Cheney At It Again

This new information, from the New York Times:

"Cheney Is Linked to Concealment of C.I.A. Project

The Central Intelligence Agency withheld information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress for eight years on direct orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney, the agency’s director, Leon E. Panetta, has told the Senate and House intelligence committees, two people with direct knowledge of the matter said Saturday.

High-level N.S.A. officials who were responsible for ensuring that the surveillance program was legal, including the agency’s inspector general and general counsel, were not permitted by Mr. Cheney’s office to read the Justice Department opinion that found the eavesdropping legal, several officials said."

Boy, did someone know what they were doing when they named him Dick.

I hope this is the beginning of his end.

I don't think Cheney will be ever held accountable in the legal sense at all for his actions and disregard of laws.

I'd like to hear Green Eagle's view on this; if he agrees or not and why.

Sad to say, I agree with you. Unfortunately, when Obama has to chose between health care for 40 million people, and a couple of years waking up every morning to the screeches of wounded Republican psyches screaming for his head, we all know what he has to do.

It's a shame that this ignorant, demagogic, immoral party still has the power to force him to chose between those two things, But they do, and so I doubt if justice will ever touch Bush, Cheney and all of their associate war criminals.

Is it possible to move forward without taking responsibility for the past? The evil must be acknowledged and those responsible must be held accountable, otherwise Obama and America join the ranks of good men who do nothing. Which is why evil usually wins. Off with their heads!

Green eagle makes a good point, but so does mastercynic.
I think the American people bear some of the responsibility for not acknowledging or accepting the law breaking.
I know it's an uphill battle against the entrenched powers and corporate media, but don't you think if enough people got outraged and made enough noise their elected representatives would take action?

Man, there is no one in the world that would get a greater thrill than me if Cheney was led away in handcuffs. And I entirely agree about facing up to the past. Allowing Republicans to spread their lies about Vietnam, and Saint Ronnie and a million other things seemed harmless at the time, but these myths directly contributed to the miserable state this country this country is in today.

Still, if I have to choose, I think I have to go with those 40 million people without health care first.

I must say that I believe Obama is dribbling all of this material out deliberately, to keep this issue at a simmer. After he has made progress on the economy, and health care, he will have such a reservoir of good will that he can attend to these injustices without the Republicans being able to drown him in an ocean of whining.
