A Little More Truth, Republican Style

I have been harping for a few months on the notion that much of the insane criticism which the right directs toward Obama has nothing to do with Obama at all, but is rather an attempt to cast upon Obama all of Bush's defects, with the ultimate purpose of arguing away Bush's failures with the ludicrous claim that Obama is just as bad. A classic example of this is the "teleprompter" issue, where Republicans accuse Obama, one of the greatest political speakers of our generation, of being an ignorant shell, unable to speak coherently without a written script- just like Bush.

Here, via Thinking Meat (link over there on the right) is a perfect example of this phenomenon, from yet one more lying wingnut website, which displays the following picture:

There is not one word to indicate that this is not an actual picture of Obama posing like a jackass in a flightsuit, not one word about what this is actually a picture of:

Remember now? Yes indeed, it is their guy being a jackass, dressing up like a fighter pilot, but they thought it was just fine to photoshop the picture so it looks like Obama is the jackass.

Reality- conservative style.

Before Mr. Obama took his oathe of office, the Right was screaming about "taking back our country."

They believe only they have the right to govern, and as they did with Mr. Clinton from the beginning, they will delegitimize this presidency.

They can attempt to delegitimize Obama, but if we all speak up loud and clear, get out the vote, bang on the networks doors, rev up the kids to action, we can continue on the path to repair and re-regulation.

Yeah, but look what an idiot he looks like in that flight suit.

I think you are focusing far too much on the image and not enough on the message below it. The image is for effect, the message for the true meaning.

How many promises has Obama broken relating the war on terror and Iraq? Quite a few. For someone who was against both wars, as well as the 2006 troop surge, he is remarkably hawkish when it comes to Afghanistan.

Agreed/thoughts?

Derek, Obama was never against the invasion of Afghanistan.

He regards it as a legitimate international action following 9/11 in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO Charter which states that an attack on one is an attack on all.
Furthermore his policy of a properly supported effort in Afghanistan - such as was undermined by resource drain caused by the fiasco of Iraq - was on the record throughout the election.

You know this full well. Stop making shit up.

I am focusing on the monstrous dishonesty which is the everyday stock in trade of the Republican party. This is just one tiny example of their projecting their failures on us.

Frankly, I don't give a damn what gibberish is below this phony, smearing photoshopped image.

"such as was undermined by resource drain caused by the fiasco of Iraq"

Troop levels as well as resources sent to Afghanistan weren't decreased after March 2003. I know you will hate me for saying this but you are spreading a myth.

"below this phony, smearing photoshopped image."

Of course it is photoshopped. I doubt anyone looks at it and thinks that is really obama in the flight suit. The point is that Obama broke a number of his promises on the war on terror.
