Wrong Again, Guys

On a happier note, this from the New York Times: "PARIS — President Barack Obama remains by far the most popular world leader among people in major Western nations and is the one political figure on whom people consistently pin their hopes in the economic crisis, according to new polls conducted for the International Herald Tribune." In my wanderings through the slough of Conservative political comment, I have started to see a number of liars- oops, I meant serious Republican political analysts- suggesting lately that world opinion is turning against Obama. Please remember this if any of their drivel comes your way.

Our Daily Lunacy Digest

Even though it's Saturday, usually a slow news day, remember that Conservatives Never Sleep. Here's our daily report on what they are doing instead: Bill Kristol: "....the White House/media bluster won't work. Most conservatives and Republicans aren't going to be intimidated from raising legitimate questions about Sotomayor's jurisprudence." Or illegitimate ones, Bill. Mostly the latter. In fact, entirely the latter. Barack beat you again- deal with it. Bobby Schindler:I spent a lot of time watching news coverage of President Obama’s recent speech at Notre Dame. I couldn’t help but be reminded of my sister Terri’s two-week ordeal that took place at the hospice facility where she was killed in March of 2005. There was so much that was eerily similar.... No, of course it couldn't, Bobby. How could the Wingnut response to Obama's speech not remind you of a fight between an articulate, intelligent man and someone who is brain dead? Hugh Hewitt:...

Bombshell?

From TPM: "Levin Calls Cheney a Liar on Torture" The story has a subhead, "Will media give Levin's Bombshell Airtime?" Josh, I'm sorry to have to disagree with you here, but how could you think that Cheney lying is a "bombshell?" That's more along the lines of "Startling News: My Dog was Hungry Again Today."

Moral Advice friom Newt.

When in doubt about a moral question, who better to turn to for advice than Newt Gingrich? I knew I couldn't keep away from Sonya Sotomayor for ever, and this is as good a place as any to break down. "From the Desk of Newt Gingrich "I have a dream: that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." - Dr. Martin Luther King" Because, as all red-blooded Americans know, Newt, there is nothing you care about more than advancing the cause championed by Dr. Martin Luther King. And nothing could offend him more than seeing a minority woman on the Supreme Court. "There are only two options for how we govern ourselves – by laws, or by the will of those in power. The will of those in power represents subjective, fleeting standards that are never fully known by any and are applied purely to satisfy the wishes of a small, concentrated group in power." An...

Phil Sentenced

Image
Breaking News: "Phil Spector sentenced to 19 years to life" The article didn't make this clear, but apparently he was sentenced to spend 19 years to life looking like Michael Jackson. Cruel and unusual punishment in my opinion

Wingnuttiness of the Day

I really enjoyed lumping most of the wingnut drivel of the day into one post yesterday, so I think I'll continue. Their synthetic outrage about Sonya Sotomayor is so pathetic today, that I'll pretty much just skip over that. Well, here goes: Floyd and Mary Beth Brown: Time for Nancy Pelosi to Resign Guys, time for Nancy to resign is so last week. Move on, will you? Town Hall: Star Trek; Socialist Utopia? Good point there, fellas. I'll spend some quality time thinking about that one. I'm so glad you are focusing on the important things Red State: Conservative Immingration Reform is Right Next to Unicorns and Leprechauns Yeah, but Conservative everything is right next to unicorns, so what's your point? Josh Painter: Dealergate Update: What we have so far In a word: nothing. Red State: Mancow Waterboarding Faked! "It is going to have to look “real” but of course would be simulated with Mancow acting like he is drowning. It will be a hoax but have to look r...

Pammy Hits the Target Again

Image
Let's visit with little Pammy, shall we? Today, she features this post: "General David Petraeus Honored at The Union League Club, NYC" Pammy illustrates it with the following p ictures: This Just In: "Petraeus Backs Closing Gitmo" Oops.

American Industry at its Finest

Another milestone in the progress of American industry, this from the BBC: "Canadian car parts maker Magna International is the preferred bidder for GM Europe, owner of Opel and Vauxhall, Lord Mandelson has said. The UK business secretary said a deal between Magna and GM was "pretty near". There you go- the classic American plan to save our manufacturers. Sell off the parts of the company that still make decent cars, in order to finance the long term collapse of the worthless ones. That's bound to work.

Go Away

This just in from the Washington Post: Ralph Nader said something. Ralph, no one gives a damn what you have to say. Deal with it. Now, get out of our lives. And don't come back every four years like you usually do. Just vanish, please.

Barack Takes a Stand

From the Washington Post: "Obama reiterated that he had been 'very clear about the need to stop building settlements, to stop building outposts' on Palestinian territory. "Only hours earlier, the Israeli government said it would continue to allow some growth in the settler communities in the West Bank." Let me make my bias on this issue clear. I have lived and worked in Israel. I have spent time in the West Bank and have seen a number of settlements close up. In the course of my work, I have had contact with Palestinians, Israeli Arabs and Bedouins. I firmly believe in Israel's right to exist; and as long as there continue to be numerous explicitly Muslim governments in the world, I believe simple fairness should allow Israel to exist as a Jewish society. Now, on to my comment: Good for you, Barack. There is something inherently unfair in the fact that Muslim Palestinians are free to live in Israel and participate as far as they are willing in its gove...

News of the World for Parrots

More vitally important news from Yahoo: "Brazen NZ parrot steals passport, heads into bush A brazen parrot, which spotted a Scottish man's passport in a colored bag in the luggage compartment under a tour bus, nabbed the document and made off into dense bush with it, the Southland Times newspaper reported Friday." If you think Green Eagle was going to let that one pass, you don't know Green Eagle.

More News the World Didn't Need

From Yahoo: "ATLANTA – Scientists have identified a lethal new virus in Africa that causes bleeding like the dreaded Ebola virus . The so-called "Lujo" virus infected five people in Zambia and South Africa last fall. Four of them died, but a fifth survived, perhaps helped by a medicine recommended by the scientists. "This one is really, really aggressive" he said of the virus." As if having to put up with Dick Cheney all over again wasn't bad enough. In other news: "Everglades swamped with invading pythons" Oh, great.

Weakening White Americans

Image
In my endless quest for targets for my merciless ridicule, I found myself wandering in a veritable forest of sites linked to a blog advocating the re-establishment of the Confederacy. I will not bother you with the maundering, deluded and ultimately dead boring trash that I found there, but I did want to show you this delightful cartoon, which asks the vital question, "How do you weaken and kill off White Americans?" I thought this question deserved the kind of thoughtful answer that only the likes of Green Eagle can provide, so here's my shot. First, I would see that a significant part of them inbred to the point that they were stupid enough to fall for any kind of lies and deceit. Then I would use their religious institutions to teach them that there is just nothing at all wrong with submitting yourself to an orgy of hatred and greed. Next, I would spend a lot of money raising up a group of politicians willing to pander to those emotions by promising these simple-min...

Korea, Problem or Opportunity?

From Yahoo: "SEOUL, South Korea – The U.S. and South Korea put their military forces on high alert Thursday after North Korea renounced the truce keeping the peace between the two Koreas since 1953. The North also accused the U.S. of preparing to attack the isolated communist country in the wake of its second nuclear bomb test , and warned it would retaliate to any hostility with "merciless" and dangerous ferocity." I'm going to make a couple of cheap predictions here. First, it won't be more than a few hours before we see right wingers like Cheney egging the North Koreans on, still foolishly refusing to grasp the fact that, finally, an adult is in the White House. Second, Kim Jong Il may be the butt of world wide jokes because of his behavior, but he is not as stupid as the Republicans. He knows what will happen if he tries to attack the U. S. He won't go there. Third, as I alluded to above, Barack Obama is going to prove once again that he is no ...

Wingnuts- Let's Get Through This Quickly

So far, the Republicans continue to bat .000 against Obama. I thought I would just go over a lot of the right wing junk they are throwing up to try to latch onto some kind of an issue. It's not worth a whole bunch of posts today, so let's lump them all together: Larry Elder: Pelosi vs. the CIA: Why it matters No it doesn't, Larry. And neither do you. That's why you couldn't even keep your local talk show. Emmett Tyrell: The ACLU Talks Too Much This one has to do with some cross out in the desert. Glad to see you keeping your eye on the ball, Emmett. Moe Lane: Harry Reid Attacked Barbara Bush in His Book Really? Actually, it turns out that he quoted someone else saying something about Babs. Even if he had called her Hitler with an Eating Disorder, so what? Grow up, Moe. “E Pluribus Unum:” Clarence Thomas and Miguel Estrada Were Not Left-Wing Toadies Both are minorities. Yet both are to this day treated to the most vile and inhuman treatment that the left can levy, ca...

It's All the Liberals' Fault, as Usual

Oh, now I understand everything! Thank you, New York Times , for making it all so clear to me: "WASHINGTON —President Obama's campaign to cut health costs by $2 trillion over the next decade, announced with fanfare two weeks ago, may have hit another snag: the nation’s antitrust laws. Antitrust lawyers say doctors, hospitals, insurance companies and drug makers will be running huge legal risks if they get together and agree on a strategy to hold down prices and reduce the growth of health spending." Oh, that's why our medical care system is so terrible! How could I have not realized this before the New York Times was so kind as to point it out to me? It's all the fault of those liberals, and their darned antitrust laws! Of course, if we only ignored those laws and let the insurance companies and HMO's do anything they wanted, our medical costs would come crashing down, the way they always do when you just let monopolies control everything. ...

Rice and Beans

Okay, I'm breaking my promise already. So sue me. From The Hill: "Sotomayor also claimed: “For me, a very special part of my being Latina is the mucho platos de arroz, gandoles y pernir — rice, beans and pork — that I have eaten at countless family holidays and special events.” This has prompted some Republicans to muse privately about whether Sotomayor is suggesting that distinctive Puerto Rican cuisine such as patitas de cerdo con garbanzo — pigs’ feet with chickpeas — would somehow, in some small way influence her verdicts from the bench." No comment needed.

Judicial Activism

Along with all of the other garbage we are going to have to hear during Sotomayor's confirmation hearing, we are inevitably going to be bombarded mercilessly by one of the great Conservative lies- that conservative judges are "strict constructionalists" who uphold the "original intent" of the framers of the constitution, while liberal judges are "judicial activists" who "legislate from the bench," i.e. do any damn thing they please. This utterly bogus (that is to say Republican) issue is what is behind the avalanche of Republican criticism on Obama's use of the word "empathy" in connection with his Supreme Court pick. After all, in their eyes, the only ones who deserve to have the court really understand their situation are corporations and the very rich. Most of you may not remember that the presence of the ultraright racist William Rehnquist on the Supreme Court resulted from a breakdown in congressional resistance after two...

A Short Note

I can see that the next couple of days are going to be light ones for Green Eagle. The whole media and blogosphere are totally consumed with the countless right wing attacks on Judge Sotomayor. These are so predictable and stupid that I have already run out of any interest I might have had in them, and I am sure you have too, if you have been following the story. So, unless some Republican rises to a wholly unexpected level of idiocy (always a possibility) I'm just going to leave the whole thing alone. Better nothing than boredom.

Little Pammy Strikes Again

Little Pammy, over at her blog, Atlas Shrugs , is at it again. Here's something she quotes, in pursuit of the great wingnut goal of proving that Barack Obama is Adolf Hitler. As usual, with a few helpful comments: "I thought I would never be able to experience what the ordinary, moral German felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the savior was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing." They knew next to nothing by the mid-1930's, when Hitler had been in power for a couple of years, and practically all of his programs, detailed long before in Mein Kampf, were in full force? "What they did know was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory and promises." Just like Obama, who shouted and shoved and pushed around people. Oh yes, I can see the analogy so clearly. ...

Gonzo Speaks

Green Eagle fave, Alberto "no brain" Gonzales speaks out on CNN (via Talking Points Memo ): "....Wolf Blitzer also asked him about the ongoing torture debate. And it was interesting to see that Gonzo -- who was White House counsel at the time the torture policies were first formulated -- seemed eager to shift any blame onto the Justice Department he would later go on to lead. Pressed by Blitzer about his role in approving torture, he first clarified that he wasn't at the Justice Department at the key time, and said "It's the responsibility of the Department of Justice to provide legal guidance on behalf of the executive branch." In other words: blame Ashcroft, Yoo, and Bybee." Actually, Alberto, as I remember it, the ones that you are responsible for torturing were the American people. Now, get back in your hole, maggot.

What Now, St. John?

"When the Senate confirmed Sonia Sotomayor to sit on the 2nd Circuit back in 1998 , 29 Republicans voted AGAINST her -- including current Sens. Grassley , Hutchison , Kyl , McCain , McConnell , and Sessions . But 23 Republicans also voted FOR her -- including current Sens. Collins , Gregg , Hatch , Lugar , Snowe , and Specter (the latter of whom is now a Democrat)." The above, from MSNBC First Read. Curious, isn't it, to see that great maverick, St. John McCain, keeping company with all of those neanderthal hardliners, huh? Who'd have ever imagined that? I can't help wondering where his open-minded, bipartisan spirit will lead him this time. Note: Probably further into the sewer.

Less Genuine Interest, Indeed

Rich Lowry, who apparently won his position as editor of National Review Online in a no-holds-barred stupidity contest, has this to say about the subject of the Wingnut Freakout of the Day: " No president had ever nominated a Hispanic woman. Nor had a recent president — or his nominee — expressed less genuine interest in the traditional craft of judging." I assume, Rich, by "recent," you mean starting the day after Bush one picked Clarence Thomas.
Pat "Petain" Buchanan continues to refuse to go away. Here he is again, bringing us some more news from the Twilight Zone: "Dick Cheney is giving the Republican Party a demonstration of how to fight a popular president. Stake out defensible high ground, do not surrender an inch, then go onto the attack." Pat, did it ever occur to you that it might not be the best think to do to continuously fight our President? Oh yeah, it occurred to you every time you opened your mouth during the reign of your pathetic incompetent occupant of the oval office. I guess you forgot all of that in the excitement of last November. Well, here's the thing. You have no high ground. However, you may want to think about staking out the low ground, since you Republicans pretty well own all of that. Then, instead of attacking the President, how about occasionally, maybe, just maybe, try helping him to make our country better? No, I guess not. Foolish me.

Republican Basics

Here's some loon at Newsmax, named Geoff Metcalf, with this observation: "Obama Ignores Republican Basics" Geoff, I hate to break this to you, but that's why 69,500,000 people voted for him. No need to link to this piece of trash. Trust Green Eagle on this one.

Right Wing Logic, On the March Again

Here's a wonderful specimen of the kind of rational thought that we have come to expect from the consevative world: "RED ALERT: Did Anti-Obama campaign contributions dictate which Chrysler dealers were shuttered? A tipster alerted me to an interesting assertion. A cursory review by that person showed that many of the Chrysler dealers on the closing list were heavy Republican donors. To quickly review the situation, I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates . " As a lover of conspiracies himself, Green Eagle is always appreciative when he hears one as far-fetched as this one. However, it occurs to him that there is a far simpler explanation for this disturbing correlation. How about the idea that the people who were intellectually challenged enough to have invested their life savings in attempting to sell Chryslers wou...

Lunatic

And yet another lunatic take on the Sotomayor nomination, from Red State: " Pyongyang. North Korea test fired....five new missiles yesterday and today in response to the United Nations Security Council’s condemnation of its recent nuclear test..... The Obama Administration’s response is essentially to change the subject and distract media and public attention from the one thing it does not want to talk about, foreign policy." Ah, yes. The appointment of a new Supreme Court Justice, one of a President's most important and critical duties, is nothing but a cheap political maneuver to distract attention from a minor, transient foreign problem. I'm not surprised to see them thinking that way, since every act of the last President, no matter how crucial, was subverted in the cause of Republican political convenience. Still, given that Obama has proven about fifteen thousand times as adept at foreign policy as their "grownups" were, I think we can afford oursel...

Another Party Heard From

Ken Blackwell (remember him? Ohio's former crooked-as-they-come attorney general.) is the latest Republican scum to speak out on the Sotomayor nomination, and I'm sure you are excited as I am to have his opinion: "... President Obama’s nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor is a declaration of war against America’s gun owners and the Second Amendment to our Constitution." No evidence for that, of course. I am sure that Ken would have provided us with some, but his internet connection to the far away planet where it is true was down today. Thanks for that contribution to our discourse, Ken. Now, get back in your box, please.

We So Need Your Opinion, John

Here's a helpful contribution to the debate on Obama's Supreme Court pick: "President Obama’s nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor shows that empathy has won out over excellence in the White House. The White House chose a judge distinguished from the other members of that list only by her race. Conservatives should defend the Supreme Court as a place where cases are decided by a faithful application of the Constitution...." The above remarks courtesy of that one-man legal disaster zone, John Yoo. Mr. Yoo, why didn't you care about the constitution when you were bending over backwards to degrade our nation's legal system by justifying torture? You know something? The best thing for you to do is keep the hell out of this discussion and everything else having to do with our government, for the rest of your misbegotten life. Sad to say, neither you nor your "conservative" friends will stop for one second from your mindless, vicious attacks, so this is ...

Scientology Charged

I am going to link to this story without comment: "PARIS (AFP) –The Church of Scientology and six of its French leaders went on trial on Monday on charges of organised fraud that could lead to an outright ban on the organisation in France ." Well, almost without comment. I have been observing this group since the 1960's when I first read Dianetics. I will be most interested in seeing what comes of this matter.

Vichy Republicans

Red State's finest, Erick Erickson, has this to say today: "Now, twenty years after Rush began, some Republicans who once fell all over themselves to get on the air with him, have decided he is too shrill, too conservative, and too harmful to the cause. They have become Vichy Republicans.... Call Powell, Ridge, etc. quislings, Vichy Republicans or whatever you like, but one thing is clear — these respected men have chosen to use their positions and media adoration to take on not Rush and Dick Cheney, but conservatives." There it is, folks. Failing to mindlessly oppose every single thing Obama and the Democrats try to do, is exactly equivalent to total collaboration with Nazi Germany. One more little remark worth mentioning: "Why? Because Cheney, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Coulter, and others are burning down their potemkim village — their facade of being both reasonable and on the right." And there you have it. How could those people be so ignorant as to beli...

Gog and Magog

Here are a couple of excerpts from an incredibly disturbing article at Alternet: "President Bush spoke to France's President Jacques Chirac. Bush wove a story about how the Biblical creatures Gog and Magog were at work in the Middle East and how they must be defeated. Chirac is said to have been stupefied and disturbed by Bush's invocation of Biblical prophesy to justify the war in Iraq and "wondered how someone could be so superficial and fanatical in their beliefs". In the same year he spoke to Chirac, Bush had reportedly said to the Palestinian foreign minister that he was on "a mission from God" in launching the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan and was receiving commands from the Lord." Words fail me. It will be well worth your time to click on the link and read the whole article.

Women And Race

While on my sewer walk through neo-Nazi websites, mentioned in my previous post, I cam across the following item: "Why do many white females ignore race as a major issue? I can only speculate the reasons for their carelessness. Most young women today have no racial awareness and if approached with the idea they simply do not want to hear it. It is necessary we awake something in these women for our future is at stake. Without strong and intelligent white mothers we do not stand a chance against the hordes that not only out breed us but are looking to defile our blood lines." Why do white females ignore race as a major issue? Why? Just Green Eagle's opinion here, but maybe it's because they are not a pack of filthy race hating pigs. Or maybe it's because they are smarter than white men, something which would not be that hard to believe, given that the white men who still keep the Republican party on its feet are dumber than schnauzers. Anyway. I'm not ...

Are Nazis Really Liberals?

Looking around wingnut haunts, I have grown really tired of of one of their favorite lies- that the Nazis were actually liberals. The fact that they could even begin to give credence to this idiocy pretty much says it all about their respect for the truth, and their concern with finding real answers to our nation's problems. Today, I had occasion to look at some neo-Nazi websites. Guess what? They all hate Obama and everything he stands for. I wonder how that fact fits into the whole "Nazis are liberals" thing? Oh, wait. I see the flaw in my reasoning. "Wingnut"-"fact" How did I ever manage to get those two words together in the same post?

California Taxes

Conservatives are having a good ol' time laughing about the troubles California, supposedly the world center of liberalism, is having in paying its bills. May I point out to the ignorant that California (as of 2005, the last year for which I have data ) pays $48 billion dollars more in Federal taxes than it receives in return. That is over three times California's budget deficit. Where does this money go? As I have mentioned before, virtually every state in the country that still votes Republican is a net receiver of tax money from the Federal government. I am damned tired of paying to support these jackasses while they preach to us about what worthless, spendthrift leeches we are.

Sage Observations on Waterboarding

I was led to a site discussing the recent waterboarding of Eric "Mancow" Muller, by a link from Alicublog , one of the websites I visit daily. Roy Edroso, the writer from Alicublog was particularly amused with some of the comments, and so was I. Thanks, Roy, and here's a sample: "sometimes torture needs to be used if the costs of not torturing come too high. Ask yourself-- would you prefer to be water boarded or step on a land mine?" Would you prefer to be slugged in the face or have your arm ripped off? Oh, then it's okay if I slug you in the face? "Finally winning a war without torture does not mean that we could not have lowered our causalities. Sometimes you can fight with one hand tied behind your back and still win." Sometimes you can gain the whole world and lose your eternal soul. Ever hear that before? By the way, we fought this war without one arm tied behind our backs, and still lost. Deal with that, sucker. " Make a guy thin...

Oh No!

Image
I was in the supermarket today, where I gather much of my historical information, when I saw this shocking piece of information. As usual, that pathetic New York Times totally missed out on this vitally important story. You know, George, the rest of us got to the point that we couldn't take it any more, about five years ago.

Torture Schools

Image
World Net Daily is one of those websites that gives us more than its fair share of amusement. Around the Left Blogosphere, it's called Wing Nut Daily. Here's why, in an article from its leader, Joseph Farah: " There's a shocking new report out about the abuse of students in special-education schools. Congressional investigators have apparently uncovered widespread mistreatment in public special-needs education facilities..... ....Now let's calm down for a moment and think about this. Who controls the public schools in America?" Oh oh, I think I can guess what's coming. "...these are government schools. So why, you might ask, is the government shocked, shocked, I tell you to learn about abuses of this kind in government schools? And what is the government's solution? More government control – especially central government control. Because we all know that bureaucrats in Washington love your children more than their parents and the local...

Dick- The Plain Truth

This isn't much of a post, but I just want to get this off my chest. The former Vice President of the United States, Mr. Dick Cheney, master of national security, is going out in public doing everything he can to destroy the perception that Barack Obama is capable of handling our national defense. In doing so, he is knowingly and deliberately attempting to provoke our enemies into believing it is safe to attack us again. Yes, it is obvious to anyone who cares to see, that this man is positively salivating at the prospect of another terrorist attack on our country. He and his puppet-president will never- NEVER live down the disgrace of having done nothing to stop the greatest attack on our soil since the Civil War. There is not one thing that can diminish this humiliation other than another attack, which would allow this lying coward to say, "see, it wasn't our fault." He and those associated with him in this national disgrace care more about their own egos than th...

Battle Heats Up

Here's an article from Newsmax which, I think, is a perfect example of the degree that the Republican party is content to betray our country to get back in power: "Battle Heats Up over Obama Supreme Court Pick" What battle, you insufferable jackass? What Supreme Court pick? The last I heard, Obama hasn't given a hint about who he will pick. Yet you people are already mustering all of your artillery to try to destroy that unknown person, regardless of how qualified he or she may turn out to be. You don't give a damn about the quality of our judiciary. Like a pack of two year olds, all you know is what you want right now, and nothing else makes any difference. Such as whether Obama picks a really good candidate for the Supreme Court. Do you remember that worthless, arrogant, incompetent, lawbreaking fool whom you saddled us with for eight years? Every time anyone criticised any of his stupid, malicious decisions, you screamed TREASON at the top of your voice...

Air Shows

Image
Here's an article from yesterday's Los Angeles Times: "Things are looking up for air shows Attendance soars as families seek more bang for the buck." So that's why, huh? Well, I don't know how many air shows this guy has been to, but I've been to dozens, including at least ten Edwards Air Force base open houses (as shown in this picture of the flight line) and I want to suggest another theory. My family stopped going to air shows because we were disgusted with what our government was doing with our military. Maybe that's true for a lot of other people too, and maybe they're coming back because they don't think the current administration is going to use our armed forces as an instrument of oppression.
Over at Powerline, someone named John favors us with this specimen of sage wisdom: "I've never thought much of Barack Obama's policies, and I'm starting not to think much of him as a human being. " John, listen. I don't know who the hell you are, but I'd be willing to make a big bet that you started "not to think much of him as a human being" the first time you noticed the color of his skin.
Image
Ann Althouse, a well-known wingnut loon that I haven't paid much attention to had this jackass post on her worthless website today: "Do you notice anything about the picture of Obama that's on Drudge right now? I know the impression it made on me. I showed it to my tablemate and, without any prompting, he said exactly what I had thought. IN THE COMMENTS: Roger von Oech said: "Louis Farrakhan — all the way. The teleprompter makes it look like a bow tie." That's it. The entire thing. Obama looks like Farrakhan because the teleprompter looks like a bowtie. Ann, you moron, I'm looking at your picture right now. Are you trying to tell me that Farrakhan was in the habit of wearing both a bow tie and a regular tie at the same time? Because otherwise, I don't get the resemblance. So that's it, that's what you've got on Obama? An accident of a photograph makes him look like he's wearing the same kind of tie as som...

A Little Pop Quiz

Who said this? "Senator ******* leaves no doubt that he believes his own ******** Party is badly out of step with most of the country and needs to shape up or ship out." I'm sure you guessed that one easily enough. That was Zell Miller, a few years ago, talking about the Democrats. How'd that work out for you, Zell?

Who Cares, You Jackass

From Human Events, "Newt Gingrich, currently ranked "most interesting" on Top Conservatives on Twitter..... "I don't follow any Democrats on Twitter." How, I mean how do you fit as much disgusting stupidity in 18 words? Is there anyone who gives a God damn about Newt Gingrich on Twitter? And is there anyone who thinks Newt Gingrich listens to any Democrats, or who gives a rat's ass who or what this lying hypocritical scum pays attention to? Newt, go back to your third or fourth or tenth wife, whatever she is, and get the hell out of our lives.

It's a Great Place to be Locked Up

Here's a sterling example of the incisivenenss of Republican analysis, from Red State: "Defense Secretary Robert “William” Gates was interviewed on NBC’s “Toady” “Today” show Friday May 22 where he called the Gitmo lockup “probably one of the finest prisons in the world today.” Got that right." Eric, people spent seven years in that wonderful prison, without charges and without any meaningful evidence that they did anything wrong. It could to be the Four Seasons and it would still be an act of barbarism to keep them there. Don't you get that? Or is it just that, as a loyal Republican, you don't give a God damn about stealing seven years out of someone's life, if that someone is a brown person? On second thought, don't answer that question. I don't think I want to know the answer.

Obama is Hitler- More Evidence Emerges

Image
God, will the stupidity never end. From a Town Hall column by some idiot bimbo named Rachel Marsden: “Sitting at a restaurant table in Munich in the summer of 1932, Hitler designed the prototype for what would become the immensely successful Beetle design for Volkswagen (literally, the "car of the people"),” says the Hitler Historical Museum’s website. This week, Obama imposed on American car manufacturers strict fuel efficiency and emissions standards, to be introduced in 2012." Oh, I get it. Obama is just like Hitler, because Hitler designed a car, and Obama wants to save gas. Why didn't I think of that before? It's so obvious now. "In other words, they’re going to make cars only hippies want..." Which would include this electric car, I guess, which does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. I guess nobody but a hippy would want one. And by the way, Rachel, I didn't know that Adolf Hitler was that concerned with providing mobility for hippies. "It ...

Gateway Pundit has this amusing article today: "House Dems Swat Down Investigation on Liar Pelosi And, we were so hoping to see the liar frogmarched from the Capital. " The post was illustrated by this so-clever use of Photoshop: Remember how enraged they used to get whenever we questioned the honesty of their politicians, no matter how many times they lied to us? I guess that isn't the same, huh? Let me tell you something, guys: If lying politicians got thrown in jail, there wouldn't be a free Republican on the planet. So, you'd better forget that idea while you are ahead. Or at least way behind, instead of totally nonexistent. And a couple of other helpful suggestions: First, that's Capitol, not capital. Second, at least try to adjust the levels in the layer with Nancy's face, so it looks like part of the rest of the picture. Your photoshop skills are as inadequate as your political thinking.

RNC Cute Again

The Republican National Committee is featuring a short excerpt from a speech by Barack, from 2006, in which he is shown saying that the constitution is flawed. They, of course, intend to use this to play into their bogus "original intent" argument, where they claim that everything liberals do is an anti-American mangling of the principles on which our country was founded. What was the flaw that Obama was talking about? Well, the speech was part of a conference on the constitution and racism. As you can guess, the flaw was that the constitution allowed slavery. I guess, to Republicans that was not a flaw, it was a feature.

Money Down A Rathole

Ann Coulter: "Notre Dame Holds First Alan Keyes Fundraiser"

Blame

From Town Hall today: "Barack Obama today followed the same script that has so far dominated his presidency: blame the previous administration for every challenge we face today." And as usual, being Republicans, you have a problem with that. Because it's the truth.

Great National Question

How many words can Dick Cheney utter without telling a lie? From his "response" to President Obama's speech today: "I first came to AEI after serving at the Pentagon, and departed only after a very interesting job offer came along." A job offer came along? You mean when you made yourself Vice President? That's a "job offer?" I'd like that kind of job offer. I'll make myself King of France. "....naturally my duties tended toward national security." Yeah, toward making it worse. "I had the advantage of being a vice president content with the responsibilities I had, and going about my work with no higher ambition." Are you kidding me? How can you even say that with a straight face? "I am certain that no one wishes the current administration more success in defending the country than we do." I hope somebody wishes them more success than you, because you are doing everything you can to make Obama fail, every cha...

David Broder- At It Again

Is there no end to the intellectual dishonesty of the "Dean of the Washington Press Corps," Mr. David Broder? Today, from his column in the Washington Post (thanks to Daily Kos): "....today's Democrats really are isolated from the military. Harry Truman had been an artillery captain; John Kennedy and Carter, Navy officers. But Bill Clinton did everything possible to avoid the draft, and Obama, motivated as he was to public service, never gave a thought to volunteering for the military." First of all, David, Bill Clinton did not do "everything possible to avoid the draft." He got a deferment. He didn't get five of them, like your tough talking buddy Dick Cheney, who had better things to do than fight in a war he actively claimed to support. And he didn't have his daddy get him a soft position out of the line of fire, and then desert even that when it suited his drunken, party boy purpose. And he didn't spend his wartime at home making...

Important News from the RNC

"Resolved, that we the members of the Republican National Committee recognize that the Democratic Party is dedicated to restructuring American society along socialist ideals...." Passed officially by the Republican National Committee, yesterday. Thanks a lot, guys, for this sincere contribution to our national discourse. We are so pleased to see that you have determined to put aside meaningless partisanship and make a real effort to help move our country in the right direction. You can be sure that Green Eagle is going to respond to this initiative with a spirit of bipartisan goodwill fully in keeping with this charitable Republican resolution. How about this: Resolved that we the members of the reality based world recognize that the Republican Party is made up of a collection of hopeless jackasses.

Porter Goss Won't Speak

After all the synthetic hoopla raised by the Republicans over Nancy Pelosi's supposed lies about her CIA briefings, we now have this: "Porter Goss, the former GOP Congressman who was in the room with Nancy Pelosi during their 2002 CIA briefing on interrogations, is declining through a spokesperson to say whether the two of them were told that enhanced interrogation techniques had been used. Goss’ reticence raises still another round of questions about the accuracy of the recently-released CIA documents purporting to detail what members of Congress were told about the use of torture." So, the former right wing Republican congressman and former head of the CIA, will not back up the CIA and Republican claim that Nancy Pelosi is hiding her role in the torture scandal. Isn't it about time that we moved past the issue of what Nancy Pelosi knew or didn't know, and deal with the people who actually ordered torture? And isn't it time, finally, for the press to stop...

What?

This has nothing to do with anything, but I just found this interesting comment on a blog I stumbled upon: "The sudden appearance of the Spice Girls in the UK and the Mouseketeer abortions of Brittany Spears, In-sync, Aguilera and company were designed to materialize in consort with George W. Bush...." The same person then has this to say: "I’m throwing a lot of things out here without the depth that such a subject requires even though the subject has no depth at all." Oy. Also, "I'm definitely on the wrong planet." Well, you got that one right, buddy.

How Do TheyDo It?

Image
I haven't had anything to say about the ridiculous phony outrage generated by the right over President Obama's commencement appearance at Notre Dame. The alleged substance of their remarks is totally boring to me. There is, however, something worth noticing about this pathetic affair. From Yahoo: "About 35 people, many of them carrying anti-abortion signs, were standing on the four corners outside the school's front gate shortly before noon when a group of about 40 people led by (Alan) Keyes and Terry marched up. They stopped briefly to say some prayers and to listen to Keyes, who lost to Obama in the Illinois Senate election in 2004." Well, there it is, in all of its glory. 75 people. You can see a photo of the event above. This is it, after weeks of covering this pseudo-issue by the mainstream media. And this pathetic turnout was further promoted with ridiculous press coverage after the fact. The last anti-war march in Washington, just to provide a litt...
