Serious Journalism, Right Wing Style

Joseph Farah of World Net Daily has spent a good part of the last year furious with the Obama administration because they will not recognize his website and himself as legitimate journalists.

I have to say, I really see his point, when I read stories like this one:

"World Net Daily Exclusive!

Author: European Antichrist looking more and more unlikely

With Europe on the verge of economic collapse, what about all those popular predictions that the European Union would become the world's political powerhouse, giving rise to the endtimes prophecies of a world dictator known to Bible students as the Antichrist?

Joel Richardson, author of a best-selling book on Bible prophecy, says atheists will have a field day mocking Christians for the incorrect interpretations about the last days.

The author of "The Islamic Antichrist: The Shocking Truth About the True Nature of the Beast" wants everyone to know that if the EU falls, it is not an indictment of the truth of the Bible."

This is the sort of hard-hitting journalism that is really going to help us make our country a better place. How could anyone doubt Farah's credentials as a serious journalist?

I agree, which is why I never go there. It is the MSNBC of the right.

Sorry, you're not getting away with that here, Silverfiddle.

World Net Daily constantly perpetrates the most abominable lies about Obama and the Democrats. It is the number one source for birther bullshit, it features continual portrayals of the Democrats as communists and appeasers (unlike Bush, who really was an appeaser, cozying up for eight years to the two main sponsors of Islamic terrorism, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan) and is one of the worst of the right wing propagandists.

Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow are relating what they know to be the truth about the miserable, craven bunch of lunatics into which the Republican party has degenerated. They are honest people, not shameful propagandists, whether you will ever admit this or not.

We hear American voices constantly ...

The ones that say America is the greatest and the strongest and "you guys" (me) should just do what you're told (that's been said to me over lunch), the ones that cannot locate their own country on a world map, the ones that say the Nazis were gay Jew-lovers, the ones that say that dancing is enticing to Satan, the ones that say that the answer to anything is more guns, no taxes, bomb the fuck out someone, the ones that say Mexicans carry diseases, the ones that talk endlessly of how good America is at winning wars like Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, the ones who don't know Israel from Syria from Hezbollah from a palm tree, the ones paranoid about everything their own government does - except when it is done to foreigners or minorities.

When we hear someone like Olberman or Maddow speak, we are reminded that insanity and lies are not the whole mind of America, and not even the larger part, and that there is still greatness there, if only greed, frothing religious lunacy and unfettered national chauvinism would take a long holiday.
