America Wins

219 to 212. Not one Republican vote for it.

And now, Green Eagle's comment on the Democrats' victory over the dignified, mature, fact-based campaign of the Republican party, aimed at protecting insurance company profits:

Yes, Republicans, you could have gotten a much better deal for your greedy businessmen last December, if you hadn't been such a bunch of lying, obstructionist pigs. As Thomas Friedman once observed, "suck on this one."

The Democratic party proved something tonight which is overwhelmingly important: Yes, we can defeat the greedy rich if we stick together. Now it's time for lots more victories like this.

And yes, Green Eagle had lots of fun making this graphic.

Update:
Oh God. The bill hasn't been passed for five minutes, and the Republicans are up there screaming out their nauseating garbage about abortion. These people have not a shred of respect for our national institutions, and care about nothing but getting their own way. There are really no words in our language to express the depravity of this party.

They'll have a hell of a time doing it.

Excellent Elephant Carcase, GE. Glad you found something constructive to do during the protracted voting. An exciting night. Like election night for Barry O., wasn't it?

The Dems would very likely have faced electoral disaster in November if they'd failed to pass this. They're back in the game now.

Once health-care reform actually starts taking effect, it will become about as electorally feasible to repeal it as to repeal Social Security. People have been trained to recoil from the word "socialism", but give them the substance and they'll never let anyone take it away from them.

David Frum (moderate conservative) has a great post up on all the stupid blunders the Republicans made in dealing with this and how it's led conservatism to abject defeat. When they start listening to people like him, we'll know they're ready to make a comeback. I don't see much sign of that yet, though.
