents without fear of being stopped.  This is the right that he is now claiming.  And it is all too clear from his behavior that he will use it if he is allowed to have it.

We are at another Rubicon in our nation's descent into fascism.  With this program, our President is taking for himself the right to destroy anyone or any group that is a part of anything he dislikes or doesn't want to happen.  And please note that this is not the "sort of" Fascism that people maybe whispered about a year or so ago; this is the real thing, as blatant as anything Hitler or Mussolini ever did, short of taking those kids and gassing them.  But that didn't start in Germany until Hitler had been allowed to run hog wild for years; when Hitler had been in power as long as Trump has, he was still just locking his opponents up and maybe having them beaten, kind of like Trump today.

Well, welcome to today's America.

Blogger Screwed Me

I have discovered that out of nowhere, Blogger is refusing to send me e-mails notifying me of comments that people had made on my posts.  I don't really know how long this has been going on, but I am afraid it is for some time.  I noticed I was not getting any comments, but assumed that, because I haven't been posting much lately, people just stopped reading my blog.  But that doesn't seem to be true.  I'll try to get this straightened out, but in the meantime I think I will maybe stop content moderation until I do.

How To Get A Federal Pardon

Make a movie!  Well, the right kind of movie, of course.  Dinesh D'Souza can show you the way:
And here is the copy that goes with this one sheet:

"CAN WE SAVE AMERICA A SECOND TIME?Not since 1860 have the Democrats so fanatically refused to accept the result of a free election. That year, their target was Lincoln. They smeared him. They went to war to defeat him. In the end, they assassinated him.

Now the target of the Democrats is President Trump and his supporters. The Left calls them racists, white supremacists and fascists. These charges are used to justify driving Trump from office and discrediting the right “by any means necessary.

But which is the party of the slave plantation? Which is the party that invented white supremacy? Which is the party that praised fascist dictators and shaped their genocidal policies and was in turn praised by them?

Moreover, which is the party of racism today? Is fascism now institutionally embodied on the right or on the left?

Through stunning historical recreations and a searching examination of fascism and white supremacy, Death of a Nation cuts through progressive big lies to expose hidden history and explosive truths.

Lincoln united his party and saved America from the Democrats for the first time. Can Trump—and we—come together and save America for the second time?"CAN WE SAVE AMERICA A SECOND TIME?"

I can't wait to see the trailer.

Wingnut Wrapup- Summit Edition

Boy, I bet this photo comforts you about the state of the world.

Anyone with even a grain of sanity left knows that the Great Negotiator got his pants stolen by Kim Jong Un at the great Summit Of The Two Leaders.  So it's going to be tough for the winguts to find a way to spin this as a victory for Trump, but they are going to give it a hell of a try.  Here we go:

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "Denuclearization: President Trump and Kim Jong Un End Historic Summit With Signing Ceremony"

Signing what?  Apparently Trump agreed to stab South Korea in the back by ending long standing joint military exercises, in return for nothing.  No sense mentioning that, however.

Streiff, Red State:  "The Trump-Kim Summit Was Not a Failure but It Did Disappoint"

Not a failure to Kim, perhaps, who got a major defense concession from Trump, and recognition on the world stage.  As for Trump, it is only a failure if the American press tells the truth about what happened.  Fat chance, huh?

"...now the real battle begins: that of competing narratives."

I.e. between the truth and the inevitable Republican propaganda line, portraying a humiliating collapse by Trump as a diplomatic masterstroke of nine dimensional chess.

"Having acknowledged that the U.S-DPRK summit — the first in history — was an epochal event of great significance in overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries and for the opening up of a new future, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un commit to implement the stipulations in (their) joint statement fully and expeditiously."

Fat chance.  Kim got exactly what he wanted from this meeting, without giving up a thing.  Why would he capitulate now?  Do you think he gives a God damn what Trump thinks about him or says about him, after Trump administration officials have called for his death on numerous occasions, only to collapse right in front of his eyes?

Bridget Johnson, PJ Media:  Trump Agrees to Stop U.S.-South Korea Military Exercises, Says He Trusts 'Very Talented' Kim"

Oy.  Talented like Trump, in being born into a rich family.  A very useful talent, as it turns out.

PJ Media Staff:  "Trump makes history."

He sure did.  So did this guy, who also was a right winger who thought you could trust a dictator:

Hey, you know what's funny?  Every time Obama did anything he got compared to Chamberlain by Republicans, but so far not a single one of them has compared Trump's performance at the summit to Chamberlain.  Funny, huh?

David P. Goldman, PJ Media:  "Trump Could Be One of America's Great Foreign Policy Presidents"

Ha ha.  He could give it all up tomorrow and register at Hogwarts too.  Just about as likely, since either one of these outcomes is a total fantasy.

Tyler O'Neal, PJ Media:  "Inside Germany’s Thriving Nudist Culture"

Oops, that didn't have anything to do with North Korea.  Sorry.  Sometimes Green Eagle has trouble staying on topic.

Bridget Johnson, PJ Media:  "Kudlow: Trump Lashed Out at Canada as Show of Strength to North Korea"

Finally, proof that telling a big enough lie can give you a heart attack.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "AMAZING! Trump Showed Kim Jong-Un Powerful Video Promising “A New World”

I'm not going to make you watch this video, which is on virtually every right wing website this morning.  You can find it easily enough if you really want to see it.  It is one of the stupidest pieces of propaganda you will ever see.  Hopefully Kim got a good laugh out of it, because it sure didn't have any other effect on him.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "PRESIDENT TRUMP Shows Kim Jong Un an Inside View of “The Beast” After Historic Summit"

He showed him the inside of his car!  I bet that blew Kim away.  A massive diplomatic victory!  This is how pathetically far even a liar like Jim Hoft is having to go to find anything good to say about Trump's performance at this "summit."    Or how about this vital reporting:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Kim Jong-Un Arrives at Summit Meeting with President Trump – Carrying Briefcase (VIDEO)"

CARRYING BRIEFCASE!!1!111!!!!!    A major scoop missed by everyone else!

And oh, I guess we can afford to include a little something that isn't about the summit:

Pat Boone, World Net Daily:  "Warning: Divine judgment awaits Trump-haters"

Okay then.  Pat Boone.  Right.

Pat quotes the Bible:

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.  Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God … and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.”

A Bible quotation that was appropriately suspended during the administration of a Black President, but then Republicans always know best about the will of God, right?

Thomas Lifson, American Thinker:  "Kim Jong-un flies home to sell the deal to the North Korean ruling elite...In order for this deal to move forward and realize its potential, Kim is going to have to convince the rest of the Pyongyang power elite to go along. I now find myself in the shocking position of rooting for the brutal dictator to succeed."

Rooting for a dictator for the first time.  That's only because you were too young to have rooted for Hitler.

David Prentice, American Thinker:  "None of us, no one I have read, no one I know, expected Donald Trump to be a giant in foreign policy.  No one expected him to reshape the world."

And hey, if turning your back on our democratic allies in favor of love affairs with dictators makes you a giant, that's just what he is doing.  Hooray!

Joel Pollack, Breitbart:  "Nancy Pelosi Trashes Trump over North Korea Summit…But Called Iran Deal ‘Diplomatic Masterpiece"

That's called telling the truth, Joel, something I know you don't have a lot of familiarity with over there at Breitbart.  Oh well, when they've got nothing, I guess Pelosi is a good bet to fall back on.

Breitbart:  "Oncologists Protest After Officials Release Latest Cancer Revelation: DID GERMANY BURY A TRUE CURE FOR CANCER?"

Off topic again, but I just wanted to point out to you that you never see things like this at Daily Kos or Crooks and Liars.  I think I can be pretty confident in telling you that any website that promotes Cancer quacks can't be trusted about a single thing.

Well, enough of this.  The same pathetic rationalizations are everywhere in wingnut world today, but you've had a fair sample.  Let's just go out on this:

Before It's News:  "The Kim/Trump Summit, the Rothschilds and the Financial War Are All Linked"

Because of course they are.

The mainstream press, of course.  Two headlines in the Washington Post today about Donald Trump humiliating himself in front of a miserable 32 year old dictator:

"The summit was a triumph of Trumpian stagecraft. The media fell for it."

And as if deliberately trying to prove the truth of that comment, here is the current lead story in the Washington Post:

"Trump-Kim summit yields hope for breakthrough but no guarantees"

What it actually leaded was an utter collapse by The World's Greatest Deal Maker, and a gigantic loss for the United States, but God forbid that the Washington Post or any other mainstream news source should say that in clear language.  The media fell for it, all right.

Nobody is making the media "fall for it," of course.  They are falling for it because that is what they are paid to do, and if it destroys the country in the process, so what, as long as the checks don't bounce.

A Helpful Suggestion to Bring Back Coal

As everyone knows, there is nothing that means more to Green Eagle than helping our President come to the aid of the (white) working class that he cares so much about.  Of course, there is no white worker that Trump cares more about than coal miners, so Green Eagle wants to propose a sure fire plan to bring the coal industry roaring back to life in the United States:  coal powered cars!

Why didn't anyone ever think of that before?

Well, they did, so it's time for a little Green Eagle History Lesson.  In fact, here is the first car ever produced on a commercial basis, in the 19th century:
This was a steam car, which could be powered by wood or coal.  Of course, steam cars are not really very practical, so Green Eagle went looking for a car with a more traditional combustion engine which could be powered by ground coal.  It turns out that during the worst European fuel shortages during World War II, some cars were actually converted to run on ground coal injected into the cylinders.  Here's an example, from a certain European country famous for its involvement in the war:

And very visually appealing. Well, maybe that could work out today.  And of course, Trump might turn for inspiration to the following vehicle, also coal powered:
This truck is manufactured in that industrial powerhouse, Trump's new best friends, North Korea.

Well, here is my proposal for the executive actions that Trump might want to take:

First of all, declare a national emergency and remove all environmental restrictions on coal powered vehicles, which are of course massive sources of pollution.

Second, take a few billion dollars away from useless government programs like health care for children, who after all contribute nothing to the national economy, and devote it to a massive program to build plants to grind coal into fine dust, and work out whatever minor problems occur in modifying auto production to produce coal powered cars.

And third, ban any car company from the United States market that does not sell at least 20% coal powered vehicles.  This would make it impossible for virtually any foreign car company to sell cars in the U.S. since they depend on world-wide sales and no one on earth (except apparently in North Korea, not the world's most active car market) would want one of these things unless it was forced down their throats.  It would be a field day for American car companies and their inferior products.

And finally, designate the entire State of West Virginia as a site for mountaintop removal.  I mean, when you are on a roll, why not?

This program would vastly increase the number of people needed in the coal industry, as well as screwing all those foreign car companies.  What's not to like?

Celebrate America, Hooah!!!

So as you may have heard, the spoiled little infant Trump "disinvited" the NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles after it became clear that most of them were going to humiliate him by not showing up (hooray for them.)  Instead, he decided to hold a "Celebrate America" rally instead.  Oh boy!

Well, any long term readers of Green Eagle know how much I like to report on the actual size of right wing demonstrations, which is inevitably a huge embarrassment to them, or would be if the mainstream press didn't systematically ignore the truth.  So, here are a couple of pictures of today's event:

As usual,  I always try to base my comments on the evidence of the largest possible attendance at these events; let me note that I have spent a pretty fair time searching online, and these are the two photographs showing the largest views of the "crowd" at this pathetic sham rally.

Let me make a couple of observations about this.  First of all, the vast majority of all mainstream press accounts of this event carefully avoided showing a single view of the crowd, which from these pictures barely numbered a few hundred.  You know if the crowd were large, it would be all over the news, but I had a lot of trouble finding these two pictures.

Second, check out how many of the attendees are in suits, very unusual for a rally, but probably an indication that the majority of people in the crowd were Republican staffers; the number of voluntary attendees appears to be less than a hundred or two.  By way of reference, here's a crowd that spontaneously turned out to celebrate the Washington Capitals' victory in game three of the Stanley Cup:
And here is a photo of the crowd that attended the actual Philadelphia Eagles victory parade after this year's Super Bowl:

No comment necessary, I think.

So once again, the Republicans generate a synthetic media event, claim its pathetic turnout represents a majority of the American people, and the press dutifully reports the Republican party line as the truth.  In reality, there is no sign that the massively funded and Russian rigged "election" of Trump represents a damned thing except a collusion of rich sociopaths and a foreign dictator to seize control of our government, which seems to have worked, and will go on working as long as the press lets the lying continue.

Update:  Courtesy of Mock Paper Scissors, here is a photo of the "crowd" at Trump's event taken from the front:

At the risk of being repetitive:  I count 102 attendees in this photo, although I didn't try too hard to be super accurate, so I could be off by a few.  Yes, there are clearly some more people off to the sides, so let's be generous and say there were 200 in the audience, for an event that Trump publicized for a couple of days.  Furthermore, you can see that most of these people are clearly Republican staff members, not the sort of people that show up for rallies.  In brief, virtually nobody turned up at this jerk's pathetic, jingoistic event.  And yet that fact, which should be the clear message drawn from this humiliating occasion, has been totally ignored by the press.

Employment- Trump and the Press Collaborate Again

You have probably heard by now that Trump released the May job numbers AN HOUR EARLY!!! which has been widely reported everywhere, even though not one person in a thousand knew that this was not supposed to happen.  This gave the mainstream press a wonderful chance to hail the number of jobs gained in May as an absolutely unprecedented success, showing how great the economy is because Republicans are in charge again.

What is the reality behind these claims?  Well, let's look at a little evidence.  Here is a chart of monthly job gains since 2013:

Unprecedented success?  I have added the red line to illustrate the fact that there were 24 months in the last five years of the Obama administration with job gains greater than the number for last month, as well as two from the Trump administration.  So, what happened this last month was not so impressive after all.  In fact, it would be well to look at this chart to get a grasp on the truth:
Here is the truth in plain view:  A colossal explosion in unemployment was the result of the 2008 collapse of the economy, which was caused by Republican economic depredation.  Within short order, actions taken under the Obama administration, which would never have been considered under any Republican, set the unemployment rate on a steep downward path, which it has continued to follow, at least to this point in the Trump administration.

The notion that Donald Trump, or any other Republican, deserves a shred of credit for this is patently ludicrous.  And yet the mainstream press has collaborated with the Republican party and the rich sociopaths that own it, to tell just that story, which the American people are, in large part, accepting as the gospel truth.  In fact, I saw a poll recently that suggests that once again the American public is turning to the idiotic and self-destructive notion that Republicans are better at running the economy than Democrats.

And that is how the Republican intend to win elections in November: through the ignorance of the American people, who are carefully fed a constant series of lies by the Republican owned mainstream press.  As I have stated so many times before, the number one rule of American politics is that the Democrats could crush the Republican party out of existence without effort; what they cannot do is crush the Republicans and the press working together.

Wingnut Wrapup- Great Negotiator Edition

I don't really do much in the way of wingnut wrapups any more, but I thought it would be fun, on the very day of the collapse in utter humiliation of the Great Negotiator's greatest negotiation, to see right wingers scrambling to explain away his failure.  I am sure they will come up with even more imaginative (and piggish) excuses in the coming days, but here are their initial attempts:

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "BREAKING: Trump Writes Kim Jong Un Epic Letter Cancelling Upcoming Summit"

Epic.  An epic whine.  The letter itself is a laughable piece of self-justifying belligerence from a guy who totally misplayed his negotiation and got taken by a 31 year old dufus.  But to right wingers, it's EPIC!

Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "Eyeroll: Nancy Pelosi Says Trump's Letter To N. Korea Probably Gave Kim Jong-un A 'Giggle Fit'

Hey, congrats to Matt, who managed to turn Trump's latest self-induced humiliation into an excuse to mention Nancy Pelosi, at which point every good Conservative puffed themselves up in outrage and totally ignored the substance of the story.  Good play there, Matt!  And this seems to be developing into a popular right wing line:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Crazy Nancy Pelosi: Kim Jong Un Had a “Giggle Fit” When Trump Called Off Summit"

Well, now the whole story is not about the colossal negotiating failure of the "greatest negotiator on earth," it's about Nancy Pelosi being crazy.

Jennifer Van Laar, Red State:  "Early Thursday, after the Rocket Man’s latest temper tantrum, the White House announced that the planned June summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un was off."

Rocket man's tantrum!  Standing by the position he has had all along, and objecting to being threatened with annihilation by deranged warmonger John Bolton and Christian lunatic Mike Pence- that's a tantrum.  Trump stomping out like a jilted boyfriend, well, that's Presidential.

Streiff, Red State:  "President Trump has pulled the plug on the planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that had been scheduled for June 12 in Singapore. This is how this came to be.  It was apparent to everyone watching that North Korea’s definition of denuclearization did not extend to an independently verifiable eradication of North Korea’s nuclear weapons stockpile and its ability to make future weapons."

The North's "definition of denuclearization;" i.e. Trump and Bolton's definition of denuclearization, which consisted in "you give up everything, we give up nothing," which anyone who has followed this story or has a shred of sense knew was never on the table at all.

"And during his meeting with South Korea’s President Moon, President Trump said he didn’t know if the summit would happen. Probably both sides were concerned that neither would have anything to bring home."

And here comes the rewriting of history to lie away the obvious truth that Trump got totally conned by Kim, who got the recognition as an equal from Trump that he wanted without having to give up a thing.

The points (Mike Pence) made were that North Korea had to give up nuclear weapons, that there would be no let up in sanctions before the US had seen concrete evidence of denuclearization...

Something that North Korea has made clear from the beginning was never on the table.  But that is what Trump promised his base, so he had to tank the talks rather than fail to deliver.

"And...he warned North Korea to not try “to play” Trump and that the Muammar Qaddafi solution was always available if he didn’t denuclearize."

I.e. if Kim didn't give Trump what he wanted, Trump would have him killed.  Great international diplomacy there.  I wonder why Kim didn't go along with that.

Bridget Johnson, PJ Media:  "Trump Tells 'Mr. Chairman' in 'Truly Sad Moment' That North Korea Summit Is Off..."I felt like a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me... some day, I look very much forward to meeting you," president writes."

A wonderful dialogue, including, as I mentioned above, Trump's threats to kill Kim if he didn't give Trump what he wanted.  "Negotiation," New York mob style.

Another classic bully strategy:  run and hide behind mommy and yell taunts at the guy who totally beat you down.  And let's just be clear about this:  Any conciliatory gesture is interpreted as weakness by Trump, who knows nothing but bullying and petty meanness, so he is going to tell his equally malign followers that he won a great victory when actually he was humiliated by the juvenile leader of an impoverished country less than a tenth the size of the United States.  And in the process he humiliated our whole country- something which will be totally missed by the kind of jerks that think it makes them tough to wander around the streets with an assault rifle on their backs.

And now the inevitable "black is white... who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes" approach to the subject:

Sandy Fitzgerald, Newsmax:  "Dershowitz: NKorea Decision Bolsters Trump's Deal-Making Bonafides...President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was one that plays into his "strong suite," Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Thursday.  "He knows how to make a deal."

He knows how to make a deal?  Not making a deal proves he knows how to make a deal? Running for cover shows strength? And yet, you know that his base will absolutely swallow the entire notion that this colossal failure was a success, and that somehow getting snookered by Kim Jong Un, of all people, proves he is a great negotiator.  God help us.

"In his letter to Kim, Trump said he was pulling from the summit "based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement."

That would be when Kim called Mike Pence a "political dummy."  No word from Trump about whether any anger and hostility was displayed by Mike Pence when he threatened to have Kim murdered if he didn't go along with what Trump wanted.

"I think once he heard what the leader of North Korea said about the United States, said about our vice president, he had no choice but to walk away"

How about the choice of acting like an adult and stopping his vice President from making mindless threats against foreign leaders?

"(Dershowitz) also pointed out that North Korea has not yet shown the world that it can send a missile to the shores of the United States."

Is Dershowitz suggesting that maybe it would be a good idea for North Korea to do that?  I mean, what exactly is he saying here?

And of course, how could they miss this take on the whole thing:

David French, National Review Online:  "Good Riddance to the North Korea Summit"

That's the answer- just follow orders and forget that the whole gigantic disaster ever happened.

Newsmax:  "Pompeo: Next Move Up to NKorea"

And I am sure it is, just as soon as Kim Jong Un figures out a new way to humiliate Trump, something he seems to be rather good at.  Stay tuned.

Collector's Item

If you got one of these, hang on to it...there aren't going to be that many around, I suspect.
Tired of winning yet?

Update:  I guess they've got to unload their stock.  Thanks to The Week, this notice at the White House website:
They've cut the price!  This man has absolutely zero shame when it comes to making a dollar off of anything, even when it just advertises his own humiliation.  He doesn't even have the decency to stop selling a permanent record of his own incompetence.  Oh well, his base will find a way to turn this colossal failure into a masterstroke of strong leadership, so I guess it's okay.  Maybe they can mint a medal commemorating his walking away from the summit like some jilted lover pretending that they were the one who decided to break up.

Vegas Shooter a Gun Nut

On October 1 of last year, as most people will sadly remember, a man in Las Vegas barricaded himself in a hotel room and began shooting at a concert below his windows, killing 51 people and injuring over 800.  The man seemed to be a prosperous middle class man with no known connection to terror groups, and his motives for this monstrous act seemed doomed to remain forever a mystery.

Now, however, it seems that the mystery has been dispelled.   In an extremely important report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which will predictably be virtually ignored, we learn the following, as reported by Adam Peck, at Think Progress:

"Evidence suggests Las Vegas shooter was motivated by pro-gun conspiracy theoriesBefore killing 51 people, Stephen Paddock shared his pro-gun conspiracy theories with numerous witnesses...

Just days before the massacre, at least two people told police that a man they believed to be Paddock ranted to them about federal government efforts to impose gun control measures. Another witness recounted how a man thought to be Paddock shared his belief that a “camp” set up by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was in fact “a dry run for law enforcement and military to start kickin’ down doors and … confiscating guns.”

There's more at the article, which I suggest you read.

51 dead at the hands of a right wing gun nut, led into his violent rage by the lies of the Republican party and the NRA.

I don't even have the energy any more to go into one more rant about what the right is doing to this country; I just want to add to the record of their hatred.  Not that it will do any good, since to the Republican base, this sort of violence is a good thing, not an abomination, and it's clear at this point that no one is going to convince them differently.

Addendum:  A few days later, and there is a post up at Daily Kos pointing this out:

"Police documents about the Las Vegas shooter show he's a right-wing terrorist but no one will say so"
No one but Green Eagle, I guess.

Six Democrats We Can Do Without

"WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate confirmed Gina Haspel on Thursday...
Among Democrats supporting Haspel are several who are up for re-election this fall in states where Trump is popular, including Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Sen. Bill Nelson in Florida. Other Democrats voting yes were Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire."

I don't give a God damn that some of these assholes are running for re-election in States that voted for Trump.  If supporting torture is okay with them, they have no place in my party, and the sooner it repudiates every one of them and finds a winnable replacement, the better off the country will be.

There's Actually Another Name For That

From the Washington Post today:

"The Trump administration is making preparations to hold immigrant children on military bases, according to Defense Department communications"

There's another name for that, as I am sure you know:  concentration camps.
Coming to a country near you.

Next time some right wing jackass tries to tell you that the Republican party is not on the way to turn this country into a replica of Nazi Germany, remember this.  And then tell them to fuck off, when they tell you that it's only for illegal immigrant children, so it's okay.  "First they came for the Jews," and all that.

The big difference this time around? Instead of finding some poor sociopath to play the role of Hitler, they picked one of their own, to see that no subhuman action of their was allowed unless a rich guy made a huge profit off of it too.  That makes it twice as good, as far as they are concerned.

Here's a little excerpt from an article about a concentration camp for children in Lodz, Poland, run by the Nazis:

"During the German occupation, a concentration camp for children was established in the city of Łódź...Where did the terrible idea of setting up a children’s camp come from? Shortly after entering Poland, Germans became aware of the issue of orphaned and homeless children.  From 3,000 to 5,000 children were imprisoned in “Little Auschwitz.”

Don't allow yourself to think for one second that this is going to end up any different, if the Republican party is not crushed.

Joke of the Day

From the Washington Post:
"CIA nominee says she would obey her moral compass, not Trump, if told to carry out questionable activities"
Moral compass!  The "moral compass" of someone who approved and carried out torture in the first place!  The moral compass of someone who engaged in illegal destruction of evidence to hide that torture.  That's some moral compass you have there, lady.
"She resisted efforts by senators to get her to say whether she believed it was morally wrong to use techniques such as waterboarding on terrorist suspects."
Her "moral compass" can't tell her whether it is okay to torture people, but by God, she will rely on that moral compass. She wouldn't ever engage in "questionable activities," as long as we understand that those activities would have to be a lot worse than torture and destroying evidence before she would consider them questionable.

And that is good enough for Republicans.

"Senators were visibly frustrated at Haspel’s unwillingness to say definitively whether she believed it was wrong at the time to waterboard terrorist suspects."

Democratic senators, that is, as the Washington Post carefully avoids pointing out.

"Haspel said she had a “great reputation” with Trump and his inner circle"

Well, that's a comfort, particularly given the overwhelming likelihood that every Republican in the Senate will vote to confirm her.

Let us be clear, this woman is evil, in the most literal meaning of the word, just like John Bolton, Jeff Sessions, Scott Pruitt, Betsey deVos and just about every other person appointed by Donald Trump, who incidentally is evil too.  But that's okay with Republicans if these evil people will go along with more big paydays for the rich, because that is all that government is for, at least with them in charge.  So a little thing like being an evil person on the level of SS or Gestapo agents really isn't a disqualification these days.

Possibly The Dumbest Suggestion I've Ever Heard

Rudy Giuliani, from a story in the Washington Post:

"Giuliani says Trump doesn’t have to comply with a Mueller subpoena and could invoke the Fifth Amendment...

President Trump would not have to comply with a subpoena issued by the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and could invoke the Fifth Amendment if he does sit down with him, one of his lawyers said Sunday.

“We don’t have to” comply with a subpoena, Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former New York mayor who recently joined Trump’s legal team, said in an interview on ABC News’s “This Week.” “He’s the president of the United States. We can assert the same privileges other presidents have.”

A little unclear there whether Rudy is saying that other Presidents "have" this privilege, or that other Presidents have used the privilege.  As far as I can recall, no other president has actually ever pleaded the fifth, as they call it, in our country's history.

And it should be noted that not only other Presidents,  but mob bosses, serial killers, and in fact every person on earth has the privilege to refuse to testify because it might incriminate them.

There-see how easy it is, as demonstrated by Tony "Big Tuna" Accardo during the 1951 Kefauver hearings.

Naturally, there are few spectacles I would rather see than the ignorant jackass Trump spending two public hours trying to lie his way out of his corruption and treason, but as some sort of consolation prize, I will take his pleading the fifth amendment, as long as it is in public and on camera, showing as much respect for our American legal system as that displayed by Tony "Big Tuna" Accardo.

Unless maybe he'd like to utilize another successful legal stragegy, employed by Enron head Ken Lay before his sentencing:  "I'm dead.  So fuck you, what are you going to do about it now."

Cinco de Marxo

For those who have not noticed (that would be just about everybody) today is the 200th birthday of Karl Marx.

If you have never read any Marx, or if it is a long time and you don't remember much, I want to strongly recommend that you read some of Das Kapital, or the Communist Manifesto.  I am not for one second going to argue in favor of Communism- its history shows that it depended on some utterly implausible ideas about the perfectability of humankind that Marx got from Hegel, and which turned out to be totally groundless.  Instead, just read his analysis of Capitalism and where, in 1850 or so, he saw it headed.  I am convinced that you will find what he has to say chillingly prophetic- probably the most accurate long range economic prediction in history.  It is a deeply disturbing read, and well worth your time.

Thursday, May 3, 2018

So what we have learned today is that Donald Trump has made a series of payments to Michael Cohen over the last year or so, in the amount of apparently about $460,000.00 to cover his payoff to Stormy Daniels, taxes owed on that payment and whatever the hell else Cohen has done for Trump.  These payments are being referred to as "retainers."

Well, these payments are not retainers.  Yes, Cohen is an attorney, but passing hush money to a prostitute does not constitute legal work.  If I paid Cohen a couple hundred dollars to lube my car, that wouldn't make him my attorney, and neither does this make him Trump's attorney.  To be blunt, this does not constitute an attorney-client relationship, merely because Cohen happens to have (for the moment) a law license.

So, here is my question:  I am not an attorney, so I guess that I am just speculating here, but what I wonder is, does that mean that there is no attorney-client privilege in this matter?  Will Mueller, who certainly does know what the law says, be moving tomorrow to remove the special master, and treat every scrap of information seized from Cohen as fair game?  As I said, I don't really know, but it seems to me that there is a pretty damned good case to be made for this action. We'll see, I am sure.

Apres Moi le Deluge?

So we hear today about Donald Trump's replacement of his longstanding (for him) lawyer Ty Cobb with a guy named Emmet Flood.

Don't recognize that name?  I must admit that it rang only the faintest of bells to me, but Emmet Flood is a guy who is almost entirely known for having defended Bill Clinton during the Republican impeachment nonsense.

I've already heard all sorts of speculation from the as-usual willingly clueless mainstream press about what this means.  What I haven't heard from anyone, of course, is this simple fact:  If you expect to be tried for burglary, you don't hire a corporate attorney, and if you need to have someone write a real estate contract, you don't hire a divorce lawyer.  The fact that Trump is hiring a lawyer known for defending people being impeached says it all.

Only Donald Trump really knows what he has done, and why he did it.  The fact that he is hiring Emmet Flood is a huge clue about where he thinks this is all going, and as far as I am concerned, is a massive reveal of Trump's consciousness of his own guilt.

More Treason

From the Washington Post this morning, this story:

"President Trump's national security adviser said Tuesday that the president's decision to reveal highly classified information during a meeting with Russian officials last week was "wholly appropriate" — the latest attempt by the White House to contain the explosive disclosure that Trump potentially  jeopardized a crucial intelligence source on the Islamic State.

H.R. McMaster, the president's top security adviser, repeatedly described the president's actions in a press briefing just a day after a Washington Post story revealed that Trump had shared deeply sensitive information with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during an Oval Office meeting last week."

How many of these incidents, in which the President of the United States deliberately sabotages the security interests of the United States in order to benefit Russia, are going to have to happen before more than a few people will admit in public that he is a traitor?  We have had a constant series of actions like this, since right after he was elected and he tried to do away with sanctions on Russia, but the masses of people that claimed to see something evil in inexplicable complaints about Hillary' e-mails or Benghazi, refuse to acknowledge what is right in front of their faces.  Putin put him in office, and he is paying him back.  That's the reality today, but the vast majority of Americans, including virtually the entire mainstream press, won't admit what is completely obvious.

Sinclair Lewis once said that when Fascism comes to the United States, it would be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.  Well, here it is, only instead, it's wrapped in lies and carrying dollar bills.  To hell with patriotism and religion; greed is all it took to get the majority of Americans to abandon their kids, their own future, and even the continued existence of the human race itself.  And they just don't care; a promise of a couple hundred dollars less in taxes is all it took to get them to sell us all down the river.

Truer Words Were Never Spoken

Rudy Giuliani, on the announcement that he is becoming one of Trump's lawyers:

"I’m going to join the legal team...The country deserves it."

At this point, who could disagree?

“I’m going to ask Mueller, ‘What do you need to wrap it up?’ he said.”

How about a guilty plea to treason?  See if you can work that plea deal out, Rudy.  At this point, I am wondering if there is a thing in the world that they do not regard as a gigantic joke on all the rest of us.  Except for stealing our money to give to the likes of the Koch brothers and the Mercers.  That isn't a joke; it's the only reason they are alive.

Just a Very Minor Point

Call me crazy, and I certainly hate to defend anyone from the Trump administration, but I think a cabinet secretary has a right to fly first class.  Come on, every sleazy businessman and kid of a rich father flies first class; I think it's perfectly reasonable for one of the very highest officials of our government to do the same.

Cohen and Casey- Remembering the Iran Hostage Sabotage

Michael Cohen, sadly only looking like he is being pinched by the long arm of the law.

Most of us have some awareness of the Iran hostage negotiations in 1980, in which the Reagan campaign seems to have sabotaged the release of our hostages until after the election in a blatant specimen of treason which was never punished in any way.  What most people will not remember is the crucial incident in this ugly spectacle of betrayal- a trip by William Casey, Reagan's campaign manager, to Madrid to meet with Iranian mullahs to make the deal to delay the release of the hostages, in return for promises of future sales of weapons to Iran, fulfilled later in Reagan's reign by the sale of 2,000 TOW missiles to the Iranians in another blatantly illegal specimen of treason, which again, being committed by a Republican administration was never punished in any way.

Republicans provided supposed evidence that Casey's trip never happened; only years later was it discovered that the evidence was a lie, and of course the hapless Democrats just let this treachery slide by without consequences.

I think it is very instructive to consider this sordid event, in light of the Trump administration denial of a crucial claim of the Steele dossier, that Michael Cohen was in Prague during the campaign to make a deal with the Russians for them to interfere in the Presidential campaign on behalf of Trump.  A year of the most belligerent denials that Cohen was ever in Prague, then or any other time, was backed up by displaying his passport, which contained no Czech visa stamps.

We now discover, via reporters from the McClatchy news service that this claim is false, and that in fact Cohen was in Prague in 2016, during the campaign, and met with Russian officials and a number of Eastern European hackers:

"WASHINGTON- The Justice Department special counsel has evidence that Donald Trump’s personal lawyer and confidant, Michael Cohen, secretly made a late-summer trip to Prague during the 2016 presidential campaign, according to two sources familiar with the matter."

Cohen seems to have taken a private jet to Germany, and then crossed the border from Germany to the Czech Republic, a crossing that does not require showing a passport under European Union regulations, thus rendering the "evidence" of his passport meaningless.  If the information compiled by this investigation holds up (and there is at present no reason to doubt it) it is a confirmation of one more of the explosive claims of the Steele Dossier, and is virtually smoking gun proof of treason on the part of the Trump campaign.

This incident is strikingly similar to the treachery of the Reagan incident, so I thought it would be interesting to provide this excerpt from a Los Angeles Times article recounting it:

"The Reagan administration and Republicans always denied that they had any back-door negotiations with Ayatollah Khomeini's revolutionary regime during the Iran hostage crisis. Specifically, they denied that Reagan's campaign manager, William J. Casey, traveled surreptitiously to Madrid in the summer of 1980 to meet with a representative of the ayatollah, and to suggest that it might be in Iran's interest to stall the negotiations over the release of the American hostages. Casey allegedly intimated that a Reagan administration would resume arms sales to the Iranians.  These allegations seemed too outrageous, too outlandish to be believed...
...we now know that Casey took time off from his campaign duties sometime in the summer of 1980 to visit Madrid. For "purposes unknown...
...it is now reasonable to conclude that Casey did something. The Iranians dragged out the negotiations over the release of the hostages. President Carter believed these negotiations were nearly successful in late September 1980, but suddenly new demands were made that stalled the talks. Polls showed Carter within single digits of catching Reagan until about 10 days before the election. Carter lost decisively, and the hostages were inexplicably released minutes after Reagan was sworn in as president... In retrospect, this was the beginning of the scandal that broke in 1987, when it became known that the Reagan administration had been exchanging weapons for hostages."

Shortly after this incident, Casey developed a bizarre case of "brain cancer" the main symptoms of which were to render him unable to either speak or write, thereby making it impossible for him to be deposed.  He eventually died, without ever regaining these allegedly lost abilities.

And before moving on, let me just mention that the campaign of Richard Nixon made deals with our Vietnamese partners to prevent progress toward a peace agreement, with the same treasonous intent:

"Nixon’s Vietnam Treachery...Nixon insisted that he had not sabotaged Johnson’s 1968 peace initiative to bring the war in Vietnam to an early conclusion. “My God. I would never do anything to encourage” South Vietnam “not to come to the table,” Nixon told (President Lyndon) Johnson...Now we know Nixon lied. A newfound cache of notes left by H. R. Haldeman, his closest aide, shows that Nixon directed his campaign’s efforts to scuttle the peace talks, which he feared could give his opponent, Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, an edge in the 1968 election. On Oct. 22, 1968, he ordered Haldeman to “monkey wrench” the initiative."

In other words, Trump's treasonous action to gain the White House was not an anomaly in Republican politics, but at least the third specimen of clear treason carried out to rig Presidential elections. Three Republican Presidents in the last half century have been illegitimate, elected via a campaign of treason.  And their reigns have caused massive damage to the United States. That is the reality we live with in this nation today.

It must be made clear that Donald Trump is not some sort of diseased growth on the body of Republicanism; his behavior is completely in keeping with the standard operating procedures of this anti-American, terminally corrupt organization.  Only its total elimination can provide hope of our rejoining the ranks of decent nations.

A slight addition to my comments:  It occurred to me that I should have pointed out that there is no evidence in all of our history of a Democratic Presidential candidate ever engaging in treachery that comes even close to these three examples.  One more example to demonstrate the maliciousness of the standard argument that both parties are the same.

Russia and Syria

I am the last person to ever claim that Vladimir Putin is anything but a vicious dictator, who deserves to be put down any way possible, but that does not neutralize the fact that Russia has an urgent interest in seeing to it that no group of Islamic fanatics, like ISIS, takes control of Syria.

Here's a map of the northern Middle East and southern Russia.  Please note that the distance between Syria and Russia is, at the narrowest point, only about 250 miles.  That is a distance that could be covered in less than half an hour by a fighter jet, or less than four hours on a straight freeway drive, if a freeway existed there.

I ask anyone to consider what the United States would do if a genocidal Islamic state arose 250 miles into Mexico; which is to say, around Mazatlan.  Do you think we would not be bombing the whole area into oblivion, regardless of the civilian "collateral damage?" After all, we killed a million civilians in Iraq just a few years ago, for nothing.  And please consider this question in light of the fact that the United States has, for over a century, maintained vicious dictators throughout central and South America; dictators that have been every bit as brutal as any Islamic ruler, and that our country has done this in the face of far less threat than Russia faces from Islamic extremism.  Many of these countries posed no danger to anyone except American corporations, before we destroyed their governments.  This reached a height of abomination in the fifties, when the Eisenhower administration essentially turned foreign policy over to two brothers who were on the board of the United Fruit Company, and who used their positions to see to it that no Central American country ever acted in the interest of its own people, and during the Reagan administration, when the Republican President illegally financed an army of drug gangs to force a legitimately elected government from power; these monstrous interventions continue to produce disastrous effects for our own country today.

No matter how vicious Putin may be, the reality remains that Russia cannot tolerate a fanatical, genocidal government almost on their border.  We would do well to keep that in mind as we see how Trump's current temper tantrum plays itself out.

Just to get things clear before the orgy of praise directed toward James Comey which is coming this week, here is the truth about Comey.

James Comey is a right wing hatchet man, who, in by far the most important act of his pathetic life, stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back in an absolutely gratuitous raising of an issue that he knew was a total lie, right before the election, and in the process did more than any single person, Putin included, to put Trump in office.

This was a deliberate, knowing act of treachery toward our country which is proving to be more damaging than almost any other single act of a government official since Robert E. Lee decided to turn traitor.

Then, after Trump, in true gangland fashion, rewarded Comey's act by firing Comey and humiliating him in public, Comey decided to take his revenge, not for the damage Trump was doing to the country, but for the personal insult he suffered.  That is not the act of a patriot; it is the act of a mobbed up criminal little different than Trump.

Be careful who we invite into our house.  Great that he is spilling the beans on his corrupt boss Trump, but don't be fooled into thinking that this act makes Comey a patriot, or anything else besides the wretched Republican tool he is.

I Thought He Was Going To Make Everything Better

Donald Trump yesterday:

"Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War."

I thought he said he was the greatest negotiator on earth and he was going to make everything better.  I thought he said he was so good at foreign policy that he could handle everything- it would be easy for him.  I thought he said he was going to have the greatest relationship with Russia.  What happened?

Oh, and I see that the Congressional Budget Office just announced that under his tax plan, the national debt will equal the entire GDP by 2028.  At which point the Republican party will be screaming to do away with Social Security and Medicare.

How can any person on earth take this vicious buffoon seriously for a second?  And how can his party and a large part of the mainstream press go on pretending that this is normal?  How can he be allowed to stay in office for a day?

Ryan Runs in Panic

One of the great Republican liars and tools of the rich is running for cover now that it appears that he is about to earn at least a minute fraction of the consequences of his corrupt behavior.

As the Washington Post reports in a headline today:

"Ryan to depart Congress with a legacy of expanded spending and immense deficits"

Of course, the Washington Post reports this fact as a failure on Ryan's part, when in fact it was his greatest success.  He was in Congress for the same reason that all Republicans are there: to rob the nation blind and give the money to their sociopathic rich backers.  And he succeeded just great at that.

And of course, the mainstream press played along like the lap dogs they are, consistently portraying his transparent lies about the economy and schemes to bankrupt us all as the product of a patriotic and brilliant thinker.

Well, the inevitable happened, I guess: the train stopped a couple of stations short of the sort of total dictatorship which would have enabled Ryan to complete his malignant vision for the country.  And in fury at his failure to precipitate the national apocalypse they have been trained to want, they were about to show him what Republican loyalty really means when the chips are down.  Ryan and his fellows at the top of the Republican trash heap spent decades building a base of violent voters, filled with hatred and greed, and now, deprived of their ultimate armageddon through having been swindled one time too many by their rich masters, they were about to turn on him.  So like the coward he so clearly always was, he's running for cover.  Well, good riddance, for as long as he stays in his hole.  You'd have to be a fool to think that he isn't already preparing for a Nixonian return the second he thinks he can get away with it.

Stop Obsessing, You Stupid People!

Here's an article in the Washington Post today, by some guy named Alan Sloan, who the Post describes as follows:

"Allan Sloan is a columnist for The Washington Post. He is a seven-time winner of the Loeb Award, business journalism's highest honor."

The Loeb Award!  A seven time winner!  What sort of profound thinking gets you seven of these things?  Well, here's a sample:

"Stop obsessing about the yo-yo stock market...

Enough with the stock market, already!

If you’re trying to make sense of the market, good luck to you. I know that stock market stories are one of the staples of business news — and these days, of general news, as well — and every market effect is supposed to have a rational, understandable cause.

But you know what, folks? That’s just not how the world actually works."

Any idiot can see that, after years of slow growth under the last Democratic President, the current Republicans only took a year to send it into an almost incomprehensible instability, which could cause a collapse any time.  But you little guys out there, your duty is to ignore all of that and pretend that it's all perfectly normal, like everything else the Republicans are up to today.  Just shut up and get back to work, or no work as the case may be.  Ignore the signs and keep pumping the little money you have into the market; i.e. into the pockets of thieves on Wall Street.  It's all just too complicated for you to understand anyway.  Stop paying attention, and let the rich guys do their thing!

That's what gets you seven "Loeb Awards," and a position writing opinion pieces for the Washington Post.  Okay?  I mean, what did you expect?

Minus 576

Funny old age we live in, huh, when the President of the United States can cause the Dow Jones average to lose close to 600 points in a single day, and the news media hardly bother mentioning it.  Until Trump moved in, this would have been a cataclysm that would have stunned the country, and brought forth screams for impeachment of a Democratic President, without even considering the several times this has happened in recent months, due to Trump's behavior.  But now?  The press is just averting its gaze, and pretending that it will all go away.

Nobody in the mainstream media seems willing to point out that, even in the absence of a total collapse, this kind of volatility is a frightening sign of the kind of instability that could cause even minor events to precipitate massive economic damage.  Just on the basis of pure statistical analysis, this should be seen as a deeply disturbing phenomenon.  Instead, it is simply being ignored, by the same mainstream press and Republican party that spent years screaming about Benghazi and Hillary's e-mails, scandals that every single one of them knew to be totally false.

I repeat Green Eagle's First Maxim:  The Democrats could beat the Republican party into historical oblivion without hardly trying; what they cannot do is beat the Republicans and the press working together.

"President Trump, who claimed a "crisis" forced him to order National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, said Thursday that a border-bound caravan of some 1,000 migrants fleeing violence in Central America had broken up inside Mexico."

Darn!  I was really hoping to head down to the border to get a look at that.
I just hope the camels are all okay.

I Love a Parade

So, I remember a story from the later years of the Vietnam war, when the United States was getting its rear end kicked by the Vietnamese:  A fair number of people, with a mixture of sarcasm and seriousness, said that we should just declare victory and come home, counting on the American people, or at least the ones who voted Republican, to gladly accept a fairy tale for reality.

I'm hearing lately what used to be called a "trial balloon" (don't hear that phrase much anymore, in a country whose leader's every remark is some kind of mentally deranged boast likely to disappear within hours) that this is exactly what Trump is planning to do in Syria:  Just declare that ISIS doesn't exist any more, and that all of the years of work by so many countries, united in a coalition put together by Barack Obama, was actually the result of an invisible stroke of military genius on the part of a man who knows more about war than all the generals combined.  And of course, the Republican base, which still believes Hillary was raping kids in a pizza parlor, will buy it without question.

Two great results from this plan.  First of all, it involves the United States abandoning Syria to the Russians, leaving Putin free to do whatever he wants there, and presumably in Iraq, Iran and Lebanon too; i.e. another treasonous payoff to the guy who put Trump in the White House.

And second, then we can have Trump's Grand Victory Parade!!!!! Another promise to improve the lives of ordinary Americans kept!  Oh boy, here it comes!  Next, Paraguay or San Marino or maybe California is going to pay for the wall!

Subject or Target?

So Donald Trump is rejoicing, at least in public, over being merely a "subject," rather than a "target" of a federal criminal investigation, pretending (after all the lawsuits he has been involved in, he must know better," that this is a good thing, despite his being the first President in history to rise (or sink) to this level.

Well, in all the talk I have now heard about the difference between the two, I have heard one persuasive remark, which is this:  Prosecutors who have handled this sort of case know perfectly well that the minute someone is identified as a "target" of their investigations, that person clams up, and from that point on there is zero hope of any sort of cooperation or willing testimony from them.  Mueller apparently still hopes to induce the egomaniac Trump to sit down for a face to face interview, which very likely will be the biggest mistake Trump ever made, and Mueller knows that if he lays all his cards on the table, Trump will run for the hills- perhaps the hills just outside of Moscow, if any exist. So he'll take what he can get now, and then we'll see what he really has, after Trump has a good chance to perjure himself but good.

Wishful thinking on my part?  Maybe, because I am not a lawyer, let alone a federal prosecutor, but there is a certain amount of sense in this explanation.

Update:  From the Washington Post this morning:

"The president has privately expressed relief at the description of his legal status, which has increased his determination to agree to a special counsel interview, the people said."

This Trump guy is as easy to manipulate as it is to trick your dog into going for a walk.  World's greatest negotiator, indeed.

Wingnut Wrapup

A lot of disgusting nonsense to get to these days, so let's just dig in with what is likely to be the most degraded, sickening response to the teenagers working to control guns, of course coming from the legendary Stupidest Man On The Internet, and holder of a Trump administration press pass, Jim Hoft:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "FLASHBACK: Hitler Also Used Children to Promote Gun Control:"

Yup, he went there, right in the headline.  And here is the picture Jim used:

I spent some time searching for details about this picture and guess what?  There seems to be no record of the occasion it was taken, and certainly not a reason in the world to think that it involved guns.  Surprise, surprise.

"Today’s gun control and confiscation rally was nothing new. Nazis and leftists have been using children for decades in their attempts to take guns away from law abiding citizens. Here’s a history lesson for young adults in America – Hitler’s regime took away guns from people in Germany"

A complete lie, of course, except for taking guns away from Jews.  Other than that, Hitler considerably loosened German gun restrictions

Hitler said – “These boys and girls enter our organizations [at] ten years of age, and often for the first time get a little fresh air; after four years of the Young Folk they go on to the Hitler Youth, where we have them for another four years . . . And even if they are still not complete National Socialists, they go to Labor Service and are smoothed out there for another six, seven months . . . And whatever class consciousness or social status might still be left . . . the Wehrmacht [German armed forces] will take care of that.”

What this has to do with the self-organized marches against guns, who knows?

"The perennial gun-control debate in America did not begin here. The same arguments for and against were made in the 1920s in the chaos of Germany’s Weimar Republic, which opted for gun registration. "

The Weimar Republic was, of course, the opposite of the Nazis, first of all, and second, the Weimar Republic absolutely did not "opt for gun registration."  That was part of the surrender terms forced on the Germans at the end of World War I, and was in fact relaxed under the Weimar Republic in the late 1920's.

" It’s reported that when Hitler signed gun control legislation he surrounded himself with children as a backdrop"

Reported by whom, nobody seems to know.  And since he never "signed gun control legislation," the question is pretty much meaningless anyway, huh?

"When former President Barack Obama signed executive orders on gun control he too surrounded himself with children"

Oh, Obama- just like Hitler.  I see:

I can't say I remember Obama ending his administration by shooting himself in the head in the smoking ruins of his capital city, after starting a war that killed fifty million people, but then I guess no analogy can be perfect, right?
"Leftists and Nazis can’t take away guns from law abiding citizens without using children as a backdrop! Today’s rally using children was another grotesque display reminescent of Nazi Germany."

So, to sum things up, no evidence of any kind that Hitler used children to promote gun control (which, incidentally he never did promote, other than taking guns away from Jews,) and modern kids who fight the NRA are nothing but Nazis.  And so is Obama.  Got that straight?  Good, let's move on then, first of all to something that I believe perfectly captures the degradation of the right in this country, and its utter contempt for both truth and decency.

Emma Gonzalez- you know her.  She's the Parkland student with the short hair who has become the number one symbol of the new movement in this country to fight back against the NRA and the corruption that allows rich corporations to force the country to run the way they want it to, with no regard for the harm they do.  Well, here is a picture of Emma Gonzales which is flying around the right wing web the last few days, showing her ripping up a copy of the Constitution.  Many of you have probably seen this by now, but it certainly represents an example of right wing behavior that has earned a place of honor here at Wingnut Wrapup. Take that, liberals!

One problem though:  here is the real picture, from an article at the Teen Vogue website:

Apparently, the phony picture is getting far more coverage around the web than the real one is.  There is just no bottom to the depravity of the right, which knows its positions are wrong, and just doesn't care.  Well, I guess we all knew that, so let's just move on.

Matt  Vespa, Town Hall:  "Anti-Gun Liberals Devolve Into A Cacophony Of Nonsense As They Can't Explain What An Assault Rifle Is"

If you don't know how to build a bomb, you have no right to the opinion that bombing people is bad.  You have to be so obsessed with guns that you know every detail about them before you have a right to say a word about the subject.

Matt Vespa:  "Surprise, Surprise: March For Our Lives Once Again Shows Why The Left Can’t Be Trusted On Gun Control"

Because you can't trust anyone that actually wants to deal with the problem. If they don't take money from the NRA, they ought to keep their mouths shut.

Timothy Meads, Town Hall:  "Ingraham: 'This Is Like Christmas for Democrats'

Sorry, guys.  Christmas is like Christmas for Democrats.  This is like the liberation of Poland.

Kevin McCullough, Town Hall:  "The Stupidity of the 'March For Our Lives'

You know what, Kevin?  At this point, I'll take stupid but good hearted over smart but evil.  And that doesn't even describe you and the people you write for, who are stupid and evil at the same time.

Marty Gottesfield, Red State:  "I Blame The Teachers, Not The Guns...I blame the teachers for the vast majority of school shootings in the U.S. They run the schools and in many cases they are the worst bullies of all."

Of course you do, Marty.  You can get a tax cut from cutting teachers' pay, but you can't get a dime out of the gun manufacturers, except by repeating their lies in public.  Which you do.

Claudia Rosett, PJ Media: "John Bolton: 'A Reagan Realist' and a Brilliant Choice...He will make America safer."

After the nuclear war.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "National Disgrace: Democrats, Not Republicans, Passed Mitch McConnell’s Bloated Omnibus Bill"

Despite the fact that Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House.  IT'S THE DEMOCRATS' FAULT I TELL YOU!!!!!

This is because some liberals criticised a rapper for taking money to make a commercial for the NRA.  What a relief; I thought the battle of Stalingrad had started up again.

Awr Hawkins, Breitbart:  "REPORT: MARCH AGAINST GUNS ATTENDANCE LESS THAN HALF EXPECTED...A report indicates attendance at Saturday’s student march for gun control was approximately 200,000, which is less than half of the expected crowd size."

Well, just an out and out lie.  How surprising, huh?  The actual number is reported as somewhere around 800,000 to 1,000,000 in Washington alone, plus hundreds of thousands in other cities, and Green Eagle, who has about forty years experience of judging crowd sizes agrees.  Oh well, what do you expect from right wingers, who routinely claim the size of their own marches is about ten times the real number?

Awr Hawkins, Breitbart:  "Hogg Mocked for ‘Nazi Salute’

That would be David Hogg, the Parkland student who has been subjected to an avalanche of right wing abuse for daring to not want to be shot to protect gun profits.  Here is the picture that has aroused wingnut ire:

The first time in known history when someone gave a Nazi salute with a closed fist, but close enough for right wingers.  By the way, I thought they loved Nazis over at Breitbart, so why the fit?

Julie Kelly, The Federalist:  "Successful Climate Pressure Tactics Paved The Way For Gun Control Bullying"

Tell the truth about one thing, and pretty soon you want to tell the truth about other things too.  It's just some sort of infectious disease.

Alex Jones:  "[W]e are then treated to a half-a-million young people...marching to declare that they would confiscate all of our guns and kill anyone that did not turn them in. We’ve got the signs, we’ve got the speeches, we’ve got videos from around the country, not just in D.C., with people running for office, for the office of sheriff and other offices saying, “Sure, you’re not going to turn your guns in? We’re going to kill you."

Young people marching to kill!!!  And here I thought that they were marching to not be killed.  But millions will listen to people like Alex and believe what they say, which right now is a worse problem than guns.

Todd Royal, American Thinker:  "On Iran, the USA Is in Big Trouble...Here's sincerely hoping it doesn't come to total war."

Come on, guy, at least show a shred of honesty.  You are praying for war with Iran every single day.

Monica Showalter, American Thinker:  "On 60 Minutes, Stormy Daniels blew her credibility"

How much "credibility" does a prostitute have?  I mean, she's got more than Donald Trump, who has told 2200 documented lies in a little over a year, but that doesn't amount to much, does it?

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Addressing the Weak Arguments Against Re-Inserting a Citizenship Question into the US Census Are Weak"

Well, you're right there, Guy, except maybe for that thing about what it says in the Constitution about counting everyone, citizen or not.  But then that sort of thing never matters when the Constitution stands in the way of right wingers seizing power.

Streiff, Red State:  "Debbie Wasserman Schultz and “Stolen Valor” Blumenthal Rip Off Chris Rock’s Gun Violence Idea...You can’t make this stuff up"

I don't have a clue what Chris Rock's idea is, but I do like the notion that it is ripping someone off to go along with an idea they had, if it is not dictated by the party hierarchy and rich donors.

John Hawkins, PJ Media:  "The Ignorant Parkland Kids Don't Speak for Their Dead Classmates...Taking advantage of your dead classmates to get your 15 minutes of fame is disgusting."

But of course, maggots like John Hawkins taking money from the NRA and the Koch brothers to tell their lies about everything is not disgusting- it's the American way.

World Net Daily:  "Bill, Hillary both tied to sex-slaves 'cult'

It will just never stop.  Someone with the same name as someone who knew someone who was arrested for manipulating some women into having sex with him, once contributed to Bill's campaign, many years ago.  That's it.  I bet that has you fuming with indignation, huh?
