Cuban Spies, Oh No

Here is a really wonderful example of the degree to which wingnuts are immune to anything approaching the truth, from a rambling article by one Wes Vernon:

Vernon writes of the following person:

"In key positions within the bowels of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) for 17 years was one of the most dangerous spies ever to penetrate the workings of the U.S. government.

Ana Belen Montes was the senior briefer, literally in charge of coordinating the entire inter-agency intelligence gathering effort for the U.S.A. She was routinely called upon to provide classified briefings to top officials within the White House, Capitol Hill, the State Department, and the Defense Department. She was the key officer in charge of coordinating the U.S. intelligence estimate of Cuba, its leaders, and its intentions. But everything she wrote was co-written by Castro......

Therein, a lesson for the current president: Just the fear of retaliation can be a deterrent. It is hard to believe the Cubans would have been so bold had they targeted America during the tenure of Ronald Reagan or either of the two Bushes."

Montes was arrested at her desk in 2001 after working for 17 years. That would take her career back to 1984. Let's see now, the calculations and historical evidence to figure this out are very complex....Yes! Thant means that she actually engaged in her evil deeds during the tenure of Ronald Reagan and both the Bushes!

But let me explain. I was once a math major, and therefore able to complete the abstruse calculation of subtracting 17 from 2001. I wouldn't try this at home- at least not if you're a Republican.

I'm not so sure I'd put this up to "wingnuts". The book this guy is referring to - BETRAYAL: Clinton, Castro & the Cuban Five - is apparently well-researched and completely documented. The story of the Cuban spy Montes is old news, and she was really that damaging to America.

I read the article and I thought what he meant was that the Cubans wouldn't have shot anyone down during the Reagan or Bush years, not that they were too scared to spy on America during that time - in fact, I think Cuba is probably very active spying on the USA and that you can count on that year after year, no matter who is in power.
