Unfortunate Timing, Indeed

An interesting article from the Topeka Capitol Journal, regarding Phil Kline, one of the most cynical anti-choice characters, who rode his religious fanaticism to become Kansas attorney general, before people came to their senses and got rid of him:

"Thousands of Kansans opened their mailboxes Thursday to find a solicitation letter from former Attorney General Phill Kline that invokes physician George Tiller and Planned Parenthood while seeking contributions for a campaign against abortion rights.

Kline, who filed criminal charges against Tiller while serving as attorney general, targeted the solicitation at former political supporters. He is trying to eliminate $200,000 in personal legal debt that piled up during the past six years. The letter also says cash was needed by Life Issues Institute, an anti-abortion organization in Cincinnati affiliated with Kline, to “launch more aggressive battles on the national front.”

Well, I guess we don't need to wonder any more about what they mean by "more aggressive battles." Maybe next time they will use tanks and artillery.

By the way, let me make it clear that the "criminal charges" Kline filed against Tiller were one hundred percent phony, and became a major issue in forcing Kline out of office. The new, sane attorney general promptly dropped all charges.

“There was no way to foresee what was going to happen,” said spokesman Brian Burgess. “I think it’s fair to say the timing is unfortunate.”

Oh, okay then.

As I have pointed out before, from George Bush on down, there is no occasion, no matter how serious, when a right winger is willing to accept one shred of responsibility for the consequences of their behavior.

I was led to this article by a post on Crooks and Liars.
