More Nauseating Torture Revelations

From McClatchey, the only print news organization left in the country that seems to even try to tell the truth:

"WASHINGTON — The Bush administration put relentless pressure on interrogators to use harsh methods on detainees in part to find evidence of cooperation between al Qaida and the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's regime, according to a former senior U.S. intelligence official and a former Army psychiatrist.

A former senior U.S. intelligence official familiar with the interrogation issue said that Cheney and former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld demanded that intelligence agencies and interrogators find evidence of al Qaida-Iraq collaboration.

.... for most of 2002 and into 2003, Cheney and Rumsfeld, especially, were also demanding proof of the links between al Qaida and Iraq that (former Iraqi exile leader Ahmed) Chalabi and others had told them were there."

Let us make this clear- they knew all along that there was no such evidence because there was no such connection. Only a fool could have ever believed in a link between the militantly secular Baath party and the religious extremists in Al Qaida.

It is clear at this point that these people were tortured, not in spite of the risk that torture might produce false confessions, but for that very purpose- to produce a lying justification for Bush and Cheney's criminal aggression.

The perpetrators of these acts, from Woo and Bybee, through Colin Powell and Rumsfeld, right up to Bush and Cheney themselves need to spend the rest of their lives in prison- not only because they deserve it, but because the rest of us deserve it.

I'm sorry if I am getting boring here. I am not going to give up on this issue.
