A Frightening Read

I'm not a fan of twitter, which reduces everything to 140 character sound bites, but it does have its uses, and this is one of them, and an absolutely horrifying account.  It is a series of tweets from a person attending a Trump rally, published at Crooks and Liars.  Nothing I have seen really reveals the violent dementia that Trump is fostering, and that the Republican party has spent decades building. As you know, I follow right wing politics closely, with a very cynical attitude, but I was deeply frightened by what things like this portend for the future.  Please take the time to read it.
Update:  I've now seen this reposted a number of places.  It has horrified everyone who reads it.  As people know, I have been chronicling the movement of the right toward racist nationalism, i.e. fascism or if you must, Nazism, for a long time now, but this really made me wonder just how close we have come.  Again, I urge you to read it.  There may be no more important political post that I've read in this long, sickening year.

Trump does not exist. His people exist. The way this plays out is as in Rwanda.

The "next page" link doesn't work for me -- I'll try it again later.

The first page is disturbing enough. Trump may or may not be another Hitler, but a lot of the people cheering him on seem to be the same type that supported Hitler.

Believe me- it's worth the trouble to see the whole thing. The behavior of the crowd after the speech was over is truly horrifying.

'Gather 'round... all you hate-filled screeching losers... Uncle Trump is going to tell you a story about how good it's going to be when you can gut your own country, put an end to freedom, and piss on all that is good and decent.'

#Trump is the embodiment of the kind of fascism wanted by those who scream "FREEDOMMMMM!" From his Mussolini-esque elevator descent to encouraging violence at his rallies, to revoking press credentials of any media outlet who fails to fawn over him, Trump is a dangerous throwback to the 1930s.

Well, the roller coaster is on its way. Let's see where it ends up.

Finally read the rest of it. Holy shit. These people are savages. It must have been terrifying in there.

I know. I have a sort of confession to make. I have been saying for at least a couple of decades that the Republican party was more or less deliberately pushing the country toward fascism, but I guess on some emotional level I never quite faced up to it, because this story really shook me. If this is happening often at Trump rallies, it really is the material out of which a Sturmabteilung could be created, at which point there is going to be a hell of a lot of misery before it is put down.
