Socialists in Congress, Oh My!

Here's a scintillating example of the brilliance and seriousness of our Republican congressional representatives, from the Birmingham News:

"But (U. S. Rep. Spencer Bachus) said he is worried that he is being steered too far by the Congress: "Some of the men and women I work with in Congress are socialists."

Asked to clarify his comments after the breakfast speech at the Trussville Civic Center, Bachus said 17 members of the U.S. House are socialists."

May I remind people that, when Joe McCarthy made similar claims, during his tantrum of terror in the 50's, all it took to stop him was for someone to finally demand that he show his list of alleged Communists in government.

Where is some Congressional Democrat with the minimal guts it takes to demand that this clown reveal this list? Let's see who he think is a Socialist.

I want to make it clear that I am requesting this, not in the hope it will make a damn bit of difference to the lunatics who believe this sort of nonsense, but because it will provide me with another opportunity to rain ridicule on the Republican party. It's every man for himself in this world, you know.

Hamas

  Of ocurse I am going to take the opportunity to talk about the Hamas attack on Israel.   First, I'd like to talk about my background, or baggage, regarding the country.   I have lived in Israel, some years ago.   This was not for religious reasons; I spent several months there working on a movie.   During pre-production, weeks of location scouting and shooting the movie, I was all over the country, and spent a fair amount of time in the West Bank, where we also shot.   This included a lot of places that normal tourists would not see, including predominantly Arab areas such as East Jerusalem, the Arab quarter of the old city, Ramla and the southern part of Jaffa, which is predominantly Arab.   It also included heavily Orthodox areas like Mea Shearim.   I dealt with Israeli Arabs, Palestinians and Bedouins.     Here are a few things I believe I learned there:   First of all, the Palestinians I knew were perfectly normal people with the same interest in living a safe, secure
