The "Christians" Speak Out

Tony Perkins, head of the "Family Research Council" (ha ha. I'd love to see their "research" into anything but how to pander to ignorance) has this to say about the pathetic Republican attempts to moderate their image:

"...the GOP leadership kicked off the campaign devoid of the values that once caused voters to identify with the party.

Former Gov. Jeb Bush explained the values void by saying it was time for the GOP to give up its "nostalgia" for Reagan-era ideas and look forward to new "relevant" ideas. (Yes, because that worked so well for Republicans in 2006 and 2008!)

President Reagan's principles are the ones that guided our nation from its very inception. Turning away from those fundamental truths would be a death knell for the GOP as little would be left to distinguish the Republicans from the Democrats. "

Please, Tony, you go with this thinking. Keep believing that it was giving up its Reagan-era policies that destroyed the Republican party. Personally, I think it was when Republicans had the chance to run the country for eight years on "Reagan-era" policies, and people saw what happened, Republicans suddenly didn't seem like such a good deal. Oh well, that's just me.

By the way, I didn't know that the "principles" that guided our nation from its inception included no taxes for the rich, and aggressive interference in the domestic affairs of other countries, or pandering to racists (remember Philadelphia, Miss.) and wacko religious extremists. In fact, from my viewpoint, what Reagan advocated was pretty much the dead opposite of what Washington, Jefferson and Madison believed.

Now, as to the death knell thing. Listen, Tony, the Republican party began ringing that bell the moment it started listening to people like you. So keep talking this way, please. It's the greatest gift you could ever give our country.
