Wingnut Wrapup- Honduras Hypocrite Edition

Well, it's now been a couple of days since the constitution loving Honduran military dictatorship did away with constitutionally guaranteed rights of assembly, the press, free travel, freedom from arbitrary arrest, and guarantees that the government would not use violence against its enemies.

I guess, when you think of dictators, that's pretty much the whole ball of wax, right? So I thought it would be a good idea to see how the American right which, to a man (and Michelle Malkin too) praised the Honduran coup as a triumph of liberty, has responded to the latest (rather predictable) turn of events. I searched all of my usual sites, and here is what I found:

Ross Mackenzie, Town Hall "Three months ago, the Honduran military escorted the country's president, Manuel Zelaya, out of the country....THE OBAMA administration joined a multitude of marxian regimes in "the international community" - including those in Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, and Argentina - in going ballistic.

As always, and as I mentioned yesterday, he left virtually every country in Europe and Latin America off of his list of evil opponents of the great Honduran coup. Oh well....Here's a little more from Mr. Mackenzie:

"Meanwhile, Zelaya has been secreted back into Honduras....On the pretext of backing the trappings of democracy, the Obama administration is siding with leftist Latin regimes to compel Honduras to violate its own constitution. This is a document written specifically to prevent the subversion of the electoral system...."

Pretty funny, huh? Supporting a military coup and then having the nerve to blather on about "the subversion of the electoral system." Not a word, however, about whether banning a free press, assembly and free movement subverts anything.

E Pluribus Unum, Red State: "OK then, big boy. (that would be Obama, in case you didn't guess.) How about let’s start with Honduras? How about you butt the heck out of Honduras, seeing as how the smart people conclude you are wrong about the recent so-called ‘coup’? This week we find that the Congressional Research Service (CRS) states that Honduras acted within their laws in deposing Chavez-buddy, would-be dictator Manuel Zelaya."

Well, here's something they said that Mr. Unum forgot to mention:

".... removal of President Zelaya from the country by the military is in direct violation of the Article 102 of the Constitution..."

What a surprise, huh? It's a violation of the constitution for the military to overthrow the government. Who would have ever suspected that?

Power Line: "Hands off Honduras; hands off soccer"

This because some people want to ban Honduras from a soccer match. I guess it's hands off the coup's latest actions, too, because Power Line apparently finds soccer to be more noteworthy than ending practically all legal protections of Honduras' citizens.

Dan Miller, Pajamas Media: "Costa Rican President Oscar Arias admits that Honduras acted lawfully in ousting Manuel Zelaya."

Well, sort of:

"Costa Rica President Oscar Arias, the principal negotiator in the “Honduran crisis,” let the cat out of the bag on September 29 by stating that the situation is due at least in part to the Honduran constitution. He called it “the worst in the entire world” and “an invitation to coups”

Which, by the way, it got. How dare that guy hold an "illegal" nonbinding referendum- but it's just fine for the military to close down the press, ban public meetings, eliminate freedom of travel, and give itself the permission to use violence to enforce its will. That's not a significant enough constitutional violation to even mention.

And that's it. Everything I could find. Not a single one of these people cares to mention that the military coup they so lovingly supported actually turned out to be just like military dictatorships always do. Not a shred of real concern for the welfare of the Honduran people. Just one more chance to spread their lies and their venom.

And, if you think they will react any differently if something like this happens here, forget it. They'll be right there, marching in the parades behind the renegade military and cheering them on.
