Get Ready for Racism
It's been a pretty slow news time the last couple of weeks, what with most of us just waiting to see how piggishly the Republicans are going to wield their new governmental power in the coming months. Want a hint? Forgive me for quoting at a little length from Talking Points Memo:
This comes after Barbour's recent praise of the White Citizens' Councils, generally considered to be sort of the upper class KKK back in the day.
So slavery apparently didn't amount to diddly. I don't know about you, but I never, ever thought that we would live to again see a day when mainstream politicians felt free to engage in open race hatred like this, encouraging the ugliest passions of the ugliest segment of our population. This kind of unrepentant racism is something we haven't seen since at least the sixties, but it is coming back with a vengeance, and who knows where it will end. No one is really stepping up to excommunicate the likes of Barbour and Bob McDonnell from the body politic, as their behavior richly deserves, and the result is that such conduct is becoming acceptable in the Republican party.
I am starting to pray that the Southern States decide to secede again from the country, as the alternative seems to be an outbreak of vicious, racist fascism. We have already taken the first steps toward the latter, with the country's toleration of the likes of Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck. Personally, I would rather let these hateful people go, and see how they do on their own, without the Democratic states' money to constantly prop them up.

"It's trying to make a big deal out of something that doesn't amount to diddly."

What an idiot!
Since their economies have long been non-viable, they will have a really hard time putting together any kind of strong military, and when Mexico decides to take Texas back, I think they will be too busy fighting that war to do much else.
And let's not forget that there are still a lot of really angry Black people in the South. The crackers are going to have to sort things out with them too.
I think that would be an enjoyable spectacle for the rest of us.
