From an article by a phenomenal liar named Quin Hillyer (a senior editor at the Washington Times-that says it all) at the American Spectator website:

"Since my April 2 column that compared Barack Obama's economic policies (and others) to those of Italy's Benito Mussolini, I have been denounced.....

....Since then, the evidence has grown only stronger.....

This is scary stuff. It is not just a diminution of freedom, but a frontal assault. And it's only part of the story, the whole of which is even worse. We now have the government refusing to accept repayment of loans it made to various banks -- preferring to keep control of the banks to regaining the taxpayers' money quickly. Moving from economics to coercion and the use of the state to target political enemies, we have a Homeland Security Department targeting veterans and anti-abortionists as potential terrorists, and a White House leaving open the option of prosecuting its predecessors over honest policy choices made in a time of war and without identifying any specific domestic law supposedly broken. We see selective release of previously classified information for political purposes. We have the advancement of "hate crimes" legislation that makes it a prosecutable offense to think unapproved thoughts.

On the domestic level, again I say, all of this is straight out of the Mussolini playbook."

Okay, listen. I am not a Mussolini scholar, but I do see several books about Mussolini and his times on my bookshelf, as well as Mussolini's own memoir, My Life and Times. And, I have actually read those books. So, I know a little.

This scummy article is obviously written with the firm conviction that its audience knows absolutely nothing about Mussolini- not an unreasonable expectation, considering the likelihood that any given conservative knows nothing about anything. The truth is that, far from Obama's actions being "straight out of the Mussolini playbook," they have absolutely nothing to do with Mussolini and his rule. To be blunt, this article is a complete lie.

We can take some comfort, I suppose, in the fact that all of the paid conservative Heritage Foundation fellows, and American Enterprise Institute "scholars" and all of their captive journalists and politicians can find absolutely nothing that Obama has actually done that they can attack. Still, that never stopped them, did it?
