The Dean Hits a New Low
Readers of Green Eagle (both of you) may remember my numerous criticisms of David Broder, long time Washington Post opinion writer, and the "Dean of Washington Pundits," for being a Republican talking-point retailing, Democrat attacking, unapologetic deceiver. Well, this malicious, pathetic person has perhaps gone farther than ever before, in an article about Sarah Palin that makes me want to strangle myself. I am going to quote at length from his lunatic ravings, and vent a little anger that this is what passes for reasonable opinion in our "liberal press."
'Sarah Palin displays her pitch-perfect populism
...Her lengthy Saturday night keynote address to the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville and her debut on the Sunday morning talk show circuit with Fox News' Chris Wallace showed off a public figure at the top of her game -- a politician who knows who she is and how to sell herself, even with notes on her palm. "
The top of what game? She got up and collected $100,000.00 for blabbing out the same sick lies and pandering jingoism that she always sells, and managed to make just about zero sense in the process. And does David Broder really think that knowing "how to sell herself" makes her suitable to lead this country? How about showing some knowledge and judgment, of which which she has none? I guess being at the top of your game doesn't include having a shred of what it might take to be President. But it is all okay with this man- and so he gets to write in the Washington Post and tell us what we are supposed to think.
"Palin used the Tea Party gathering and coverage on the cable networks to display the full repertoire she possesses, touching on national security, economics, fiscal and social policy..."
Yeah, she "touched" on them, and showed absolute ignorance of them, and a total lack of concern for truth and falsity about them. In fact, all she showed was that she could repeat ignorant Republican talking points about our national problems- and we already have seen plenty of that from her.
"Palin's final answer to Wallace showed how perfectly she has come to inhabit that part. When he asked her what role she wants to play in the country's future, she said:
"First and foremost, I want to be a good mom, and I want to raise happy, healthy, independent children. And I want them to be good citizens of this great country."
A good mom. Well, that will be a lot of help in the Presidency. This is the most disgusting form of pandering to the ignorant, and David Broder must know this perfectly well, yet he continues to promote her malignant nonsense:
"And then I do want to be a voice for some common-sense solutions. I'm never going to pretend like I know more than the next person."
Well, not much chance of getting away with that.
"I'm not going to pretend to be an elitist. In fact, I'm going to fight the elitist, because for too often and for too long now, I think the elitists have tried to make people like me and people in the heartland of America feel like we just don't get it, and big government's just going to have to take care of us. "
Sarah, you retard, you don't get it. That's why we say you don't get it. Because you don't. You don't get anything. You are totally ignorant of the real issues, and proud of it.
And once again, she is engaging in one of the most destructive strains that has infected American politics: the encouraging of the ignorant to have contempt for competence and learning, and to trust people who are obviously manipulating them.
"... when Wallace asked her about resigning the governorship with 17 months left in her term and whether she let her opponents drive her from office, she said, "Hell, no."
A lie, of course, but apparently, lying is just as fine with David Broder as pandering and demagoguery:
"Those who want to stop her will need more ammunition than deriding her habit of writing on her hand. The lady is good. "
Good? Good at what? Lying? Blabbing out the Republican party line? Pandering to the ignorant? Spreading hatred? Because, Mr. Broder, most of us expect a little more in a national leader than that. Not you, apparently, but the rest of us.
Enough. Here's one final note on this issue, from Mr. Broder's own paper:
"Although Palin is a tea party favorite, her potential as a presidential hopeful takes a severe hit in the survey. Fifty-five percent of Americans have unfavorable views of her, while the percentage holding favorable views has dipped to 37, a new low in Post-ABC polling."
So, apparently, the American people are not quite as stupid and gullible, and as unconcerned with the fate of our country, as our Dean of Washington pundits. And people wonder why Democrats can't catch a break.
