Bye, Juan

"NPR has terminated its contract with Juan Williams, one of its senior news analysts, after he made comments about Muslims on the Fox News Channel."

This guy may have a black skin, but I have insisted for years that he is nothing but Rush Limbaugh in a monkey suit.  How anyone could have ever listened to him and not realized that he only played a liberal on TV, but was as big a sellout to the right as anyone at Fox, always puzzled me.

Good riddance, jerk.

Update:  From the L.A. Times:

"Fox News Chief Executive Roger Ailes handed Williams a new three-year contract Thursday morning, in a deal that amounts to nearly $2 million, a considerable bump up from his previous salary"

Boy, that didn't take long.  No bad deed goes unrewarded.  If you thought I was over the top in my claim about which side this guy is on, I guess you've been set straight now.

@"Limbaugh in a monkey suit

You are a hateful racist.

And you obviously haven not read Williams's work. He has been a tireless advocate for human rights and civil rights.

You racist, bigoted head is shoved so far up your msnbc the circulation is cut off to your brain.

You're a sick, sickening racist, Green bird.

I'm linking to this in my Friday post. Don't go coward and edit your sick comment out. I've got screen shots.

You're a disgrace to America and a disgrace to humanity.

If you're not disgusted by that comment, Anon, you obviously have no friends or loved ones who are black.

It's a repellent comment.

Liberals talk a good game...

I have insisted for years that Juan Williams was a sellout to the right, who hid his true nature behind his black face. Well, it turns out that I was right.

He deserves no more respect than any other right wing sellout, which is none.

By the way, Silverfiddle, I find it interesting that you seem to believe that being "a tireless advocate for human rights" is utterly inconsistent with being a conservative. I've got to agree with you on that point.

Other than that, save your phony, synthetic outrage for an audience that gives a damn.

@" Black face"

What the hell are you, some 100 year old 1920's progressive? Did you work in Racist in Chief Woody Wilson's cabinet?

You're a hateful bigot. You haven't even read William's articles or books.

You need to get out more and make friends with people outside your narrow mindset.

You are pathetic. I almost feel sorry for you.
This makes me feel kind of bad for Rick Sanchez. He said "insensitive" things about Jews and didn't get a gig with FOX News.

I guess the FOX rule is Muslim bashing only.

Pick on me Silverfish. Maybe ripping on an ayatollah like myself will get you a gig on Fox like Juan Williams.

It's a free marketplace of ideas. If you don't like someone, don't tune in and watch them.

I thought CNN was on a hair trigger on the Sanchez thing, but I didn't care because from what I've heard, he's a moron anyway.

Political correctness is run amok in this country. Scour my blog, and you'll never find where I've called for someone to be shut up or fired.

I have called for some blatantly anti-American, un-constitutional people to be deported.

And yet, you read my blog, Silverfiddle.

I'm really sorry that I correctly identified the craven insincerity of Juan Williams years ago. I know that seeing the truth is a cardinal sin to people like you.

This blog post, where you allege insincerity against Juan Williams, would be improved by some actual facts that support your unsubstantiated claim.

From SF's blog:

"We cannot pray in publicly-funded schools because it would supposedly violate the First Amendment freedom of religion rights of those who don't believe in prayer. Based upon that screwed up liberal illogic, NPR violated Juan Williams' right to free speech under the same amendment to the US Constitution."

NPR does take some tax-funded money, but it also depends on contributions from private corporations, and individual donations.

It does not depend ENTIRELY on tax dollars, so the government did NOT shut down Juan Williams' free speech.

Public schools are ENTIRELY supported by government tax dollars, and are therefore prohibited by our Constitution from favoring one or any religion's prayers in school.

Juan Williams apparently violated one of his agreed to conditions of employment with NPR. He demonstrated publicly his overt prejudice toward Muslims.

How could he fairly remark on anything to do with Muslims on NPR on any subject dealing with Muslims after he indicted ALL Muslims?

They ALL scare him.

In the '30s Germans were told ALL Jews were repulsive devils and to be loathed.

And in the not distant past, in Rwanda, the Hutus publicly broadcast that ALL TUTSIS were cockroaches and were to be eliminated.

That SF doesn't see the inherent harm and danger in remarks that denigrate an entire group of people only shows that perhaps he harbors those prejudices himself.

NPR was entirely correct.

You're probably right there. My impression of Juan Williams comes from a couple of decades of hearing him talk on the air, and making my own mind up about what I heard. I didn't bother to memorize what he said, so I can't quote you chapter and verse. Still, and particularly in what we've seen the last few days, I stand by my opinion.
Silverfiddle said…
You've almost got it, Shaw.

Public schools, like NPR, do not get all their money from the federal government. Regardless of how you fall on incorporation, if one interprets the first amendment narrowly in one instance, it is inconsistent to interpret it broadly in another.

Also, you need to look up the definition of the word denigrate. He most certainly did not do that.

Your analogy is a false one, but throwing in Nazi Germany was original!

There is nothing more doctrinaire and dogmatic, lock-step and conformist than a modern-day American so-called liberal.

Juan Williams committed the sin of appearing on fox news, and for that the true believers were just waiting for an opportunity to anathematize him.

The left is good at purging non-conformist thinkers from its ranks, I'll give you guys that...
Green Eagle said…
Juan Williams is not a "non-conformist" thinker. He is a right wing hack. His role is just to be a loser in the arguments.

Did you ever watch much pro wrestling? There were guys like Big John Shaw whose role was to lose. Many of them were as adept and athletic as the "winning" characters like Hulk Hogan or Sergeant Slaughter- they were just playing the role they were paid well to play. That's what Juan Williams is- a pretend liberal whose job is to present a pathetic, weak distortion of the liberal position, so people like Bill O'Reilly can tear him man to shreds. That's what he's done to earn his $2 million a year payout from Fox News.

An accomplished writer and a man, like Bob Beckel, not afraid to go into the lion's den and defend his point of view, and you call him a hack.

You're a racist little boy sticking your tongue out and throwing rocks at a granite statue...

I don't know about anyone else, but Green Eagle responds so much better to people who made it past third grade English.

Juan is a liberal. Oh my God he said something about the "M" word.
I bet if he said he felt threatened near a Tea PARTY rally NPR would have given him a new contract.
Liberals think if you are black,Hispanic or a woman the only views you are "allowed" to have is what the thought police say you should have. Sounds racist to me if you can only say what massa says you can say.
You'd think NPR would be glad to get the liberal view out instead of always playing to their own choir.

A Tom Tancredo supporter scurrying about shouting 'racist'?

It doesn't remotely ring true. But in an era where Glenn Beck tries (and fails dismally) to evoke the legacy of MLK it isn't surprising.

A generation of political and cultural illiterates seeking to 'take back their country' are capable of vast exaggeration and outright falsehood.
Silverfiddle said…
I hate to get sucked into the madness...

OK Arty, tell us how my buddy Tom is a racist.
Arthurstone said…
Actually you wallow gleefully in the 'madness' but that's a story for another day. I woll add briefly really outdid yourself with this bit of nonsense:

'Americans: The New Jews'

Let's begin with Tancredo's desire to reinstitute 'literacy tests' ("we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote.") for voters, a vestige of Jim Crow.

"people who could not even spell the word ‘vote’, or say it in English, put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama.”

This is charming as well:

While explaining his opposition to Sonia Sotomayor's nomination, he called the group La Raza "a Latino KKK without the hoods or the nooses."

Nativism. Racism.

Arguably the real Tea Party values.
Silverfiddle said…
Let me help you Artie:

rac·ism n.

1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

What you describe are PC violations, and outside the ivory towers and latte liberal confines, such guilt-driven speech code frippery holds no sway.

Nice try.
Arthurstone said…
Ouch.

Just kidding.

Along with the racism and nativism the other thing the Tea Party "Real Americans" do really well is victimhood.

Hi ho Silver!
