What? The Scientists Weren't Lying? Who Knew?

Did you ever have any doubt that this would prove to be the case? From an excellent post at Scienceblogs:

"The International Panel set up to examine the work of the Climate Research Unit has cleared the CRU of all charges of misconduct:

"We saw no evidence of any deliberate scientific malpractice in any of the work of the Climatic Research Unit and had it been there we believe that it is likely that we would have detected it."

It was pointed out that since UK government adopted a policy that resulted in charging for access to data sets collected by government agencies, other countries have followed suit impeding the flow of processed and raw data to and between researchers."

And how did the right wingers, who have published hundreds of articles and blog posts about this malicious phony conspiracy respond?

From the Daily Telegraph:

'Climategate' scientists criticised for not using best statistical tools"

The clear implication being that they were trying to hide the truth.

This of course refers to the government limits on distribution of data, and had nothing to do with the scientists themselves, as you can see from the quote above. That wasn't important enough, I guess, for the Telegraph to point that out.

"An independent inquiry said the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia was "ill prepared for being the focus of public attention" when sceptics began to question their figures on climate change."

That is, "ill-prepared" to deal with a massive campaign of smears and lies directed at them by industry-funded stooges. But once again, it's all their fault, and proves that they are nothing but a bunch of malicious liars.

"We found a small group of dedicated if slightly disorganised researchers who were ill-prepared for being the focus of public attention," said Lord Oxburgh, an academic and former head of Shell, who conducted the inquiry."

Ill prepared for being endlessly attacked in the press by right wing lunatics and liars. I guess that's part of their job as scientists now- to spend most of their time defending their honest work against the hatred and distortions of the right.

Well, join the club, boys.

It cannot be allowed to be "part of their job as scientists now - to spend most of their time defending their honest work against the hatred and distortions of the right".

On the whole they don't have the skills for that, nor the interest in doing it.
And the (sometimes dark) virtue of scientific deduction is that it is dispassionate. Scientists regularly conclude things they don't want to conclude.

Like doctors informing patients of a prognosis they don't 'want' to deliver and the patient doesn't 'want' to hear.

Why does no Right-wing dweeb ever ask themselves "why would they WANT to think that human activity is affecting the environment in a way that is damaging to the not-distant future of humanity?"
