In the Tank

The mainstream press.  In the tank for Trump:

"As Donald Trump arrived in Manchester, New Hampshire, for a rally a week ago, he stepped out of his motorcade and was greeted by a familiar face: Corey Lewandowski.

Lewandowski had been fired in late-June after serving as Trump’s first campaign manager. Given the internal fighting, Trump’s losing ground in the polls, and the candidate’s and his family’s alleged lack of confidence in Lewandowski, the campaign cut him loose June 20.

Now, a few weeks and a lucrative cable network contract later, Lewandowski is back in the fold, according to multiple campaign sources. They describe Lewandowski’s relationship with the candidate as “stronger than ever.”

“They talk almost every day,” one senior level campaign staffer said, requesting anonymity."

But at the same time, Lewandowski is getting paid by CNN to "report" on the campaign.

All of this, of course, to a background of right wing howls about how the "liberal press" is working to elect Hillary.

And that's why we can't have nice things any more.  Like Democracy.

It is in the Press's own self-interest to promote Trump. They want to make the campaign seem competitive in order to maintain interest in what they write and report on. It is all abut clicks and viewership. Reality be damnned.

Jerry, I am sorry to have to disagree with you about this, because we agree about almost everything, but I do not think this is what is going on for, nor do I think the meager gains that the media would realize from a horse race versus a blowout mean much to them. Nor do I buy the other common story about the mainstream press, that they are all a bunch of middle school bullies who never matured past seventh grade, and don't care about anything but beating up on Hillary and other Democrats. No, they are playing a much longer game, one which justifies the immense efforts their rich owners have gone to since the time of Reagan, to buy up virtually the entire mainstream press.

What they have been doing is cultivating a mob of monsters filled with hatred and greed, who can be manipulated over and over again to stab themselves in the back, to the benefit of the rich. The upside to this absolutely dwarfs what could be made out of a single election, and so far their plan has been working quite well, with the United States on a course to have the most unequal division of wealth by 2030, of any society in the known history of the world.

I'm talking short game. You are talking long game. Certainly, the "rich and powerful" have been buying up media companies to promote their agenda and manipulate the angry and dumb to do their bidding.
