Dems are Cramming Again

Here's a perfect example of the kind of deluded and dishonest thinking that conservatives use to support their claims, from Donald Douglas, Orange County resident, junior college professor of political science (!) and notorious internet jerk:

"Dems to Cram 'Public Option' Down Throat of American Public
As far as I'm concerned, the public option was defeated last summer, when conservatives protested Democratic health policy at town hall forums around the nation. Reputable polls continue to show tepid support for a government run health plan, which is why papers like the Washington Post have published bogus polls to help the Democrats deceive the American people."

Ooh.

Let's run through that again, this time with notes:

"Dems to Cram 'Public Option' Down Throat of American Public "

That's Republican for "pass in Congress by getting a majority of votes." The Iraq invasion, for example, wasn't "crammed down" the throats of the American public, they were lied into it, which is just fine if you are a Republican.

"As far as I'm concerned, the public option was defeated last summer, when conservatives protested Democratic health policy at town hall forums around the nation."

Donald, apparently, although you claim to be a professor of political science, you have not yet come to understand this thing called "Congress," or the notion of "passing a bill." Actually, Donald, bills can pass even when a whole bunch of ignorant conservative dupes protested against them. I guess you never knew that. Or that tantrums don't magically increase the number of Senators you have.

"Reputable polls continue to show tepid support for a government run health plan,"

Or, as Donald points out:

"Sixty-three percent (63%) of voters nationwide say guaranteeing that no one is forced to change their health insurance coverage is a higher priority than giving consumers the choice of a "public option" health insurance company."

Donald, apparently you didn't notice that the Democratic health care plan gives people a "public option" and does not force anyone to change their health insurance. That makes your evidence pretty irrelevant. So everyone wins. Except you. And the insurance companies.

"
which is why papers like the Washington Post have published bogus polls to help the Democrats deceive the American people."

Donald's evidence from another right wing blog with as much a respect for the truth as his own:

"My first clue that the new WaPo/ABC poll had big problems in its sampling came from question 38 of the raw data released by ABC last night, the generic Congressional ballot. Most polls have that within the margin of error; both Rasmussen and Pew have it at a dead heat. The WaPo/ABC survey has Democrats winning that matchup by twelve points, 51%/39%.

That tends to discredit much of what the Post reports this morning: The sampling comprises 33% Democrats, as opposed to only 20% Republicans."

Research 2000 weekly tracking poll, last Friday:

Positive Negative Change
DEMOCRATIC PARTY:42 (41)50 (51)+2
REPUBLICAN PARTY:20 (21)67 (67)-1

Donald, the Washington Post was doing you a favor. Quit complaining.

Which is illegal by our government's construct. So yes, trying to do something illegal to pass legislation the plurality of Americans don't want is shoving the government option down the throats of the american public.

"he Iraq invasion, for example, wasn't "crammed down" the throats of the American public, they were lied into it"

I guess I should address the lie thing again and give you the dossiers from the UK, the UN, and the CIA. The info was there, and unless you are suggesting they all lied just for the sake of wasting money in Iraq (what, was GW just bored? 'Hey honey! Get the kids, we're going to war!'), then you must know that it wasn't a lie. But of course, you have no tact so admitting that Bush isn't a liar is almost a sin. As for the invasion of Iraq, that resolution passed 77 to 23, not 51 to 49. Let's see the Dems get 77 votes when they have a majority far larger than that of the Republicans' in 2002.

"does not force anyone to change their health insurance."

Unless it doesn't meet new government standards.

The Republicans and Dems are tied, and at this rate, the Republicans will emerge victorious. The public support for democrats and their BS "ideas" is dropping fast.

Derek, are you insane?

You need 60 votes, not 51.

Derek,

If you think anyone that reads this blog is going to fall for your line that it's illegal to enact legislation by majority vote, you really don't get it.

And as for Iraq, one of the greatest military blunders in the history of the world, don't even bother with the talking points. We like the truth here.

You mean like Bush lied and the invasion was illegal?

At least I can present evidence, something you seem to not understand.

In order for the debate to end, 3/5 vote in the senate is needed. That or the Republicans would have to back down, which you and I both know wont happen. Therefore, they need 60 votes in order for the bill to pass.

Our invasion of Iraq was a war crime, Derek, comparable to the Anschluss.

That's the truth, like it or not.

Pray tell how, my sweet.

"comparable to the Anschluss."

I'm pretty sure we haven't annexed Iraq. Saddam broke international law by having weapons prohibited under the treaties signed after the first Iraq wars. Most notably were his SCUD missiles. Ergo, we technically were just enforcing a treaty, aka upholding international law.

Also, a declaration of war isn't illegal, as the Westphalian system doesn't have a international government, nor standard declaring it illegal.
