Thank You, Mainstream Media

Anyone who thinks the people in the mainstream press have learned anything at all from their recent decade of helping the country move down the road to disaster, can pretty much forget that now.

We owe the media such a debt for turning one of the most important political discussions in the last several decades, into a stupid, infantile screamfest over dead grannies, communism, birth certificates, FEMA concentration camps, and any other total lie the right and the insurance industry can think of to prevent a shred of meaningful discussion of the real problems created by their greed.

And, it's a debt that I pray we will have a chance to repay in the near future.

Oh, and by the way, thanks to the media too, for presenting the lack of bipartisanship in Washington as some sort of failure of the Democrats, when it is one hundred percent a product of a deliberate, traitorous campaign to make the Democrats fail. The Republican party does not have one shred of concern for our country's welfare, and is interested in nothing but reclaiming power. This is the true, overarching story of our time, and it is one that the Press has collaborated in silencing for decades now.

GE, are you seriously complaining about the mainstream media? Or just Fox news and talk radio?

The latter would make more sense coming from you.

Derek,

I'm serious.

Even when I'm joking, I'm serious, and I am deadly serious this time.

Don't tell me you have fallen for the Reagan/Weyrich lie that the press is slanted toward the left? The United States has the most right wing press in the developed world.

"Reagan/Weyrich lie that the press is slanted toward the left?"

Ok, let's count the conservative news sources in the US.

Fox news (given), talk radio, and maybe the WSJ.

Let's count the liberal news sources:

CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NYT, most local papers, etc etc etc

But don't trust me, trust the professors at UCLA:

"The United States has the most right wing press in the developed world."

I feel bad for those other countries. What do they have? State-run newspapers? *shudder*

Derek,

Paul Weyrich, who essentially invented the story of the media being left wing, has long ago admitted that it was nothing but a propaganda line for the Republicans.

End of story.

You are using a single person as a source, I am using a peer reviewed study from a prestigious university. I think it is safe to say I win.

Except my one source was there when they cooked up the strategy, and has always been the number one person spreading it ever since. I'll stand by Weyrich's personal account of what happened.

That is fine, but I think I'll stand on the side of reason and truth.
